People holding open doors for you is either a very nice gesture or a very annoying gesture depending upon how far away you are from the door.

The phrase "don't you dare" sounds normal but if we say "do not you dare" it sounds weird.

I never know what to expect when someone starts a sentence with "I was thinking about you this morning..."

I work in NYC and during the course of my commute each day, I see literally thousands of people. I like to compliment people on anything about them that pops out to me. Generally the things that pop out to me are things that some people might find odd: on-traditional hair colors or styles, loud or flashy outfits, stylish shoes. I like the way peoples' faces light up. When someone compliments my silly bright orange pants or madras blazer or seersucker suit, it makes my day a little lighter, so I do it too. I hope those random compliments do as much for them as they do for me.

It’s hard to imagine that men actually fought duels over their honor and arguments, even ridiculous ones.

    It's very believable

Oh I believe it, I just find it difficult to imagine men standing facing each other and shooting over some stupid affront to their egos.
