Silly question. When you cut food with a cutter, what do you do with the rest of the food? I love the wee star shapes, etc. but I don't like wasting food.

I eat that as my dinner, since I'm usually making lunch for the next work-day.

In fact, that's what my dinner is. Leftover omelette [Japanese-style, just an unrolled tamagoyaki] from when I did a cute face punch out [CuteZcute Animal Cutters], some goat cheese, and mixed greens with sesame ginger sauce... This dinner is less than 150 cal... And I have enough lunch packed for three days.

Thanks! Just Googled tamagoyaki, I didn't know what it was and look great. I must give it a try.

Oh wow. 400 is a really small bento box. Mine is 640 ml, and I sometimes struggle to get enough food in it.

    Regardless, the shrimp look delicious.

    Thank you^^
I actually had a hard time cutting and pulling them (as you can see one is not straight^^)

The 400ml is my smallest box that i use when i am also taking some fruit etc. with me for lunch

I've got more delicious berries today - and kiwi stars!! Steak, rice, and veggies make up the main part of the meal, but the fruit was the best part. Like having dessert :) Sorry the picture is blurry, but I can't take another one because it's all gone. I can take a picture of the empty bento if anyone wants to see it :p Total calories came out to just under 400 cal, which is what I aim for. I snack a lot throughout the day to keep my blood sugar up, so I try to eat less at lunch. I think most of my bento boxes are around 600ml, but I pack lots of veggies to keep calories down. For example, today's bento has a half-cup of mixed veggies taking up a lot of the large tier. (No I don't weigh, I measure or guesstimate.)

There's quite a few of us here who deal with hot weather (I'm Australian, it's what we do), so I understand your need for a cooler bag. I always take my lunch in one, with small freeze packs in Summer, since my lunch just needs to last getting to my office in the morning. For most of us who are on a calorie deficit (since you're lifting I assume you're not or its a very small one), our boxes are quite small, so a bag like that would be huge!
You don't weightlift? As I age I find if I want to lose or maintain, I *have* to lift, and lift heavy. Gave up yoga, it's okay but just not as time efficient as moving heavy bits of metal about. I have a bento box set but only use it for snacks. lol

Two eggs, whisk with fork; I use chopsticks. Don't completely blend, leave it a bit unmixed. Add a dash or two of soy sauce [dash of mirin if you have it, as well]. If you like, sprinkle in a little sugar; makes it sweet. Mix a little bit more... Dump into hot pan, flip when bottom seems solid enough.

You don't have to do it as the rolled; if you go flat, and have cookie cutters, you can cut out adorable shapes at the end! Great for decorating rice on a bento. Soooo yummy.

Okay, Today's box! On the left is shrimp and mushrooms sauteed in sesame oil and soy sauce, underneath is some steamed rice, on the left, is grapes, carrots & sugar snap peas with a pot of italian dressing for dipping. Total cals: 393. The picture doesn't look as appetizing as it does IRL, my kitchen must have terrible lighting.

Delicious STEAK CARBON TACO!!! Leftover from the extremely delicious Mexican place in front of my apartment (if I wasn't so broke, I'd be even fatter!) and I even kept a wedge of lime to squeeze on top! Also leftover rice from Chinese, and some edamame and strawberries. Very satisfying lunch :)

I'm curious if any of you guys have a sturdy carrier for your stuff? I just got brave and
got a bike and I'm trying to figure out how to rig it so I could get my lunch to work in
reasonable shape. Maybe an insulated carrier.
I made several cotton calico (lightweight) drawstring bags in various sizes & prints, so
depending on which box(es) I'm using I pull different bags. That's for when I can put lunch
into the fridge, or it doesn't need to stay cool.
Most of them also have matching sleeves for holding silverware, either plain fabric or (mostly)
lined with plastic (tablecloth). Not that I'm going overboard or anything...

I also have 2 what I'd call lunch bags, which are insulated (the thin fleece stuff that has metal in
    between the layers
) & big enough for most of my boxes, even several of the smaller ones
    together, plus more. They're substantial.
Made those too. Tops are zippered, so nothing will fall out.
That's for when I don't have access to a fridge, and I'll throw in a frozen water bottle or ice pack.

A suggestion for the bike... get a nice large wire basket (mine is on the rear wheel carrier), get
a bungee cord with hooks on the end, and make a V over the basket to make it less likely your
things will bounce out. A longer cord can do a V, plus run across side to side.

Also, if you pack the bento box right (if you use the more traditional fillings at least), it bouncing around a bit on your bike shouldn't affect it too much providing the lid is secure. I remember someone earlier in the thread did a box test - it's not packed tight enough unless you can stand it on its side (without the lid) and nothing falls out.

And if you ride with a small backpack, the thinner taller multi-compartment bento boxes might suit you better, like this or this

I finally bought the gem wraps- I can't remember who used to use them, but do you make them the same day or do they hold up if you make them the night before and set them in the fridge overnight? I'm excited to try them!

The are kinda like veggie fruit roll ups for adults. I know she was using them as tortillas for roll ups and wraps for lunch and I finally got some because they are gluten free and I keep glutening myself at lunch since I stopped making bentos a while back. Trying to get back into the habit again!

That sounds good! I found some low cal wraps [50 cal/wrap], but they were... Eh, for me. Good enough to hold my veggie burger, not much else.

I didn't use them but it sounded like they get a bit too soft when they sit with moist ingredients over night. It's probably better to make your wrap in the morning.
