What nobody tells you about losing weight

That there is a reason why not too many overweight people do yoga... I had a hard time with fat stomach and arms keeping me from certain poses... Whatever though, I'm going to keep doing it.
ETA- I was THE ONLY overweight person in a full class...33 -
How wonderful it is to meet new people and they don't have an 'old' image of you in their head somewhere.

I told someone recently that Yoga is the only exercise that makes me feel fat. Sure with others I am out of breath and sweaty but with Yoga I can feel all of my rolls and fat. I still go, as well, because one day I will be bendy!

That I can feel like I'm cheating on one set of exercises if I do another kind on an off day. Huh?14

This is me. I feel smaller, but my photos still show a big girl...
Yep. This. I don't let it get me down though because I feel great and I know I'm heading in the right direction.
Can we also talk about the difference in mirrors? Sometimes I get ready and look in the full length mirror at home and think I look slim and then later see myself in a different mirror and think "OMG I'm huge!" The mirrors at my gym keep it real and do not lie LOL
Omg, absolutely with the mirrors!!! Also, mirror vs pictures.... 2 different tales. It must be an optical illusion. I just don't know which one is right!
Yes! I'll look in mirror and think I'm looking slimmer and then take a pic and think... Nope!

No kidding!!! You can feel so strong and powerful in other exercises, but Yoga can make you feel so humbled. I think it is a great workout and I need it so much for flexibility and balance, but I definitely feel fat and stiff!!9 -
That your sense of balance would get better. I walk around the yard a couple of times a day and it has higher spots and dips in it and I don't nearly lose my balance anymore when I step in a dip.14

I find I can't just forget tracking and go forth. I make it one day and I have to track again or will be out in fat city again in no time.

I went from 214 lbs to 180 lbs and just am stuck for about a month now. It's almost like I hit a wall.. so re thinking everything, I started over on here. I am starting at 183 lbs and not 214 lbs anymore. My goal is 165 lbs. So I think my what no one tells you about weight loss is the bumps in the road you will face! It's not just reaching your goal...it's the long journey it's going to take! It may be easy, it may not be. I am on the it's not easy journey!sohifirefly wrote: »IILikeToMoveItMoveIt wrote: »That there is a reason why not too many overweight people do yoga... Yoga is one of the activities where I actually feel so much improvement from my weight loss. I enjoy it so much more now as well.14 -
Spandex/lycra cycling shorts are no longer a terrifying prospect, lol!

That your body is still used to the weight and keeps trying to put the same effort into getting out of bed, out of chairs, off the couch as though it still had that weight. I nearly fell off my bed a couple of times last week because I bent over too far. Same with chairs and the couch. I still occasionally feel like I am trying to throw myself down the stairs on occasion.25

That I would have to keep readjusting Bra straps, pull up leggings as I run lol17

That the discipline of counting calories, exercising and staying focused on it will carry over to other parts of your life and make you more focused and help you stay on those tasks that you want or need to finish.40

I wasn't prepared for how long it would take my brain to accept my new physical body (45lbs). It was almost like I was inhabiting someone else's body.
How hard it is to just say 'thank you' when someone gives you a compliment instead of putting yourself down.
I've learned when people ask you to help them with losing weight, they usually don't mean it! The best response is to refer them to myfitnesspal and tell them to find what works for them because we're all different.
I've loved having more energy. I've loved having those little moments ... realizing I took the stairs without thinking about it and wasn't short of breath, trying new things like kayaking, an inflatable 5K, that I can shop in certain stores again.

I want to run. NOW!!!
Post Script.
Ive already have had two people tell me this morning (just as I walked in) to "Stop losing weight, Already."
Tell them to mind their own business!!! People tell me I am not eating right BUT I eat extremely healthy now and do not eat or drink junk food. So their version of not eating right is in left field of fat!!!6 -

This is awesome. Made me smile!9 -
That you would get the whole "You know, you can stop now. Don't loose too much weight" much, much sooner than you think you will. I think they're so used to the fat me that they're not yet used to the not-as-fat-me, and can't imagine getting to the skinny-me.
But it's okay, 'cause I'm right there with them.29 -
The happy experience of finding there are loads of things in the 'sale' racks in most shops in my size. Because I'm just an ordinary size now, one of those sizes for which the shops order 10 of everything.

I met one of our male employees, walking down a hallway this morning. I moved to the side to let him pass and he told me I certainly didn't need to do that. "You are getting so thin, I think there is room for both of us!" I am nowhere near "thin", but it is nice when people notice the effort.34

This cracked me up! So true! I feel like I am leaping off of my chair these days. Fun stuff right there. Congrats!6 -

This really made me laugh! I have 3 cats, one of them is generally uninterested, but the other 2, well the second I pick up weights they are frolicking around my legs like they want to do them with me. The only way to get rid of them sometimes is to go on the treadmill. This is still the machine of fear for them, they sit from a safe distance with a look of disapproval on their faces. It is like they are saying ''What is this witchcraft!? Her legs are moving and she goes NOWHERE!!!''
Mine try to lay on me when I'm down on the mat doing crunches or something. Yeah... don't need an added 15 pounds of cat there...thanks.10 -

It's VERY hard at first, but after you (figuratively) slap the $#!+ out of yourself and get a grip on your actions, you can walk past the pastry and cookie buffet they have at the office without your knees buckling or clawing out your eyes. Breaking addictions feels very good and gives you back control over your thoughts. Otherwise, while you're addicted, all you ever think about are the foods you're craving and when you'll eat them next.
I'm two months in this time, and I still want pastries really badly. However after cutting 90% of the sugar I was consuming I've noticed some inflammation issues I was having are almost gone.

Yeah, especially since I don't need to bend over and can just stand up. The bending to get up is still a habit.3 -

Same here after cutting out sugar and all grains two years ago. After a month my carb cravings where greatly limited and pain levels down from 7-8 to 2-3. Below is three annual lab results after cutting carbs to just <50 grams of carbs as of Oct 2014.
Pre LCHF (two years ago) labs were:
Total Cholesterol - 226
HDL - 38
LDL - 146
Triglycerides - 209
9 months of LCHF (one year ago) labs were:
Total Cholesterol - 404
HDL - 56
LDL - 323
Triglycerides - 121
17 months of LCHF (today) labs were:
Total Cholesterol - 257
HDL - 63
LDL - 186
Triglycerides - 36
The new doctor said keep doing what I am doing because it is working and that now Total Cholesterol has to be at >290 before they consider statins, etc. She was not hype pro LCHF but she said the numbers proved it was working for me. I think my numbers helped her better understand the first year of LCHF sending Cholesterol through the roof is NORMAL for some. I refused statins last year because I knew it was normal to shot up because the body takes a while to stop producing high cholesterol that is produced to protect against high inflammation.10 -
The difficulty of feeling so proud of yourself as you meet those short term goals, then realizing that to the outside world you are still just a "fat" person.
This makes me sad that you feel that way. When I'm at the gym and I see overweight people working out; I admire them for putting themselves out there and doing the long hard work it will take to get fit. In my mind I cheer them on. Perhaps I'm unique ..but hopefully not.
I think your statement is more true when an overweight person does nothing to improve.. people judge harshly in their minds.

I literally just realized I still bend to get up too even though I don't need to. I didn't even notice it until I saw this post!
