I think people need to stop worshipping models/celebrities. Its one thing to want "that kind of body" (which btw, Kate is extremely attractive body I think) but another to be so obsessed that you cannot stand anyone criticising them. If they're in public eye, people with critisize. Just for the sake of stirring things up. And guess what, that kind of negative publicity is actually GOOD for them since when people argue, more people tend to know their name (I'm sure there are a few in this thread who didn't knew her, at least by name but they do now).

So, stop obsessing over the celebrities and their lives and carry on.

Well models should also represent health while they're at it. Nothing wrong with fantasy models, just not enough average ones out there. Everywhere you turn you see size 0 models. No wonder girls who are Kate's size think they're fat..

Models are not making a public service announcement. They are selling ****.

You seem to have a rather shocking lack of understanding of how the media influences individuals. Wow. Just oh wow!

The media influences individuals who can't wrap their heads around that fact that it's a fantasy. That's my whole point. Let the fantasy be the fantasy that it is. Don't conflate it with reality and get all bent out of shape because the two don't measure up. They aren't supposed to. That's why it sells. You're the one who doesn't seem to understand.

She was initially a swimsuit model, which is an entirely different body type than a fashion model. If designers didn't want to put their clothes on her, then they wouldn't do it-- but she was sought after. It's not up to her to conform to the ideal of an industry that came to her.

I'm sure no one would be sad about her sticking to swimsuits.

When I saw her on the cover of sports illustrated, I was like, "Wow; they put a plus size model on the cover. That's progressive." She's not "fat" for a person walking on the street, but she certainly has at least 2 times the body fat of a standard model. Why does she get paid for that? I think models should have to work for it... Their job is to look good... That's all they have to do. And she doesn't bother to work out? That's just lazy.

But she does look good...

I didnt know you had to be RAIL THIN with hollow legs in order to be models. This is pure BS if you ask me. Kate looks great, and yes she is average but why are you hatin' on that? Uh, really. I do everything in my power to teach my daughter that those models and celebrities are not who she should want to be. She should want what is best for her health.... but I would MUCH RATHER my daughter see KATE as a model which shows her hey its okay to be 'normal' than my daughter use hollow legged models as her role models for body image.

    go kate! we love you.

She's not fat, but I do find her weight average and that's not good enough for a model.

We need more average models. These really thin, airbrushed ones we have are the reason why so many girls have eating disorders.

What do we need average models for? We have average people everywhere. Models are supposed to represent a FANTASY. We can't handle the fact that we aren't perfect so we have to make art that's mediocre? C'mon.

I totally agree. We need more average models like we need more average intelligence doctors and physicists. All those smarty pants types giving people of average intelligence low self esteem. It's just not fair.

Your sarcasm is assuming these models are healthy...That isn't always the case.

She's fatter than most famous models, that's not up for debate, it's fact.

But fact is not the same as fat.

Is she fat compared to the average woman her height? No. Do the people over at the BMI say she's overweight? No. Is she bigger than most women her height in her profession? Absolutely. Kate Upton was born with symmetrical features, tall, and lucked into an attractive face. None of that took hard work on her part. She doesn't seem to spend hours each day in the gym or struggle with the hard self-discipline it takes to eat very little. She works in front of a camera but does not have to memorize lines or display any discernible acting talent.

She does have to breathe, so that's something.

I'm about half her size and I'm disgusting to look at. If someone has decided to call her fat then so be it. She looks great whatever the label.

That bikini is not flattering to her body type, but it's nothing to do with size. She doesn't exactly have a muffin top!

She looks better here than in other pictures I have seen of her.

And on another note, I am thrilled men find her attractive because my body is somewhat similar, except I am sadly missing a butt.

She isn't fat but she isn't thin like most models and on occasion I have thought she could lose an inch around her middle/hip area to be honest. That said, she looks freaking fantastic.

I totally agree with this. She's a bit too giggly from time to time, but very sexy with a great mug for sure.

I don't get what the hype is with her, but whatever. She is a model so she will be judged by a lot of people. Most people like her because of her "assets".

I think its up to us, as parents to teach our daughters what healthy looks like. Not the fashion industry. My daughter is aware that a size 0 doesn't always mean unhealthy. Neither does a size 12. I prefer to be my daughters role model.

That's fantastic. Not every girl has that luxury.

And for Robin, of course they sell **** and it's really not up to them to be positive, healthy rolemodels. What I am saying is it wouldn't be a bad idea for them to start, because some girls who don't know any better truely think size 6 is fat, no matter what their mama says. Noone said lets get rid of size 0s, but we do need more models like Kate.

Wow! I don't know where you're from, but I see nothing average about Kate Upton. That's why she was on Sports Illustrated...etc. She's not average. She's definitely not the typical thin-as-a-rail model, but she's looks nothing like any woman that I've ever lived next door to, or ran into at the grocery store.

I understand your reasoning. She doesn't bother to work out? Damn. She is on the receiving end of some pretty awesome genetics!!
