OP (@jeanniewes) - Please add GOLF to the "SEPTEMBER 2016 Walk/run/jog/bike/GOLF challenge"

Golf only counts if you walk the course with a push cart or carrying your bag.

Not to be contrary, but wouldn't that just be walking? It's walking on a golf course rather than a track or on the road or in a park. I know you get the added value of dragging a weight while walking and the additional exercise of swinging at the ball...but at its core, it's still the walking that you are tracking for mileage, isn't it?

I was, however, thinking that maybe it could be called a 'mileage' challenge, since there are many different ways to get mileage that lie outside the initial list (e.g. swimming, rowing, canoeing/kayaking, paddleboarding, skipping)...but since I'm new here, I thought that might be a bit forward of me to recommend. However, I almost didn't join because I will be doing minimal walking and hopefully more paddleboarding, but figured what the hey, this thread will give me a place to log my miles instead of my minutes.

Contrary to popular belief, golfing is good exercise if you walk the course and stay away from the brewski's and the "19th hole". Golf does include walking and pulling (or pushing) the golf bag...plus a lot of stretching (practice swings and the actual swing), full squats (examining the green). Plus, if walking the course, you stand the entire time. Next time you see golf on TV - look at the Pro's - they are seriously ripped. Their workout routine is ridiculous.

No biggie if it is not in the title - I will log it anyway.

    Cheers.

P.S. - I usually have an Arnold Palmer at the 19th hole B)

@Tweaking_Time - totally agree how great golf is for physical exercise. 3-4+ hours of walking, swinging, bending, hunting for lost balls, and squatting adds up to some good mileage and a great all body workout. I have a set of clubs myself, and have never been as sore as the first time I played in a BB tournament (seriously, couldn't move that afternoon...and we had carts, we didn't walk the course). Was just saying though that mileage for golf would just be how much you walked on the course, so it's kind of already included in the challenge title; whereas, other things like distance water sports aren't. But the group seems rather inclusive per @jdelaroy's comment, so I'm not overly concerned...was just pointing it out.

I forgot to post this last night. Missouri River on the left, KATY trail on the right. Since it rained and the trail was tacky, I had it all to myself

I'm in! Goal is 100 miles for August. I'm tracking via Excel spreadsheet so I can track the days where I don't get as much mileage and need to amp it up a little.

    08/1 = 3,155 steps/1.44 mi
    08/2 = 4,991 steps/2.28 miles

So had a little accident on the bike this morning. A little sore and bruised but basically okay.
Day 93 of riding every day. My goal was to ride 1500 by day 100. need about 15 miles a day to get there.

    8-1 24.61
    8-2 4.11
    8-3 4.48

still planning to continue riding every day just hope to find a way to convince the husband it's okay to ride.

2 August: 2.00 miles glider machine (low impact)
3 August: 2.88 miles SUP; 2.06 miles glider machine (low impact)

3 August both travel days - just a bare min of 30 mins walking. But now in Wales so hoping for some good long hilly walks...

350 cals burned or more: 1 out of 3
    (42 cumulative towards 100 target)
    Atleast over 30 mins: 2
    Lazy/rest days : 0

Good to see people getting off to good starts...

SUP - only came across that one for the first time the other day on a welsh tourist brochure. A new way of getting wet for me!

I'm in! I am in challenges on Fitbit but I am still finding it hard to get up and out. A little bit more motivation never hurts!!!!! I'm going to a little modest this month though. I think I'll go for 75 miles for the month of August and see if I can blow past that amount.

    Aug. 1/16---0 miles
    Aug. 2/16---2.36 miles
    Aug. 3/16---2.53 miles
    Aug. 4/16---
