The OP is going to want to gain muscle at the same time along with fat as he indicated an interest in bodybuilding. He should enjoy eating more because his TDEE is likely much higher than he realizes and is losing weight because he isn't eating enough to support his activity level.
Actually, in addition to eating more quality foods more often, he should up protein and fats (as physician recommended) along with healthy carbs plus veggies for balance. Unfirtunately, he is burning more than he eats. Eating better foods more frequently should be the goal, IMO.
I understand his home support isn't the greatest. It would be great if the mom would get on board to help out. He will need to eat more to turn things around and start gaining weight in a healthy way.
There is a MFP "gaining weight" board so OP can get help if he happens to be a hardgainer which may or may not be the case . He is seeking outside help getting screened by medical professionals and is on the right track to determine if there are any underlying medical issues.
We don't know if OP has an eating disorder (which many are implying), but it isn't fair for people to automatically assume that. If one has difficulty gaining weight others who gain weight easily might not understand how difficult it is. There isn't any desire to be flippant or minimize the situation. If it came across that way to OP, then I would be the first to apologize.
Ok. This is a legit attempt to help you understand some of what's going on here. Would you go up to one of those starving Somali kids they used to show on TV all the time and say, "enjoy eating now because once this is fixed and you're 40, ya ain't gunna be able to eat that much food and get away with it!" Or, "I see you'll have some interest in gaining muscle and shaping that physique. Here's some tips on how to go about it." I'm hoping not. This man is severely underweight. He needs to eat any and everything he can to get that body mass up. There's no enjoyment or body sculpting about it - his current weight is not safe and he needs to increase it.
He has actually started taking steps to getting this done, so I say we encourage him while he diligently stays that course!13 -

This isn't someone who has difficulty gaining weight per se, this is someone that lost 26lb in two months without trying. Please, just stop.9 -

OP doesn't need to worry about macros right now. He needs to gain weight with whatever food and drink he can get down. Please, please stop trying to help because you're really not.17 -

If this is in fact true, then I hope that all is well and doctor gives you great ideas in how to go about all of this. No one on this thread has all of the details. I hope that your second set of tests after Christmas serve as a springboard to achieve the health and body you are looking for.
Best Wishes for a Happy New Year. Keep trying to gain weight in the meantime by adding extra calories. I still believe that you are honestly seeking help and really do hope that there are no medical reasons for the recent loss.
Please do eat more as you are very active and expend a lot of calories. In addition you have to be in a calorie surplus in order to gain muscle. Also you need adequate nutrients so that you don't get worn down. If anything on this entire thread rings true, please take good care of yourself and turn this around.1 -

can you log all your calories for the day and open your diary? People who are emaciated and malnourished with ED can feel like they eat a decent amount. Your perspective may be skewed. Do you know how many calories you eat? I mean there is a HUGE difference with how to help you if you are actually eating enough vs if you are subconsciously restricting. If you are eating a lot and losing randomly, then there is definitely something going on. I suspect if you log you will see how little you really are eating.0 -
how are you doing?1

I'm wondering the same thing too. How are you doing?
Just looked, It seems he last logged in on the second. Hope he will look in again soon.1 -
I hope he is on the "gaining weight" board and has been actively gaining.0

You'll always weigh more at the end of the day compared to first thing in the morning.0 -
One always weighs more at the end of the day. It sounds like a good day. I hope you have more days with plenty of food available to you, don't forget some veg. Wishing you a Healthy 2017.0

That's annoying. But the good thing is they clearly aren't seriously worried that you have an immediate health issue.
Have you gained any weight since you started this thread? Thanks for checking back in with us, I think there's a lot of us here keen to hear your progress.

I've been reading your posts and it's good you are finally getting help. It's horrible having to wait ages for an appointment. It in the mean time I think it would be good for you to just concentrate on eating more.
Instead of cereal for breakfast have eggs and or bacon, much more nutritious than cereal and will help you build muscle.
If you can't eat a lot eat lots of small meals. Maybe look at nutrition shakes and bars to help you too.0 -
