went and saw a specialist and that was easily one of the best adjustments/tips he gave me. Get under the bar- keep feet in close- step back- step back- and THEN adjust.
It's made a huge difference- and I'm significantly more consistent with my lifts and significantly more consistent with my set up.
Feet in close on the set-up? I'll give it a shot.

I did squat again today and I got back to minimizing my walkout steps (2), but honestly, I think there is too much of a big deal made of more than two steps. Then again, the weight I'm currently lifting at isn't all that much yet.

Tonight was an awesome training night. Unlike those days when gravity feels like it's been turned up and things feel unaccountably heavy, tonight was the opposite. My hip was feeling decent. Deadlift felt great.

Am impressed with form and weight. Great job!
But I'm absolutely amazed you can deal with a fixed pin bench press. Gawd, I hate those with the fixed pins.

    Squat - nope
    Bench - nothing
Deadz - not one in sight
    Snatch - can't see one
    CJ - zip

    Why was this even……………..

In the northwoods this week and I had to find a gym.

405 lbs, 485, 510 fail, 495x1. Managed to get my training in. Exhausted, underfed, and not enough sleep. Didn't hit my programmed numbers.

Thanks @Willbenchforcupcakes ! Trying to work my way up to heavier sets after going through the whole 20 rep thing. Nice to see you're back from injury and hitting PRs again.

Somehow I managed to get an invite to compete in Relentless. It's an invite only meet that raises a lot of money for HopeKids (you may have seen that viral clip of the lady in the Elsa costume pulling 405 in front of a bunch of happy kids -- THAT was at Relentless).

Anyway I was just offered the chance about 2 weeks ago and so I can't really properly peak but I'm still going to try.

Chatted a bit with Lawrence Judd and Greg Nuckols about peaking and I'm going to make a short run at daily max training. Basically working up to a 1RM at about RPE 9.5 and then doing a few back off triples at 85-90% of the daily 1RM value. I'll be doing this 3-4 days/week for a really short period of time (it will end up being about 1.5 to 2 weeks of it) followed by a taper.

I'm really happy with today's squat. This is a single at 445. My 1RM (competition) is 451 but there's a few things to note:

    1) My 451 Squat was around BW 191-193 if I recall correctly (I'll have to go look it up). Right now I'm around 185-186. Doesn't sound like much but it matters as I'll be attempting to drop a weight class for Relentless (and if I don't make it, it's no big deal but I'll definitely be able to drop for the next meet in October).

    2) This was slow but in the past when bar speed starts to crawl on me I get wobbly and it gets ugly. This (IMO) still looks quite steady/solid from a technical standpoint. It's just really slow.

    3) This wasn't after a taper/deload (I'm not peaked).

So anyway, I'm really pleased with this.

@McCloud33 - it's been a long road for sure! I actually got clearance to reload medically back in mid November, but with commonwealth having been right around the corner, it made zero sense to reload then. Then nationals were a bench only thing, and I was trying for a position on the national team, so it made zero sense to reload. This is week four of the reloading, with a full power meet at the end of July to look forward to.

I got my second red plate back in deads today! 125/275 coming up easy. I'm actually loving this new stance and it's working so I'm going to stick with it.

And just because my coach can be evil - one stop squats after, hit 92.5kg/203.5lb for 8.

Got 330x3...barely. Last one was a real grind.

Then I attempted 365...utter failure

That's awesome @SideSteel ...you going to lift dressed as Elsa as well ;) All kidding aside, good luck!

@Willbenchforcupcakes , is there a reason you have the squat supports so low? If you actually couldn't make the lift, you'd have to drop it a good foot it looks like...just an random observations...solid lifts though.

@McCloud33 - one of the coaches is pretty much right there. If I were to get stuck in the hole he would rescue me, but I do better without people right around me. As for the safeties - they are actually bench safeties, not meant to save you at the bottom of a squat. I was just too lazy to move them out of the way.

So as mentioned I'm doing a very short phase of modified daily 1rm training. It's actually 3-4/week frequency working up to a 1rm ideally at RPE 9.5 or so. Today I went to a 10.

Small PR, this is a new 1RM at 455lbs:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGr6uCvV35Y&feature=youtu.be

Really happy with this, though. During ramp ups I went from 355 to 390 (belted at this rep) and 390 FLEW. Fastest I've ever hit a rep at that weight range. So I was eyeballing a PR. Jumped to 425 which was a big error and I should know better. I can't make a 35lb jump at that high of an intensity. And so 425 went really slow. I also executed poorly (didn't tighten dem gloots before descending).

So I went back down to 415 and went 415, 425, 435, 455 for singles.

I was totally fried after, couldn't do any back off sets. Bench and deads also suck right now but squats are coming along, so meh.

I don't care what the 1RM calculators say...This is my 2RM. I swear the second rep push lasted 30 seconds in my head and it may have been the closest to blacking out that I've ever been. 345x2

@McCloud33 -- I'm just curious about something -- You seemed to transition very fast from 20 rep squats to 1-3rep work. Was this part of a program you were on?

@SideSteel The 20 rep was just a 6 week program. I started 5/3/1 back up this week, but wanted to stick with the three day a week squat, so I was trying out doing the 5/3/1 all in one week for squat. My 1RM before the program was maybe a little north of 275+/-, but that was also at 180-182 BW. I plugged in a 1RM of 405 to start this round of 5/3/1, but I think I'm going to back that off to 365 as that seems a little more accurate after this week. I'm also back on a calorie deficit after bulking for the last 6+ weeks.

All that and I was just curious what my 1RM really was after doing the 20 rep program so I wanted to try and hit some triples, doubles and singles.

    Cool, thanks =)

I was just curious by the very large change in volume. Going from 20 to 1-3 is a pretty abrupt drop =)

Hope you report back and tell us all about your experience.
