Just made my turkey burgers. A pound of turkey thigh mince makes 6 burgers. We have two each for dinner with salad or veg (me with chilli sauce and DH with mango chutney) I always add defrosted and well drained (pressed against a sieve) frozen leaf spinach, 10 oz, which makes them moist, chopped scallions, garlic, fresh chilli, lots of seasoning, Worcestershire sauce and whatever herb is around. Normally I use fresh mint, but DH threw the pot away, so I used some fresh tarragon I had frozen. I cook all the burgers in a dry fry and then have the last two cold for lunch the next day. Yummy! Each burger is about 100 cals.
If you had fresh turkey mince you could freeze them and cook from frozen.

DH is sorting through his old football programmes and has reduced 6 boxes to 1. The rest he is throwing away! He hasn't been able to find anyone who wants them. The earliest ones are 1969. :'(
The viewing on Monday went ok and they are still thinking about it. They want to replace the French windows, which are pretty much shot. I am not holding my breath. :noway:
I did throw out most of my poetry magazines yesterday and just kept a very few which contained poems by friends and old boyfriends.

    Morning ladies!

Sherry what a cute little town. I lived in a town that size during my high school years. You sound happy.

Pip loving the doggie pics. Our Pokey would never sit still for pics like that one.

    Joyce feel better!

Can't say we ever had racoons in our homes but in Connecticut we had quite the family of mice in the attic. The hubs would go up weekly and collect the traps and then reset them with peanut butter. The kids were very small at that time and would say "Daddy go up!"

Accompanied the hubs to the gym this morning. So early but got in 5000 steps already and it's just 9am.

Tomorrow I have colonoscopy prep and then Fri the deed will be done. I have jello, low sodium chicken broth, popsicles, clear Powerade on hand. Nothing red or grape. Still know I will be hangry all day. You would think this would get easier since I've been doing this for a while. Mother had colon cancer while I was in high school. I'll get it done but not happily.

Readjusted my eating and the tenths of pounds are falling off slowly. Soon I will be out of the 190's (again) and especially after tomorrow. So feeling good about this development.

Supposed to be in the 30's around these parts tomorrow night. Got notice from landlord as to what we are responsible to do in order for outside faucets and pipes don't freeze.

    Laters,
    Cheri

Oooooohhhh I'm all excited now! :D:D:D Just got our documents for our Yucatan Peninsular (Mexico ) trip in January. I've hardly given it a thought in ages with the house business preoccupying us, but it feels more real now. The company also have an app so we can see everything easily, with pics. :D It should be fantastic! I will have to think about clothes after Christmas. I like to be covered up in hot climates with light, loose clothes. I still have some I bought for Sri Lanka. DH has still to book the airport parking. ;)

Michele – I wouldn’t say that our local Mellow Mushroom is all that loud, even compared to other restaurants we go to. Maybe more so in the bar section. It tends to be a draw to younger people and the music waifs from out of it a lot. We are still able to talk to one another, without having to ‘scream’ at one another.

Yeah, losing mother so close to the holidays has made it one of my least favorite holiday. This Thanksgiving was the first one without DYS (and his family); but, I understand the reason. I just wish I could be packed into DOS’ SUV and go with them. But, it really would not be that much fun since they would be hunting the entire week.

The difference between an 8P and an 8short is that the 8P is usually shorter through the ‘stride’ [what I call ‘stride’ is from the waist to the crotch]. Regular sized women's clothing is designed for a woman roughly 5'5" tall and will not fit properly on someone who is significantly shorter. Petite clothes have shorter sleeve, length, and torso measurements. Some petites also have narrower shoulders. In addition, the best petite clothing will be more than just scaled down versions of misses’ styles. Well-designed petite clothing uses styles specifically chosen to flatter the petite figure. For example, a designer can give petites a longer, slimmer look using such features as vertical stripes, scaled down prints, smaller buttons and trims, and monochromatic color schemes.

I can wear a 12short; but, I cannot wear a 12P (they'd be 'high waters'). When I go to buy things like jeans; I cannot wear a 12regular; I’d have to cut off about 6” off the hem. 12shorts are more difficult to come by than 12regulars. I’m barely 5’4”. I wear a lot of yoga pants and/or skinny jeans – easier to find them that actually fit me. I have a long body but my legs are normal length, just not a ‘regular’. Sometimes I find things in the misses’ department, occasionally I will go look in the ‘petite’ department. If a dress, for instance has a waistband; it is almost ALWAYS too short-waisted for me. I do better to buy a straight waist-less dress and put a belt on it at my waist. Which would be about 3” further down (to be at my belly button). Usually, it is just a lot easier for me to buy a skirt and blouse.

Just about a month ago, I bought my first size 10 and a S in another item. Whoo-Hoo!

Got the package in mail this AM; will put the check in the mail (maybe today) but more likely tomorrow. Thanks!

Becca – I have one of those plastic little folders for my MFP info. I run off my daily pages of tracking to take to my nurse/MD and she scans them into their records. She reviews them before I come back and we discuss whether I am getting enough water or the right choices for the meals I prepare and my exercise. Today, I will finish off the rest of the gumbo we got out of the freezer. DH has hinted very strongly that he’d like for DYS to make some gumbo for him to bring home for us, even will pay for the ingredients. I don’t know if that will happen unless they get rained out one day.

My grandmother had a phone from the 30’s/40's (or whenever they were able to have a phone in their home) not a crank phone where you would have to get an operator to connect the call. One of those that was very heavy and curved up and the receiver looked oversized. The phone company would always tell her she needed a ‘new’ phone; but, she insisted it worked just find. It had an usual ring to it as well.

My ‘smart phone’ is smarter than I am – I don’t use it except to make and receive calls and the ‘camera’. I don’t understand why it continuously tells me I have 39 updates on it. The battery runs down every other day – it is a P.I.T.A. if you ask me. And, it keeps telling me that my storage is getting too full. I’ve used it to track my food when I was not near my laptop or desktop. I don’t know what is going on with my laptop. I keep it plugged in when I am typing and don’t take the battery out of it. Too difficult to get back in. Told it does not matter because when it is plugged in it will be charging. But, last night it again told me it was 11% left on battery than, it went totally ‘black’ and would not come on. So I checked all my connections. Everything was fine; this AM I changed the hole in the surge protector to see if it would come on and it did.

Sue – When my niece and her family moved from the Atlanta area to a community just outside of Denver – she would NOT drive in the snow the first winter they were out there. Her neighbor who take the kids to school and pick them up would laugh at her, she'd walk the kids to school or she'd walk to the grocery store, if she had to. The first time it snowed, she figured it would be a ‘snow day’ … only about 3” on the ground. She called neighbor and asked if it was a ‘snow day’ and was told ‘No, and she’d be by to pick up the kids’. Later it snowed again, just more, same story, ‘this is not a ‘snow day’; then one morning the phone rang and it was ‘blizzard conditions’ and her neighbor called and told her ‘Jenn, THIS is a snow day’ out here in Colorado. Twelve inches already on the ground and still snowing.

Sherry – That is definitely darn cheap livin’. My health insurance is about $110 more than that. We cannot downsize any further than we have already and still be able to live I the same quarters. I’ve got to wrap presents today. I need to go have my battery for laptop checked out today as well as pick up a shirt that I had to take to tailor to fix.

Janetr – That’s funny. I wonder what it would be called if you were taller than your Dad? Both my boys are significantly taller than their Dad who says he is 5’5” … he is stretching that by a couple of inches. They’re 5’10.5” and 5’10” tall. There used to be a man in their hunting club who was very short; but, proportionate to his height. I’d say maybe 4’7” if that. Our DYS would stand on his tippy toes to try to be taller. Then when he did grow taller, he’d always comment on it. He liked being taller than just about anybody. But, he is of an average age. Karl Malone, the basketball player (now retired) and his brother came down to hunt and DYS only came up to the logo on his shirt. The picture was also take with Karl’s younger brother who was built like a ‘freight train', and almost as tall as his brother. A head shorter than Karl. DYS said he was one of the nicest people he had met, and he has met a lot of celebrities in his time.

Charleen – I think the best Christmas we ever had when we were young marrieds was the Christmas that Mother ‘made’ things for us. A large manger scene for me, 12 hand-painted china cups for dear oldest sister, I cannot remember what she made for middle sister. I brought my manager scene home and it really did not look like it was finished yet (as the one she had made for middle sister the year before). I brought it home, and did a wash of brown paint over it and rubbed it down; it really changed what it looked like and it was exactly what it needed to have been done to it.

Pip – You and anybody else who want snow can have it … I want to wear shorts on Christmas Day and have to stay ‘home’.

Joyce – That reminds me, I need to buy my girls some gold wrapped coin candy and a bag of coal for each. I guess I could find a few ‘switches’ somewhere around here. After having a nagging cough for over a month last winter; I finally just gave in and called the lung MD (C-pap MD) and he put me on Prednisone … knocked it out within 3 days. I don’t like having to take a ‘steroid’; but, would do so in a NY minute to get that cough that makes your chest ache out of there.

Gloria – My DYS had what I ‘think’ they call a cross bite. Half of his front teeth closed over the front of the lower teeth; the other half closed behind the lower teeth; he had to wear a retainer and headgear and it had a spring that pushed the ones that closed behind the teeth to where they close over the front teeth; then as a teenager, he had to wear braces; to get them all lined up. DOS did not wear his retainer after getting his teeth straightened, so now he has a small gap in the middle. He could probably have a retainer made to bring it back together. But, his teeth are much stronger than DYS’s are. DYS has his Dad’s teeth; I have my Dad’s. Very short; but, very good; but, I have an awful case of TMJ and sleep with a ‘night guard’ to keep from gritting and grinding my teeth while I sleep. I just had the 2nd one made; and BC/BS would ‘not’ pay for it as it had with the first one. After 6 months of going back and forth with them, finally gave up because dentist did not have a ‘medical code’ to use; even though he sent all his records about my TMJ problems. $750 for a piece of plastic. Pillows – ‘flat hair apparatus, for those of us who sleep on our backs’.

NYKaren: Sorry about the lost post. That is why I usually type mine into a word document and then copy and paste it into the thread.

Margaret: We're working on getting our house raccoon proofed. So far it is a work in progress. Eventually it will cost thousands to put new insulation under the house. We can't handle that right this minute. For now we're just closing off access so they can't get in any more. :ohwell:

Charleen and Barbie: We haven't had snow yet, but this morning is our first frost for the season. I can see it on the sidewalks, the docks, and the grass. It is time to tuck the fuchsias underneath the rhododendrons for shelter. Sasha's new coat looks like a great idea.

Yoga today! I look forward to it because it is good exercise and my fellow students are a nice bunch of people.

Today is the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in WWII. My dad served on a destroyer escort in the Soloman Islands. Thank you to all our veterans and active duty service people for helping to keep us free.

Cheri sounds like you are making great weight loss progress. Sorry about the "deed" but won't it feel terrific to eat afterwards. I have to have my first colonoscopy this summer. not looking forward to it.

Gonna hit the gym right after work, then have to face.....Walmart.....sorry, the last place in the world I ever want to shop at. But they are the only place that carries lids for my canning jars....I will get in and hopefully get out without much of a fuss, but I am very agoraphobic when it comes to that store, especially the one in my town...it is an abysmal experience. Okay, whining is over.

I'm looking forward to making all kinds of spiced/sugared nuts for neighbor and family gifts this year. Sweet and spicy pecan, and candied walnuts. Think everyone will appreciate that, hopefullly, and will go well alongside my usual little baked goods.

Hello all! I read a couple of pages of posts this morning, but didn't have time to comment on any ones post in particular. I will just say: Enjoying all of the dog pics, raccoon stories, scenery/village pics, weight/health news, etc.
Barbie- Sasha looks very proud in her new winter wear! She needs boots!
Heather- THat's right! Your Mexico trip is coming up! Totally forgot with the talk of home sale/purchase. Exciting! IF I remember correctly you have a couple of excursions planned to the ruins?!
Karen- I need to be adopted into your family! Your gift of spiced nuts sounds delish! Most years I give home made jam/jelly, bread, and or wine to my siblings. The grape harvest wasn't good this year as the early cold ruined most of the grapes and birds and deer got the rest. :( So no jams or wine to give.
Anyone have any good home made gift ideas? Keep in mind, I am not a crocheter, quilter, or knitter (no time for those at this late of date even if I could).
According to the latest weather report, we have a Winter Storm Warning in effect from tonight to Friday noon. 1-2 inches of snow per hour (for 36 hours). If we get it, it will be fluffy snow due to the cold that is coming with us. Fingers crossed! I love winter and shoveling is ALWAYS a great work out.
Here are Monday and Tuesday's daycare crafts. Handprint Santas and Clothespin Reindeer Ornaments. I love how the little ones faces on their crafts look somewhat like Dali or Picasso Jr.l7u1fcuc5u9g.jpg

Hello Ladies - Greetings from cold and blustery SD. While I'm not quite 50, I will be there soon. I'm married and have one very spoiled feline fur baby.

There was a quote I saw recently that said "though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending." Today I start my brand new ending. Life can be busy and stressful and filled with lots of excuses why I don't put myself first but I need to make lifestyle changes now or I will soon regret it. I'm currently at my highest adult weight which is extremely depressing. I set loss goals for myself today - and if I can lose one pound a week (which seems realistic), I will reach my goal weight just in time for my birthday next Fall.

I've been on MFP for awhile but it's been a couple years since I was really focused. At that time, I met a group of ladies who were a phenomenal support team as we all worked towards our wellness goals, whatever they were. Unfortunately, I have lost touch with most of them. They have reached their goals and moved on. But here I am once again. So, I look forward to "meeting" you and if there's anyone who would like to add me as an MFP friend, I would love the support.

Take care (and thank you for reading this)!

KJL ~ What cute crafts! I know all of your customers love you.

The Pom messed his backside up greatly this AM and I had to throw him in the shower. Getting down on my knees to do so really aggravated my knee. Pain both above and below so finally took an Alleeve. I know that I need to take the dive into going to the Ortho Doc to see about knee replacement but just hate to think about it.

kj you are too crafty! Just not the knitting kind of crafty. Are you thinking about food gifts? Or more like memory gifts, like photo books?? I always like a nice ornament with old photos inside or glued on the outside. Pinterest has lots of ideas as well. But nothing beats a family photo or beautiful landscape photo imo.

Today was my TOPS meeting and I was a turtle, (which means that I did not lose or gain for this past week). I will TAKE it!! We had a gift exchange and all twenty of us sat in a circle and as one lady said "Twas the Night before Christmas story" (she added lefts' and rights' in the story so we were passing like crazy women). It was fun and the lady that got my Christmas bear figurine, I got her pretty ornament. After that we did our Christmas auction, and there is one lady that makes her famous butter rolls. Those went for $10 a bag (maybe 8 in a bag). Another lady had brought some woven sweet bread from a local bakery, and those went for $11 a loaf. All the funds went into our treasury fund. We had a lady also bring Christmas arrangements, with fancy bows, and some with battery powered lights. The large table decoration went for $20 and the promise that she would fill the silver platter next year with decorations. Some talented people in our group. I piped up now and then to get the prices up, and I did get a white lavender bath set (for myself that my teenager son will be giving to me) LOL.

We had a party after that and there were some yummy things. One lady had brought Sockeye Salmon that she had canned in jars. We had a great season this year for the fishermen, and man that was good smeared on a cracker with some dressing on top. There was plates of shrimp, and a bunch of Jello themed salads. We do this once a year and many put a lot of effort into it. I help set up and clean up. That is my contribution. Oh and I hugged a lot of the ladies, because well its a gift that is always appreciated. :-)

Sounds like many of you are doing maauvalous! To lose during this time of year is phenomenal!! I am so proud of you!! I was relieved to be a cute little fat turtle....

Well I have a $20 burning a hole in my pocket so I think I will go and buy as many little things as I can....

Verna: Our work here to improve our health is like the race between the tortoise and the hare. You know who wins. Be patient with yourself and stay strong.

KJLaMore: Food is always a lovely gift. Make bread or a cookie tray for someone you love who needs the extra calories. A selection of teas and/or fruit in a cute basket are also good gifts.

    Maggie: Welcome.

Yoga this morning was a welcome treat. I've had to miss a couple of sessions due to DH's eye appointments. The next one is in a couple of weeks. Today is clear, sunny and cold in my part of the world and I'm making chicken soup for dinner. It is still early afternoon and I'll have plenty of time to let the chicken cool and get the meat off of the bones before I add veggies & pasta to the pot.
