    @skippygirlsmom I did accidentally turn on the gps once walking in the building and it was such a tiny little path you couldn't really see a thing! I'm just glad I kept the streak going. I was actually working up a sweat, running/jogging in jeans and a sweater. LOL I had on my Ghost 7s though so good shoes :)

    Can't keep up with the thread this week! I won't be any better as I head towards the weekend either, as I'm away. I promise I'll be a better participant next week :)

    Another club run tonight, loving it even more now I've been there long enough that I recognise people and can chat away.

    Last pt visit today. Now I'm waiting on a company assigned pt to do a return to work assessment.

    I asked about running today. The response was "Maybe in 12 weeks". Crap on a cracker! A nerve was cut to the medial glute... Sooo, it's taking forever to figure out how to use it... Crap.

    @greenolivetree Great that you kept up the streak! 20 laps in an office building with hallways sounds less crazy than 200 laps in the living room.

    @MNLittleFinn I agree with @7lenny7 , I would want to do one of the long long runs three weeks before the race. I only ran one marathon, so I'm hardly an expert, but that worked for me the one time I did it ;)
    I guess if you absolutely want to run (not race!) that half marathon, you could run 7 miles on your own first and plan at such that those miles lead you to the start of the half course just in time. That way it would be like a 20 mi long run, and since you already ran 7 miles before the start, you would be less tempted to go out too fast.

    --

    I got lucky with the weather tonight - I was faffing about long enough that when I finally went out, a thick fog had decended, which somehow translated into milder temperatures (barely below 0°C/30°F). Sometimes fog annoys me, sometimes I think it's magical and beautiful - tonight it was the latter. I didn't go very fast, because the visibility was really poor, but I passed by a lot of houses with Christmas decorations in the last third of my run and loved how the lights shown through the mist.

    @Elise4270 Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that! :'(
    I was really hoping for you that your PT would clear you for running. Can you at least cycle? Maybe you can also ask the company PT for a second opinion, if you aren't sure your PT is right.

    The company pt is just assessing weather or not I can do my job. I'll let the surgeon make the running assessment in February.

    I can walk, cycle, swim and lift. Dag-gum everything but run!

    Thanks for your sympathies!

    Monday, December 5th: 2 miles (power walk during lunch break)
    Tuesday, December 6th: 4 miles (treadmill, on hill setting)

    I have a question for all y'all: I'm doing my first half marathon in April 2017. When I first started losing weight, I walked A LOT (think 4 miles every morning and 2 miles in the evening, all outdoors), but since I started lifting weights, I have fallen off the walking/jogging/running bandwagon. So I'm not a newbie to running but I haven't really done any active running for a couple months. Are there any programs that I could follow that can help me build back my endurance up for the half?

    12/1: 6 miles with Pacers crew +lifting
    12/2: 2 miles
    12/3: 8 miles with the Saturday crew
    12/4: 5.3 miles on trails +lifting
    12/5: 6 miles
    12/6: 2 miles + lifting
    12/7: 6 miles

    Spent the first 2ish miles on the phone with my dad talking into my headphone mic. We've been doing tons of emailing this week about my finances; my BIG BIG BIG student loans come due next month so I'm budgeting like a mad woman, and my dad loves personal finance crap so he's been really helpful to bounce ideas off of. He's helping me budget my savings and loan repayments and helping me plan for buying a (used) car early next year. It's been a very "adulting" week, so getting back to a 35-40 mile week is helping the stress a lot.

    Skimmed all the posts. This is such a prolific thread! I need to remember to check it at work, because in the evening it is just too much!

    @Elise4270 - Bummer about not being able to run! I hope you can stay somewhat sane doing the stuff you're allowed to do.

    @MNLittleFinn - When you're trying to lose weight, sometimes you have to win the battle at the grocery store rather than at the dinner table. When you're trying to stay healthy as a runner, sometimes you have to win the battle at race registration rather than during the race. This may be one of those times. It was very hard for me to pass up the Four Seasons Challenge; but I can't afford to commit to Flower City until *after* I see how my body reacts to Boston. So, no Four Seasons and if I am healthy enough to run Flower City I'll pay the higher late entry fee.

    December Running Totals (miles)
    12/1 – 8.08 warmup + speed work
    12/2 – rest day
    12/3 – 10.13 warmup + 5K race + easy 30 minutes
    12/4 – 8.07 easy
    12/5 – rest day
    12/6 – 5.96 warmup, speed work, cool down
    12/7 – 6.00 easy

    December total to date – 38.24

    Nominal Challenge Goal – 150 miles
    Real Goals: Finish transition to healthy running. Use Club Nationals as a learning experience on managing air travel to a race. Build a base toward Boston training. Avoid re-injury

    Today's notes – One of life's little ironies is the way infrequent necessities pop up at inconvenient times. Today I went to Walmart to buy underwear, because the briefs I bought when I achieved my current waistline are wearing out. If you do have to go to Walmart in the month of December, 11 AM on a Wednesday isn't a bad time.

    While I was there anyway, I looked for another pair of cheap running tights. No tights were there, but I picked up a $10 pair of base layer compression shorts (a.k.a. winter running underwear) and a $15 pair of running pants that looked like the pictures I'd seen of Siberius pants. I'm sure they're not as high quality, but for that price it's a low risk. What attracted me to them was the pockets. If I can get pockets on a $15 pair of running pants, and they work out, why spend $60 or $80?

    With the temperature about right for light tights, but with a couple pair packed in case we get a cool day in Tallahassee, I went out running this afternoon in the new pants from Walmart. Loose pants feel different than tights, but they worked well enough. At 39° F (4° C), I couldn't tell how well they'd work when it gets cold; but the pockets did well enough with my cards and keys.

    Not much special about today's run other than testing new clothes. 6 miles, 48:04, bring it in easy. The recovering leg complained a bit, but Garmin reported a good left/right running balance. *shrug* Maybe it's because I didn't have a good stretching session after yesterday's workout in the rain. I made sure to stretch well today.

    Tomorrow I need to be up in the middle of the night to catch an early flight. I expect the next time I run, I'll wear shorts and a tee.

    @OSUbuckeye906 Re: Sports - For the pro teams I am a Chicago girl all the way - Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks and Bulls! If I followed college sports (which I really don't) I would probably be an OSU fan even though I went to Purdue. My dad has always been a big Buckeye fan and at least a little of it rubbed off! :)

    I grew up in the Chicago area, so I root for all those pro teams as well! I'd say college football is the main sport I follow though.

    Got in 3.3 miles today after a strength training session. Really concentrating on my heart rate keeping it mainly in zone 2. So let's just say I was slow. But still got it done. Plan on doing another run tomorrow. Unfortunately on treadmill as we just dropped temp significantly and am now in the teens when I have time in my schedule to run. Brrrr

    @elise4270 - oh no! I was hoping you would be cleared. So sorry. You can still walk though, right? So you just log your walks and we will cheer you on.

    @MobyCarp - new clothes! yay! Good luck at the races! :smile:

    @kristinegift - oh dear on student loans. Seems like you just started working a month ago but I guess it was 6 months. So cute you were talking to him during the run. :)

    @HonuNui - amen on the sunblock.

    Made it back to my trainer today for strength training. It was tough because I am sore in strange places from my fall, so he had to modify what I was doing. Ran 1 mile on treadmill there for my streak.

    12/1 - 3.2 miles
    12/2 - 1.5 miles
    12/3 - 45 miles biking + 1 mile run
    12/4 - 27 miles biking + 1 mile run
    12/5 - 4 miles
    12/6 - 4 miles
    12/7 - 1 mile on treadmill for streak

    Upcoming races
    2/5/17 - Daytona Beach HM
    2/26/17 - Disney Princess HM Orlando

    Thanks for all the support everyone. @ddmom0811 @MobyCarp and @7lenny7 why do know speed walking is a thing? Haha!

    I still may try to run a bit, like last month, a tenth of a mile at a time. Be darn cold on the bike... Maybe I could practice the violin on the bike trainer. :tongue:

    1---2 hours on YouTube, and a massage
    2---1.7 in the rain
    3,4---nada

    Got in 4 miles with my tri team after our bike ride today. Definitely miss the social element of running as I only do it once/week with others when down in Florida, but it was odd running faster than I normally would despite being a much faster racer than all of my companions (at least at this point in my life - as one was a sub-2:20 marathoner back in the good old days).

    12/2 - 7 miles
    12/3 - 5 miles
    12/4 - 4 miles (warmup + 5K race)
    12/6 - 7 miles
    12/7 - 4 miles

    Total: 27 miles
    Goal: 180 miles
    Remaining: 153 miles

    2016 Race Schedule:
    Disney Marathon - Jan 6 - 3:29:09
    Gasparilla 15K - Feb 20 - 1:01:59
    Ironman 70.3 Florida - Apr 10 - 5:07:51
    Pittsburgh Marathon - May 1 - 3:08:25
    Ironman 70.3 Augusta - Sep 25 - 4:43:56
    Chicago Marathon - Oct 9 - 3:04:57
    Ironman Florida - Nov 5 - 10:21:27 (3:38:20 marathon time)

    7 km with the Dedicated Winter Warriors 5 runners and 5 headlamps bobbing up and down along the trails, it's cold enough that the snow actually squeaks with every step. It makes for quite the racket when you have 5 runners in a gang - hard to carry on a conversation. One of the petite young ladies had the look of "WTF am I doing" while sitting in her car putting on her glove(s) and hat(s). We weren't the only ones out on the Trails - Dog walkers and other runners coming from the other trails.
    Another Chilly one- although looks like a heatwave for Sunday l9gyk5rh6u36.png

    3.1 mile run, half mile walk, then decided to run another 1.1. I feel like I may be coming down with a cold or something. My sinuses are not happy.

    Supposed to snow again this weekend. I'm itching to try out the trail shoes.

    Still in the Burbs of Chicago, and it was my coldest run ever: 22F, windchill of 6F. Once I got running, I was actually warm except for my chin and my ears. Forgot my neck warmer in Texas, and should have worn my ear warmer headband under my hat. I wore 2 long sleeve dry fit shirts, a dri fit running jacket, a hoody, and a wind breaker. I probably could have just worn 1 dri fit shirt instead of 2. Wore running tights and a thicker pair of fleece lined pants along with my ski socks. Wore thin running gloves with my new pair of Packer gloves on top. My hands were nice and warm!!

    Now, I'm still trying to warm up...have the heat in my hotel room jacked up to 76. :smiley:

    12/1- 7.04
    12/2- 4.01
    12/3- 10.01
    12/4- REST
    12/5- 5.32
    12/6- 5.01
    12/7- 3.01

    Total: 34.4

    Nominal mileage goal: 100 miles
    Real goal, get into the swing of Marathon training, and get used to doing 3 days a week of some strength/core while running 35+ MPW

    Today's notes: 3.01 miles running. Ran it on the treadmill because I was going to be in the gym for my XT anyway. Today was Burpee Death Drop day. Just a reminder, it looked like this:

    5 burpees -> 10 inch worm
    5 burpees -> 20 jumping jacks
    5 burpees -> 30 push ups
    5 burpees -> 40 squats
    5 burpees -> 50 high kicks (per leg)
    5 burpees -> 60 calf raises
    5 burpees -> 70 starter jumps
    5 burpees -> 80 skaters
    5 burpees -> 90 push jacks
    5 burpees -> 100 skaters
    5 burpees -> 100 skaters
    5 burpees -> 90 push jacks
    5 burpees -> 80 skaters
    5 burpees -> 70 starter jumps
    5 burpees -> 60 calf raises
    5 burpees -> 50 high kicks (per leg)
    5 burpees -> 40 squats
    5 burpees -> 30 push ups
    5 burpees -> 20 jumping jacks
    5 burpees -> 10 inch worm

    You know this was killer for me when the Burpees became one of the easier things for me at the end. I think it took me like 45-50 minutes to complete this, and I was just trashed at the end. That said, no hip problems and no soreness now, but I have a feeling that DOMS could be really "fun" tomorrow.

    Wow! That is killer! You rock!
