Maybe for now you can order off of the internet? Most places have free returns and if you use a tape measure to measure yourself you should be able to get pretty accurate wig sizes
Very much a fan of internet shopping!! Sometimes it's nice to go for a wee wander, see what's there & try things outside your usual style though. To some extent, it is vanity sizing. I remember reading a lot of posts on here about how US size 00 is what used to be a US size 6-8 a few decades ago.
Absolutely, very similar here in the UK too for sure!
The hubs just meant vanity sizing or no, they are half the size of the clothes I used to have to buy. Even with vanity incorporated into that he meant...stop downplaying your success, no matter what the label SHOULD say size wise, it's still a massive amount of weight to have lost. He tries to drill it into me cos for some reason, I'm always of the opinion I'm not at goal & therefore not a "real" success yet... saying the labels aren't *really* whatever size is sort of part of that if it makes sense?...totally stupid, I know, but that's my brain for you! 😆12 -

Ohhhh, I am sorry I misunderstood what you were getting at in the post! If that is you in your photo, you have surely made astounding change no matter what the clothing size is! To go from a 22 to a 8/10/12 is huge.
Haha, it's okay, I didn't explain it very well at all so it's my fault!
It is me...though the photo needs updating, which is crazy as it feels as if I only just took it! Thanks for your kind words, it's really difficult to accept myself how I am now I'm in a place I've never been before, even though there's so much "proof" of my loss so far.
Couple of weeks ago hubs & I took photos that both amazed & amused us no end! (so sorry to anyone who has seen this in the NSV thread already) Was a helpful step towards the neverending "acceptance" thing though...
This is both of us in a pair of jeans I used to wear up to August 2017. They are a UK size 22 so I think that makes them US 18/20? (The sizing conversions say different things!)
They've got no stretch in them at all & although slack on the waist there was a time they were uncomfortably tight on my thighs....now we both fit into them with the button & zip done up!! I've been obese nearly my entire life & the smallest I'd been was when I was 18...probably 2 sizes bigger than I am now so the whole thing takes SO much getting used to 😂...not sure I ever will 100%!
Sure this is something so many of us struggle with & I'm sure folk who have had less weight to lose could easily feel the same way too. Always amazes me how much of a rollercoaster it can be on the emotions & how I've never personally met anyone outside of MFP who understands that... absolutely love reading these forums ...so comforting to know you're far from alone in discovering things noone told you about!❤️

That I don’t care as much about my label size. I mean, I can’t say I don’t care at all bc that would be a total lie, but I know that whatever the tag says, I’m still the same size. My thighs haven’t magically expanded or contracted based on which jeans I’m wearing (well, except that certain sizes may smush the fat upward )
And I don’t care what size anyone else is either. I have a notoriously bad eye and see everyone else with a slimming lense and myself as my former chubby self. So I’m realizing that sometimes the smaller friend really does think you can wear her clothes, she’s not trying to make you feel huge (what I used to feel as the bigger girl).
Everyone has their hang ups. You’re stressing the size 10 is tight? I’m annoyed I can’t fill out the chest of my dress and that it’s tighter in the arms and calves (the joys of lifting, I suppose) or that my butt is not big enough (the heartbreak of underactive glutes, gotta remedy that)
I got to see an alternate vision of my future, if you will, the other week. I was shopping at an upmarket chain store (with some awesome clearance sales!) that caters to late 40s to 60s and in the other dressing room was a lady maybe 7-10 years my senior who was constantly talking loudly about needing the small, she was always a size 6, etc, refusing to buy the medium jacket even though she couldn’t do up the small (“I never wear it buttoned!” —me, to myself: it’s a winter coat, woman! Be warm!). Verbalizing my former internal conversations.
I wanted to say, be comfortable and buy what you look good in—you’re not wearing the size on the outside, are you? And even if you were, so what? That has nothing to do with who you are and whether you will be joyful in your own skin (see “hang ups” comment above ). (The snarky part of me wanted to bring up the rampant vanity sizing at this particular store, but I held my tongue)18 -

I have in my closet right now clothing labelled everything from "Small", "Medium" to "Large" and even a few oddball "Extra Large" items...I have labels claiming I'm everything from size 8-12 as well. Sizes aren't consistent between designers and sometimes even the same designer. Cut and fit make a difference too. When you try to fit your body to the clothing rather than focus on fitting the clothing TO your body, it leads to unnecessary suffering.
(Although it is gratifying when you get to wear a "Small" after being obese for far too long. )17 -
Moving...being active!
When I was obese (especially) and even overweight--movement (vs. being mostly sedentary) was something I avoided like the plague. Why? Because movement (any kind really..walking up stairs, walking to get the mail, walking in general was so painful to/for me). I'd walk a few steps and get "winded". When I did move, it was super slow. My knees, feet and body all over would literally hurt as I made even the tiniest steps. Sitting on my bohunkus all day and night, just couch potato-ing and being (quite frankly) lazy as can be "felt" comfortable and peaceful and good. Dancing--ugh, I tried, but would get major league winded after just one minute or so. As I HATED water, veggies, apples, and a lot more stuff I used to HATE with a passion and was just a major league turn-off when I was "fat" I'm now craving like mad all the time and daily...as these things I now love (being so-called" normal weight now, as I got down to size after MANY years of trying and failing) when I was obese/overweight, moving my body, I HATED--with so much serious YUCK--I DIDN'T(and wouldn't) WANT TO MOVE MY BODY AT ALL, NONE-(moving and being active, I saw as being a "pain in the neck and just deceived myself into believing was something I just couldn't and refuse to do. {{{{*eye-roll*}}}}
No more honey, uh-uh, I LOVE moving so much, especially walking and dancing. It's like I can't stand being still and HATE being sedentary now. I just MUST move this body and in fun and lively ways too. I find myself marching and again, dancing of sorts even doing the simplest daily things. I can dance, walk and move this body so much faster and not losing ANY breath at all. So all this to say, if you're struggling with basic movement, basic walking and getting around, let me promise you that as you get down to size, these seemingly "simple" things will actually one day become simple in your life too. It's just going to take some time, but you WILL experience the delight of not only walking, dancing and moving your body--but it's going to feel ULTRA good too=BOOM!23 -

I know, right?!? Walking to me now is utterly exhilarating and just a JOY to/for me now. I started out MAKING myself walk to and from the grocery store (instead of driving) 2-4 times per week. The store is about 2-2.5 or so miles one way. At first, it was like climbing Mt. Rushmore or better yet, Mt. Everest--so HARD it was for me--such UGH. After a week fews of doing this, honey...I was walking to the grocery store and carrying the bags back like a champion or better yet, like I did when I was a young, MANY moons ago.
I'm telling you, walking to the store, library, and a lot of functions you do (that's a mile or two or so) away from your home or office, instead of driving does something WONDERFUL in/thru/to you. YES, it's hard at first, but as you find yourself using the car/driving LESS to places that are within walking distance will change your life something fabulous--I promise!
I now super LOVE walking EVERYWHERE (and not fast walking either, just leisurely strolling--PURPOSELY not wanting my heart rate to go up--PURPOSELY taking my time and refusing to rush/hurry, but just walking for the sake enjoying the scenery, getting a LOT of fresh air, meditating on stuff and just chillaxing as I walk is so, ummmmmm...FUN and GOOD for me, my mind, my body and everything in between--I LOVE WALKING NOW!!!!
ETA: At first, I started walking to the grocery store to MAKE MYSELF MOVE THIS BODY, now walking is not a "I HAVE to do this/walking...now it's a I GET to go for a walk--it's a sheer unadulterated pleasure, walking is--no longer a "burden nor woe is me" deal for and to me and I promise, it will be for you too--again, it's going to take some time. ALWAY remember, SLOW and STEADY wins the race, I'm a witness to this truth.17 -

I find it interesting how selective my perception of my new body size is. I have no hesitation at all ordering work or casual clothes in my current size. However, if I'm browsing workout clothes, I either go right to plus size or else just assume that nothing cute could possibly fit or flatter me. And for the record, I'm a size 10 on the bottom and 12 on the top--not really even on the edge of regular/plus size clothes!14

If you have a lot to lose, you’ll likely need to change your workout routines every 2-3 months as your body becomes used to them and requires yet more work — lol. At least, that’s how it’s been for me so far.16

It becomes awkward having the regularly-recurring weightloss and exercise conversations with family, friends or work collegues.
I have my health-related stories and opinions. They have their health-related stories and opinons.
Over the last two years, I have noticably lost a lot of weight and put on a lot of muscle. I am healthy, full of energy and happy where I am going. They are the same person they were last year. They are not in particularly good health nor happy where they are.
I am adventurer talking about travel with someone who has never left their hometown. I try to be polite and open, but the conversations are awkward.33 -

I am 5ft 7 inches female Indian, srarted at 203 lbs in June 2018 snd down to 183 in Nov. i did this by caloriedefcit stucking to low carb diet. Tracked calories 1200-1300 some days went to 1000 macros 100 gm protein, 40-60 gms carbs, fat 60/70 gms. All my test results are normal but since Aug 2018 myhair is sheddingvlike crazy, long strands just keep coming out. I’ve been takin Biotin 20,000 mcg once a day (2 capsules 10,000 mcg) but no respite. Pl HELP!!!! Im going crazy tryg to think of ways. Will this ever stop???

Yes I'm having that problem now too, and I haven't figured out how to stop it either. I did start taking iodine drops on top of all the other vitamins because I had all the symptoms of iodine deficiency so maybe that will help.

I'm having it too. I'm eating 1300-1400 right now but there was a period where I was eating a lot less. I had to add some things I cut out back in because I wasn't getting enough calories. Now I'm consistently eating 1200-1400 and the hair loss hasn't stopped yet.1 -

Ive suffered from hypothyroidism since I was 15 and havegone through several rounds of losing hair due to TSH being too low or too high butit went away everytime after adjusting my medication. For thefirst time myhairisshedding profusely notdue to thyroid. Am I eatg too less? Iused to be on 1500/1600 cals anddid not lose wt so Inhad to cut down.
I'm having it too. I'm eating 1300-1400 right now but there was a period where I was eating a lot less. I had to add some things I cut out back in because I wasn't getting enough calories. Now I'm consistently eating 1200-1400 and the hair loss hasn't stopped yet.
If it's from poor nutrition/low calories, it could take some time (think about 6 months).4 -
@smantha32 and @adchak I think if I was showing significant hair loss I would be talking to my doctor - blood tests may help identify the cause x4

When I was a youngster, my father used to tell me so many CRAZY things (at least at the time I considered them CRAZY), stuff like "NEVER say never" or "one person's trash is another person's treasure". He used to tell me TONS of things like that, which again, at the time sounded like some crazy old coot stuff. Nope, he was right. I've ALWAYS hated and was actually "offended" by iceberg lettuce salads, ever since I was young. I considered iceberg lettuce salads a complete waste of time and always saw them as nutritious as a glass of water (which I now LOVE and super mega crave all the time now). Anyhoo, about a few weeks ago, I started eating/adding simple chilled iceberg lettuce salads to my main meal. WOW...I'm so in love with chilled Avocado Caesar salads, simple chilled iceberg, tomato, red onion salads and chilled iceberg salads in general--I LOVE THEM NOW and have one daily.
Daddy was right, never say never. What you once hated and avoided when/as you are obese/overweight, you will find yourself loving as you get down to size. Not merely with food, but in so many other areas of your life.13 -
Has anyone experienced hair loss while losing weight?
I am 5ft 7 inches female Indian, srarted at 203 lbs in June 2018 snd down to 183 in Nov. i did this by caloriedefcit stucking to low carb diet. Tracked calories 1200-1300 some days went to 1000 macros 100 gm protein, 40-60 gms carbs, fat 60/70 gms. All my test results are normal but since Aug 2018 myhair is sheddingvlike crazy, long strands just keep coming out. I’ve been takin Biotin 20,000 mcg once a day (2 capsules 10,000 mcg) but no respite. Pl HELP!!!! Im going crazy tryg to think of ways. Will this ever stop???

Yes, I had the same experience. Took all of the same blood tests and they were normal. I did go to my doctor who mentioned that it's pretty common and she didn't see big chunks of loss so she wasn't too concerned. I had had some life stress, started taking blood thinners and then restricting my calories which all accumulated to hair loss.
I lost 61lbs and my hair is back. I didn't take any supplements or anything, I did increase my protein intake but not sure if that helped it all.
My doctor said that the loss usually starts 3-5 months the after the traumatic event that caused it. So not sure if you might hit have really deeply restricted calories to get to where you are now but you may just have to ride it out. Also, you could've experience a high stress event to trigger it as well.

That one day you might go to an Italian restaurant and order the vegetable option, only eat half of the pasta, decide it has waaaay too few vegetables in it (there really were only a few tiny chunks of pumpkin and zucchini!) and order a salad for dessert. Bonus is you get to make your twenty-something kids roll their eyes and say you’re going too far! 😂11

I LOVE crunchy iceberg lettuce! Adding avocado will definitely make it more filling- that's a great idea!

Responding to the original post (which I know is more than 3 years old ... but I'm new around here ...)
This for me (I'm sure like others) is not my first go-around with trying to lose weight. My wife and I -- that's her in my profile pic -- are determined that we need to get the excess lbs off so that we can be TOGETHER longer! As I say, <i>till we're old and gray and fart dust!</i>.
But one of the biggest challenges I'm facing this time around? The excess skin I'm starting to develop! Currently down just over 30lb (of a total of 80 I still need to lose!) and I've got the sort of belly skin that I just don't know what to do with it. Don't wanna buy "Spanks" until I'm closer to goal, and insurance won't cover skin removal. But we're doing this together!16
