I know right..worked with a lady once-t (lol) and she butchered most every word that she said..example- she would say "pacifically"..talk about cringe...wtf..are we talking about an ocean?0 -

"Passed away" usually sounds like "past away" because the "e" in "passed" is silent. Unless one puts extra emphasis on the 2nd syllable, which would be incorrect, it is not easy to distinguish between "passed" and "past." It is just as likely that you are not hearing correctly.0 -

I understand now. Many uneducated people will write / type as things sound. This is also why people don't know the differences between "your" and "you're."0 -
