Now you all have a new challenge: create a Doctor Who themed bento.
Challenge accepted!
Layer one: Layered eggplant and sausage tardis landing Wizard of Oz style on some of The Silence
Layer two: Salad of red pepper bowtie, carrot suspenders and red onions. Bowties are cool. ;p
I miss eleven!
Happy Thursday!0 -

AWESOME! 10 was my favorite, but I did like 11 too. LOVE River Song! I cosplayed her last Halloween! Someone should totally do a fishsticks and custard bento - with a banana!! (Bananas are good!)
I forgot to post yesterday's bento: rice, shrimp, veggies, edamame, and a bunny-shaped egg!
My bentos this week are all going to look a lot alike b/c we desperately need to grocery shop!0 -

WIN!!!
I was thinking you would be doing fish sticks and custard.
And I appreciate that The Silence have fallen via the wicked TARDIS of the east... Or something.0 -

Challenge Won! 9 was my man, 10 made me cry multiple times, and I thought 11 was hard to choke down. I'm way behind as I could only take him in small doses, but agreed River Song is amazing!
If I can find myself some time, I may attempt a kyaraben bento just for funzies.

Today's bento: fish, cornbread (under the fish), mixed veggies, and a barely-fish-shaped egg in the big tier; edamame, pretzels, and a pickle in the small tier. Yeah, basically just a pile of weird stuff thrown together screaming, "I haven't grocery shopped!"

Not really a bento? Maybe? Should I consider this "bento inspired"?
Vanilla Greek yogurt with a strawberry, nectarine, apricot, banana, and granola. Ridiculously high in calories, but whatever. I wanted a fruit salad, so there.0 -
My orderd arrived in Time! Wohooooo

Charlie, if you don't like the flowery boxes, I know there's a few around with silver dragons on them and the like ^_^ Although, maybe it was the flowery ones that made you like the idea of bento XD0 -

Ahhhhhh. I think I've seen some of that on Amazon. After I move, I'm going to expand my bento inventory0 -
Central Europe Amazon sadly does not have a lot of nice Bento Stuff^^

At least you guys have Amazon. Australian Amazon sells kindle books and nothing else If I order online, I'm forced to order from overseas.0

I actually once got a shipmen from a Bentoshop in America that was adressed to Australia ( I live in Austria)

Wow! Awesome stuff, new stuff always gets me excited about bento. The cute factor is half the reason I tried this out in the first place. Sure there's portion control, and new foods to try, but the box was my #1 reason.

So, I have to ask, since people from all over the world are reading this...
I look up other people's bento blogs for inspiration, and I keep coming across bentos that have bread with cream cheese and sprinkles... Is this really a thing? And where in the world do people eat this? And I'm assuming it is for kids?0 -

Hmm, cream cheese and sprinkles? Not in the Midwestern US as far as I know. Regular old sliced bread?

Totally white bread topped with sprinkles. It's like someone ran out of ice cream, but had a jar of sprinkles and a craving. I even saw a bento where someone rolled bread and cream cheese into "sushi" rolls, and topped it with sprinkles.0 -

Oh, wow. That's just...wow. Sounds like it would taste, um, weird?0 -
Yeah, I've lived in the southern and midwest US, and I've never seen that. And may I just add...blech0

We don't use cream cheese but we used to (as children) get white bread, spread it with butter and top it with sprinkles. We called it fairy bread!
I really want fairy bread now...

That's what it is! Omg how bizarre! I think the cream cheese might have been just the rolled up sushi-like version that I saw... But I was wondering how the sprinkles would stick without it. I guess butter would work just as well, but I think cream cheese sounds tastier
Now what about using chocolate sprinkles?0 -

@Madiao you forgot something... it's made with hundreds and thousands, not sprinkles. Sprinkles on fairy bread are for chumpsNarcissora wrote: »We don't use cream cheese but we used to (as children) get white bread, spread it with butter and top it with sprinkles. We called it fairy bread!

Maybe it's just me, but the thought of doing it with cream cheese turns my stomach a little bit. The saltiness of the butter mixed with the sweetness of the hundreds and thousands and the soft fluffy white bread is just perfect mouthfeel heaven. My mum also once told me that you can't use chocolate sprinkles (I actually do remember asking this as a child) and call it fairy bread, because fairies like all the colours0 -

We always called that kind "dots" or "non-pareils" sprinkles are the long shaped ones (some people call them "jimmies"?) Weird how we all call them different things. That said, fairy bread sounds like a mouthful of diabetes.

That's exactly right! Fairies dont like brown!
I was going to write hundreds and thousands but thought that might confuse people lol.SpecialKitty7 wrote: »mangrothian wrote: »

Traditionally we do use the long shapes ones but I couldn't be bothered finding a picture

I am 48 and live in Melbourne and thought the round hundreds and thousands were the tradition. In fact, never bought the long shaped ones (which I refer to as sprinkles, to differentiate the 2) until I had Kids in my late 20s.
Still no bento lunches to show for me, despite working last Monday week and making one. I ran out of time to take a photo
I had some sauteed japanese style tofu, boiled egg, carrot and cucumber sticks with crunchy pb and a sliced apple. Also a small amount of avocado on an English muffin.
Not sure how many odd jobs I'll be getting in the near future.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed the Dr. Who box! It was fun to make .
Here is tomorrow's bento for training:
Layer one: carrot sticks and blueberries
Layer two: lime and parsley rice with chipotle/yogurt/cucumber/bell pepper/avocado/coconut honey shrimp mixture. I made it for dinner; it tastes a bit like a deconstructed shrimp California roll when mixed with the rice. Yummy0
