Isn't the iron in cereal added, not naturally there? If that's the case, I'd just eat what I liked and take a supplement.

OP has posted here a few times before. She is an extremely picky eater (almost like a toddler), and she has an irrational fear of swallowing a pill, she won't eat Flinstone's vitamins, and she usually refutes helpful suggestions saying that they won't work for her.

I'm not personally attacking OP, as I'm sure she's an overall nice person, but that is how her threads usually pan out.

So, basically, she wants us to tell her how to magically increase the iron in the only food she likes.. Sorry, but that's not possible. I'm not a wizard. Sometimes people have to do things they don't like. I have to go to work and pretend to be a people person every single day. I'd much rather just take an iron pill.

Basically, yes! Or eat a good, bloody steak.

OP, I reccomend adding fresh fruit (Strawberries, Blueberries, Bananas ect) to your Cheerios! Just a small amount can make your cereal sweeter. However, if you continue to dislike them, I'd search for some Iron rich foods you like more! (Spinach, Seafood, Beans, Peas). You can also try increasing your Iron absorption by adding more Vitamin C to your diet.

Almond milk is delicious and low in calories. I use it with cornflakes and it gives me a hint of sweetness and is amazing.

I'd look for new ways to consume more iron so that you can enjoy foods you love! Iron in supplements is a great idea. Also, perhaps you can consume lots of other iron rich foods at other times of the day and your snack doesn't need to suffer. Just because you are increasing your iron intake doesn't mean that EVERY meal/snack must be super high in iron. Just increase overall throughout the day. I'd check me (since I'm not tracking iron), but I think most leafy green veggies have a good amount of iron. Perhaps you can make a salad to go along with your dinner or a green smoothie for breakfast. I enjoy a green smoothie that has berries, spinach, ginger, almond milk, and perhaps a little mint leaves.

Yeah, I took the humongous ones when I was pregnant. Not super fun, but I'm also not 3 years old, so I did what I had to do.

Four pages and no one has corrected the misconception that Frosted Mini Wheats need fruit and milk to be good? They are fantastic straight out of the box. They used to be one of my favorite snacks before celiac disease came between us.

    Oh, I miss them.

if this is truly about getting more iron, iron-fortified cereals is a poor way to do it. The iron added is in supplement form, not food-based, which is ideal for your body and much better to assimilate. eat raisins, pumpkin seeds and a steak. I too, have trouble with iron so I know a thing or two. Also, a kelp supplement.

Omg, I ate some blueberry ones this morning. SO GOOD and 55 g had 90% of my iron intake for the day. I had 80 g of them, but probably could've eaten the whole box.

I'd just take iron tablets if your iron is that low. :)

Wait wait, I have an idea, grind the iron pills into a powder and sprinkle it on the cheerios. Your eyes will make your brain think the powder is sugar.

but it wont TASTE better! PLZ PAY ATTENTION!

How do you know? Have you done it? What kind of support is this forum.

    you know what, you're right.
i apologize for being a bully.

OP, i think MrM is onto something here!

let us know how it goes!

The bitter, chalky texture can be quite pleasant.

*Edited to add: I just imagined accidentally inhaling some as you took a bite. Brought back a traumatic memory of when I did this with a Goody's powder. Dear God. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Why would I try it? I'm not lacking iron. I eat a T-Bone steak every day for breakfast. And I eat cheerios. T-Bone steak coated in Cheerios. That's how I make my plain Cheerios taste better.

oh i'm sorry (again....i must be canadian), that was directed at OP.
i want to know how delicious the iron powder makes her plain cheerios.
    great suggestion!

Am I the only one who thinks Cheerio's are amazing just the way they are?

Nope. I love plain old "boring" original Cheerios. LOL.

I assume you want to eat the regular ones because they are healthier than the honey nut ones... If you add sugar and honey they become a pretty decent chunk of calories compared to the other varieties. Just eat the honey nut ones.

No I want to eat the regular ones cause they have twice as much iron as the honey nut and my iron is really low. I saw a nutritionist and she wants me to eat more iron rich foods and Cheerios was on the list she gave me.

Maybe eat some of the other things on the list...?

I mentioned this too and no one responded to it. I dont' think anyone else has recommended this either :/

In a different thread the post has said she doesn't like to swallow pills and doesn't care for the taste of her Flinstone's Chewables.

I really enjoyed my iron pills.

OP, what else is on the list your nutritionist gave you? Are Cheerios the only thing you'll eat?
