Barbie: Nancy Drew for grownups...? I loved Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys! What is the name of the series with the small town heroine? I'd love to look it up.
I've read many series with heroines in small towns---J.A. Jance's books about JoAnna Brady, JoAnn Fluke's books about Hannah the cookie maker, Diane Mott Davidson's books about Goldie the Caterer, Maggie Sefton's books about knitters, there are lots of others you can find on "Cozy Mysteries"

Janetr~Once I got a rash at the resort, and I think it was from all the spraying for bugs, or the stuff they put on the lawns to keep them green. Either that or the chemicals in the hot tub, or maybe the sun. It was a week of raised heated rash, but I did have some aloe spray for burns and that helped. I empathize with youuu!!

Connie & KJLaMore: I have been using Bragg Organic Ufiltered Apple Cider Vinegar to make salad dressing because of a recommendation from Mary from MN. This vinegar has the 'Mother' in it. I had been taking a medication for acid reflux for years that has been linked to causing Alzheimers and I needed to stop that medicine. The vinegar with the 'mother' helps to relieve my acid reflux situation. I won't say it is perfect, but it is doing well enough to keep me happy and using it. The label recommends drinking the vinegar diluted with water, and honey added if desired on a daily basis. The recipe is 1-2 tsp of vinegar in 8 oz of purified water. (The recipe is on the label.) I've used it as a morning drink but it isn't my favorite so, I make salad dressing using the unfiltered vinegar & honey plus other ingredients instead, and have been getting along much better than I expected. I hope this is helpful. :flowerforyou:
Janetr: Thank you for sharing the beautiful photo of Missouri.
I have a city committee meeting this evening & just finished reviewing my packet. I'll be making myself a salad for dinner. DH prefers something else. he doesn't handle raw salad greens very well. Poor man.

Heather posted a quote similar to this that I wanted to use, but I couldn't recall it quite right. I went online and found this one.
"So many of us believe in perfection, which ruins everything else, because the perfect is not only the enemy of the good; it's also the enemy of the realistic, the possible and the fun."2 -
Did an hour on the treadmill where I ran for 1 minute then did squats for 30 seconds. We have a Newcomer general meeting tomorrow so that plan is to do The Firm's Cardio Overdrive DVD. This is the one I got for free from Total Fitness.
After exercising went to Office Max (or was it Office Depot -- I don't know) then Hamricks.
They had some sneakers on sale, but the ones that I liked in the ad I couldn't find in the store. Got one other pair which I'll wear tomorrow and see how they do. Since I'll only wear them in the house, if they don't work out I'll just return them.
Warning: rant below
I am sending a DVD to this one gal in exchange for one of hers. It's a 5 DVD set. Vince saw it. Well, I bought a padded envelope and when I got it home, Vince says "that bubble wrap isn't strong enough, I would have put it in a box. Well, I put add'l bubble wrap around it, Vince asked me "did you tape it". Like that would really make that much of a difference? I did tape the very bottom so I just said "yes".
Oh, I got his father's yearbooks, contacted his college and they'd like them, now Vince tells me he wants me to include a letter telling them what it is. Can't they see by opening the package? I realize this is hard for Vince since it's his father's so I'm not saying anything, just saying it here. Then the label I made wasn't right, the font should be a different size, etc etc. Like it won't get there if the font is the wrong size? Then I had a picture of a reunion that I was going to enclose, Vince said "what if I want to keep it for my father". It's not like we know any of the other people in the picture. There's something on the back that identifies who is in the picture so I said "well, I just thought the college might find that interesting, how people have changed". I know this is hard for Vince, but really....his father has been dead over 10 years. Something like this should have been done years ago.
Done...I just don't want to say anything to Vince. So I'm saying it to you.
Penny Jean - welcome. What did you mean by logging daily and weekly?
Lisa - that was very nice of Corey's old boss. Seems he's starting to realize exactly what he's missing.
Here's an article about the Newcomers: http://www.hickoryrecord.com/news/local-organization-works-to-help-newcomers-acclimate-to-community/article_d25552a8-021d-5026-94
Vince has shooting with the Newcomers tonight so I got my dinner ready.
To all those who need encouragement: As they say "just DO IT"
Cheri - yea for your son (and you)
Heather - **clapping for you**. Which spiralizer did you get. I did the same thing...went to Amazon and was bowled over at the price since I don't know how much I'd use it. It's probably worth it if you use it a lot, but since I've never used one, I don't know how much I'd use it. I'm thinking that I'll go to Bed Bath and Beyond and see what they have. I can use my 20% off coupon there.
Made more chocolate bran muffins today. I've found that lately I have 1/2 of one in the morning and that helps me drink my water. Plus, it's something in my stomach for exercising.
caNwa - I don't know about apple cider vinegar for weight loss. It probably reduces you desire to eat, tho. I know when I have plain vinegar in my salad, it helps reduce my desire to eat more. As for health benefits, I'm skeptical, but it certainly can't hurt. It's not like it's some item made in a lab. I'd give it a try, but wouldn't put any money on it.
KJ - those kids are just precious. thanks for sharing.
Went in my pool for a bit. How I've missed this. Lenora - do you get these worms in your pool? We get them, I think they come out in the evening. They usually are in the shallow end of the pool. I just take them out and throw them over the fence. I THINK that they're dead.
Holly - welcome. Great loss! What an inspiration you are
Karen in VA - I'd heard about putting the smiley face in the shoes, also,
Maryann - hope Toby gets better fast and that you find out the cause of the tumor.
Re - to find pants, if I were you, I'd go to Goodwill. Pretty soon you'll be needing a smaller size, so why waste a lot of money?
AHHHH - Vince deleted DWTS last night. And I really wanted to see it. I understand there was some sort of disturbance.

Hi all: Lovely day today. I was told we are currently is our second, short growing season and I believe that is true. Weeds especially are growing like crazy so I spent some time spraying and putting down weed and feed. I would like to find something that would kill the weeds but not the grass in the pastures. Right now it seems as if they are mostly buttercups and suddenly blackberries that we dug out last year are coming back like crazy. I love all of the reading suggestions. I too read mostly for entertainment.
Pip - Lovely testament to Kirby.
KJ - Love the picture of the littles. Have to love their independence too.

We are powerful! Having a support system is awesome! This week as been quite easy all considering.
~logged my food and exercise daily
~ate pretty simply no elaborate meals that make me tired thinking about fixing them.
~Went to sleep at 9-9:30 pm nightly
~Up before 8 am in the mornings, (except on Saturday when I got up at 9 am
~exercised Thur 40 min/602 calories/swam laps
Friday 40 min/598 calories/swam laps
off Sat/Sun
Mon 60 min/433 calories/swim class
Tuesday 35 min/527 calories/swam laps
I should probably start walking on the weekends, so I am not sore after my Monday class. I am proud of myself though!
My DIL contacted me on FB and they are coming up Oct 23rd and stay until Nov 2nd! I told her I can't wait!! I shall be getting out the fake pre-lit Christmas tree and decorate it with apples (my husband has ALWAYS wanted those fake apples put on but there was never room), and maybe some fake fishing worms for the Halloween effect. Apples and worms go together right? I would like to put gummy worms but the ants would have a field day with that. (Knock on wood) we haven't had any for quite some time. My elderly neighbor can't see really well and I think all the ants are over at her place I'm afraid. I have gone thru my Christmas decorations and separated them all out to each of the boys. (That was because we were supposed to be RV'ers after teen goes in the Navy). It is just as well, if they can make it home they can either bring them to decorate the tree we have, or put it on their own trees. I wish my mother had done that. I would've liked to have gotten some of our decorations we had as children. I have 3 really old bulbs from my MIL and so I gave each of the boys one. I also have some tatted lace "snowflakes" that my paternal grandmother did, so I gave them to my DIL. This year is the year of giving.
So with them coming to visit, I want to look my best, so I have their arrival dates on the refrigerator. Motivation comes in all ways!
Sadly my eldest son called and said he probably wouldn't be able to get off his ship for those dates. I told him that Christmas will be whenever he can make it down. With the Navy, holidays can be on whatever date they choose. That is how life works. I told him not to worry, but one thing my husband and I did discuss one day was that it would be cool to live up where he is at Widbey Island, in Washington state. That his duplex was huge and maybe just maybe, we could just help with rent and live in one of the rooms he has. He is living in a 3 bedroom, with a garage, for $1050 a month. Not too shabby! We pay $850 for a 2 bedroom and its really small. Our kitchen/dining room/and living room could fit in his living room alone! I said that we could keep our stuff, he would have someone bringing in $500 for rent, we could use the military commissary and NEX up there, and he would probably get a great meal cooked by MOM now and then. But the idea of moving in with her son is strange, and definitely not the norm. He said we could do that, but he would have to check with his room mate. I am thinking, "oh the room mate that doesn't have a job and doesn't pay into the bills, except to buy food now and then??" I told him, "oh he would not be living with you, if we did". I told him it was only a whim we had, but knowing he was gung-ho about it, is a positive thing. It's nice to have options, for sure. Only downside is that its about 5 hrs from OHSU. So traveling there every 4 months would be hellish.
Tomorrow is TOPS meeting (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) and I hope to have a loss. If not, than their scale is all crazy! I am currently about 5 lbs down, (by my scale).
Be good and know you all all cared about by this gal!
Pip~ post the youtube vid of the ride. I would love to watch it!!! Great job in completion, you guys are amazin!!!

Hi Gals,
Barbie – I have read some of those cozy mysteries and loved them.. There was a baker/caterer in Colorado that I loved, can’t remember the name.
Reading: I read everything except the soft porn – my mom reads and passes over the historical romances, I read non-fiction, fiction, teen… lots of folks in my world share books around.. But I did not hear about the forth “girl…” book I saw the movie of the first one the Swedish version, it was a good discussion as a friend and I brought our 18 year boys (her son, my god son) and sat in front of a book club that came together, we all ended up at a coffee shop to continue our discussion… I will look up the 4th one. Thanks for the lead KJ
So there is a series The Elm Creek Quilts by Jennifer Chiaverini that I would recommend to all, even though it is set at a Quilt store and quilting camp it is really about a group of women – strangers brought together because they had quilting in common and building a wonderful supportive friendship. (sounds like us!)
So the last book I read (finished a couple of days ago) was The River of Doubt by Candice Millard. It is non-fiction and is about the trip Theodore Roosevelt took down The River of Doubt in the Amazon. It is detail filled (maybe a bit much at times) but I really liked it. I knew little about Teddy Roosevelt, and even less about the Amazon, it was really educational yet a good story, and not written like a text book or an interview, but a bit over detailed historical fiction. I would give it an 8 on a 1-10 scale.
September Goals:

Good evening Ladies!
I really miss checking in with you regularly, it kept me on track. I have been keeping up with all of you though. My thoughts, prayers and cheering are always directed your way.
I am planning to visit my mother in NJ this weekend. I haven't been there since the trip in April when I had to be towed back to Massachusetts. My mother is 89, has severe dementia and is living in a nursing home. I haven't been able to visit until now because of my new work schedule which has me working most weekends. I did manage to string 3 days off,so off to NJ I go, and in a rental car.
I tried to increase my exercise and have been rewarded with an aching body. My elbow is yelling at me today, even when not in use. My lower back is also aching, I have not been in this much pain in a long time. I really don't know what is going on, haven't swung the kettle bell in over a week to see if that was the cause. Not happy.
Trying to stop mindless eating, it has become a struggle. Tonight I am sipping a cup of peppermint tea, with gelatin, in an effort to help my joints and curb my appetite.
Weight is creeping back up. Yikes!!! HELP!!!
Enough to whining...

Barbie: Thanks for the author names. I found a site called cozy-mystery.com. I'll see if I can find some ebooks at my library to try out.
Unfortunately I don't have a Kitchen Aid and you're right Heather the attachment is very expensive, mind you so is the mixer. I thought about buying one of the handheld, drawer size ones from Amazon but thought I may have issues with it because of my carpal tunnel and tendonitis. I ended up buying one made by Starfrit that was on sale for $21 at London Drugs. It has a hand crank and looks like it will be easy to use. Now I just have to get myself a cookbook apparently spiralizing takes practice. I put a hold on the Inspirialize book at the library so hopefully I'll get it soon.

Chris- so nice to see you posting! Have a great visit with your mom. My mom has dementia too, but I still enjoy seeing and visiting with her when I can. Elbow and back should not be from the Kettlebell unless your form is off. When the elbow and back calm down use a lighter weight and concentrate on your form and let me know how it feels.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Ladies,
Mary, don’t get such big muscles that you walk like one of those ape men that can’t put their arms at their sides. Wow you are lifting some heavy weights. I’m so impressed!!!
MicheleNC, do you mean Vince isn’t interested in going shopping for a wedding gown???? What is wrong with him? LOL I agree that is a long drive for a dinner. You can invite them to your house for a belated BD dinner and see if they come.
PennyJean, welcome. We are always happy to have newbies to our little family. This is a great place for support so come often. Please tell us a little about yourself to help us get to know you. We also appreciate it when you sign each post with the name you want to be called and a location, general or specific.
Lisa, glad your DH had a good first day and likes the job.
NYKaren, glad your DH is looking ahead now that the nest is empty.
Cheri, glad the apartment for your DS is working out. When will he be moving? I think you told us when he starts the job there but I do have an occasional “senior moment”. Lol
Katla, that is cute that you and your dog get to the beauty shop on the same day. I’ll bet you just go struttin’ around with your new dos.
KJ, great picture. It takes such a special person to care for young children. I love the shoes on the wrong feet and would have never noticed. Lol
Katla, love the post from FB. I’ve been in Sane a few times myself.
Re, congrats on the loss. Keep up the good work and you will get there.
Janetr, beautiful sight from your front steps.
MicheleNC, the disturbance on DWTS didn’t really show it on the show. Most of it was on GMA this morning with a couple of guys going up to Brian L calling him a “liar”. Then the security guards took them down. There was no contact with the dancers. On the show, the camera just went to Carryanne and not on what was happening.
to any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
Made it to line dancing this afternoon and unfortunately my hip really bothers me when I’m dancing. It has been for quite some time and the past three weeks I’ve been sitting down to rest when it begins to hurt. I had hoped that would help but it didn’t so much. The funny thing is, it only hurts when I’m line dancing and no other time. I love the dancing but may consider stopping it and going to the gym on that day. Will give it some thought. I did dance enough that I’m tired so it’s off to bed for me.
Sending love and good thoughts to all of you and I hope you all have a Happy and Healthy Day!
Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.
I Love you,

Charleen and Tracey – Our last dog was an outside dog, JRT, she was not afraid of anything! An elephant could walk through the yard, and, she’d go out barking at it to run it off. I was in my computer area and heard her barking up a storm. DH had looked out the front door and saw 14 pair of red eyes! Knew it was coyotes; so he told me to try to get her inside to ‘shut her up’. Well, she did not come when called; and, a few moments later I heard a ‘yelping’ sound and I came in crying and telling DH that I thought the coyotes had gotten Shorty. He came running and we walked out into the pines to see if we could find her. We heard the yelping again and he turned and said, ‘that’s a deer’; let’s go back to the house’. When we got back to the house I saw Shorty hiding behind the bush that is on the side of the steps from our deck. She was shaking like crazy. She came inside without any hesitation and stayed the night. She was getting much older and going blind and deaf; but, she did know enough not to bark at them anymore that night.
We took Cracker with us to LA, because we did not want the bill of boarding her 14 days; it was gator season out there and whenever the inside dogs went out, we watched them carefully. Lily slept inside the entire time as did Buck and Cracker; but, during the day, they wanted to be ‘outside’ … weather was beautiful. But, we did not see any gators. Gator season opened the Wednesday after we left. Not the safest sport to do, much better to have someone go with you. Wonder if they ever caught that 10+ foot gator? Elusive little booger! Saw him all the time, before gator season. They must be like the deer; have a calendar somewhere to tell them to 'hide' ... "It's hunting season!"
Becky and Cheri – I was surgically put into menopause at the age of 35; they tried me on hormones and I just could not tolerate them. The week of being off them, I wanted to ‘kill’ anything that moved; they put me on them every day; but, I still had moments I wanted to 'kill' something. Finally, I told my OB/GYN that I wanted to come off them completely or else my marriage would suffer. Did that, no problems. Now that I am 65 I can’t take being ‘cold’. When I go into town for any reason my BF picks me up and takes me to her house to stay until DH and DOS can come by and pick me up. She turned the air ‘up’ so it would not come on. WRONG! Damn, she could hang meat in her place with no problems. She must have good insulation or something or else she must pay a small fortune to keep it that cold. I'm use to having our air set on 74° or 75°. I bet it was 60º in there the entire time I was there (from lunchtime on). I finally started looking around for a blanket. I know she has a big red and white blanket; but, could not find it. I finally went to her bedroom and found an afghan. I still was cold. I definitely cannot stand the heat. I go outside at this time of the year and within 10 minutes my face is beet red and I am ready to come back inside. I can handle being in the pool for as long as 2 hours; but, working in my flower bed is pretty much out of the question. It’s either do it first thing in the morning … or not at all. I’ve decided that until DH gets that door hung on my glassed-in porch and we have a way to regulate the temperature, I am wasting my money on flowers or plants. Today my DOS said that the carpenter is so snowed under at one job, they want it finished by the beginning of hunting season (10/1) that I figured that asking DH about the door was pointless. But, I am ready to finish it up and start enjoying it. I do, occasionally, have sudden changes in temperature … even more so now that I am 65. If I can keep my feet warm, then I don’t get cold; but, when they get hot (from wearing socks) I can’t cool off. No working thermostat, it seems. One time they test my thyroid, it is low and they change the dosage of meds; next time it is high and they change it again. I no longer throw the old meds out because 2 months from now, I might be back on the old dosage.
KJLaMore – It is obvious the little girl on the right has the wrong shoes on her feet; but, hard to tell about the little boy on left because his feet are crossed.
When I was growing up we were allowed to dress ourselves and to an extent pick out our own clothes (out of maybe 3 choices). Thankfully, I did not have to wear ‘hats’ at Easter, not that my Mother could have ever gotten one for me to wear. My DMS remembers the ‘last’ time she wore a hat and exactly what it looked like, I remember it, too! Make fun of her all the time. She cried that year because another of her friends told her that she was not going to wear one that year (but she did) and DMS had to wear that little yellow straw beret with a bit of netting over her face and a feather sticking out of the top of it. Blackmail pictures. I am surprised that my OS cannot remember the ‘red’ Jackie Kennedy hat she wore all the time since she was a senior in HS. Her husband tells her, "dammit … that was the first thing you put on, on Sunday mornings, you put your make-up on, in that red hat’ and a robe; and you say you can't remember it?" She still claims to ‘not remember it’. Senior Moment all the way around that one. LOL! When each of us got engaged; and, brought our fiancés home; we would have them sit through and suffer watching slides of the ‘bride in the family’ growing up. My OS grew 12” one year in school and was taller than most of the kids in class, including the boys; but, that is all she grew, she had gotten to the height she would be for the rest of her life. She towered over the others in the class.
DJ – One of my sisters is ‘highly’ offended if someone that is an ‘adult’ woman gets called ‘girl’. GEE, I could not care less. It is a phrase that most people us. The girls came over will tick her off. She is a ‘woman’. No, she is ‘female’ and ‘girl’ is perfectly good description. Old girl! Sounds better than ‘old lady’! Or even ‘old woman’. I still refer to my grown sons as my ‘boys’. They’ll be my children for the rest of MY life; and, I will be their Mother all of theirs.
Katla – Glad that your DH is doing better since going off one of his meds. I take a lot of medications and most of them I will never be able to come off. Like my seizure meds or my meds for bipolar disorder. So far the others are not that important. I take a lot of vitamins and OTC supplements as directed by my MD. Some are huge! So I usually take them in two gulps. My DH gets upset if I throw them all back at the same time.
Heather – My balance suxs to say the least. I know that even cold stone sober; I’d never be able to pass a ‘field sobriety test’; they might as well, just take me in and draw blood. But, since I drink so rarely, so little … I don’t think I will be asked to do one. My GYN did one on me because I have started having bad tremors in my hands and I think I fell off to one side or the other trying to walk to his nurse across the room with one foot directly in front of the other. Since I am already an established patient of the Neurologists in town, was necessary for a MD referral; but, it will be 12/15 (or about then) when my regular appointment is; but, they have put me on the ‘call list’.
Becca – My Mother would say that she was ‘allergic’ to the sun; because being a “Ginger” she would break out in whelps if she got out in the sun, unprotected. She’d sit under the covered balcony; but, still got sun from the reflection off the ocean. I can remember one year her getting so sick she had to be taken to the hospital because of it. I have skin like my Daddy did. Fairly fair during winter; but, the first time out in the sun, might burn a little; but, after that got very, very dark. I’m pretty tan now from working out in the pool; but, still about 5 shades lighter than I was in HS. GYN froze off a few places on my back, not pre-cancerous or anything; just irritating because if my back itched and I scratched it, I would tear them up. We laughed about growing up in a time of just putting baby oil on and staying out all day in the sun. I was a lifeguard at the city pool for 3 years and had to tolerate the sun, but, I knew he was actually ‘fussing’ at me about it.
Michele in NC – Since my son keeps the pool up I don’t notice what’s in it, other than when it is a day before of his vacuuming it out. We get a lot of pine straw in it, which blocks the filter, so I open it up the first time around and empty it. There have been a few times when I step into it and it is slippery. I hate that, so I will spend my times using the brush to clean the sides and bottom and that is my workout. The worst things I have to deal with are the gnats and the horse flies. Usually, they don’t bother me; they don’t like the taste of my skin because of the medications. Horse flies love my DOS, so he hates getting out in the pool. I wear a cap and sunglasses that wrap around, so that the gnats can’t get to my eyes. Will put a frozen bottle of water in the pool and drink it when it starts melting. I think it is about too cool to get in it now unless the sun is out and hot.
It might be something in the form of a larvae and probably falling in the water off a bush or tree, they drown. I am not so sure I would be worried about them, the chemicals probably kill them off anyway. The worst thing we had this summer were the wasps that would light on the ladder and fly around it; but, there were not any nests anywhere. It’s like they finally decided they could stand on the ladder and drink the water in the grooves. I’ve been stung more than once this year by them.
Not having a good time with acronyms … what is DWTS? Probably something simple but I just can’t wrap my head around it.
Becca – DH has mowed around the area, so I should start walking it again. Got to remember to carry a big stick in the event I walk up on a snake. EEEWWWW!!!! I would be ‘walking on air’ if I did. They’ll soon be going underground and I will need to start wearing long pants, too. It takes me about an hour to walk around the perimeter of where he mows. I’ve gone back and walked on the gas line; but, they are about to start construction on the Sable Gas line … which has caused a LOT of hoopla in counties south and east of us. There is already a gas line back there and they are following it, so we counter offered their settlement offer and they had no problem paying it. They just built a huge area near the highway from Dawson to Leesburg; and, they have some heavy duty expensive big equipment to start working on it. We had the timber cut; because that was 'ok' with them, would keep them from having to do it themselves any way. DH and DOS cut up a lot of it for 'firewood'; probably enough to last both of us 3 years or so. They’ve already marked the existing line with yellow flags, so we expect they will start working after the first of the year. At least on our property they don’t have any taps, and their ‘staging area’ is taken off the other end of the tract of land. Guys are hoping they will NOT be doing it through hunting season or before. I guess we’ll see.
I’d probably have little problem with the worms for the tree, just raid my DH’s fishing and tackle box. I used to hide the deer racks in my tree to get them off the mantle, so I could put up my Manger scene. This last year, I threaded lights through the macramé tree my Mother made; and, now I will never put up another tree. This fits right over our 2nd bedroom door and plugs in right beside it. It has 8 big brass bells on the ends of the bars that run through it. I took a picture of it and sent it to my sisters, who both said, ‘oh, send me the tree’. WRONG! Not gonna happen.
DH is trying to talk his brother into moving to Gainesville, FL while his granddaughter and his grandson-in-law are down there. He starts medical school this Fall and cannot have an outside job; and she is teaching and expecting a baby around Thanksgiving. He could buy a duplex and let them live rent free of low rent and help keep the baby, if only he would. He is so set in his ways he probably won’t even consider it. It'd make it easier for DOS to take over the business, other than having to find a 'crew'; then maybe DH will stay home and relax. He'll 'never' stop working, at something. But, he is nearly 75 and getting very tired or working like he does. It's hard work to paint houses outside in this heat. Not sure that DOS really wants to take over his Dad's business; but, it has been a comfortable living for us and we sent one of them off out-of-state to college. DOS married very young, and we could not get him to move back home and go to college at night. Now he regrets it. But, that was his decision, not ours.

KetoneKaren - I hurt my DDnL#2's feelings by something I said that I should have thought better of, and, didn't. I 'thought' I was 'helping'; but, the timing was wrong. So I came home this afternoon and cried until DH asked me why ... and I could not tell him. Did not want to hear him fussing at me about doing it. I apologized and told her that I had been insensitive to what all she was going through and hoped that I would not do it again. That is about all I can do. She admitted that her response sounded harsh; and, it probably would have been taken on my end differently, if we had been face-to-face. Mainly, because I had asked her some pretty pointed questions when we were out there and we were having a good conversation. Now, I know what she is faced with. It's doesn't seem 'fair'; but, as my Mother used to say, "Life's not fair ... the fair is where the bus driver will take you if you pay the fare to get there." Just one of those 'open mouth, insert foot' situations. I'd have never, ever said something to purposefully hurt her (or anybody); but, I tend to 'just say things without thinking first' sometimes and this was one of those times.

Becca, Kim thanks for thinking of me. The rash is dramatically improved by tonight. Steroids work wonders for me but I hate how they make me all tied up in knots inside. Worth it tho to get this cleared up. Have to admit I was becoming concerned.
Katla, I actually have thot of you several times on the trip. I've just thoroughly enjoyed the scenery, the calm and quiet, pretty wild flowers a long the road and thot, this is what Katla means by " finding something to enjoy every day".

DJ- Lol! The difference between men and women is the testosterone. Also there are ways to lift that cause hypertrophy, enlarged muscles. The Kettlebell and lifting heavy makes women tight and compact. They don't cause hypertrophy. No gorilla arms for me!
