Hugs to @Crafty_camper123 and @Lois_1989, chugging along and not seeing the rewards for your labor is hard. Meanwhile, I am over here not even logging and wanting to maintain while I let my abs heal and I have lost almost 4 pounds since Monday. What the kitten was my gallbladder doing that caused me not to lose??2

Maybe your gallbladder weighed 4 pounds? Not that I know the size of a gallbladder... I imagine it’s tiny.0 -

I have seen the path report, it weighed around 30 grams and had two 1.7 cm stones in it. Definitely not enough to explain the loss. (for comparison a typical uterus weighs 250-500 grams when they weigh it after a hysterectomy)1 -
I hope it gets better for you soon Nicole.
So maybe I am an awful person, but to all those dad friends who just moan and whinge about how they have no fun any more and their whole lives have changed, I am judging their dad and husband skills majorly. Of course your life is going to change, kids are a massive upheaval, but you can change too to adapt and enjoy. Sure my husband gets less time to build robots than he did before, but he gets more time to play with the kids which he loves.
Also, I am so rolling my eyes at any husband who complains the wife has let herself go and that he isn't getting any. She will KNOW he feels that way even if he hasn't said it to her, and that will not help her feel sexy. And chances are she has even less time to herself than he does, so if he expects her to 'look after' herself, he needs to step up and give her the opportunity before complaining to his childless mates.
Your husband will step up, and he will be fine. And you'll probably have less sex for a while, but your relationship is strong enough to ride through that, you'll be ok.
Anyway, rant over. Tldr: unimpressed at man who is shocked life changing event changes his life.
Well said!0 -
Just found out today the boy is having his grommets operation and possible adenoids removal next Wednesday! There was a cancellation and this drops right during the Easter holidays so I jumped at the chance. Bit shocked, but rather get it over and done with before he starts school at the end of the month. Dreading the general anaesthetic, but distracting myself by organising fun activities to do while he recovers. So much play dough equipment...
Gromments?
Best of luck to him and you ❤1 -

Anne-Marie, I agree. I remember going on a women's retreat with my church when Tamara was 5 and Ian was 2. The moms got to talking about where the kids were and I said mine were at home with Denni. Someone actually said, "You let your husband babysit?" I replied, "He's not babysitting. He's parenting his children like he always does.". And I have heard him tell new dads to stay home and do laundry for their wife instead of coming to guys night out.
OMG I HATE when someone calls it babysitting. So ridiculous!!1 -

Someone to take care of him.
However, he is 9 years older than the missing boy. You can clearly see the difference between a 23 year old man and a 12 year old boy!1 -

Grommets are drain tubes in his ears to prevent ear infections. It's better than multiple rounds of antibiotics that don't work anyway because the fluid is just sitting behind the ear drum instead of making it into the Eustachian tubs to drain to your throat and away. They're super tiny so I think grommet is actually a better word.1 -

Eww! I bet you guys don't need much more rain. How much damage did all the flooding do by the previous rains?0 -

Fortunately, not too much. There are some gnarly potholes that need fixing, and some water damage to the homes close to creeks, but by now, everyone who lives in them knows not to use the basement. Unfortunately, my neighbors had water in their basement because their foundation wasn't sealed properly. We are a mile from the river and up on the hill, they think they have their drainage issues fixed and the basement sealed. I think they have a tree they need removed or it will happen again, but it's not my house.
It's supposed to be sunny the rest of this week, so maybe we won't be in too much trouble.0 -
@kellyjellybellyjelly you made me curious so I checked our local almanac data. We ended 2018 with 12" more than our annual average rainfall and are 7.3 inches over our average so far for 2019. We definitely don't need more rain just yet.1

Well, we had "The baby talk". I've got the poor guy pretty freaked out. But hopefully maybe in my favor. The idea of kids terrifies him. He said he doesn't want to say anything that would break my heart. ( His knee jerk response is HELL NO with a side of F THAT). I've left the conversation alone for a few days now, and he's the one who's bringing it up. Saying things like " If this is what you want then we need to...>insert preperation plan here<." and stuff like that. We were at walmart I told him I wanted to look at the ladies clothes, and he says " I don't wanna!" started heading the wrong direction. I say " Let's go this way". And he goes " Uh isn't the BABY department over here??" "No honey, I said LADIES department" l Now granted, we have a friend and a cousin who's pregnant now, and baby showers are next month, but still. It was pretty funny to me. So maybe there's hope.4

Babies are awesome, and hard, and a time-suck, and pure love in a tiny bundle.4

What Quik said. I'm glad he's coming around. When he gives you something to do as far as planning, make a start on that.
What about your job? = check into it with your HR department. Does short term disability pay out during maternity leave? If so, pick it up before you are pregnant.
What about daycare? = start checking with your friends with babies about what they like and do not like about their daycares.
What about paying for college? = Google 529 education plans. And start adding $ to a savings account that can be moved to one after baby is born. If you need the money to pay your deductible for delivery, that's fine too.
Can you tell I had four kids? LOL.
ETA: involve him in these planning questions too. He will feel better the more involved he is. Men like control.2 -

This is good! I would take that as acceptance and he is already planning! That or he is trying to freak you out into changing your mind. That’s if Mel’s comment hasn’t already done that.

I didn't mean to freak either of you out, Lois. It was just stuff I know are the first parenting questions. And if you do your research before a positive pregnancy test, you will feel less overwhelmed by these things. (And the whole maternity leave thing is different in the UK anyway so my questions about that don't apply to you.)1 -

I am in full research mode already, lol! I'm taking his what if type planning questions as a sign of acceptance. Because of how he words it. Like telling me now I REALLY need to get in shape and stay in shape during pregnancy, because it makes pregnancy/ birthing easier. I need to find out about how maternity leave works here. Most women take the standard 6 weeks off, but I don't know what they offer in terms of payment. And the daycare? I'm quite worried about that. I really want to ask stay at home relatives if they are willing to watch future child for me and save the cost of daycare. But I also don't want to get thier hopes up, lol. And my friends have thier kids in these fancy pants day cares that cost way too much IMO. Or they stay home. So I'm going to have to do my own research and start calling people, lol.
And Mel? I'm the oldest of 4, so I get it, LOL. My youngest brothers (Twins) were born when I was 13. So I was key help during thier earlier years. On one hand it's because of them that babies and little kids don't intimidate me. It's also a big reason I've waited so long to decide, lol. At 13, I was old enough to see the financial & life impact that having two babies in the house does. Talk about effective birth control! But my expirience will help me out if and when this baby thing happens.5 -

Uh, I don’t know, I would say they do all apply. Maybe swap the college one for saving for a first property. They announced the other day that the average person in England will spend 10 years saving enough money for a deposit to buy their first property. The only way we did is through inheritance.2 -
