Michele, at the bottom of each post there is a little "flag" next to the "quote" button. You click on that to report spam or inappropriate posts. I did it once before and the offending post was removed and I got a message from the powers that be saying it had been removed. The message from "princess" looked like spam.
Mary, yes to Davy Jones! I actually went to see the Monkees in concert in Wichita. Gosh that was a long time ago. Also went to see the Cowsills. Loved that guy too, but now can't remember his name.
The HUD people came yesterday to inspect the new apartment, but it didn't pass inspection, but it was only two very small flaws that will be easily corrected and they will come re inspect it on Monday. Hubby has agreed to help front the deposit if needed because he knows how important this is.
Gotta get going. Have a great Saturday!

Sylvia - awesome news about the new apartment for your son!!
Gilly - yes lots of walking - could have been more if I was by myself. But the little guy would have really just wanted to sit on the lawn tractors and pretend to drive... so we finally convinced him that DGP needed help with the chores at home and we best get going.
Some one back awhile asked about game shows... I only remember "The Price is right" and one that was a word guessing game where Vana White (?) turned the letters ????
Well I hope it is a nice day today... DH going ice fishing again.. last day to fish is March 31, then the season is over... then he will get back to finishing the basement. I need to do some speed cleaning in my house and get ready for the kids tomorrow.
And Men's World curling starts today - Can vs US tonight at 6:30 ET.
Have a great day everyone

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding.
Good Morning Ladies,
Sylvia, I love the masks. I know the kids enjoyed the party.
Pip, I don’t care what all the smart gadgets say, I think you burned more calories fighting a head wind than you did without it. So just be proud of you. I know I am. (*)
Joyce, you must have the smartest ants in town. How do they know those traps will kill them?
Michele NC, the Mystery dinner sounds like such fun. I thought your eating was sounding good, until…until..I got to the 2 pieces of chocolate cake. You didn’t mention how good that tasted? Oh yes, and the chocolate bar. I’ve never made lamb either. Good luck.
Lillian, it sounds like you had a good day, but after a massage, who wouldn’t. Good for you.
Sharon, how wonderful that “he” went to the counseling appointment. At least that’s a start. Just try to think positive even in this less than positive situation. Sometimes it helps. Here’s another: ((Hug))
Gilly, yes it’s wonderful to have long time friends. She and I often only stay in touch through Facebook, but we always know we are there for each other. We moved away from there in 1980 so it’s been a long time, but were neighbors and BFF for years while our kids were born and growing up. It’s still strange to see her children as adults with their own kids. Oh fond memories. I hope you can locate your friend.
Allison, your good night’s sleep is beginning to sound like a pattern? How wonderful!! Keep it up!
Mary, I hope you have fun at the tournament. Hope eating well isn’t a problem.
Heather, remember there is no pressure from us about your book. NOT! I suggest making a list of all the things that need to get done from this point to the final button push. Then you can check off each one as you complete them. This can give you a sense of accomplishment and hopefully not the feeling of dread. I’m sure DH will hold your hand since he’s an old pro at it by now. Hang in there. You've done a great job to get this far so can't give up now. Just think how wonderful it will feel to be finished and published.
Sylvia, so happy that things are moving forward on the apartment for DS. This is a terrific opportunity for him as well as his children.
Lillian, the game show with Vana White is Wheel of Fortune. It is still on every weekday night in the US and very popular. Vana still does the letters but they have it where she only has to touch the square and the letter lights up. You know, high tech. Pat Saycheck(?) is still the host of the show after all these years. Vana is originally from Myrtle Beach, where I live now. (Our claim to fame)
Welcome to any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
I didn’t do any exercise yesterday because I took so much time with planning the cruise. So I have to get my fat butt (but smaller than it was) into gear and do some serious calorie burning. Weight has held steady for about 5 days now and normally it would fluctuate a few pounds from day to day. So that’s a good thing.
Have a wonderful day, ladies. I love you all.

Damnit ok damnit! In my dreams I burned more. I think I need to retire a pair of workout shorts. When I have one of those soaked with sweat workouts, my shorts R starting to fall off Lololol, goodwill for someone who is bigger than I am. I under grew them lololol0

JackeW: Welcome back. Painting is high-level brain work. Our brains and souls are every bit as important as our muscles. Congratulations on exercising your brain & art skills.
Heather: Congratulations on your continued “natural” blondness. My dad made rhubarb wine many years ago. It was horrid, so we just let it sit there. About six years later we tried it and it had transformed into something really nice. You wonder what the skinny couple “sitting” on the couch was actually doing. I do know that muscle burns more calories than fat, just sitting there staying alive. I’m not sure I like any story that ends with the moral “do more housework.” Sitting too much is a problem, and most of us sit in front to the TV or computer by the hour. We need to take a lesson from Barbie who can sit, knit, and watch TV all while riding her exercise bike in the living room. Your comment that you are not a good “finisher” resonates with me. It may be another thing we have in common.
BiggyFuzz: Thanks for the good wishes.
Terri in Milwaukee: I agree with you about kids needing sleep. The coaches schedule practices when they are available, the fields are available, etc, etc. It is a tough puzzle.
Sylvia: I’m keeping my fingers crossed for your son and his children. A bigger apartment would be a blessing for them, and so would lower rent. Love the jokes. Keep them coming! I also love the masks.
Beth: You’d be welcome to send your snow to mountains along the entire west coast and Alaska.
Princessjobe: You won’t be getting my email address. I’m marking your post as possible spam.
Orchidmom: Welcome to a great group! Stop by often.
Mynyddisamrs: You can find your ticker code on your homepage. I copied mine and pasted it onto the word document I use for most of my responses. When I paste the response into the thread, the ticker is shown.
Mary from MN: My daughter had a crush on Davy Jones. I had one on Pierce Brosnan, who was then Remington Steele. My teen crush was on Elvis. Do you remember movie magazines? I think they’re calling them fanzines now.
Janet: I am with you on the coconut oil. I used it as sun lotion decades ago when I visited Hawaii. The smell was off-putting. I agree with you that food shouldn’t be a reward. It leads to all sorts of overeating.
Sharon in Alberta: I’ll keep your situation in my prayers.
Alison: You are one of the busiest people I know. Good luck with the continued remodel.
Lilymay: I think Wheel of Fortune is still on and Vana is still turning the letters. The last time I saw her she looked great, but I don’t actually remember when that was.
I am recuperating from the CO crud, but still have a low-grade headache. I heard from DD and am relieved. She hasn’t been returning my calls and texts. It turns out that she dropped her phone into the potty and it is in the drying out process.
Today DH wants to stay home and putter with his fishing boat. I want to go to a horse show and watch my teacher compete, but it is a LONG way away, and I’m not sure whether I’m up to the drive. I don’t have anything better to do, so I might go for it.

Pip - great NSV when your pants fall off!
Katla - Pierce Bronson was really handsome, wasn't he a 007 in one of the movies?

I went on to the Createspace website and signed up. I read a few instruction pages and some of the discussion boards. Baby steps, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without you ladies. I said I was going to do it, so I did it! :drinker:
Katla - "finisher" is one of the terms used by Gretchen Rubin. Like you I had an "aha" moment!
One or two of you said you were going to cook lamb and you hadn't cooked it before. In Britain it is one of our favourite meats. Very traditional at Easter. Quite by accident we are having lamb and flageolet bean stew tonight, one of our standards. Always delicious and very easy. Cabbage with it.
Bit of a lazy day today. Too much sitting! Actually I don't sit, I always lie down on the sofa. When we book a holiday cottage we have to be sure there are two sofas, one for DH and one for me! ! ! ! I often do my foot and ankle exercises on the sofa plus pelvic floor. I have recently taken to waggling my legs around in order to keep moving!
Heather UK0 -
Pierce Bronson was the handsome actor in the tv show Remington Steele and yes he was one of the 007's. Also love Sean Connery in all his movies.
Not feeling well today. I think Spring allergies are the culprit. Bad tummy and a headache.0 -
Someone asked about the rhubarb vodka. Not exactly slimming, but delicious!
One year we left it too long, because we don't often drink sprits, and all the rhubarb flavour and colour had disappeared, just leaving the vanilla. It was still very nice!
I use a wonderful book called Gifts from the Kitchen, which has all kinds of fabulous recipes. A great book. You stew 600 grams of rhubarb, preferably new and pink, in 250 grams caster sugar along with a vanilla pod, with its seeds scraped into the mixture. Stew until the rhubarb is just starting to soften. Leave to cool and put into a big glass jar with a bottle, 70 cl, of vodka. Seal. Put in fridge. Shake it about every now and then. After a few months decant into pretty bottles through muslin. All my guests have loved it, but I might give some as presents this year. I collect nice little bottles.

Oh... I liked Remington Steele.... and any James Bond movies...
Must go... I logged all my exercise for the day ...and the only thing I have completed is the Cleaning part...going for a walk now and will do my rebounding during the curling...
Not very nice looking outside... no sun, windy and only +4 C.

Hi Everyone, Got through the meeting fine. My colleague was a no show. The team ended up sending a letter. Well last meeting will be in a couple of weeks. I'll be glad when this project is done.
I've gotten through the stress while staying just under my calori count This is quite an accomplishment because I am an emotional eater.
The weeken is often a challenge too. I like to cook as well as eat. DH can eat so much more w/o weight gain. I can keep up but pack on the lbs. I think I need to find another way for us to have companionship w/o using food.
Mynydd we have three cats and they are our children. I am sorry for your loss.
RoriI too enjoy your stories. They bring a smile to my face. I often thought about retiring to S.Cal (Before I was married.) I doubt DH would leave NE.
However since it's snowing again, he might begin to think about it if this abundant snow becomes the norm here. LOL
This afternoon's goals are:
Making bread
Laundry
Excersise

Peachstategal, I'm with you Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery- they are heartthrobs and the accent just seals the deal IMHO
Naiomi2015 congrats on managing stress without resorting to food! Way to Go!
Heather, the rhubarb vodka sounds delish... do you mix it with anything once it is ready or just have it on the rocks?
Janet, I love cruising. I've only been once but can't wait to go again. Have lots of fun.

Good afternoon! We are out at the lake on a BEAUTIFUL spring day. A little cool inside the cabin, but I've opened all the drapes and the sunshine should take care of that pretty quickly.
I spent the morning at the studio doing some drafting and cleaning up a little bit. The kids class that was held in there while I was sick is coming back tomorrow to glaze their stuff and do a Raku firing. I'm also going to let them make one of those clay masks, since the other kids had such fun with them. Honestly, I was disappointed with the things they made before and wanted them to have something tangible to show for this class. I'm afraid the other guy who was teaching the class did not give them good instruction and most of their pieces were way too fragile to survive. I don't intend to let that happen with the masks. Also, he let them run wild, and they were very careless and destructive with some of my tools and brushes, so that is not going to happen tomorrow either. I've hidden all but the bare necessities for the masks. I tend to treasure my tools, and especially my brushes.
A couple of years ago we remodeled the kitchen and guest bath, and opened up a wall to make a great room. At the same time, we replaced all the windows and siding. We also built the shell of a room off our bedroom that would someday become an expanded master bath. Well, today hubby broke through that wall, and opened it up so we can see the new space. It's SO BIG! I'm getting excited! We initially planned to include a freestanding tub, but now that we see it we are reconsidering. Neither of us are bath takers, and we find that if we extend one wall straight back we can triple the size of our closet and still have room for the big walk in shower. What do you think would be better for resale? A bathtub or a huge closet? The closet would also have a nice window. I can picture some built ins under the window surrounded by hanging space. And me with no clothes to hang there! More shopping!
I called my son this morning and told him that hubby said if he needs help with the deposit on the bigger apartment, that we will help him. And he wants us to hire people to help him move. My son broke down in tears, he was so relieved. He didn't know how he was going to manage it, and they all want it so badly. My hubby is one in a million! In spite of all my medical bills, an upcoming trip to Spain, and countless other expenses, he saw that this was so important for those kids and he didn't want them to miss out on it. He said, that is what savings is for.
Well, I'd better start thinking about making dinner. Have a great evening!

Today's joke of the day:
A boy had reached four without giving up the habit of sucking his thumb, though his mother had tried everything from bribery to reasoning to painting it with lemon juice to discourage the habit.
Finally she tried threats, warning her son that, "If you don't stop sucking your thumb, your stomach is going to blow up like a balloon."
Later that day, walking in the park, mother and son saw a pregnant woman sitting on a bench.
The four-year-old considered her gravely for a minute, then spoke to her saying, "Uh-oh ... I know what you've been doing."

Carey - I just keep it in the fridge and have it in a tiny glass. You only need a sip or two. This yesr, as I have made more, I might dilute it with soda water and have it as a longer drink as we don't normally drink a spirit on its own, unless we have guests.

I’m just about 2 months into my effort to change my lifestyle and drop a LOT of weight. My loss has slowed down the last couple weeks, as I have started to lose focus and eat too much – not making time to plan, busy with work and travel, a bit frustrated. I haven’t been on this forum since last weekend, as I was on travel.
A few folks who started about when I did are doing great and have been ongoing inspirations for me – Tanyarn23; Sassy, StrawbC – THANK YOU. ….although everyone has bad days and stretches of days, and everyone’s weight loss seems to be slowing down.
Sadly, I notice some or the folks I “friended” at the beginning are beginning to log less, or even drop out, after working hard at this for many weeks.
I think there are bunch of New Years dieters here who may be hitting a wall and might appreciate some encouragement.
I am going to do this this time around. And I appreciate all the companionship and tips from this board.

Sylvia - we were told that if you don't have a bath tub in your bathroom it's only considered a 3/4 bath when you go to sell. But that might be only here in Minnesota.
Cindy in S D - there are a lot of people that have been here for a long time. I feel that I get a lot of support from the ladies on this thread. You do need to check in often or you will have to play catch up! We are so chatty Also the closed you get to goal the smaller you are the less calories you need and the less weight you lose. I hope you check in often!

evening ladies~
been a busy busy day... it is still blessed snowing here in Connecticut, when is it ever going to stop!!!
started off early this morning with a load or 2 of laundry, then went to see DFIL he has been wonderful about eating...so got him fed, and off to lowes we went, took the sink and drain back and looked at cabinet and solid surface countertops..
came home and the DH worked on the bathroom backsplash and has that all set.. he took a shower and off we went again..this time to home depot, we bought a mini pendant light there a few weeks ago that was on clearance that they had hanging there, well when I opened the box with the new one in it, the clearance one didnt come with a mounting bracket.. soooo I went in there and they will see if what they can do to rectify the situation..
DH went up to Verizon to get a new phone, and they gave home otter box, wireless charger etc.. free, well I weaseled a new phone too so we both have the same kind, different cases, and they threw in a 7 inch tablet for 21.00 , we just had to pay the Ct. taxes on the phones.. DH says I am a spoiled B, well I dont think so.. I do alot fo work around here and cook, and laundry and errands and ordering .. so what the heck I think I deserve it... then we went to 99 restaurant that is a favorite of ours, and we both had chicken parmesan, but only ate 1/2, just sitting and having a cup of tea now0 -
I don't get it. He gets a new phone and that's fine. You get a new phone and you're a spoiled B?!0

Page 43- I love the weekends when there are not as many posts… I can catch up (I hope!) opps looked at the time… read just one page…
Sylvia – I think kids parties with a smaller number of kids is best, they actually enjoy each other! Glad it went well.
Michele – I remember looking for the small party rye a few years ago with no success ended up cutting (with a cookie cutter) the size I wanted from regular rye bread… pain in the butt.
Sharon – thinking of you, we learn from every experience, the good bad and ugly, so don’t feel like you have wasted the time – but that you took your time learning about relationships and your needs… you’ll go forward stronger.
Naiomi – hope your meeting went well (it is long over by the time I am reading this) and that it went well, saving some calories is a good idea.
Margaret – Chichuly glass is amazing! I have seen a few exhibits of it, and it’s beautiful, the pictures you posted reminded me of his items.
Heather - Glad you are taking care of the medical things…. Not fun, but important.
March goals:
Walk every day
Log all bites everyday
Eat slower
Plan and do a fun thing every week

Pip: NSV = Non Scale Victory, and includes all sorts of things that we do because we have to do them. Tax preparation would be a huge one. They can also be any accomplishment that you’re happy about. Mine were usually smaller clothes sizes when I was losing. Now they’re often physical accomplishments I didn’t think I could do.
Sylvia: Your DH is a prize. I am happy for you and your son that he is the sort of man who understands the important things.
Cindy: Earlier today I read a comment to the effect that we don’t need “friends.” This board does the job quite well. The people who I friended early on dropped out rather quickly and this board has been my mainstay. That said, I do have a few MFP friends that I am delighted to stay in touch with. One or two of them occasionally post here.
Alison: I don’t know why your DH is a constant criticizer. I found an article on the net that suggested that people criticize others do it in order to feel worthy and successful. My mother was one of those people who made critical comments all of the time. She had very low self-esteem and was raised by an abusive parent. I don’t think her criticism ever made her feel a bit better and I know it wasn’t good for me. I know she loved me, and I think she was doing the best she could. Maybe your DH is doing the best he can. I know for sure that he is lucky to have you.
I did some gardening today! I planted snow peas. My next item will be getting a tomato plant, but it may still be a little early for that. Aside from peas, a tomato, and a fall green bean crop, I have herbs in pots. I could sign up for a plot in the community garden, but I’m not motivated enough to do it. I’m happy with my tiny amount of puttering.

Chiming in on Sylvia's shower question. I love my soaker tub, but as long as there is one somewhere in the house, I would personally rather have a bigger closet and just a shower. Especially if it is a shower big enough to shave your legs in. Our master bath has a garden tub with separate shower and our shower is tiny. I love it for grabbing a quick shower, but always use the tub when shaving. I think Mary is correct, though, in saying it is only considered 3/4 with shower only. I noticed on HGTV that they refer to the bathrooms as pieces: a 2-piece is toilet and vanity, a toilet, vanity and shower would be 3-piece, etc.0

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding.
Good Evening Ladies,
Pip, don’t you love under growing your clothes!!!
Katla, the horse show sounds like fun. Do you have a friend that might go with you?
Heather, I have also been known to “waggle my legs around to keep moving". See, we aren’t that different after all. Good for you on checking out the website. I’m proud of you and now you are one step closer. (*)
Peachstategal, hope you feel better soon. Allergies are giving me fits, for sure.
Naoimi, great that you stayed under calories while stressing. Maybe it’s because you were also stressing about what you were eating? Hang in there, you can do this. And yes, find a new entertainment that you and DH can do together.
Pip, NSV=non scale victory. I had to ask a couple of months ago.
Sylvia, when we built our house we had the option of a tub and separate shower or a larger shower and a linen closet. I opted for the large shower and linen closet. I love having a real closet in the master bath and so few people take time for a bath. As long as there is a bath tub elsewhere in the house, I don’t think it hurts resale. That’s great that your hubby is willing to help DS with the deposit. I’m surprised he has to pay another deposit if it’s in the same complex. Love the joke!!! You get such good ones. Thanks.
Cindy, the weight loss does slow down for many of us. The trick to this is to begin with a Lifelong commitment and to Never, Ever, Never Give Up. If I had kept losing at the pace of my first 2 ½ months, I’d be at my goal weight soon. As it is, I have a long way to go, but no matter how slow, I know I will get there. And when I do, I plan to keep logging and watching what I eat so I will stay there. You hang in there, you are worth it.
Allison, good buy on the phones. Wow, only the tax. And of course you deserve it!! Way to go.
I don’t disagree with you ladies that say a bathroom with only a shower is called a ¾ bath. But think about it, if you bath has a separate tub and shower, why don’t they call it a 1 ¼ bath? Just saying. If I had not opted for the shower only, not only would I have given up the linen closet, but the shower would have been tiny. The one I got takes the place where the tub would have gone and it has a seat on each end, so wonderful for shaving legs.
I went shopping again today because my favorite store was having a big sale. I really wanted to hold off on buying more clothes until I lost a little more weight, but the cruise has changed that. My old clothes are getting really big and sloppy with very few things that were too tight that I can still wear. I did get a really cute pair of crop pants that will go with lots of things and a shell and matching zipper top with long sleeves. It might be nice for the cruise if we get some cooler weather. At least this is just a 5 day cruise so I won’t need as much as the one in February next year. I got all my exercise done today but it was amazing how difficult it was after missing a day. I had to make myself do it all. Whew Between exercise and shopping, I'm one tired puppy. I may go to bed early tonight.
Have a healthy and happy night and day, ladies.

Hi friends-
I had internet issues yesterday and got 141 posts behind. I'm caught up through pg 45. Will finish reading about you all tomorrow.
I had a fun time on Thurs. at a surprise baby shower luncheon for a girl I used to teach with. She is having a girl and it was so much fun to see all the cute things she received. I think we caused a commotion with all the "ooohs and awes" as she opened the gifts.
We have a big staff meeting at the Y on Monday. I hope we are not going to be told we are closing. I need a pool for my workouts and it will mean a lot of driving to get to another Y. We have a small Y in a church within walking distance from our home but it doesn't have a pool. I guess I shouldn't be pessimistic but we hear this rumor every so often because our facility is small, old, and doesn't bring in much money because we have a lot of low income members.
Have a great night
