Wow, you ladies sound awesome...very supportive and motivating to each other! I just turned 50 and have gained about 4 pounds in September....on top of slowly gaining most of the year. Time to turn that around....will write more later. Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians in this group! It's turkey day at my house!4

Morning, my chickens...
Covered with wood dust, as I'm in the middle of sanding down a Tell City, mid-century mahogany table. Someone in the past botched a restoration on it, and I already got most of the dripped glue off the table legs. And yep, I'm aware that refinishing an antique takes the value down, but that had already been done once and done badly. At best. I genuinely love the smell of wood... and working with it soothes my soul. Bringing the beauty back to something that should be beautiful is extremely satisfying.
Preparations for the sale on Nov. 5 (not OF the warehouse, selling the stuff out of the warehouse) continue apace--and a tough week ahead at work. Since today is a bank holiday in the U.S. (Columbus Day) my usual city and county meetings have been postponed 'til tomorrow, so I have to get more done today than usual to prep for press day on Wednesday. Tuesday will be pretty much a bust, with a three-hour meeting in the morning, and another couple hours of meeting after work. Holidays are a horrible thing for a weekly newspaper, and not looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas work-wise. There's also a major conflict of interest brewing at the city, as one of the councilmen is trying to sell a plot of land to the city--and the county judge is the one who called me to tell me what was up on that front. He's incensed, to say the least. The headlines just write themselves, don't they!
Walked the karate instructor and his fiancee' through the warehouse on Friday, and was up front on the warehouse ouchies, and there are a few. If it's a large company, they're on their own, but these are good people, and I wanted them to understand that there is work yet to be done. Talked to them a lot about loans, etc., as they've never even bought a house, much less a commercial building.
This weekend, the DH got up on the roof with an elastomeric compound that MAY cure some of the leaks in the main body of the warehouse, but of course, there's no rain in the forecast, so we won't know for a while. While he was doing that, I got the chair seats recovered for the table--the original roseback chairs, and they turned out lovely. I will miss having all this room to work should we get the warehouse sold.
Linda in Northern Ireland, welcome! We have a few ladies from your area of the world, and we're glad to have you.
Liz in Idaho--Bovee said, "We fear things in proportion to our ignorance of them." Keep going with your research, research, research, my dear heart. I know you are scared, we all would be with that kind of diagnosis, but the more you know, the less scared you will be. Here's a pretty good explanation of stages and grades: http://www.cancer.net/cancer-types/uterine-cancer/stages-and-grades. Please keep us posted, you'll be supported in prayer by this group, for sure! Hoping for the best for you.
Back to my sanding, my dears.
Love y'all,

"We fear things in proportion to our ignorance of them." Lisa love that quote, so so true in my life. My upbringing was filled with anxiety because nothing was ever explained. I had no information or plan about what I could do to handle difficulties that came my way. Impactful quote Lisa, thank you for sharing your insights.
I am going to reflect today about the slow creep of my scale upwards, the slow creep of my emotional eating, and the slow sneaky creep of my mood on a downward trend. Soooo, do what works, hit the gym and maybe try to work a little longer and a little harder there
Facing a work related social event tomorrow after work, but am going to embrace the opportunity to wish a very dear colleague well, even though I will be uncomfortable with other folks invited to celebrate. Having a plan going in is going to help, gonna log the food (and one glass of wine) into mfp before I get there and make sure I have a great dinner (on the lighter side) when I get home.

Welcome to Linda in N. Ireland. I visited there last summer and loved it. You have a beautiful country. Still think about all the farmers sheep in the fields with different colors of paint on them so they know which ones belong to which farmer.
Liz- will send healing thoughts and prayers for you as you go through this journey. Good advice to get as much information as you can to help you understand your options. (((Hugs)))
Nice and cool and his morning so think I will walk before book club. BBL

Bummer! MFP no longer works on my (Windows) phone and no longer supports it either. That means the only way I can log food is on my PC. I REALLY don't want to drag that around with me everywhere, so guess who's going to have to find another system.
:grumble:
Apart from that, all's well except I'm off the charts busy and it's raining hard for this latitude.

Lisa - I have a Tell City rocker. I always look for Tell City furniture, especially antiques because my grandfather worked in the Tell City Chair factory. He was 7 (yes 7!) years old and left school to dip chairs in the varnish vats. He had to work to help support the family. He did this for nine years before going to Chicago and about ten years after that was headed to Colorado where he became a very successful businessman in Denver. It always amazes me when I think of a seven year old child doing that work. Just a little family tie to Tell City, Indiana.
Linda in Northern Ireland - Welcome! My youngest daughter spent a year in Closkelt , Northern Ireland. (Near Castlewellen?) Her husband is a US citizen but Irish to the core. I don't think he's ever quite forgiven his grandfather for not maintaining the family Irish citizenship.
Headed to a PT session today. I've regained my hand (getting the pain pump removed meant I got feeling back so I can type with two hands again. Can't move my arm but I can use my fingers. lol Just more stretching today, nothing stressful but it will hurt. I am faithful and do my exercises diligently. It is just so odd how the pain comes and goes. One day will be horrible and the next fine. I even slept last night without any pain meds. Just Tylenol. We shall see what tonight brings. lol
After the PT session it's a tutoring session with my granddaughter for reading. She just needs dedicated attention and practice. Having three rambunctious brothers, two of them toddlers makes it a bit challenging for her parents to give her that one on one time. Another granddaughter turns 9 today. They are all growing up so fast. Good thing we have a couple more on the way.
Starting a good day,
Marcelyn in Houston4 -
Happy Monday everyone
Welcome Linda nice to have another friend from this side of the pond
Liz - Thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sue - when you mentioned the sheep in Ireland it reminded me of a news item on TV here a couple of months ago A farmer had dyed his sheep in dayglo colour to stop rustlers I think it was in the Lake District and the tourists were stopping to take pics
Done my 45 min workout and the dreaded cross trainer ( still 3 minutes but it was a bit easier ) not sure if I should increase the time or the difficulty, any ideas

Liz from Caldwell: A cancer diagnosis is a fearful thing because we all know someone who had a bad time of it. Now there are treatments and interventions that provide excellent results. I hope your doctor has a good plan for you and things turn out well. My DSIL had a cancer removed from her breast more than a decade ago and is doing very well. She lives near Ontario these days. Sending prayers and good thoughts for a great outcome for you.
wahmx3: Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! Welcome to a great group!
NYKAREN: You have an excellent plan for the social event after work tomorrow. I bet you'll handle the situation with grace and confidence.
Penny: I'd be peeved if my phone didn't support MFP, too. :noway: It does, though. I have an iphone. I log everywhere, and even if I am off the grid I get credit for the days when I get back.
Kate UK: The orange sheep are an attention getter. Does the farmer raise them for meat or wool?
Yoga today! Yay!!!

Heather posted a quote similar to this that I wanted to use, but I couldn't recall it quite right. I went online and found this one.

Kate- that is so funny!! The ones we saw had different color circles. The guide said since there were no fences that is how the farmers knew which ones belonged to his farm. Very colorful.

DJ: So glad that all's well with minimal damage.
Penny: Is it possible to use the internet on your Windows phone instead of the app (similar to how you would use it on your PC?
Lisa: Good luck with the refinishing! Definitely not something that I would tackle. I like your quote regarding "fear". Thanks for sharing with us
Sharon-S. AB: We are on day 3 of snow here in Northern AB.
Liz from Caldwell, Idaho: So sorry to hear about the diagnosis, we are here for support. What kind of symptoms did you miss?
Beth & Becca: Welcome back...post when you can it's great to hear from you.
Welcome to everyone new.
Spent many hours yesterday shopping and cooking. Made a bunch of low carb meatloaf and used cupcake tins to bake it in so that I could freeze 2 for individual meals that I can take out for lunches. Each cupcake is only 1g net carbs so that's awesome! I also pre-steamed a lot of asparagus that I got on sale and froze individual servings for use in omelettes or as a side. In the process I found a recipe for using the the thick stalks(parts that I would normally toss) to make a cream of asparagus soup that I will try to finish today, as well as a cream of cauliflower and spinach soup. All this snow has me wanting soup to keep warm.

Carol – Not judgmental! Because Jesus turned water into wine; and, wine is drunk in a lot of countries, women and men over the age of 18 drink it; maybe even younger, almost like water with their meals. Just have to learn to drink maybe only 4-6 ounces of it in the evening. I was really surprised that the wine I drink isn't that high in calories. When we were on vacation for 4 days; we ate a lot and drank a lot (mixed drinks and wine or beer) and I know I went way over my CI; but, did do a lot of walking on the beach (CO), so I only gained .5lbs at weigh-in. And went up in areas, went down in areas; but, nurse/MD is happy with my progress. Gave me the ‘highest’ of compliments by telling me that I have been one of her best ‘success’ stories. Some of the women are not losing and they want to know what ‘she’ is going to do about it. I stick with my plan, most days; but, with exercise I know I have some CO numbers I can use, even though I do not normally ‘eat them back’. Two more points until BMI is ‘normal’ range. So, therefore, I am not saying what my goal is. I will probably lose another 5lbs after that to have a ‘range’. Over a year-and-a-half, I have lost a total of 42lbs.
DJ and Becca – I think we need to feel ‘comfortable’ in our bodies, no matter where they are, at the time. I do think it takes a lot of discipline to change them, whether it is losing, gaining, or maintaining what is a healthy for us. Some people can carry more weight than others because of bone structure. But, I think we are all here to encourage everybody. Those willing to post their journey are pretty brave, I think. For me, I won’t post a ‘before’ or ‘after’ picture until I reach my goal. I don’t want to look at them, if I can help it. My ‘before’ pictures were ‘awful’ and I was wearing a bathing suit at the time. EEEKKKK!!!! My after picture will also be in a bathing suit because that will show me ‘just how much my body has changed’. If I take a picture in the clothes I wear now (usually skinny jeans or yoga pants with a long shirt) not sure I will be able to see the difference that much. I need to go buy a couple or so ‘long’ tops for when it starts getting cooler here. Thankfully, we don’t have ‘cold’ weather here and a lot of what I have worn for summer, I can still wear in winter. Becca – I think you are beautiful ‘inside’ and ‘out’; that ‘inside’ is more important than the ‘outside’. You also give us a lot of laughs as well.
Beth – Welcome back!
Katla – I will stay on MFP to also maintain when I get to my goal. I think encouragement and reading others’ journey helps me in a lot of ways.
Liz – Sorry for your diagnosis … hoping the prognosis is better. We’ll be praying for you! {{{{{hugs}}}}}
DOS told his Dad that DnL#1 has a spot on one of her breasts; her hernia is getting bigger (the later needs surgery now); but, one of the ladies she works with said that ‘if’ she could wait for a few months more, the state will pay her while she is out. I don’t know how serious they are thinking the spot on the breast is or what they are going to do about it. She is very large breasted and normally they are denser. I’ll help her as much as she wants me to, even if that is no help at all.
I think what got my ‘attention’ about losing weight (besides not liking how I looked in my own body) was when I told one of my MDs that I had been gaining ‘only’ a pound or pound-and-a-half monthly (over the year). He looked at me and said, ‘and that is 12 – 18lbs a year; and, you have been doing this nearly 5 years. So now I am losing 2 – 3lbs a week; so hopefully I will get there in less time than it took me to get to my heaviest. Not until he 'put it to me this way' did I realize
Marcelynh – My maternal grandfather worked for the Brumby Rocker Company in Marietta, GA after he left the Navy. I have one of the giant rockers; and, several pieces of furniture that he made while he was working there. A tool box; and a child’s adjustable desk and stool (which I use in front of my sofa). Also he made the trunk that my Mother took when she went off to college. Cedar lined. I use it behind my sofa; mainly because that is the only place to put it now.
Lisa – My DDnL#2 made a bench out of a bed (solid wood) that someone had dumped on the trash heap; she stopped and got it before the trash truck came by. Said that DYS (after she had cut the foot board in half and the 2 of us had connected it to the head board, took over finishing it. Said she was not happy about it because it was ‘her’ project. If I had room, I would go to ‘flea markets’ and buy things to repurpose it. I ‘love’ watching ‘Flea Market Flip’. I also like watching “Salvage Dogs” and “Fixer Upper”. I think on the two last shows; I got upset because the first took down an old ‘log cabin’ by just destroying it (they should have called Barnwood Builders when they discovered what they had). I got even more upset when I saw Chip and Joanna rip down the paneling (that had been painted) that was what we have in our house (Pecky Cypress). They could have taken it down and let Clint (their carpenter) plane off the paint and made some wonderful cabinets and/or used it in rooms where Joanna is so happy to find ‘shiplap’. That ‘shiplap’ looks nothing more than just boards running horizontal. My Mother and Daddy’s house had ‘double shiplap siding on it almost all around it’.
A friend and her husband were supposed to tear it down and retain the salvage; but, before they could put up the ‘Stay Out – Asbestos’ signs … someone at the church that owned it told members that anybody who wanted something out of it needed to go get it ASAP. No regard for the ‘contract’ they had made with them about ‘retaining’ the salvage. People just ‘raped’ it, cutting windows out that were old, old, old wavy glass … worth about $100 per square foot. Took chain saws to window framed, mantles, and 12” wide foot boards in 4 rooms. I had asked ‘if I could have anything’ out of the house and told her to look under the front stairs (it had a closet door that was camouflaged by paint and a painted over lock. Inside she found the same 12” wide foot board and gave that to me. I had enough to make both sisters a coat rack; and, enough left over to make one for myself. All approximately 5' long. We just have not done ours yet. All I have to do is put some varnish on it and put hooks on it. They were so thrilled to have something of the home we all grew up in. It was my oldest sister’s 10-year-old birthday when my Dad came home and told my Mother that he had bought the house. So it was my Mother's dream to own a big old house; and "Suzanne's Birthday house."
Our ‘head’ commissioner donated some land to building a sports park; with the stipulation that ‘if it was no longer used’ [for some determined period of time] then it would revert back to his family. Sounds like a ‘tax loop’ to me. The only people who use it (now) is the public HS; even though they have the space they purchased when they purchased the land the new HS and Middle School sits on, for expansion and/or building their own sports arena. I don’t know where they play football. I know they practice on their own land; but, it doesn’t have bleachers, so they have to be playing elsewhere. But, I don’t think the sports complex (named for this commissioner) has anything other than baseball/softball fields on it. And, they paved the road to get to it. It is ‘known’ as the ‘paved road to nowhere’. You can't imagine the number of truck loads of dirt it took to make it level. While they were working on it, the grating of the dirt roads in the country went to Hell-o and back.
Also, thanks for the website on stages and grades of cancers. One test that is rarely done in women, especially women who have had a hysterectomy is a C-125. After reading an email that circulated several years ago; I printed it out and took it to my GYN and showed it to him. It talked about a woman having a hysterectomy; but, later developed ‘ovarian cancer’ even though the hysterectomy had also removed her ovaries. Apparently, the cancer cells were in the body. He immediately ordered a C-125 on me. My Mother ended up having ovarian cancer; but, that is not what took her life.
What I do not understand (and my BC/BS does not understand it either) is that the BRAC 1, BRAC 2, or BART tests ‘are not performed’ on women UNLESS THEY HAVE OR HAVE HAD CANCER. This makes ‘no sense at all’. It should be looked at as a ‘diagnostic’ test. Since both of my sister have had breast cancer, they also had these tests. All were normal; so unless I have cancer [and maybe not even then] … I won’t go through the expense of these tests. My granddaughters all know that breast cancer runs in our family (or did, once we found out that my oldest sister had it at the age of 39). Why should they be ‘further’ upset?
Well, this AM it is sunny, so before it gets too hot; I need to go out and repot some of my ferns. I will have to either get my kitchen ladder or wait for DH to come get some down that also need to be repotted. I don’t think it will get really ‘hot’ today.
Have a wonderful wee!

Donna from NC - resetting goals - had foot surgery this summer and got off track. Starting again and love reading posts from this group! My goal for October is to move more - at least 5 days/week and give up snacks which I only eat because I am bored and it has been a habit for a long time. I removed my snack foods at home and work and am making progress. Also trying to get more sleep!3

Well I asked my daughter today her suggestion what might work for making this generic room nice fr Christmas. Her ice was to get butcher lack of white rolls of paper and put it on the wall. One of my two grand kids could draw a tree and then let the kids go crazy on swing decorations. I am sure I have some odds and ends ribbons, etc to a.so put on the tree. I can't imagine what a group of 8 kids could do with glitter so that is out. We have to thoroughly clean the place soon glitter. My two are 15 and 10. But the other 7 are anywhere from 5 to newborn, 2 of them are 5 then 3 The others are 3 And 4.5

I'm HOME!
Always nice to get back home. Slowly getting used to the change in temp, hour, environment etc.
Such wonderful things we saw! But I'm enjoying catching up with my TV programmes. Being typically British. Sitting in the house watching TV. I did see quite a few overweight Spanish women, but on the whole they are out of the house, walking about a lot, so I think they must walk off a lot of calories. Even old women are tottering down the street in the evening. A more sociable, active life than we have. Much of it spent "en la calle" ( in the street). Talking, walking, eating and drinking together. Well, they are not sat on the couch like the English. That is one reason we want to move to Brighton - it might get us out of the house more. A stroll by the sea? A coffee in a café? A drink under an umbrella?
I will try to post a couple of pics from my phone of the Alhambra. Truly one of the wonders of the world.
Got to get going tomorrow after yoga on the sale of our house and potential purchase. Still having cold feet, but I expect we will go ahead.

Heather – You calling something “Alhambra” makes me think of an “Alhambra” dinner and play that my Dad took all of us to, in Jacksonville. It was buffet style, anything you could imagine and very ‘high end’ at the time. The tables were on multi-levels so that nobody had an unobstructed view. When it was supper time, everybody walked down to the lower level to get their plates and my Daddy, who was a heavy social drinker, got tired of waiting and moving slowly in line; so he would pick up the drinks off the table and drink them. My Mother who was in front of him heard us laughing and turned around to catch him in the act. She scowled him unmercifully. Beautiful gardens!
Cracker has been outside with me; but, hiding among my plants to stay out of the sun. Thankfully, she had moved when I started with the hose. Now she is sleeping (one of her favorite pastimes).

Thanks for the pic's Heather
I made the cream of asparagus soup - let me tell you way too much effort for the result and I find that it is way to sweet for my taste buds. All it has is asparagus, yellow onion, cream and 1 tbsp of coconut oil.
I've also got the slow cooker on with my cauliflower and spinach soup working away and then I made 24 ham & cheese individual frittatas in my new 24 non stick cupcake tin. Was that ever a good purchase! I used it for my individual low carb meat loaf as well and it washes up so easily even if it doesn't fit into my sink very well.

amazing pictures Heather!!
Last week I made homemade bean soup with some of my chicken stock I made from a chicken I cooked and let wallow in hot water with spices. Two cans of pinto beans, a couple of tsps. of chicken stock (Better Than Boullion) and careful tending and mashing with a whisk made a really creamy soup. The next day I decided to warm up the soup, but you know what? It turned itself into a kind of bean dip being in the refrigerator! Yay! I took a tortilla, cut it up into triangles, sprinkled cayenne pepper on it, and browned them in a pan with a wee bit of olive oil. warmed up the dip and oh man it was the BOMB! I surprise myself sometimes!!
Today I am making some homemade oatmeal cookies. I might put a bit of the dough into my mini loaf pan and make them into bars. Then I can sprinkle some toasted coconut on the top. Or maybe some of my Toasted Honey bunches of Oats cereal. I will have to figure out using the recipe thingy on here, for the calories.
Today husband and I walked the grocery store for an hr, buying things I needed. Have started buying Christmas treats for my "Christmas containers". I have been collecting Crystal light clear canisters for a while and now I have 4 for the kids. I need to buy some puffy glitter writing pens to put their names on them. Then they get equal amounts of candy. Also bought those little bags of gold chocolate coins. I have bought those for the last 27 yrs for their stockings.
After we get a certain check I plan on buying my candy to make my "candy trains. Pretty simple: I take a pack of gum and hot glue a cylinder of 5 flavor lifesavers on it. Then I take a square chocolate and put on one end for the "Cab" of the engine. I put a wrapped Rolo chocolate on the end of the other for the front of the train. I then take a wrapped kiss and put on the Lifesaver like a smokestack...with the paper of the kiss its like steam. Lastly I take 4 wrapped peppermint candies and line up the twists on each side like the wheels. The twists of the candy parallel to the train. I used to make 30 for one of the kids' class at Christmastime! It is kind of expensive if you are making that many! I will have to go to our retro Candy store the next town over so I can buy the multi-colored variety flavors Lifesavers. They are hard to find now!
Today its bright blue sky! Rained all day yesterday, so everything is clean. Living in an apartment complex our front entry always has spider webs on it. This weekend my son was freaking out about the webs around the door. So I stood outside with a flip flop, and he fed me hot pans of water to rinse off the webs. At one point there was about 5 large spiders on their way down to the ground! Eeeek! I flip flopped them.....
