Karen in VA: We may have just crossed each other at Denver International Airport. I landed there at 9 PM on the the 11th.
Where else in the world can you be walking through Venetian inspired architecture, then go outside and be facing the Eiffel Tower? Las Vegas! Had a wonderful weekend there. Yes, there was some work, but afterwards, I did alot of walking, swimming and sightseeing. It's such a unique city, and I really got such a kick out of enjoying it without doing and gambling or drinking. Some photos below. One from Caesars Palace Forum Shops and one on the Strip at night. Photos don't do them justice.
Still have to catch up on reading the last 4 pages here, but it's past my bedtime, so I'm off to land of nod.

Chris in MA: Celery is great to munch. It takes more calories to digest than it contains, is crunchy, and you can eat a lot of it without adding a bunch of calories to your day. (Unless you coat it with dip.) The peppermint tea is a great idea.
Rori: I agree with Mary. You look fantastic. I'm glad that you're having fun. :bigsmile:
Today has been a good day. I had a great chat with my daughter on the phone & via text. I'm looking forward to going to see her in October for the birth of baby #3. We've started talking about dates but have not made a specific plan yet. I'm looking forward to yoga tomorrow. I hope that DH will go to the gym with me.

Katla- I'm so excited for you! It will be great welcoming your DD's 3rd baby into the world! Even though DH and I aren't really welcome we are going to be visiting his twin DGD's October 14&15. We are getting very excited. They are now 4 months old. For perspective the giraffes are only 10" long. I sent them to them in August.

Morning! Came home last nite to find DH had repaired the panel on the stove, woohoo (a savings of over $400 )
Had my first nite of insomnia due to worry over my work, ah well. I still notice that I look forward to going to work every morning- the scary worries are left to my subconscious --my waking time can only focus and tackle one problem at a time.
Going to read a new habit book once I find it at the library called...smarter, faster. Uh I forget the title lol, .....anyway I read an excerpt and tried one idea about tackling a to do list---
Instead of doing the easiest, littlest items on your list, have an overarching goal and tackle the hardest item on the list! Tried that yesterday and I thought it went well--I can be a procrastinator on tackling the big tough to dos
Also, I clean,declutter or adjust something in the house for only 3 minutes before I leave for work--that is pretty painless and has made me happy!!

Lenora Wouldn't it be great if we all had better filters? That way we would all be more tactful. Although sometimes being blunt is necessary, I believe in diplomacy for most situations, even to the point of just keeping my mouth shut. Sometimes I say the wrong thing anyway. I usually feel worse than the person I am apologizing to! Insight is certainly valuable - but is often after the fact. We can't unsay things; once spoken, those utterances are out in the universe. Ugh.
Rori Oh darn it, I have no idea if you would have had time to chat at the airport, but a planned visit with my brother in Denver fell through because he had to take some pain meds due to an injured back and begged off. So I was at the airport quite early and doing nothing interesting. That would have been so fun to chat for a few minutes or longer! Poop! It was such a whirlwind visit, but an airport rendezvous would have worked out so well and I would have loved it!

Good morning ladies! Happy Wednesday! DOS has his car in the shop this week and has three job interviews, so DYS drove out to his place and bring him back here, last night, so that he can use one of our cars. So, I had all three of my guys home for dinner. DYS helped me make some sesame chicken and rice and we scooped out a couple of pineapples to use as bowls. The boys were very impressed! I make this meal many times and never got such rave reviews. I guess presentation is EVERYTHING!

NYKAREN-Smarter, faster, better- The Secrets of Being Productive! I heard about this book and I had to laugh at myself, because reading is one of those things that I love to do to put off doing what I need to do.
Mary- the babies are adorable! Did you make the giraffes? I hope you have a wonderful time with them!
Chris- So nice to hear from you! You are not alone with your up and down weight gains and losses. Right there with you!
Rori-You look gorgeous! I have always thought it would be fun to hit Las Vegas if only to visit all of the mini-cities and landmarks! Fun trip?
Janet- The LIW Museum?! Woo-hoo! That has always been one of those places I want to visit before I die. I spent the majority of my childhood wishing I was Laura Ingalls. See if you can get some pictures!

I just put this book on hold at the library: Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown.
Summary:Discusses a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so you can make the highest possible contribution towards the things that really matter.
It speaks to my quest of a simpler less cluttered life of late.

Katla~ We belong to the Seaside Aquatics Center. It has a weight room in the back there that my husband used to like but not so much now since they got all new equipment. So sadly we will end our membership in October. On the great side, we are really close to the KOA camp near Fort Stevens, and that is free to local seniors, so we will go there. It isn't a lap pool, but a kidney shaped pool. I will buy those styrofoam barbells, and maybe a noodle and do my aerobics there. They have a great hot tub, so that will be nice.

Ohh I made myself two yogurt parfaits, and they look yummy. I will eat one this morning after I weigh in at TOPS.
1 cup Tillamook greek old-fashioned vanilla yogurt
1 T. walnuts
1 T. cranberries
1 T. diced prunes
1/4 cup of Bob's Red Mill granola.
I layered two layers in a small mason jar of above ingredients. What helps me is that I put most of my ingredients on a plate in piles and then just scoop up when I layer. Using a small spoon with a long handle helps. Tapping down each layer will make the granola and fruit pieces soften a bit, which makes it all kind of chewy, which I like. I do these the night before, so then all I have to do is grab them.

Bull$#*T - hit the wrong button before I had 'cut' my WWP postings over to this site and lost everything. Probably not the least bit important. Probably for the best.
KetoneKaren - Yeah, I guess my 'filter' has been punched full of holes, due to dealing with DDnL#1, who has NO filter'. DDnL#2's filter isn't one that ever needs to have its buttons pushed, pulled and/or twisted. She laid DDnL#1 low because of something she had texted her; and then DDnL#1 called DYS to '*kitten*' that DDnL#2 had not even responded to her text messages. She wrote her back, after DYS told her to send it; and, both have said they will never look at her the same way since the things she posts on FB are so negative. DYS has gotten to the point he is tired of DOS's 'negativity' as well; although he understands where it is coming from. I'm tired of it, too; but, he says 'he loves her' and she is the one who seems to be 'trying to make trouble' at every twist and turn. We try to just not be around for her to say or do something we don't like. Like saying or doing something that she will, after we leave, twist and turn and say to DOS that she 'feels' that we 'don't love her'; and then go post it all over FB to get everybody else's comments about what she has posted. She's brought this upon herself. At this point, I am finding it hard to even 'like' my DDnL#1.
I absolutely 'think' that my DYS has found the "Number 10" he always wanted. She is exactly the one I would have picked out, if I had been 'interviewing women as a potential wife' for him. They feed off one another, in a good way; and her daughter loves my DYS as much. She understands the difference between parents and step-parents. A few weeks ago, she told her mother that she knew her Daddy loves her; but, between DYS and her step-mom ... she loved DYS more than 'liking' the step-mom. Hope that it continues and that she won't get to that stage where she tries playing one set of parents against the other. DYS will not let her get away with a lot. He's pretty 'hard' on her; but, he tells her 'why' he does the things he does. Like Buck going into their room, because she has not bothered to let him out. When their bedroom door got left over, he grabbed him up, stuck his nose into it so far that to get it off, dog would have had to 'lick it off', and then threw him outside. When DGD#4 got upset about it; he explained to her that she had to 'catch him in the act', do something like shoving his nose in it, and put him out in the yard'. He would soon associate one act with the other; but, one had to be consistent in what they do when something like that happens. You can't punish them hours later. Keep the door 'shut'. PERIOD, the END! Lily can stay inside all night and not have to be taken outside. Cracker can be crated all day and she will hold it. Of course, when we come in the door is left open because we know the first thing she's going to do when the crate is opened is make a beeline to the door.
As soon as all that occurred, Cracker came out of our bedroom, where she ran to when DYS was teaching this lesson to DGD#4 and Buck. She looked like she had swallowed the canary; and I went in and she had peed in our room, I went out, grabbed her up, stuck her nose in it, and put her outside, too. Then I went back to bedroom with a wet rag and scrubbed it, then dried it. I don't want to have to board Cracker for 9 or 10 days @$15 a day. We are out there; and, I don't want her kept inside a crate here when there would not be someone here to let her out a couple of times a day. We let her out a lot anyway, she enjoys her exercise.
This week has been a lot of lessons being learned. I'll just sit back and let the dust settle on everything ... I've done what I needed to do and that was send a sincere apology and let it be ... I'm sure the next time I heard from DDnL#2 will be to tell us that Granny has died. Got the same thing going on with DDnL#1 - her Grannie is also dying.
At least DDnL#1 seems to like her 'new' job; said there has been a couple of days of sheer boredom. Next Monday she travels up to the Police Academy to get some training and 2 weeks later both she and her boss go back more some 'certification' for a couple of days.
Being a step-mother myself ... I have tried telling DDnL#1 to 'stop saying derogatorythings about DOGD's mother' no matter 'how she feels or thinks' ... she is STILL her biological parent; and, one day they might learn to be able to be around one another (although after what she's done); that chance is highly improbable. She brags that DOGD thinks more of her as a 'mother' than she does her own; but, ... she still does not like her biological mother to be 'degraded'. Even 'if' she might deserve it. Sort of like 'she's MY mother, I can criticize her; but don't you do it'! I never said things about my DH's 'ex'; wasn't my place. When I was directly asked why they had gotten a divorce; I told her that was a question for them, I wasn't around when they got the divorce and it wasn't my place to say anything. She then told me that I really did not have to because her 'aunt' (mother's sister) had already done so. Now we're 'out of the picture' and the 'mother' is back in it. You never know how people will 'feel' or 'think' 10 or 15 years down the road.
Best to 'try' to keep lines of communication 'open'. Just hoping that DDnL#2 still has espect for me, since she and my DYS are now married. I'd never tell her to do this or that. They make their decisions. Don't know what is going to happen at Thanksgiving. DYS comes home; last year she came with him (or a couple of days later) and told her 'ex' that now she is married, they'd have to be more agreeable about 'extended' holidays or visitation days. DYS and her step-mom have the same birthday; so she celebrated DYS's birthday with us; and, then went to her Dad's a day early so they could go celebrate her step-mom's birthday with her parents - at the beach. Last long holiday before school starts back. Just wish they were closer than 9 hours! But, that will never happen ... not EVER and I have to accept that as well.

Hello all!
I had a lovely lunch with my friend down in Portsmouth. We sat under a big umbrella at a fish restaurant and the sun shone. Just like being in the South of France! I had a small starter of Thai red curry mussels (didn't drink the soup) and followed that with six oysters. No bread. I did eat two of my friend's fries. Finished with an espresso. I had a large glass of white wine. Docked myself 600 calories for the meal.
Then we wandered around the shops. I was looking for something for DH to give me for my upcoming birthday. Maybe some posh ankle boots or a lovely new purse, but I didn't see anything that "sparked joy". :laugh: We are going out together tomorrow, but if we don't see anything we can save up the purchase until Spain. We always get each other small surprises (4or5) to open on the day, but normally the big purchase we have some input on. I've bought DH a cricket novel as one of his surprises, but I don't know what he wants for his main present. Last year I got him cricket parking. :laugh:
Great British Bake Off tonight. Then a detective series I like. Good night. :bigsmile:

Michele, there wasn't any altercation actually shown on DWTS, just the response of the people. Carrie Anne was saying that it had to stop, the look on Ryan and his dancer Cheryl Burke was what showed it the most. Cheryl looked really scared for quite a while. I am afraid no one is going to give Ryan a chance at all. The overall hatred of him and what is did is pretty intense.

My name is Lori, truthfully. I have used the MFP app before and loved it and I am back to it again. I am looking for friends to share happy times with, success during the week, and just to chat with. When I used this app before, I was able to use the food list when I wasn't sure on the calorie amount, etc. and of course, it was an android that I had before. Now, I have an iPhone and I cannot figure out how to find the food list! I lived by the food list and I so need it back again! I have 9 weeks to lose at least 20 pounds in and I plan on being completely truthful and faithful. Help! I cannot afford to pay for the premium in this app due to being of low income. Please help!

I crashed on my bike on Sunday. Good news is that nothing besides my skin and a tooth is broken and I will heal. Left hand is in a splint (I'm left handed). My bike will be ok too- after I got checked in at urgent care Tom took my bike to the shop. Front wheel was bent beyond repair but the frame was ok. After x-rays of my shoulder, hand and neck the verdict is a splint and an acute cervical sprain. Funny aside- told my 23 yr old dd that I had an acute cervical sprain and she crossed her legs, held her abdomen protectively and said "how did you sprain your cervix falling off your bike??" lol. We were supposed to go on a cycling trip to Victoria BC this weekend but will postpone that a week. Meanwhile, I look like I was punched in the jaw and dh feels terrible. He caused it (from now on I will ride in front!) Everything hurts. I know this is small potatoes compared to what others are going thru.1

Lori- welcome to our group! I use my iPhone all the time for entering food into my diary. After you click on breakfast you go up to the top where it says search enter in the food, then hit enter and a list of different foods matching that item comes up.
Purl- I am so sorry to hear that you had a terrible fall off your bike. I'm sure that your husband is feeling terrible. I hope you heal quickly!

Hi everyone. I'm 59. I've lost 55 with the help of a dietitian. It's taken me over 2 years to do it. I keep stumbling and gaining some back, then losing again. My dietitian suggested that I try an online support group since I can't get out due to mobility issues. That's another thing that keeps me for losing as quickly as I'd like to and as I used to before I became this immobile. I can't even really take walks and some housework is almost impossible for me to do alone anymore.
I still have at least 40 more pounds to lose. I hope none of you mind if I just hang out here for a while over the next week or so to see what you ladies are all about.

oh no Purl, sorry to hear about your fall!
Today I rec'd some easy pull-on jeans from another TOPS member who outgrew them. I came home and promptly tried on some pants that I had been saving. Still kind of snug... I have 4 pairs of jeans that are a size 20, and when I lose maybe 10 more pounds I shall be able to wear them. I have 5 tee-shirts that are med/lrg and they are waiting patiently until I can wear them too. I have two pairs of tan canvas pants, really great quality, one is 20 and the other is 18 and those will be fun to wear. I bought them toward the end of my Jenny Craig journey, but I never really got to wear them sadly. I'm like a baby that is growing (smaller) and I need to keep trying on clothes so I don't miss the opportunity to wear them!
Good meeting, but I wasn't the biggest loser. My one friend that always loses got it. I am happy for her, but she never divulges HOW she loses, so when I lose (like today 4 lbs yay!) I brought in my log journal for every day. That is my accountability. She has a lot going on in her life, and losing with stress is difficult. I think she just doesn't eat, which is an unfortunate thing. Also she has a disorder that makes her pick at her forearms etc. Her poor arms were so red with sores today. She is our weight recorder, so I think that helps her contribute, and kind of forces her to be sociable.
Today we are traveling to Longview with son for his Navy future sailor class and PT. There is a "Sizzlers' restaurant nearby, so we are going there after. I need to look up their menu so I can have a plan of attack!

Hey everyone I'm Lillie my goal is to start back losing consistently I've lost 40 pounds and got stuck I keep losing the same 1-3 pounds gain it back lose it I'm ready to get the rest of my weight off but I keep sabotaging myself1

Lenora & Heather ~ I try my best not to intervene in my DIL and Son's life. They live about 40 minutes from us and are very busy working and tending the two grands. My worst moment was when I got tired of Jo's hair hanging in his face (age 1) and trimmed the bangs. DIL was pregnant with baby #2 and cried and cried because I had done that. She wanted to give him his 1st haircut. Funny that they didn't notice it for almost a week. LOL
Putting my foot in my mouth was one of my worst problems when I was teaching. Seemed like I was always saying something that upset students, parents, or co-workers. I think I was a very good teacher but lacked the tact needed to handle social interactions.
We went to a seafood restaurant today for lunch and I felt good about choosing a large salad that had baby shrimp and a bit of crab meat on it. Did have a small cup of clam chowder so that may have undone the good of the salad.

Thanks for the book suggestion:pursuit of less. Sounds like its just what I've been looking for! I will have to pick it up this weekend for more inspiration. I am approaching a month of no clothes shopping(don't even miss it) and no eating out (this is the harder one for me) I am 3 weeks in focusing on using up food not letting it go to waste. Very good exercise for DH and I. NYKAREN0
