ohhhh my dinner was divine! I made up some campanelle pasta, its fun and curly to hold flavors. I boiled 1/4 cup of them so not very many, but they are kind of big. Saute'ed in 1 tsp olive oil some zucchini cubed (one small one) with pepper, cayenne pepper, pinch of salt. Then added in the small saute pan some water and 1 tsp of better than bouillon chicken paste, and laid 4 oz of tilapia fillet on the top of the cubed zucchini until it was firm. Put the done pasta in my ramen bowl and poured the panful of tilapia and zucchini soup mixture over the top, and sprinkled it with 1/4 cup walnuts. Yummy!!
Becca that makes your mouth water (unless you hate fish, and zucchini)

Lenora, no offense taken. I just like talking about my brother because I am proud of him.
All you guys talking about your cooking reminded me about Charlie and his latest venture. He got this hair brained idea that he was going to fix pancakes and make like a strawberry roll up. And he means lots of strawberries. We were at Walmart yesterday and he picked up a large jar of preserves. I reminded him that we had an unopened one at home in the pantry. He said that with as much preserves as he was going to put on his pancakes we would need another jar real soon. I have told him that neither one of us has made pancakes in a long time, I had given away our griddle and it takes the oil and heat just right. To that he said they are just pancakes, what can go wrong. Well he tried to make them tonight so that he could put them in the fridge and reheat them in the morning. I first found out he was making them from the smell in the house. He brought me a plate with his 1st 2 attempts on it and made me taste it. I took a teeny tiny bite and they were so salty! He was using salted butter as his oil. So he has two that he is satisfied with in the fridge. I have no idea what they look like. My appointment with the oral surgeon is at 10:15 so I don't know if I will see his concoction or not. I guess I will see the results of how much preserves is out of the jar.
He is doing better. He has now gone out for 2 different outings without taking an extra diaper with him and not even soiled what he has on. So that is a big change. His night times are the worst but his eating habits from supper time on are horrendous. I have no idea if it's the Prednisone or if the infusions are finally helping. Appointment for him is Monday morning.

Morning all, I handled my stressful work day yesterday followed by a lunch with work folks, not my favorite thing to do I made a wise choice for lunch, salmon over Arugula salad while those around me had pasta and burgers, felt healthy even when the deserts came, italian desserts I didn't order but had a spoonful or two of something called Tartuffo, it was an icecream dessert, and I showed restraint..... Funny I always have restraint in front of people I am not close friends with, but then on the drive home or when I get home I go nuts with the overeating....not this time!! Hooray I think the boots are working , my out of control emotional stressful eating binge is over! (insert kick line of dancing emojis riding horses while whistling dixie here)
Also, got the crown finally replaced at the dds, all is calm and happy at home with dh and dd, they are used to this season being too busy for me to do much with them and they seem to team up which always makes me happy.
Great to check in with you all, won't have much time to write in the next week, but know that I love keeping up with you all!

Sue in WA wrote: I have been doing really well with not eating after dinner since I have a new med that needs to be taken on an empty stomach before bed but now I have found myself eating less than healthy stuff midafternoon. Need to preplan I think and have something ready to grab so I am not looking around for something.
I'm still taking it easy with the jogging and weight lifting, as I don't want to jeopardize my participation in the Spitsbergen half-marathon on June 4. Especially not now that my daughter has signed up to run it! She hasn't been up here before. About time!
But I need exercise, so yesterday I went out for a nice long walk in the bright bright evening. Many of you seem to enjoy the scenery, so here are some more pictures.
First a view south toward the mountain named Sarkofagen (The Sarcophagus) also known as Kistefjell (Coffin Mountain) and I think you can see why. The lids of old style Norwegian coffins had precisely that angle.
I continued to the far end of town then doubled back on the other side of the valley. There I was delighted to hear that the little auks are back for the summer. I heard them before I saw them, swarms of black specks wheeling high up in the craggy cliffs on the east side. Along with the piercing cries of arctic terns, the cheerful laughing sound little auks make has become the essence of summer for me.
Down near the church, I spotted a reindeer and took another picture. Again you see Sarkofagen in the background. The things you see sticking out of the ground everywhere are not old tree stumps. We don't have trees that big here! They're pilings from the buildings in old Longyearbyen - all that remains of them after German forces burned the town toward the end of WWII. The reindeer are all growing new antlers now. There are probably lots old ones lying around in the snow.
Have a good day everyone!

Love the photos, Penny! But it made me want to go warm my hands over a fire... Oh, that's right, it will be over 90 degrees today. However, we're headed for Dallas, where it's s'posed to be raining. Should be dry Saturday and Sunday for loading and such, and then will run into rain on the way back. If the Weather Channel is right. Which they only are when it's kinda awful.
Sorry, still very Eeyore-ish this morning, as I'm only on my first cup of coffee... the second cup of coffee makes me Pooh (horrible pun, sorry!), and the third shifts me into Tigger mode.

Up at 3:15 AGAIN this morning. Killing time waiting for the hubby to get up. Kind of in a spot where I can't do much--if I was here by myself and could get filthy, I could at least be refinishing furniture. But don't want to start a ten-hour drive covered with sander dust, stain and tung oil, as there's still no way to clean up except a tiny sink and a washcloth. Have become a princess in my old age.
Insomnia kinda sucks. But it sure makes those rare 7-8 hour nights of sleep just amazing. I look forward to another of those someday. Hey, just got my first sip of second cup of coffee.
Gotta go!
Love y'all,

Penny - I am reading all about the wildlife in Svalbard on the Internet link you sent me. I have done about six so far. It looks as if the Puffin is difficult to see, but I would really love to. Snow seems to be melting in your pics.
Kim - Really meant to comment on your post about your nephew, but somehow forgot. He must be a great joy for you. I'm sure he appreciates you very much. Strange how kids with difficult backgrounds can sometimes turn out so well!
DH off to get some shopping. We have a bank (public) holiday on Monday and he will be at cricket with the car for four days, so we need some supplies, fresh veg etc.
My lavatory is malfunctioning again, despite DH 's ministrations. We thought it was solved last night, but no such luck. Looks like an expensive plumber is called for! DH is going to give it one more try.
Eating going quite well at the moment. I'm trying to eat a bit under my exercise calories in an effort to shift my pesky pound. Tonight is spicy duck leg with cabbage. Stewed fruit with yogurt.

Heather - this one's for you:
You're right. Puffins are hard to spot, especially from ships. This shot was taken at a colony not far from Longyearbyen (at Diabasodden if you want to look it up on toposvalbard.no), from higher up on a cliff where they breed. Getting there was a major adventure involving survival suits, Zodiacs, rifles and several muscular PhD students.
Your DH is interested in birds. Does he have a good pair of binoculars? If so, bring them! The best place I've ever found for puffins was a low grassy hillside in Iceland, where they let us get right up close. (Time to make Iceland your next destination after Svalbard and Yucatan?)

I usually read mostly nonfiction, but scored some Kellerman books at the used books sale at the library this week. As I read them, I made an observation and I wondered if anyone else had this same problem. When I am reading, every time the people in the book are eating a meal, I find an intense urge to get a snack. As I think back, I realize that I did the same thing when I read Patricia Cornwall books. Both describe what the protagonist is eating in detail. Does anyone else have this problem? I know there has been a link shown with TV viewing of food and snacking behavior...0

Good Morning, I am up early and have walked the dogs once, given the pets their breakfast, and have a few extra minutes to lounge at the computer while eating my breakfast.
The month is nearly over and tomorrow I'll be composing a welcome for the new thread for May. This is a good time to reflect on the goals and resolutions you've set for April and consider what your plans will be for May. I know that many of you keep the same goals and resolutions each month and others change them. I don't list them any more, but I continue with resolving to drink 9 glasses of water, walk at least 10,000 steps, log food and exercise daily, and eat only at the times I've assigned for eating. These are the ones that I've kept for years. I add newer ones that are not yet automatic and charge myself with completing a difficult task that I've put off for too long.

Resolutions for April (with end of the month comments)
*weight training twice a week or more (three times a week until this last week)
*10,000 steps a day (13,000 or more each day)
*continue organizing CD's (work is continuing)
*meditation four days a week or more (yes--almost every day)
*make a plan and prepare the ground for planting bulbs in the fall (plan made but no work done)

Lisa- Your pun and your last sentence and sign off on your post had me giggling this morning! First sip of second cup=gotta go! You can tell I work with children; poo is funny!
Penny-As usual, I am enjoying your pictures. I am dumbfounded at the fact that the Germans were in Longyearbyen during the war and then burned it down. I am not sure where I was when history was taught to me. I had no idea they had advanced so far north. Why would they occupy Longyearbyen? Did they see it as a strategic place that they needed to be? Why would they burn it down? It is so far removed from everything, it seems. I don't think I have ever seen an auk. Are they a bird indigineous to the northern areas? Your description reminded me of the little bird described in the LIW book On The Shores Of Silver Lake.
Heather -I love the studio pics that you posted. I am guessing that is baby Bea's mama in the second photo. I wish photographers were doing these when I was having babies. Sorry about your lavatory. Such an inconvenience! Do you have a second bathroom?
Kim- LOL! No card needed. It's funny the things we use to mark the passage of time/aging.
Lenora- I could be a royal P.I.T.A.! My DH says I am my own P.I.T.A.!
Hey Penny and Heather- Have either of you seen the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (the newer version with Ben Stiller)? He visits Greenland and Iceland. Are they speaking Norwegian in that? Eyjafjallajökull is a volcano mentioned. The pronunciation is mind boggling to me!0 -
Penny ~ Your photos are amazing. Love the bright sun glinting off the mountains. But, so cold!
KJL ~ I have had the same problem this week. Think it was brought on by the work I was doing to clean up my yard.
Heather ~ Lovely pictures.
Joyce ~ Was Charlie going to put real strawberries in his pancakes? Good luck on you extraction. I never want to every have another tooth pulled.
Going to walk the Pom and then clean myself up to go to lunch with a couple of friends. May go to the mall and look for some pants and tops.

KJ - Fortunately we do have other toilets, but I am missing having my own. We have decided to call in an expensive plumber who is coming next Wednesday morning. Until then I shall be perambulating in the night.
Yes, that is the lovely Dr Jessamy Hibberd, who has six books available on Amazon. Including, THIS BOOK WILL MAKE YOU CALM.
Lisa and KJ - Talking of Pooh reminds me of DH 's 70th birthday party last year, when I was reading a wonderful poem by AA Milne which begins "Wherever I am there's always Pooh, there's always Pooh and me." My granddaughter, the one in the pic, who was only just 2 yrs old at the time and very recently potty trained, heard the word Pooh and immediately started taking her trousers and knickers off in the middle of the room of invited guests. I could hardly finish reading my poem, which was a tribute to DH. It has been a family joke ever since!
I think I have managed to connect my printer to the new modem. (Haven't tried it yet, but the test print worked ok) It took me an hour and a half, downloading software from HP and following instructions. We have the slowest Internet speed in the world. If I have done it, it is a considerable achievement on my part. :drinker: Especially as DH couldn't manage it. I am baffled as to why it was so complicated - surely it's something that happens all the time?
I also went through all the apps on my tablet and phone and managed to clear space. That was hard work. Took ages. I was then able to download a new Vamoos app from our travel company, to help us with our Mexico trip. So far I can't see anything on it that isn't on the paper itinerary, apart from the weather and some maps, but they can update it while we are there.
Sooooooo - I am pretty pleased with myself. Let's hope the printer works now!
Just popping out to pick up a couple of things that DH couldn't find. And to pay in some US royalties for THE TROUBLE WITH HERBERT. It's available from Amazon, I think Barbie and Kim have read it. It's on the US school system - hence the royalties. It is one of my favourite efforts! I am Heather Eyles. It's a funny book about a guinea pig, with illustrations, aimed at children who are just starting to read on their own. I wrote it in the early 90s, which is why it's strange, but nice, to get royalties now. Thank you USA,
Heather UK

Penney: I love all of the pictures of Longyearbyen. What an exceptional and beautiful place! The Puffin is beautiful. I've seen them in the San Juan Islands in Washington & Gulf Islands of Canada, and I understand they have a nesting site on a rock off of the Oregon Coast but haven't seen them there. :noway:
Heather: Sorry to hear you are having plumbing problems. DH grew up in a project house. His dad was always remodeling or adding on, and had little skill so DH learned all sorts of useful skills along the way. Plumbing is one of them. That said, we have been very fortunate so far and have had no serious problems. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this continues to be true.
Miriam: Jayne Ann Krentz is the only author I read who regularly describes food as a part of the story. Her lead characters are frequently vegetarians, & I've read lots about pesto but have never been tempted to try it. :noway:
Barbie: Thank you for starting our new threads each month. It is a gift beyond measure. :flowerforyou:
We had sea lions barking until late last night. We live about 70 miles inland from the coast. They have followed the spring salmon run up river and are noisy, unpleasant pests. The population has grown exponentially the past few years. Earlier this spring they took over the public dock of a town just down river from us and did a lot of damage. So far they have not taken over our docks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this continues to be true.

Asking for prayer for Tara Leonard (34), my step-daughter and her family. There is no brain activity. If no improvement, she will be taken off life support this evening. This is what Lisa Leonard posted last night.
No answers right now they are calling it broken heart syndrome and with her recent breathing issues her heart just stopped. She was without oxygen too long. 18 min response time on EMTs to get her ventilated. They are saying she just couldn't take anymore stress.

--I have had meditation as one of my resolutions and, like you, had a hard time scheduling it. Recently I decided to add it to my already organized morning plan and meditate as soon as I finish my breakfast and before I walk the first dog. It helped me to attach it to a plan that was already in place. I wish you the best in finding a way to schedule meditation time for yourself.

I've decided where I'm gonna put the tattoo!!! along the inside of one of my calves1

Pip – Life size? Placed in a position that would be natural if you had stepped in ink then placed your monkey-foot on your calf? If so, that makes perfect sense!0
