Must be all those burgers she had to eat...

Wish I looked that good eating a burger :embarassed:

I was reading further and I guess that comment really affected her. What a shame the industry is cruel. She evidently got some trainer and only eats fish, chicken and vegetables now. My poor Katie!

    Seriously? I was hoping she was one of those celebrities that would just give everyone the finger and eat a burger happily. ;_;

I think she's gorgeous and confident. If the industry thinks she's good enough as is, she's good enough as is. I mean, she's getting paid to strut her stuff.

She's not fat, but I do find her weight average and that's not good enough for a model.

We need more average models. These really thin, airbrushed ones we have are the reason why so many girls have eating disorders.

What do we need average models for? We have average people everywhere. Models are supposed to represent a FANTASY. We can't handle the fact that we aren't perfect so we have to make art that's mediocre? C'mon.

    Modeling is art now?

News flash-- most models aren't meant to be healthy or attractive, they're meant to be clothes hangers in pretty much every sense.

This. The "art" is really in the HOURS of editing that goes into these images. Photo editors are the artists...Not the bodies of these starving girls.

Whoever called her fat is stupid and to all of you hating because she isn't rail thin like every other model have issues. Young girls struggle with body image enough without us forcing size 0, 90 pound women in their face and saying "Hey, you should be this thin if you want to be beautiful" It is women like Kate Upton, Jennifer Lawrence and Christina Hendricks that make celebrities look good. The women that promote healthy lifestyles without starving yourself to be someone elses fantasy. If people want fantasy find a playboy, hustler or watch porn. Models are supposed to represent beauty and Kate Upton is doing her job, she is beautiful.

I wish I was as "fat" as she is :ohwell:

Models are not art. Photography and fashion design are art. Models bodies are props that are used in a careful composition. Deal with it. If I'm trying to create a specific image, I'm not going to sacrifice that image by using a model that doesn't fit just because I don't want to hurt someone's feelings. Peoples' feelings are irrelevant in aesthetics. If Kate Upton is useful as a model it's because some fraction of the population is comforted by seeing the image of a fatter woman. That's fine. It's also pandering.

Wow...these are the messages that get sent to young girls, that average isn't good enough. Models should be a reflection of real women, in all shapes sizes and colors. Girls need to to see someone more like themselves sometimes rather than be bombarded with images of rail-thin unhealthy-looking stick figures.

Well models should also represent health while they're at it. Nothing wrong with fantasy models, just not enough average ones out there. Everywhere you turn you see size 0 models. No wonder girls who are Kate's size think they're fat..

It is REALLY a shame, but if you think about it, her livelihood is based on her being super skinny. Gotta do what you gotta do unfortunately.

Seriously? Surely being a model is about looking good. Some catwalk models I've seen pics of are quite ugly and /or plain looking, they just happen to be tall and skinny.

yeah, it's complete BS! i read awhile ago, or watched her on a show...i think it was the latter of the 2...and she was saying how she is considered "plus sized" in the modeling world......i REALLY wish that the industry would get with REAL life! plus sized is not a size 6! i don't even think it's a size 12-16..........IT'S CALLED HEALTHY! i would KILL to have a body like hers! it is BEAUTIFUL! it's NOT FAT!

That bikini is not flattering to her body type, but it's nothing to do with size. She doesn't exactly have a muffin top!

You can't always tell what clothes will look like on when they're on the hanger so I'd rather see a real woman wearing them

I think its up to us, as parents to teach our daughters what healthy looks like. Not the fashion industry. My daughter is aware that a size 0 doesn't always mean unhealthy. Neither does a size 12. I prefer to be my daughters role model.

I totally agree. We need more average models like we need more average intelligence doctors and physicists. All those smarty pants types giving people of average intelligence low self esteem. It's just not fair.

Exactly. As such, what you're saying about mediocre art makes absolutely no sense.

Art in photography has less to do with the subject than it does to do with the composition, the lighting, the concept, the color. Capturing a moment. You can photograph anyone or anything and make tremendous art. A model who isn't below healthy weight by most doctors' standards doesn't make mediocre art-- a failing photographer does.

And clothing designers have plenty of choices in models to wear their clothes. Certainly their art isn't suffering because this woman isn't starving herself. Runway models and cover models are entirely different things.

To pretend that somehow, this woman's size is having a detrimental effect on art is at best laughable and at worst creating some really dangerous ideas about weight/health/beauty/etc.

I've seen plenty of photographs and fashion designs that use women who don't fit your "fantasy" ideal of what a woman should look like. If an artist wants to use a stick thin girl, fine. It's their artistic choice. The problem is that it's an industry and the decision to include women who are much thinner than a healthy body weight and are airbrushed like hell is not because of artistic preference.

We are sold the impossible as an ideal for a reason. It makes one hell of a profit. That's really all there is to it. The more unhappy we are with our bodies, the more money the dieting and media industry makes.

Also, who cares if some people called Kate Upton "fat". One person's fat is another person's thin. It's all a matter of perspective. And discussing it doesn't help. It just gives people another reason to pick apart and critique the body of a...what...19? year old girl.

In the unrealistic world of Kate Moss-esque models, ie: bony, unhealthy, and possibly drug addicted, yes she's considered "fat". But in all reality she probably weighs 125lbs and just enjoys life. I bet she's a lot more fun to be around than other models too!!

Average is good for every day life, but you can't force designers to put their art on people that won't flatter it and show it off on the catwalk.

    Porn is about fantasy.

Models are part of the advertising industry. There's an artistic component, but it should be based in reality, not fantasy.

Fashion models are, or rather should be, about how a certain product will look on the customer. I don't want a mascara ad that shows me fantasy lashes. I want to see that actual product on an actual woman. I don't want to see clothes on someone who's 5 inches taller and 20 pounds lighter than the average woman, I want to see it on someone like me.
