    Sandy,
That is encouraging news about Phil. Let us hope that he uses his second chance wisely. I hope his wife can learn to become a resource for a positive outcome for him. Sometimes those motiivated by love don't necessarily make the best choices when it comes to dealing with those they care about.

    Marie,
I am glad you found your wandering Sammy. Amazing how they can get themselves into places that they can't get out of!!:noway:

    Barbie,
So sorry to hear you were mistaken for a "bowling pin" by that big dog at the park. I know you are banged up, but there is an upside. Think how much worse the injury could have been if you had fallen and still weighed what you did when you started MFP! When I took my tumble, that certainly crossed my mind.

    Sandi38,
Keep cool--thank goodness for AC!!:drinker: :drinker:

    Take care all.

:flowerforyou: I am feeling better this morning.....I didn't get a lot of sleep but that allowed me to ice my knee twice and finish the great book I've been reading. I stayed home from line dance this morning  and in a minute I'll call my friend that's expecting me to walk with her this afternoon and invite her to the house to sit and talk and drink tea......I did yoga this morning with only a small modification because my knee won't bend too well

:flowerforyou: Barb, you're right that the fall could have been much worse if I were carrying all that extra weight...I'm also grateful that it's my left knee so there won't be any problem with driving so I can go to the library and return my book and get the one I want to read next.

:flowerforyou: the raised bed is finished......we replanted the daisies and transplanted the marigolds and poppies.......today or tomorrow I'll transplant the sunflower and pumpkin seedling.

Hello ladies, feeling much cooler too, bought a AC yesterday and slept much better. Humidity has been playing with my wrist and arm, I put rub on and wrapped it in a support to give me some relief from the pain. I will not be going to the gym until it is settled again. I think I tore some tendons lifting the weights and that has started the problem.

  Barbie you and I are on the mend I see. I have two bad knees to worry about. Stretches, lunges, step up exercises have helped big time to put strength in the leg muscles to help the tendons around the knee to mend. Hope you are back up and moveing again soon. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

  Sandy, good to hear things are getting better for you, it is a powerful thing that prayer habit.

My profile picture features my sisters' dog Sam (big guy) and my first sister's dog , Cleo (minipin). I tagged the photo as Sam was thinking, " Mom!, The fleas are getting bigger!."

Hi everyone! We just got back from our mini-holiday to Edmonton, Alberta. One of Neil's favorite things to do is visit West Edmonton Mall, the largest mall in North America. It always sounds good to me but shopping gets old fast! The good part was we walked for miles, Neil in the wheelchair. The bad part, there is a lot of good food at the mall. I will say no more. Back to program with my nose to the grindstone now. I missed my WW meeting this week so have nearly a week to get back to where I was. Not sure if that is possible. It is always good to get home and look forward to a sleep in my own bed. We really did have a good time and enjoyed just hanging out.

Sandy -- I thought of you everyday and wondered how Phil was doing. Glad to hear he is coming along. I hope someone will be able to give him an attitude adjustment. It sounds like you are up to the challenge!! I wonder if there is any chance that they will release him directly to an inpatient rehab. program. I know your al-anon friends will be so helpful to you.

Marie -- Glad that Sammy was safe.

Barbie -- Your knee sounds very sore. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow.

I really need to get a few things done here. Just wanted to check on Sandy and say hi to you all. Take care and keep smiling. Gayla

    Hi All!!

Just to let you know that Phil was moved to a regular room yesterday but is back in ICU today. They put in a new shunt for his dialysis near his shoulder and then he went for dialysis. When he returned they removed the old shunt near his groin and it was bleeding since his blood is so thin. When he woke up in the morning he was in a pool of blood and they brought him back to ICU.
HIs hemogoblin was only 6 where normal is 12 and his ammonia went back up to 50. I called later tonight and his hemogobin was 8.6, so the blood they gave him is helping. Everyone says how grateful he should be to be given this second chance in living, but none of us think he gets it, he is demanding and only worries about getting out of the hospital. He has a long way to go and without rehab I really don't think he will stay sober. The next drink will kill him but he just doesn't get it. It is frustrating and worrisome all at the same time. My husband is exhausted and I am starting to worry about him. He already has a blockage in his widow maker artery so I am trying to make him stay home more often.

I appreciate all of your concern and I am doing fine. I have a program to work and it keeps me focused, not to say I am not angry or worried with Phil.

I will keep you posted and let you know if anything wakes this kid up, it could be a defense for his fear since everyone has told him he is lucky to be alive.

    Hi,
    Just lost my post...grrrr!

Sandy, glad that Phil is doing better. His condition sounds like the kind where 1 more drink could do him in! Hope he is willing to get help.

Barbie, sorry about your accident in the park and am glad you are feeling better!
I called Vick over to the computer to show her the picture of Barbie's red poodle and she said"what web site is this? Is it a dog web site?" Soo I took a closer look and what do you know....it is a dog web site...LOL Sooo I went and tried to upload my picture of MY LITTLE PEANUT that lives with my sister...I have not quite mastered it.

Am not doing well with the food. I am going to spend more time on the boards and blog when I want to eat! Will keep you posted!

Have a good Friday and the rest of the weekend too!

for the report on Phil. I agree with you that he is just a kid. He needs to wake up and be a man and admit his problem if he wants to continue in this world, JUst Maybe this is a wake up call for him. I am praying that it is.God bless you all. ake care of Babe. I know this is hard on him.

:flowerforyou: Good Morning, I am sitting here with an ice bag on my knee.....that will keep me sitting down for 20 minutes LOL
I overdid a bit yesterday......I skipped my dance class but rode the exercise bike too much and did too much walking around and bending down in the yard yesterday working on a composting project. Jake took the dogs to the dog park but I didn't take it easy the way he suggested  I'll try to do better today (do I hear you all laughing at the idea of me sitting still ?)

:flowerforyou: Sandy, alcoholism is "cunning, baffling, and powerful" and often called the disease of denial so it's not surprising that Phil is so stubborn in his reluctance to seek help...trust God and keep showing up. We are all pulling for you and for him.

:flowerforyou: Sandi, It looks like you succeeded in uploading a darling dog picture.....Marie, Sandy, Barb, Marilyn, and I are so involved with our dogs that they take up a lot of our time and energy and are frequently to the main topic of conversation for us. My cats are not quite as demanding of my time but right now my 15 year old cat, Haifa, is considering lying down on the computer keyboard so I'll pay more attention to him. The younger cat, Bernie, wakes us up at sunrise to remind us that he likes an early breakfast and would like to go outside to play. On a perfect day for them they would like to be let in and out about a dozen times. They both have favorite cool places to sleep outside. Jeffrey has his life slightly controlled by his cats

:flowerforyou: Marie, where we lived before here it hot up to over 100 degrees every day in the summer. The first time I let Haifa go out by himself he was gone for hours and I was sure he was dead from the heat. I walked all over the neighborhood calling his name and looking for him........finally I realized how many cats I had seen and they all looked happy and healthy so I stopped worrying about Haifa being dead from the heat. He came home in the late afternoon when it was time to eat........i finally decided that he'd found a shady place to sleep and stopped worrying about him when he went out . Dogs are different. They need us to take care of them. I think Barb is the one that said that dogs are like toddlers, they follow you around and always want you to hug and touch them, cats are like teenagers, aloof and petulant until they want something.

:flowerforyou: This is the weekend of the big lavender festival.......about 30,000 people are expected to show up in our little town. There is a lavender farm not far from our house. We're going to walk over there this afternoon after Jake gets back from the golf course......for the festival the farms have music and food and wine and entertainment. Parking is difficult so there's a bus that you can take that goes to eight different farms. The bus costs about $15.00 and you have to go to town to get it so it's not worth it to us especially since one farm visit will be enough for us. We have two small lavender plants in our yard and I think I'll buy one more this year.

Your new doggie pic is adorable!! Reminds me of Dreyfus, the little guy in my ticker. Next month it will be two years since I lost him to cancer and I still miss him:cry::cry: --though I see a lot of him in Pepper. They are the same breed, and Pepper does some of the same goofy little mannerisms that  Dreyfus  would do.

    Sandy-
Thinking good thoughts for Phil and for you. I fear fighting alcohol is like losing weight. The desire has to come from within--no one else can do it for you. All they can do is point out the obvious need to change.:ohwell:

    Barbie-
It figures "The Lady of Perpetual Motion"--my new nickname for you    --would get carried away and overtax that knee!!! Take it easy on your walk to the Lavender Festival. There is a farm down here in Oregon that is having something going on tomorrow, so this must be "Lavender Weekend" or something. I think I would rather go to a Lavender Festival than a Garlic one--and they have those, too!!

You are right, it was me who made the philosophical comparison between cats and dogs.

    Marie-
You asked about my parents--they are doing fine. Today is grocery shopping day, so I will see them later when I deliver the goods. Tuesday my mom and I will go for haircuts. My dad is getting more easily confused. I haven't had "the talk" yet about driving, but I have managed to keep him from needing to drive anywhere for the last 3 weeks...so does that count? Yeah, I admit, I am putting it off.

Hello to all that I didn't address. Gotta get moving before it gets too warm to be outside.

At least the heat index will be lower

I had a very refrehing lunch for this heat. a Jay robb's skake with 1 cup of Vegies and fruit juice, So withfruits and veggies and protein shake I had a full meal. Just the thing on these hot days.
I may repeat that tonight for it is just to blame hot to cook.

I will try to post when I can, but I've been very busy working and trying to help my daughter move! Tonight we start a vacation (DH & me) for a week and I look forward to some rest and recreation! :flowerforyou: We are probably going to do day trips and save some money but in Rhode Island that's not a problem:) We're near the beautiful beaches, Block Island, the mountains of New Hampshire the green meadows of Vermont , the layed back towns in Maine and the farmlands and charm of the old towns in Quebec!! We don't usually head south, like Connecticut etc.
So, sending hugs to all! Take care of your knee Barbie!

Hello every one, just checking in, finished my 12 day week tonight so my body and I are relaxing with the cats and dogs. I am dog sitting this weekend, my sister is off to camp for a couple of days. She thought Sam would be too hot and would have to be muzzled in a public place, so we agreed he would much prefer the air conditioned muzzle free enviroment of his aunties room and get all the fussing he needs. I know they all are happy to see me home they do miss me when I'm working every day.

My picture is of Henry and Buttons, enjoying the sunshine, Henry is a Main Coon cat, he is the bigger of the two.

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Sandy, my prayers are going out to you and your DH, :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Barbie, My cats do give me the impression that they think the dogs are a little bit goofy on the love me touch me thing, but when I bring the brushs out, it is line up for the pampering! I think it is funny how the two ladies can just push the big boys off my lap and get their brush first.

    Good Evening All!

Sandy my prayers are with you! Tell hubby to take it easy. Him being down would not help a bit! You too, get some rest.

Marie do you have any family gatherings upcoming?

Barbie I use ice cream to cool my abs. From the inside! LOL

Birdie and all the rest I enjoy the pics!

I ran a race tonight and won my age group! It was 91 degrees at the start. Several of the runners got into heat trouble. I have been training in it and had no problems at all. Actually I enjoyed it! Anyway anohter off the bucket list! Sam is coming home tomorrow and I cannot wait. I did not get the job that I wanted but there will be another! Day and I are going to a fine art show tomorrow and that will be fun. Not a lot else going on. I am looking for another race in a couple of weeks. I have real big one coming up on Sept 25. There will be 7,500 runners at it. That will be a RACE! LOL

Everyone have a great weekend! I will check in tomorrow if possible.

Hi everyone! I think I am the only person here who is not a huge dog person. I love cats and have had a few over the years but allergies to cats and dogs prevent us from having another. I worked today for a few hours which seemed strange for a Friday. We also needed to get a few groceries so we can eat for a few more days. I had a better day today eating wise but am looking for a perfect day tomorrow. No pressure, just perfection!!

Sandy -- Sorry that Phil had a setback but the setback may bring it home to him as he likely has no memory of the withdrawl. It is hard to comprehend how near to death one was when he didn't really live it. I hope the Dr. will be very firm with him and that they bring in a psychologist. Unfortunately he needs way more help than he realizes. I hope Babe is getting rest. It must be very hard for him. Is Phil his only child? You remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Barbie -- The lavender festival sounds amazing. I finally have a small lavender plant growing this year. I have never had much success with it but love it so much, flowers and scent. I don't remember if I told you that my son forgot to water my plants on the deck when he came to check our house while we were away. The tomatoes are looking very sad but are covered with blossoms. I drenched them and am hopeful they will return to their previous glory! The ones in the garden look fine but are not as far along as the potted ones that I started in the house. I have lots of strawberries but not too many red ones yet.

Marie -- I hope you stay cool, that heat sounds so oppressive. Sounds like you have a nice meal solution.

Marlouise -- You are a nice addition to the group here. I can tell you are a huge animal lover.

Birdie -- Have a wonderful holiday, you deserve it!!

Barb -- You are such a good daughter. Are you an only child? I was always so thankful for my sister as my mother aged. I have no regrets for the amount of time I spent with her and I know you won't either.

Jeffrey -- Is your MIL still in hospital? She really works you and Day! How exciting to look forward to a wedding!

Beth -- Do you have some more runs this summer? I bet you are enjoying the summer at home.

Gigi -- I hope you can pop in again.

I know I missed someone and sorry if it is you! Take care and keep smiling. Gayla   :flowerforyou:

If they ever develop an MFP for kitties, I think the one on the left in your picture might be one of the first customers!!:noway:  Seriously, I know Henry is a Maine Coon, so they tend to be big kitties.

    Gayla-
Yes, I am an only child. I have no regrets about anything I do or the amount of time I spend taking care of business where my parents are concerned. I have a feeling, it is going to be pretty lonely when the day comes that they are gone, but I don't dwell on that possibility.

    Jeffrey-
Congrats on the race. Sorry the job didn't work out.

    Marie-
Sorry you are in a heat wave, but I guess that is Texas in July, unfortunately. Hope you are keeping cool.

I am tired from running all over h3ll's half acre today, so g'night.

    Good Morning Everyone,

Well my husband has walking pneumonia and has to stay home and rest for a few days, which is a good thing. After spending the morning with Phil yesterday I don't think I will be going to hospital today either. He has such a bad attitude that it is too hard to be around him. He just doesn't seem to realize how lucky he is to be alive. It is now time for me to let go and let God and just live my life. His wife spent the night with him and in listening to her she is such an enabler I worry about both of their futures. I think I will try to go to a meeting today but also would just like to sit in the sun and just relax.

Welcome to all the newcomers and animal lovers!!! My little 75 pound Daisy who is only a year old is the love of our lives. She keeps us laughing and hopping with all her energy. I did manage to take her to the dog park one day and she loved it, but like Marie it is so hot here she prefers to stay indoors.

I really, really appreciate all your support and your kind words.

    Sandy

Sounds like you are handling the situation with Phil the best way you can. I pray that both he and your DIL can see they need a different way of handling the situation.:flowerforyou:

As for "little" Daisy. Maybe she needs a saddle??:noway:  Just kidding, but 75 lbs. is a lotta doggy!!

Hope your hubby is feeling better soon.

    Marie-
Sorry the weather has made you miss your family gathering. You are smart to know what you can handle and what you can't as far as the heat is concerned.

    Everyone, have a good day.

So sorry, Sandy, that things have not changed in the attitude department. Sounds like he needs a good spanking (coming from someone who doesn't believe in spanking)! I am so glad you have your support group. Sorry that Babe is not doing well. I hope a few days of rest will help. Enjoy Daisy! Nice that she makes you smile.

Marie -- Smart girl, staying inside although I am sure you are disappointed to miss the reunion.

    Take care everyone. Gayla

:flowerforyou: well, I didn't visit a lavender farm because it turns out that the only way you can visit them is to pay $15.00 for the tour so we walked over and then came back and went to the street fair instead where we bypassed all the food booths, admired all the booths at the street fair and bought nothing but got a great walk......we had our lavender ice cream in a little coffee/ice cream shop.......I had a child sized scoop of lemon lavender and Jake had a regular scoop of honey lavender and child size scoop of lavender cheesecake.....we walked a lot so that helped make up for the ice cream calories.

:flowerforyou: Marilyn, my young cat, Bernie, is part Maine Coon----he is big with big ears, big feet, and long hair and is a lover...your houseful of animals sounds wonderful

:flowerforyou: Jeffrey, congratulations on your race success and your resilience in the heat.....sorry about the job, but it probably wasn't the right one and the right one will be along soon.

:flowerforyou: Gayla, I hope your plants will recover from their brief period of neglect....our tomatoes have flowers and a few tiny tomatoes....the transplanted pumpkins, marigolds, and sunflowers look like they are thriving in their new bed.

:flowerforyou: Barb, I'm looking forward to walking with you on Friday morning.....I'll send more details later.

:flowerforyou: Marie, you are smart to stay indoors when in it's so hot......there's no family gathering that's worth more than your health

:flowerforyou: I went back to the lavender festival today because two of my friends were dancing with the Olympic Mountain Cloggers......the woman sitting next to me had her Bichon Frise in her lap and I thought about how my poodles and Sandy's Daisy would have loved to be able to go to the festival and sit in our laps........on the way home I was able to walk past the place with the lemon lavender ice cream and not go in and buy more

:flowerforyou: Sandy, someone told me that God doesnt' have any grandkids, we're all his kids so maybe the best thing is for you to stay home and look after your husband and let God look after Phil

:flowerforyou: Gigi, welcome to the group....can't wait to get to know more about you.

:flowerforyou: Birdie, how are you doing? your day trips sound like fun.....lots to do and none of the hassle about packing for overnight.

:flowerforyou: Beth how are the races and training going? are you staying cool?

Hi everyone from sunny Saskatchewan! I just came in from doing yard work for the past hour, many hours left to do. I am not sure if I ever told you that most of my roses did survive the winter and are not massively blooming but are blooming a bit. Strangely my hostas are really set back. A few plants did not seem to survive. Small problem, for sure. My chokecherries are nearly ready to pick and the birds are already enjoying them. I wish they would pick the high ones that I can't reach!! I hope to make some jelly which I haven't done for a few years. There is no excuse not to when I am retired! I know my family would appreciate it.
Neil just called me to tell me that he had told a girl that she looked 'handsome' and was worried that he had been rude. Thought it was cute. He has had a couple of brief rants in the last few days but I think it was related to being short on sleep and multiple seizures.

Gigi -- So glad you found your way back here. You are lucky to have your girls spread out, lots of places to visit. My boys all live close which makes me lucky as well. Keep up the exercise, you are doing great.

Barbie -- Sorry that you didn't get to see the lavender farm but glad you enjoyed the ice cream. That ice cream sounds heavenly, especially the lemon lavender.

Sandy -- Hope today is better and that you are able to enjoy a day at home. Sorry if I overstepped in my comment. I really do wish Phil the very best. I hope his Dr. is able to get across to him the seriousness of the situation.

Marie -- Have you had a break in the heat? Hi to Alice.

    Take care everyone. Gayla

Its is too hot here to even think about exercise.

How is everybody else doing. Barbiecat enjoying that ice cream. Never heard of lavender ice cream. But wouldn't mind trying it. I have been drinking lots of tea
