morning ladies~
well Homer needed to go outside at 11;45 last night and was awake until Tom got up at 2, then went back to sleep until 5:45... luckily I got Tomds dinner and lunch set already.. having my cup of tea and getting dressed and then watering the plants up at my brother's place and then feeding DFIL if I have time and going to work at 9
.. will check in tonight0 -
cheri sounds like you are over the worst of the move, leaving boxes in the spare room is exactly what I would do cause you really don't know if you're going to be there longer than a year. When we moved into this house from a condo, I put a lot of things I didn't think we would want (DH is a pack rat collector) into boxes and they still haven't been opened 3 years later but if he wants to know where his stuff is, I can say "go look in those boxes!"
Totally agree that a new job, new move, new anything is a great way to start a new habit- I love a clean slate.
Glo so sorry for your loss and the struggles you've been through with the shingles. Take time to heal and keep checking in with us.

Good morning all! Happy Monday! Just had a weird little glitch with my computer. When I clicked on the community tab to check out yesterday's posts, my bookmarks didn't show up. So I had to come in through the "backdoor" like some one who was just finding our page. ANYWAY, I could read and catch up, but it wouldn't let me comment and said I had to sign up or log in. Weird. But I just went back to my home page and reclicked on community and here we are, back to normal.
Ketone Karen- I LOVE Pinterest! When I first discovered it, I would spend hours looking at everything. I had to take myself off the site for a while (a year more or less) and now I just go on when I am looking for something specific.
Carol- Happy, happy birthday friend! I hope your day was wonderful and filled with people you love!
Gloria- So sorry to hear about your mom! Love and hugs to you Sorry also about the shingles. Feel better!
Rori- Your adventures in W TX sound/look like a great time! I love the whole chuck wagon dinner idea. I love touristy things like that. You have to experience it at least once, even if you are a local!
Lisa and Rori- You ladies look MAHVELOUS! So happy you could spend some time together!
Heather- Bea is adorable! She will be getting around soon enough. She is probably desperate to keep up with her older brother and sister! I have read that babies try and fail to walk 400+ times before they achieve success! Isn't that astounding? I wonder when we lose that spirit and commitment to succeed.
Pip- My first thought on the airstream name was the Silver Bullet. Sorry to hear about Kirby's latest trials Sending thoughts and hugs to you both.
Well ladies, I have to log off and eat something. I worked so hard yesterday, doing yard work and did some major cleaning in house (walls and cupboards) and I didn't eat enough protein so I am feeling kind of icky this morning. Love and hugs to all! Kelly (KJ)

Gloria ~ Hugs for all you have gone through. I think I remember that your mom had been ill for quite a while. Best wishes that the shingles does not reappear. Going through that and dealing with mom's passing must be terrible.
Pip ~ Sorry to hear about Kirby's problem. I almost had that happen to me a while back and was petrified. Thank goodness you had him prepared.
Lisa ~ Your pic with you and Rorie is great . What a wonderful experience for you and her.

Katla – In HS I had a friend whose father had and boarded several horses. We were encouraged to come out and ride and groom the horses. Riding, of course, was my ‘favorite’ part of going there. My BF and I would go every Saturday afternoon and we loved it. But, neither of us ‘owned’ a horse. BF always rode a black horse, who was quite ‘spirited’. Another friend wanted to ride it; so she got off and let her 'try' to get on it. He was a very tall horse. This is the same girl that would ‘pitch a fit’ to ride the donkey they kept for the Live Nativity Scene at the Methodist Church. The donkey had a path and on this path was a tree that he’d stay under because of the shade and location. Lead her around a couple of times; then let her have it; donkey went under tree and stopped, she was laid back on her back and could not get him to move. Both BF and I got whippings for leaving her with the donkey. When she tried to get up on Midnight (the black horse) she could not even get her leg up to the stirrup, even with help and someone holding the horse, without him moving. She finally gave up. BF was about the only one who rode him and could handle his ‘spirited’ personality.
Gloria in WA – Sorry to hear about your mother passing. Sorry that you are having to go through with the ‘shingles’ at the same time of grieving and not feeling well enough to drive very far. Hope that when they clear up you will consider the “Shingles” vaccine, so that any future outbreaks won’t be as bad. Both my sons had horrible cases and each took the Shingles vaccine afterwards.
Heather – I don’t care for liver in any form; really don’t like how it smells when cooking; DH loves it, especially chicken livers and gizzards. I might eat a gizzard or two; but, not the livers. Don’t like the texture or either. It is sort of like sushi … one or two pieces will usually do me.
Hello to all the 'newbies' - Come often and post; tell us a little about yourselves. Name, location (general or specific), family, hobbies, and/or goals.

Done 15x10x18 swings this morning in addition to my machines. My weight is gradually creeping down, but it's taking its own sweet time. 2 lbs to go to get back to goal weight. I've had a pesky pound for a long time, but don't want to get used to two pesky ones. :noway:
Calves liver tonight (which is a delicacy over here) and spring cabbage. Lunch is avgolemono, made from the pressure cooked stock from the guinea fowl, rice, egg yolk and lemon juice. I am going to add peas and some left over meat from the bird.
This afternoon I am planning to dye my roots. I haven't done it since before the cruise. Then I will have to make a hair trim appointment.
Looking forward to yoga tomorrow morning. Our lovely teacher has scheduled in an extra one for us during the holidays. I'm going to do some kettlebell swings as well to bump up the calorie burn.
Lots of love Heather UK
Heather I had to look up avgolemono, chicken & rice soup with eggs & lemon juice whisked in. Sounds yum!
What color will you dye your roots? There are so many lovely choices...turquoise, fuchsia, chartreuse, sapphire, lavender...wouldn't you create a sensation? LOL!
to everyone. It's a new day!

Gloria, ((((hugs))))
Janet, I have been here reading, but it has been so chaotic at my house that I cannot think so have not been responding. I have been helping out my neighbor with his three boys, one autistic and one with severe ADHD and a violence obsession (plays at war games or cops ALL the time). The three year old is just busy but a sweetheart. I won't be watching them this week, but occasionally for doctor visits from here on out, since he shattered his elbow the third day on his new job. So I have been using my Rehabilitation Counseling skills with dad, since he will never have full use of his left arm again. He has to completely change direction, job-wise, since he has always done manual labor jobs (CNA, farming, mechanics). At 36 his self-concept was of a strong, physically capable person, and it was a blow to his self-esteem that one fall could change that a bit (he will still be strong, but one arm won't be but he has not realized that yet). I tried to get him to see that this might be an opportunity, since Vocational Rehabilitation will work with him now, and has funds for going back to school or job training. He never had the money to go to college or tech school. Hopefully it sinks in, since this guy has severe depression and needs ECT (shock therapy) every so often.
Used my master gardener skills to help a friend figure out what to plant in her new house's yard. She will "shop" by yard since I have lots of perennials that can be divided.
My youngest daughter turned nine on Saturday so we had a big day for her. The girls had Tae Kwon Do testing in the morning, and she walked off with the "best in class" trophy! I got my grandkids for the night and so it was busy and fun for two days with them! Here is a photo of the birthday girl with my grandson, taken a couple of years ago.

Miriam, good to hear from you. Love the picture of the kids. Hopefully you have a bit quieter week. My hat is off to you, I don't think I could keep up with the kids at this point. You're a special lady and super mom. Hope you get some you time.

GloworminWA wrote: »Hello everyone - I'm finally feeling emotionally in a place that I can check-in. I don't remember if I told you that my mother passed away on July 2nd and the next day I broke out with shingles, or not. I drove to CA for the funeral and was gone from 7/13-7/26. While I've made that trip many times myself in the past this time I was just exhausted the whole trip and couldn't drive more than a couple of hours without starting to nod off. I'm sure it was a combination of grief and still healing from shingles. Ever since I got shingles I just have not been eating the same - nothing sounds or tastes good so the result is I have lost 14 over these past 4 wks. I still have some lingering numbness around my side and back where the blisters were but other than that I'm on of the lucky ones who will probably not have pain for years.
I have missed you all and thought of you many times. I have no idea what has gone on with you over the past month or so but if there are any important updates about people on here would someone please PM me as I am not going to go back and read through the posts.
Hoping to be on more often. Love you all - Gloria in WA
Gloria so sorry for your loss and having shingles during this trying time. Be kind to yourself and take the time to heal properly. Thinking of you and sending healing thoughts and prayers.

Katla in Beautiful NW Oregon - Former horse owner here. DD started riding lessons at age 6 on school horses. We looked into several horse leases for her around the age of 10 since she had shown a commitment to riding and wanted to start competing in horse shows and the schooling horses were not allowed to leave the farm.
Eventually we bought a 6yo gelding and started training him up as a show horse. I became a 'show Mom' from that point and we competed at horse shows from Feb till November each year, sometimes as often as 2-3 times a month. Fast forward to 2010 and the sudden passing of my husband. DD suddenly stopped riding and we sold the horse in 2011 after it was clear DD's show days were done.
What I learned - Horses are very expensive. Not only do you have the cost of Vet, farriers, dentist, feed & boarding, trainers (for the horse, rider training is another expense) but there is the always famous 'they did stupid in the field' medical emergency. They have minor lameness that can only be treated by resting them, so no riding for awhile. You must clean and groom them frequently, walk them, ride them and be there when the health professionals are working on your horse. If they need shots for treatment, you will learn to give dermal and muscle shots to a horse that doesn't want them. They think they are being stung by a bee.
Equipment is expensive and of course you need more than one of almost everything. If you want to take your horse someplace, add in the cost of a trailer and a car/truck to tow a trailer and weight of a horse. Of course horses are like potato chips, you can't have just one. They are a herd animal and being by themselves causes them to stress. We boarded our horse with others, so we stopped with just one.
What do you get if you own vs lease? You get to own your own riding schedule, go where ever you want with your horse, get tack that fits both you and your horse perfectly and a world of animal health and management experience. It is the perfect way to keep kids on the good side of life if they are responsible for a horse because they will have no time left for mischief making. Your horse could be a dream horse to own or an expensive problem. Yes, you will fall in love with the horse and bond with them.
We loved that big goofy guy to pieces and miss him terribly. Personality plus and as smart as they come. We still have most of the expensive equipment in the basement but gave away to the new owner all of his custom sized equipment so he could still have something familiar (and fitted!) while the new owner slowly bought new things for her new horse.
The various lease horses we looked at all had some form of restriction (couldn't leave the farm, couldn't use on Saturdays because the owner wanted that as her ride day, etc.) that didn't work well for our intented goal so we bought instead.
My advice would be if you can find a lease or partial lease to begin with you will be better off financially and if the horse develops health problems you are not stuck with a lawn ornament that can financially drain the pocket book.
If you decide to buy a horse, make sure you have an experienced horse person with you to evaluate the prospect and be prepared to walk away from a horse they do not recommend. Also, make sure you get a Vet check before sale!! There are so many ways problems can be hidden and you really need to know what you are buying.
Good luck!

Wow Miriam! I truly don't know HOW you do it! :flowerforyou: One day would finish me off. My two DGC have no behavioural problems and I have DH to do most of the playing, but I still find it exhausting.
Went into town today as DH wanted a hair cut, so I thought I would run to the pharmacy for bits and pieces. Ended up buying the "eye of round" from the skinnytaste.com Barbacoa-beef recipe that I mentioned the other day, which is what made me resurrect my pressure cooker. My butcher, with whom I had a long discussion, looked it up online and said we call it "silverside". He didn't have any, so I ended up buying two one pound pieces of braising steak. They are in the freezer now waiting for a good day to make it. Most will be tucked back in the freezer once it is cooked and shredded. With some frozen gravy.
I had a lot of trouble finding yellow split peas to make my ham hock soup. No one had them. I ended up buying ordinary dried peas. I'm sure it will be delicious. The ham hock has been sitting in the freezer for ages. Now I have my PC on the go I will make the soup . Will cook it tomorrow and have it Wednesday night, after I've been out for lunch.
I also made a hair trim reservation for tomorrow afternoon, so I'd better get on and dye my roots today.asap.
Then I reserved a lovely hotel, that I have been to before, for the night of DGD's birthday party. It's the top choice in Brighton on TripAdvisor. I did think about staying at another one that has a swimming pool, but some reviews weren't brilliant, so I've opted for this sure fire, slightly cheaper one. Got the last room. Now to pick a restaurant. It will be like a mini holiday and we can spend the Monday exploring Brighton, which DH hardly knows.
Now to do my hair.

MY BATHING SUIT
When I was a child in the 1950s (?), the bathing suit for the mature figure was-boned, trussed and reinforced, not so much sewn as engineered. They were built to hold back and uplift, and they did a good job.
Today's stretch fabrics are designed for the prepubescent girl with a figure carved from a potato chip.
The mature woman has a choice, she can either go up front to the maternity department and try on a floral suit with a skirt, coming away looking like a hippopotamus that escaped from Disney's Fantasia, or she can wander around every run-of-the-mill department store trying to make a sensible choice from what amounts to a designer range of fluorescent rubber bands.
What choice did I have? I wandered around, made my sensible choice and entered the chamber of horrors known as the fitting room. The first thing I noticed was the extraordinary tensile strength of the stretch material. The Lycra used in bathing costumes was developed, I believe, by NASA to launch small rockets from a slingshot, which gives the added bonus that if you manage to actually lever yourself into one, you would be protected from shark attacks. Any shark taking a swipe at your passing midriff would immediately suffer whiplash.
I fought my way into the bathing suit, but as I twanged the shoulder strap in place I gasped in horror, my boobs had disappeared!
Eventually, I found one boob cowering under my left armpit. It took a while to find the other. At last I located it flattened beside my seventh rib.
The problem is that modern bathing suits have no bra cups. The mature woman is now meant to wear her boobs spread across her chest like a speed bump. I realigned my speed bump and lurched toward the mirror to take a full view assessment.
The bathing suit fit all right, but unfortunately it only fitted those bits of me willing to stay inside it. The rest of me oozed out rebelliously from top, bottom and sides. I looked like a lump of Playdoh wearing undersized cling wrap.
As I tried to work out where all those extra bits had come from, the prepubescent sales girl popped her head through the curtain, "Oh, there you are," she said, admiring the bathing suit.
I replied that I wasn't so sure and asked what else she had to show me. I tried on a cream crinkled one that made me look like a lump of masking tape, and a floral two-piece that gave the appearance of an oversized napkin in a serving ring.
I struggled into a pair of leopard-skin bathers with ragged frills and came out looking like Tarzan's Jane, pregnant with triplets and having a rough day.
I tried on a black number with a midriff fringe and looked like a jellyfish in mourning.
LOVE THIS ONE!!!!
I tried on a bright pink pair with such a high cut leg I thought I would have to wax my eyebrows to wear them.
Finally, I found a suit that fit, it was a two-piece affair with a shorts-style bottom and a loose blouse-type top. It was cheap, comfortable, and bulge-friendly, so I bought it. My ridiculous search had a successful outcome, I figured.
When I got it home, I found a label that read, "Material might become transparent in water."
So, if you happen to be on the beach or near any other body of water this year and I'm there too, I'll be the one in cut-off jeans and a T-shirt!
You'd better be laughing or rolling on the floor by this time. Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain, with or without a stylish bathing suit!
"You can't change the past, but you can ruin the present by worrying over the future"
Today someone asked me if I liked you.
I laughed, and I said, "Ha! That's funny!! I LOVE that chick!! She's funny, caring, crazy as heck, sweet, beautiful, she's reading this story & I love her!!"
Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the floor each morning the devil says
"Oh Crap, she's up!"

Miriam - Is this neighbor of yours already having EST's? If no, why do you think he needs them? Especially, since they cause memory problems? He could basically loose the ability to remember how to do something or have problems doing them or problems with learning? Isn't any kind of medication or combination of medication working for him or not? EST is 'extreme', especially if one needs several of them. What is it that he'd need to do in between?

These birthdays are going to put the pounds on me. I stuck to a small piece of cake yesterday....
So you know how I announced grandbaby #12 due in February?
Yesterday we found out #13 is on the way and due in April.
I guess I taught my kids how to do one thing well....5 -

well I survived my first day of work in the school cafeteria on the first day of school. The manager of that sch cafe told me I did an awesome job. I felt like I was in the way because I had to keep asking what do you want me to do and how do you want this done. I just did my best and hoped I was more helpful than an interruption in the midst of routines. Resting now and planning to go to Fit Girlz tonight for some fun cardio.5

Wow, what a difference a good night's sleep makes. Of course it took 2 Percocets and an Ambien. But I slept well. My girls were quite concerned that my heart rate was 39-41 and made sure Charlie checked on me during the night. Since he gets up about twice a night to empty his ileostomy bag that was no problem and I had no problem going back to sleep. I am going into this appointment tomorrow knowing that I may have several problems and am ready to get fixed. I am tired of being winded going down the hall way, setting my pillows up in a reclining position after i go through everything to get ready and get in bed. I just can't catch my breath to relax my breathing. Usually just having my c-pap on takes care of that. So if she says I need a heart cath or anything I am going to say I am ready today, let's do it. I think Charlie is concerned enough he is going with me even though it is at 7:45 AM. He is even taking a shower for me! Then we are going to our local medical supply store and try to find a nice hard pillow or something that will give his butt more support when he sits in our soft love seat.
Lenora, you had me rolling on the floors reading about 'the swim suit'. I hope this wasn't an actual experience.
Love all of you, you keep me going every moment of every day.
Just live streamed the last of the individual routines in the women's gymnastics. Now I don't have to stay up until 11 PM to see it on NBC.0
