No one ever told me how much fun it is to shop at Goodwill. There are way more clothes in smaller sizes including from some of my favorite stores. Instead of spending $50 for a shirt, I'm spending $4. I have been collecting sizes down to 12's in pants. I'm in 16's now but hope to be in 12's by summer. Bring it on!!
This is the best kept secret for saving money while losing weight. Who can afford to buy retail for a new wardrobe every time a dress size or measurement goes down?
I'm doing the same thing. I have pants going down by sizes. As I get slimmer I have another pair of pants to put on.
I love Gloria Vanderbilt pants and jeans. For some reason they fit right and doesn't cross over my belly button like other brands. I'm short waist-ed (rib to hip is short) and I find having the button go over that area is very uncomfortable while sitting down. Every time I see a pair I buy them even if they are slightly too tight. It keeps me motivated to lose weight.
As I get slimmer I donate my clothes to a thrift store.14 -

Thank you for the tip on pants! When I start wearing them again I'll need that info. Because - nobody ever told me I was short waisted! The distance between my ribs and hips is like - two inches or something like that, but I never had the opportunity to find that out before because it was covered by fat.

Yes! This is my kid and I. The words "I just weighed that out, get your own!!" have flown out of my mouth so many times over the last 6 months.19 -
Bad breath while losing weight is usually caused by fat molecules breaking down and causing keytones, this is especially true in low carb diets (Keto). You can usually correct this by hitting daily goals of carbs,
upping your protein and staying hydrated.4 -
That your cup size might go up instead of down/the same. Cup size is a ratio of bust to band size, so if you're like me and carried a lot of fat on your back, the band size might go down without the bust shrinking, calculating a larger cup size.
Edit: wrote waistband to describe an article of clothing that goes nowhere near the waist.19 -
Falling on your buttocks hurts worse! Less padding! Fell off a wheeled chair yesterday at work, from a sitting position, while leaning over to fix a electrical plug that came apart. And had just said to my coworkers, "I need to be careful I don't fall off this chair." And I immediately fell on my tush! Hurting pretty bad today. I hope I didn't break my coccyx. Did that once before and I didn't sit right for 6 months!11

That if you have never lost weight before, and you are down some significant sizes (I have lost over 105 lbs) clothes that don't "fit right" are actually too big - even if you think they could not be. I have a Christmas shirt that I wore when I was a size 26 and now that I am size 12-14 I put it on, and think, "It still fits great, it's just the shoulders have gotten weird." Hmmm, I don't bother wrapping my head around it. And I do think that if I eat too many snacks one time, I gain 105 lbs.18

It's a body dismorphia thing. Takes awhile. I've been there, when I lost before, and going through it again. Even now when I think of my weight today, I seem to add at least 20 lbs, till I take a second thought and get the correct weight. @justanotherloser007 you can wear the Christmas shirt as a nightgown now!7 -

That sometimes you gain weight back, and you're flabbier than before and have lost lean muscle mass- decreasing your metabolism 😫 So now I'm losing weight again, but this time ensuring I am doing high intensity interval training almost every day (to build and maintain muscle), and ensuring I get plenty of protein every day. I have read up on 'how to lose weight and keep lean muscle mass when dieting. How I wish I knew this at the very beginning. We're all wiser in hindsight I suppose.
Also that if I restrict too much it can lead to binge eating which is awful. So now I try and make sure I include a few unhealthy foods too- but just have much smaller quantities. Its worked16 -
As of today.. I am down 31kg. (68lb) and am now finally only considered overweight instead of morbidly obese. (current weight is 75.2kg (166lb)) What I have learned so far...
-My feet have shrunk almost 1.5 sizes already.. Who the hell knew your feet got smaller???? (side note, shoes are expensive)
-My Belly no longer touches the steering wheel when I drive.. in fact its about 15-20cm away...
-My brain still thinks I am a size 20 AU.. and I keep trying on clothes that are too big for me. I need someone with me or I am likely to come home with a shirt too big.
-I am convinced all clothing labels are suddenly lying about their sizes because I fit them. (I wish I was kidding about this one)
But by far.. the best and most unexpected side effect?... I can walk down stairs without having to hold on.

When you stop eating sugary foods, just a little sugar goes a long way. I used to love plain M&M's. Last week, I had a handful and was instantly sorry. Waaaaay too sweet.21

This is one I truly did not expect, but is definitely not just in my head because my husband has noticed.
I am more fit and capable than I have ever been but at goal weight people have started treating me like I'm going to break/can't do things on my own/am some kind of incompetent. It is very, very strange and I hate it.20 -

Are you sure that it isn't just that people now find you more attractive and therefore want to do things for you? When I was 85lbs/6 stone heavier, I seemed to often be invisible. No one offered to help me when I struggled with heavy packages, no one held a door open for me, no helpful person volunteered to return a grocery trolley, etc. Now that I am much thinner, I get all sorts of help - welcomed or not.13 -

No. I mean maybe but it's usually kind of insulting. Not 'let me grab the door' but 'let me carry that you'll drop it and it'll break' stuff. Or 'that's too far/too difficult for you'. Or the paddleboard guy deciding I could not get my own board onto the dock (?) So if it's just helpful it's coming with compliments that are backhanded at BEST and I still hate it. Mostly because it's blocking me out of stuff I am VOLUNTEERING TO DO in various capacities to make things move faster that no one in the five previous years of doing those jobs has said crap to me about I'm suddenly getting 'No no, we'll find someone else' brush off stuff. Maybe I suddenly smell, maybe it's because I look older (and being less fat definitely means I look older now). Regardless I am not mistaking normal 'hold the door' type manners for this stuff.11 -

NOBODY at work has said a word.... All day long I keep thinking, "today is the day someone is going to mention my weight loss" But it hasn't happened. Down 35 pounds and several inches! But at least my kids and ex have noticed! They tell me every time they see me.
Good stuff:
I can tie my shoes straight on! I don't have to contort my body to the side to get around my gut! I can actually lean down while sitting on the bed and tie them. The knot sits in the middle where it is supposed to be, instead of off to the side.
I have about $1000 dollars' worth of exotic outerwear and cycling clothing that fits again! It's been like a trip to REI opening the back of my closet!
I swear people are more friendly and open to me now. It sucks but our culture is not nice when you're fat.30 -

This hit home with me. I guarantee you people have noticed your weight loss, but most won't say anything. I've lost over 80 pounds during the past 13 months and I've had TWO people say something to me - one of them is also on a "weight loss journey" so it came up in a conversation we were having about workouts. My wife and son don't even mention it anymore unless it's to tell me the clothes I 'm wearing are too big. I've always leaned towards loose fitting clothes and am still learning to wear clothes that "fit" properly. Keep up the great work and know that even if they aren't saying it, your coworkers are aware of the changes you're making!6 -

It may never happen. These days, anything anyone says at work, even with good intentions, can go badly very quickly. I'm sure everyone has noticed - and congratulations, by the way! - but are either afraid to offend you by complimenting your weight loss, implying you were once overweight or scared of being charged with inappropriate conduct or sexual harassment. It happens! Fortunately, the people that matter most - your loved ones - have noticed and are supportive. So are we!

@wunderkindking So now, people think because you are tiny you can't lug heavy things! I know what you mean, now that I have lost 109 lbs, people think I can't walk without an attack dog! Lols, I actually got way more honks and aggression from the road when I was morbidly obese. Now, people do NOT see me when I cross the road! It has been dangerous on more than one occasion. The hubby one day I was taking my walk, was concerned for me because there was fog - and he wondered if someone would "attack me because I couldn't see them." But I was all like, "When I was fatter that would have been more likely because they could see me. I presented a large target. Now, evidently, I am more like a ghost." Even my tiny short friends have asked, "will your dog protect you when you walk?" etc. My pumpkin spice pibble is the kindest dog ever and he will not protect me. But when I was 100 lbs overweight, you can bet I had a 105 lb lab and a 85 lb shepherd with me every day while I was walking. I am stronger and much much faster now than ever before! I just am in a smaller package. I am not offended by the different reactions. I would like to be seen more by drivers though. But people and cell phones - I may just end up a smear on asphalt somewhere.7

@wunderkindking and @justanotherloser007 - Really interesting thread that I hadn't thought about before. We can't know what people are thinking, but it does seem to be the case, that people associate small with weak. And many folks actively ignore or are hostile to large people.
I notice this particularly with plane travel. Being obese on a plane is no fun at all - you are squished into your seat - you might end up with bruises on your hips, depending on the plane. You might need a seat belt extension (the ultimate mortification moment) and just navigating the aisle can be a struggle. All of this is made worse by the hostility that other passengers feel towards you - especially if they end up having to sit next to you. Not once when traveling as a 285 woman, did anyone ever offer to help me load by carry on into the overhead bin. Not that I really needed help, but I noticed that once I crossed into "healthy BMI" territory offers of assistance poured in. I don't need help and I go out of my way to help others - no matter their size. But it's weird. Where were you when plane travel was a struggle?10 -

I realize there's a difference between someone trying to kiss you and someone complimenting your looks, but if I'd been able to tell that manager to knock it off when he commented on my *kitten* (or, better, if he'd known he just better not bc "these days," ) probably it wouldn't have gotten to the walk-in incident.

After losing weight, I have noticed a lot of family and friends make negative comments about me. It was bad enough always being told I was too big and had to diet. Now they are always on me about needing to gain weight. I am happy with where I am now. I told them it isn't about how I look. I just want to FEEL healthier. I was always getting picked on as a child.......and at home. I lost weight in high school. As an adult.....I gained a lot of weight after I had my 2nd child. He is now 10 years old and I feel happy about my weight. You need to ignore the haters and do you. Get to that point where you feel good, you feel healthy, you feel happy with your progress. You are doing it for you....not to please others. I am just focusing on toning now.20

Yes! It's a very freeing feeling when you realize that those unhelpful comments are a reflection of the speaker's insecurities and have nothing to do with you.

That I’d be feeling all over my body while I’m going to sleep at night…I’m always rubbing my hands over my tummy, hip bones, boobs, thighs, etc to see if I can feel my body changing. My hip bones have just recently started poking out a little when I’m laying on my back. And sadly my boobs have deflated a bit more just recently. I love feeling my tummy shrinking, although it’s getting a little wrinkly, too, so it’s a shrinkin’ and a wrinklin’ lol17
