In regards to using ma’am and sir, what about children calling elders aunt and uncle? I grew up referring to my parents friends as aunt and uncle as a sign of respect. Is this abnormal?!

I've heard people do it because they were referring to their mom's bff or something, but not just a thing you did out of respect.

    Same.

& i have my kids call my peers Miss/Ms./Mr. (first name) if they haven’t expressed a preference in how they’d like to be addressed.

I grew up calling my parents friends by their first names.
As a kid I called my friends parents by their name usually, if I didn't know it it was Ms/Mr (Surname).

I remember thinking "just because someone is older than you doesn't mean they deserve more respect, 'respect where respect is due'".

As an adult I always call people by their first name if I know it. Exception I think is doctors and teachers, unless they have introduced themselves by their first name...wonder why I do that? Its kinda a *kitten* thing to do, like I'm an underling or something. Never thought of that before.

What do you call your parents/grandparents? I've called my mom by her first name since I was a young teen. Stepdad his name always. Dad or his first name. Nana, Granddad (plus a made up name for him), Grandma and Grandpa (or his name).

I think I started calling my parents by their first name to get their attention, it worked!
