Repeat after me. "If you don't know how to drive in snow and ice, and it's snowing and icy, then stay at home!" Not just one, but THREE pickups flipped in a two-mile span. Hope everyone had their seatbelts on.

Another pickup driver decided to try to pass me a mile later (I was traveling safely and sanely at to 40 mph) and I got to watch him fishtail for about a half mile in my rearview mirror before he finally got it straightened out and pulled back in behind me. Silly bugger.

I am sitting at the clinic after surviving the trip here. Time to bury my face in a book. Wish they wouldn't have ever started putting TVs in waiting rooms!

    Love y'all...

Morning ladies. I think I did sleep some. But I tool some kind of pill that was for cold night time and I will take the day time version in a little bit, that along with cough medicine, sleeping pill and Lortab put me to sleep. When I got up this morning, the morning cough is real loose. But now the chest is real tight and the cough is almost constant and it is killing my back. If this doesn't improve by tomorrow morning, I will call the doctor's office.

Karen, have you ever thought of doing your shopping online at Walmart and just go to pick up? I have several friends who do that and they love it.

Just got back from walking the dogs. My oldest, Chewy has a tear in his eye, and $125 later been treating with pain meds and anti- bio eye drops. He is feeling better so enjoyed a 2 mile walk with them in the damp cold of CT.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .

    Good Morning Ladies,

I got home from my cruise yesterday but was too tired to even log in here. This morning I found 450 posts so haven’t read them. I did skim a few pages and see we have lots of new ladies. Welcome to all of you. I’ll try to read a few pages later but wanted to let you all know that I made it back. captain-smiley-emoticon.gif

We had a wonderful time. The weather was great! Each cruise is a little different because of the crew and the different passengers. This one had especially nice and friendly people. We made lots of new friends. The food was good as always. I think the best thing was a filet mignon we had on the sea day brunch with our steak and eggs. Everyone at the table ordered two filets except me.
I found a new friend to go to the beach with in Nassau since my friend isn’t mobile enough to go. We stopped on the way at Senior Frogs to have a beer that cost $9.00. When we got to the beach they had bars there (which we didn’t realize they would) and they were selling 4 beers and 4 shots for $9.99. We did share those and didn’t drink that many ourselves. Met the cutest young couple that we had a good time with and he bought us each another beer and a few shots. We had shared our shots with them. Since we wanted our shots to go and weren’t going to stay at the Tiki Bar while we had our drinks, they poured them in a plastic cup. We actually got about 15 of their tiny shot cups out of it. LOL But just to give you an idea of the size of their shot cups, they were probably not even ¼ of a normal shot glass.
We only made a couple of the shows on the cruise because so many of them started late. We would make great plans to go to something but by 10:00 pm would be too tired and go to the room. I didn’t lose any money in the Casino and actually won a little bit. I didn’t gamble any the last day for fear of losing what I had won. lol I’ll save my winnings to take to Vegas if our trip there materializes. Sorry to ramble so much my friends. Just know I missed you all and did think of you once or twice when I was eating something I shouldn’t. eating-cookies-smiley-emoticon.gif

pretty-pink-welcome-smiley-emoticon.gifto all the Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.

Sending love, good thoughts and sunshine to all of you and I hope you all have a Happy and Healthy Day!

Lisa - I hope you will complain about the TV. I consider it assault. So unnecessary these days when everyone has a personal entertainment system. I am always asking people to turn music etc off or down.

I searched on line for healthy starters and found some cauliflower fritters that I can make tomorrow and freeze for Boxing Day for my son and DDIL and also keep another batch for New Years Eve for the vegetarian dinner. Will do a yoghurt raita to go with it and those that like it (me! ) can have chilli sauce. Actually my son will join me and DSIL's partner, who is Indian by origin, has chilli sauce with everything. . :D
Boxing Day the main is Mediterranean Fish Soup. Haven't got my veggie main yet.

Love Heather UK, who is rereading THINNER THIS YEAR. I am trying to lose two pounds by Christmas. So far it's going well.

im home from the vet yet again, 2 scripts for the eye later and 105.00 out of the checking account and hopefully it will be an uneventful trip... this is my first time sitting down since 3;30 this morning. went up to see Dad, and DD and DGD Taliah wasn't thrilled with the jeans I got her but there is a stuffed cat coming in the mail for her..
she grabbed me by the hand and I went with her up to her bus stop, and got her on the bus, then came down and spent a few mins with Tracy, then up to Doris's ,then to get my haircut.. then to the P.O., LIBRARY and to check on neighbors house.. then came home and found Homers eye all swollen so off to the vet.. now I am sitting and having a cup of tea before I have to start with vaccuming the car and start packing it, and make the bed and make dinner.. I need a nap now, but cant or I wont sleep tonight..

WELCOME BACK, DJ !!! <3 So glad you had a lovely time. :D Your day on the beach sounds a hoot!
We hardly spoke to anyone on our cruise. Everyone was so OLD.! We got on well with the staff. I must say our food was superb too and I didn't put on any weight. It was such an active holiday. Now I've got to wait until next August for our next one. Don't you feel sorry for me. :o

Greetings from a very cold Omaha where the wind chill is -9 degrees. Thank God for my Land’s End squall coat because I am never cold wearing that.

    Gayla: welcome! Sprechen sie Deutsch?

Charlene: sounds like you got a good workout.

    Joni55: welcome to you too

Rori: nice to see you too! I remember our lunch together with Jane fondly

Re: hooray for the sweater that fits!

Joyce: get rid of that cough

Lenora: glad that is over with! I keep telling myself I will have my colonoscopy but I want light anesthesia not the sedation meds. I am not worried about the procedure itself, just that. I have given those drugs to many, many people in the ED and didn’t like them then! There is someone here who uses a pediatric prep for her adults and it is very gentle but effective, and I know this person from when she was a resident so I may have to see if she is accepted by my insurance.

Katla: I always thought that vitamin D stuff was a fad, but when I complained about my chronic exhaustion I had mine checked and low and behold it was low! Two weeks of supplements and I feel a ton better!

Beth: hunker down up there and stay warm!

Sherry: sounds delightful! I have never been to that part of the country

Heather: (((hugs))) to you and DH to get through the drama

Lisa: I have a cousin in Odessa

Lois: keeping you and DH in my prayers!

Pip: great picture of the gang!

DJ: glad you had fun; you deserved a great vacation!

OK well now I need to go on my midday walk which I have been avoiding for weeks. Gotta get back in the swing of things. Take care and stay warm. Meg from Omaha

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the welcomes and motivation on this page. I am amazed at how much I like it. I Never wanted to do this before with people I don't know but have been pleasantly surprised and have come back three days in a row. So thanks. Living in south Florida we are waiting for some of that cold air to make its way down here. Time to turn the a|c off. We had a record high of 87 this week. It is forecast to cool off tomorrow. Yeah! Have a fabulous day.

DJ- welcome back! I am so glad to hear that you had a great time. It is nice to be able to meet other people whose company you can enjoy. Love Senior Frogs! They always try to make everyone have a good time at their establishment. Their prices are very reasonable as well. I am definitely waiting to see pictures of your vacation!

Becca: Thanks for the good travel wishes. I'd hoped we'd be albe to go today because there are no conflicts on the calendar. It is blustery this morning, and not a good travel day. :ohwell:

Penny: I'm happy that you stopped by. I've been missing your posts. (((hugs)))

Heather: One of the good things about Amazon is that they've made it possible for a lot of small, home-based businesses to compete in the marketplace. I buy several things on a regular basis that would cost me lots more in the stores, or that aren't available in the stores here. I started buying Endangered Species individually wrapped 72% dark chocolate squares in a local store but they stopped carrying them. (50 calories per square) Amazon came to the rescue. This particular product is sold by an organization that is trying to protect the rain forests in the Amazon basin in South America. Buying from them is an example of things I appreciate about Amazon.

Lois: Welcome to onederland! Great work. :star: I understand your feelings about your DH. Mine is in a comparable situation. He's been type 1 diabetic since age 18, has MS and has had a stroke that left him partially blind. Luckily he passes vision tests for driving. He's had three back surgeries to clear out arthritic deposits in tiny nerve channels on his neck and lower back. The most recent was just a couple of years ago. The first was over twenty years ago. I hope things go well for both of our DH's.

Lillian: We don't Christmas Tree hunt anymore, either. I have living trees that I bring into the house and tiny artificial trees on counters and tabletops. My live trees are Alberta Spruce trees and they aren't very big. The largest lives in a red plastic bucket/planter. I can easily carry it into the house without help so far. The new one is in a much smaller ornamental pot. The trees are very slow growing and manage to live through a month indoors in the winter. Perfect for us!

Lisa: I've always been a non-fan of TV's in waiting rooms until I happened to see the morning news that revealed a connection between medicine I'd taken for years and Alzheimers. I've changed my life for the better because of that morning news show in the waiting room.

DJ: Congratulations of a fun filled voyage.

We have a windstorm this morning. DH and I just came back from putting an additional heater on the boat and making sure that all is tied securely. He got seasick down there and is having a lie down. I'm glad that we don't have to be anywhere today. I'd hoped to take wreaths to my parent's graves today, but we'll wait for calmer weather. Snug at home is good.

Welcome home, DJ. I'm glad you had a great trip.
Lois - Congrats on that milestone loss!
Lisa - Hope you have a safe journey home. Sounds like the roads are pretty bad/

I've been reading a great deal of British historical fiction lately. Now I am almost finished with a non fiction work called "Women of the Cousins' War". We sometimes refer to this period as the War of the Roses (York and Lancaster). When I was little my mother used to say that she and my dad had ancestors on opposite sides of the War of the Roses and that's why they bickered all the time! My daughter-in-law is working on our geneology so I'll see if she can let me know which side was which.

Tonight starts my work week - Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Need to think about getting ready.

Verna – I will tell you what my DOGD tells her step-mom; “You did not put the weight on overnight; it won’t come off overnight.” Losing it slowly is the best way to help you in doing so without getting to your goal and then gaining it all back and then some. My DDnL#1 has at least 100lbs to lose and she is considered tall at 5’9”; but, she never lost any of her ‘baby weight’ from her first child. Of course, DOGD has put on that “Freshman 15” plus every year she’s been in college (3 years) and she is very short at 5’0”. But, she gets her feelings hurt so easily; but, I have told her that 1500+ calories in is way too much for her. She is relatively active walking from one class to another; but, she says that her boyfriend tends to eat the wrong things and it is difficult to cook for just one person, so she has been eating way too much ‘fast food’. But, her build is also not helping her. The only time she was fairly slim was in HS when she was a ‘cheerleader’ and on the ‘dance line’. I wish that I could tell each of them that they’d be so much better if they lost the weight.

Re – When it rains, I head home. I don’t know where all the people come from; but, they are ‘awful’ drivers, usually with 4 adults and about 6 unrestrained kiddos bouncing around. They never use a turn signal and until you absolute SEE them turning, they might have had their blinker on since the last turn they made. I don’t drive to town any more than I absolutely have to. Thankfully, got all my Christmas shopping done and all that are going to Louisiana are packed into a leaf bag so they’ll be ready to go on Saturday.

Joyce – DOGD (DOS’s from a previous marriage who has lived with them since she was 14 (now 20) is very, very short at 5’0”; the MGD is tall like her Mama; the youngest two are 11 and 10 and both are heavy by about 15 to 20lbs. The 11-year-old wears a uniform to school; and, regular clothes during the week. A couple of months ago, we called on an early Sunday morning and DYS said that DDnL#2 and DMYGD was giving her Mama ‘fits’ because she did not like how things fit her. He was in the den … said he was not going to get involved with the ‘girls’. I laughed and told him … you have not seen it yet, a few more years and he will know what I am talking about. “GEE, thanks Mom!”
I had a cough that lingered on forever (I usually do at least 2x a year). GP and PAs were giving me everything they could ‘throw at me’ and it too my ‘lung MD’ to finally Rx Prednisone and that knocked it out in about 3 days. While I don’t like ‘steroids’ because how they make me feel (bloated) … I wanted something to make it go away before it turned into pleurisy. I had already had bronchitis.

Pip – The dog on the left is thinking, ‘get used to it, kiddo’; the dog on the right is thinking ‘I don’t think so’!

    Lenora
