You just told me above that you think it's wrong for me to publicly state I think aspartame is unsafe. How does that not shut down the conversation?
Not speaking for Aaron, but I think that when you assert that aspartame is unsafe, that that assertion is wrong. I am not saying you shouldn't be able to say it, of course.
Yeah, that was what I meant. If someone spreads what I view as misinformation then yes I think that they are wrong to do that because I think it is wrong to spread misinformation. I don't however say that that person has no right to say whatever it is they want to say, people say things that are wrong all the time and they aren't jailed for it. You can say it, doesn't mean your opinion amounts to a fact nor does it mean your opinion is on the same level as everyone elses opinion (informed versus uninformed opinions). Other people are then of course perfectly allowed to say anything they want back to you about it, be it agreement, a reasoned argument or total mockery...all are perfectly allowable.
As for this rather backhanded compliment:Your last post is one of the calmest, most reasoned posts I've read of yours
implying that although this post of mine you consider civil previous posts of mine have not been I give no apologies for being blunt. You want my feelings about this subject its this. Medicine and alternative medicine are not at all on the same level or even on the same playing field, I'm sorry but there is no reason to consider that they should both be taken somehow equally seriously. Alternative medicine is what you classify things that haven't been able to demonstrate efficacy when put to the test. If its tested and it shows efficacy then its not called alternative medicine anymore, its called medicine. Looking to "alternative medicine" for answers to product safety is nonsensical to me. Product safety is a testable thing, we test it...results come out, you look at the results. There is no need for rampant speculation and the writing of blogs describing how one "feels" things aren't safe.
One can track the fate of small molecules that enter our bodies such as aspartame, that field is known as pharmoacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. The fate of aspartame is that it is rapidly metabolised within our gut and none of it enters our bloodstream intact. There is nothing to speculate about here, that is just fact. What enters our bloodstream from the processing of aspartame is methanol in low quantities as well as the amino acids aspartate and phenylalanine, all of which you get in much larger quantities from normal foods such as orange juice and chicken. These are facts. How you can look at those facts and then contort yourself to believing aspartame is still toxic I do not know. Aspartame has been in general usage for 50+ years at this point and no ill effects have been documented as causatively linked to it. There very well maybe people out there who have it as a migraine trigger or perhaps there are some who have an allergic reaction to it, I can believe that because frankly one can get those things to literally anything. Claims that aspartame is a toxin or that its toxic or that it is a carcinogen however are quite frankly outright false and yes, frankly, I believe that stating that as if they are true is wrong to do in the sense that spreading any sort of misinformation that might lead to actions that are not based on reality is wrong to do.20 -
Any type of soda, sugar free or otherwise, expands the tummy and will make you feel hungry. Diet coke is so full of chemicals. It wont hinder your weight loss if you dont eat extra food, but it is bad for youe overall health in so many othet ways. Personally I dont touch it.0

I felt hungry when I started drinking Diet Dr Pepper this evening. But that was probably because I started drinking it before dinner was ready.4 -

O-Chem was truly the devils work. Clearly a contradiction in terms anyways...organic chemistry? More like artificial chemistry! Because organic means real and chemistry isn't real, its fake!
You are clearly a shill to Big-Sweetner, making the big bucks doing your chemistry. We all know chemists make the big bucks. Scientists, living in their ivory tower castles with their lack of debt and incomes matching their education level. Pshaw9 -

Its not the diet soda thats the issue, it's the rest of the items (calories) that make the difference. I suspect anyone getting "hungry" from diet soda may be suffering from suggestibility, but that's just a guess.
I dont prefer the taste of anything with aspartame (aftertaste-yuck!) but I often like the ones with the sucralose (the new aspartame free diet pepsi is actually not bad!) and I use a stevia based packet in various stuff at home.
However, I am convinced that Diet Dr Pepper is indeed the debil.
eta: because DDP is really, really nasty ...1 -

Poor, abused chemistry. Misquoted and misreferenced, fear-mongered chemistry.
