CBS Morning show is drawing me in & away from Today. Rita Moreno @ age 85, looking 20 years younger was on and will be starring tv series remake One Day At A Time. Inspiration to me to see one so youthful in looks & spirit. Also read recent article on Dana Delaney of China Beach fame--- looks fantastic also -- 30 years of yoga, was a pudgy youngster. She says her slim-in-their-younger-days friends struggle now. Combining these two as role models...20 years from now feels hopeful. I have been feeling terribly old at 62.... looking back think I can contribute it to a very rough 2016. A weight feels like it's lifting.......7

Good morning! So much interesting info and just fun chatter already this morning.
Barbiecat: I love Robert B Parker books too! Spenser was my favorite of the 3 characters. Love his sarcastic sense of humor in his books. I haven’t read anything new because I know he passed away and someone else is now continuing those books and I just somehow felt weird about that. But I am planning to rent some from the library again because those were my favorite. I haven’t rried Sue Grafton’s books but have often thought I might like them.
I also love the idea of marinara sauce over steamed cauliflower. I saw some in the freezer section of our grocery store where it is “riced” and frozen (also a riced broccoli product) that I thought would be a great alternative to rice, pasta and potatoes!
Kim: Love your gratitude list. Thank you for sharing and helping me keep things in perspective.
Everyone: I’m going to have to look up the recipe for this Spinach-Feta pie everyone is talking about! Did I see that it is from Skinnytase?
Also, I think I will have to check out the iPhone Health app I saw mentioned a few times. Thanks for the tips!
Liz: Do you get podcasts on your phone also, Liz? I haven’t listened to any. Where did you find the podcast “Serial”? I think I would like listening to those.
Katla: Thanks for the giggle--“Pip: I don't mind walking in 33 degrees because I don't create my own windchill. Be safe.” Love your Tibetan proverb by the way!
It is -3 here today, but the wind chill factor has us at -23F. I'm trying to stay inside as much as possible. Working from home today. I'm lucky it is an option for me.
Yesterday, I went to the orthopedic doctor to get okayed to wear a pair of specially made orthotics which we thought would help my left hip, knee and ankle issues. The therapist who fitted me for them wasn't comfortable giving them to me until I was seen and had xrays taken of my foot because it has been hurting for months now. I had assumed it was because I limp a bit when the rest of my leg is acting up. Well, it turns out I have a fractured bone. It didn't show up on xray but is positive on other testing. Tomorrow morning I have to have an MRI to rule out a Jones fracture. I'm not very happy about this. They put me in a boot immediately and said to keep pressure off that foot until we know more. Seems silly to me since I've been walking around on it for months already. Anyway, I'm disappointed because i was so excited for 2017 to be the year I take my life back and get fit! If I have a Jones fracture, it can take anywhere from 8 weeks to 20 weeks on crutches and boot cast plus surgery to fix. Not going to be easy to exercise if that is the case. So, I'm praying it is something easily fixed.
I love the 1 lbs of veggies idea. The plates look so good in the pictures, that I made myself a plate for the day when I got up this morning.
I hope everyone has a fantastic day today!

Tracie sorry about your leg. I am modifying my exercise because of my knee. I am doing more stretching, stomach, and arm work. It is also getting me to get back into meditation, too. The important thing is to give my knee a chance to heal.
I feel the cold too here in Minnesota.
Margaret3 -
Oh Tracie, so sorry to hear about your foot. Will pray for a good report. I am sure you would want to get rid of the pAin so hopefully your doctor Can help you. 2017 has just begun so you will have time to take your life back. Hang in there.

Good morning -
So much to read! You are busy bees.
Tracie - I have read Sue Grafton and love Robert B. Parker. My first love is mysteries but I am currently into historical fiction about England. Right know I am reading about Katherine, Henry VIII's first wife. I have read other fictional works about her and some non fiction as well. I've also enjoyed reading about Isabella of Spain, her mother. I work part time at a quiet YMCA and get to use some of the down time reading. Love that!
Kelly - Such a funny story about the little guy in his birthday suit! I am a retired elementary teacher and I know Art Linkletter was right - Kids say (and do) the darndest things. Teacher friends and I have often joked that teachers could write the funniest books. I certainly have some tales!
Joyce - so glad you got to choir practice. I know the excitement of getting new music can be very special. Glad you were up to going and could push threw your pain to do something you love. Take care and don't do too much.
I'm sorry I confused some of you about my birthday.. I wrote about other family birthdays and then later said something about 64 (I meant degrees). For the record, I turn 68 in OCTOBER.
VEGETABLES - Okay, ya'll, yesterday I ate a half pound of raw veggies for a snack. Yeah! Maybe a pound is doable for me!
It is fun to see the pictures from you Newbies. Thanks!
I work from 4-9 tonight. It is supposed to snow a little. A little worried about getting up my hill. Everything shuts down when there is just a bit of snow so maybe we will close early. I'm from Kansas where snow rarely caused a panic. But then it's very flat and people grew up knowing how to drive in it.

Hi Lovely Ladies
Just thought I would check in with you before I brave the cold to go to my spin class! Hope you are all ok and keeping on track. Will be having my first weigh in tomorrow so I hope to have at least lost some of the holiday bloat!! Wish me luck

Shanda Sanders here - New Year, new determination, old goals. I successfully lost 20 lbs last spring with MFP, then got lazy & put 17 back on! I'm turning 50 in 23 days & I'm sick & tired of telling myself that "someday" I'll get back to a healthy weight! I saw an inspirational poster recently that hit home for me: There are seven days in a week and "Someday" isn't one of them!! So, I re-upped my gym membership, talked my daughter & my fiance into joining too & I am focused & ready to rearrange my priorities! Here's to a healthier 2017!!9
-
We got another 6 inches of snow overnight. This is in addition to the 4 inches already on the ground from the day before. Was out bright and early with the Snow Beast moving it off the driveways and out to the street. By 11am I had done 5 driveways and came inside to relax.
Checked my email and got very good news I can share! My quilt titled 'Snowbird' has been juried into the AQS Lancaster 2017 show in Lancaster PA!!! Thousands submit entries but only a couple hundred are accepted. Mine entry was accepted!
This makes it a semi-finalist. I am hoping I can ribbon, I've had quilts accepted before but they were just not up to snuff compared to the ribbon winners. Keep your fingers crossed for me, and if by chance you are attending this quilt show, please let me know! I'd love to have a photo of the quilt hanging in the show.
Also my DD gave me a beautiful birthday gift. I love roses, I love growing roses. She has ordered a rose bush to be delivered this Spring so I can plant it in my rose garden. Isn't beautiful?
Charleen in Colorado(Burned those calories early this morning!)10 -
Charleen~ woooo hoooo hope you get that ribbon..
well I have been out doing stuff.. DFIL was into a talkative mood, so didnt stay long..
then over to Walmart and picked up my comforter and mattress pad.. then stopped at credit union to order checks as soon as I get those then I will be having my paycheck changed over into my account only.. will then help pay bills that way.. but I will be in control of my paycheck.. took all deeds and any papers that looked important and went to work and made copies and put the originals back where I found them..
laundry in the dryer and will make dinner in a bit..
Yes I am still cooking and cleaning..but all bets will be off once Tom gets served with papers.. I will not be a petty or vengeful person.. I am working slowly and methodically to get through what I need to..calmly and clearly...8 -
-
Charleen pics of the quilt please!! Congrats
Allie you sound very determined, we are all behind you!
So my trick of wearing something happy, my purple shirt with colorful scarf totally worked! Fake it til you make it, I started the day very down and just pretending that I was put together (colorful and professional) really made the difference, go figure
NYKAREN3 -
Charleen OMG! That is wonderful news about your quilt being accepted into the Lancaster juried quilt show! Congratulations! I hope you can go to the show and see it hanging there yourself instead of relying on others to photograph it for you...
Joyce So glad the songbird made it to choir practice! So therapeutic.
Shanda Love the wisdom. You are right, there are 7 days in a week, and "Someday" isn't one of them!
Tracie Hope the foot fracture turns out to be a fast-healing thing that requires no surgery. Got my fingers crossed!
RLady Cute pups in a wagon! We have 4 - a Coton, a Yorkie mix, and 2 Yorkies, ranging in age from 1 to 15.
From left to right: Bailey (Coton), Molly (Yorkie in the bumper collar), Mabel (blonde Yorkie), and Farley (dark Yorkie mix on the right). Bailey is 12, Molly is 1, Mabel is 6, and Farley is 15.
Car failed inspection because of a recall I didn't know about, so spent a couple of hours this morning getting that taken care of. Car is fixed, inspected, and for good measure, full of gas and air for the tires. Other than that, I went to Jazzercise and grocery-shopped, and that is all I have accomplished so far today! Feel as if the day is getting away from me, there are so many other things I want to get done today, as I am back to busy, busy work tomorrow and will have nose to the grindstone for several days in a row.
Planning blackened grouper with homemade slaw and lightly steamed vegetables for dinner tonight. Will provide some nice whole grain bread, lettuce & tomato, for a sandwich option if desired. Fish is very fresh from a local market. I will pass on the bread. Right now I have the remains of a Costco rotisserie chicken in my pressure cooker, making broth. The dogs will be the lucky recipients of any edible leftovers once the broth is strained, defatted, and frozen. We recently got an upright freezer, which we put in the garage. It's a whole new world with adequate freezer space!
Time to feed the dogs and get on with the rest of my day!
Eating my veggies today with an avocado mashed and combined with plain yogurt. Usually I just eat them plain, this is a nice change. By the way, the green smoothies yesterday, which used up the baby spinach, were quite good but I missed "crunching". I think the smoothie might be a good way for people who aren't crazy about veggies to up the veggie intake, as it is very easy to drink a smoothie and could even be combined with fruit...
Re I know you are busy out there, but please come back soon!

"That which lies within our power to do, also lies within our power not to do." ~Aristotle
This helps prevent me from making poor choices.
I lost 26 lbs in 10 weeks over Thanksgiving & Christmas, which I think is pretty spectacular, so I'm going to keep doing that.
I'm adding regular (dog) walks to January just for the movement. I turn 50 this month!! w00t!8 -
Charleen - Congrats! I'd love to see it.
Expresso - You met a wonderful challenge losing that much over the holidays. Tell us more about yourself and a "name" you want to use.
Lenora - Those storms sounded so severe. Glad you are okay.
Margaret - lovely nature pictures. I can almost smell the flowers!
I work @ 4 today and need to get bean soup in the crockpot. I'll eat late when I get home.

Toni ~ We are getting a bit of snow (Maybe) Fri night.
DJ ~ You are a really good friend! I can't imagine how much work you have had to do to get your friend's house ready and the housewares gone.

For all the ladies in the 40lbs loss by May 27th Challenge - Fitness Test where you did as many of the three exercises in a minute, I finally figured out that they wanted you to pick one of the exercises for the challenge this month. I picked push-ups. So I am doing push-ups daily to increase the amount by the end of the month.
Charleen- Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day celebrating! Congratulations on your quilt! I remember how beautiful it is.
Allie- it's nice to see you take charge even under horrible circumstances. (((Hugs))). We are all here for you!

Hi - I am in need of some support. I know this weight loss journey is going to take some time. I hope to hear about others' inspiration to keep me going. My goal is to lose 30 lbs. by May 1. I am 53 and retired last July 1, so now I can focus on me. I joined a gym and exercise 4-5 days a week. I take one hour fitness classes. I know that I need the structure of a class. I managed to lose a .5 lb during the holidays and maintain my exercise classes. I have lost 5 lbs since July 1, so now I need to track my calories to lose more. I love how strong I am getting. My stamina and flexibility have improved 100%. I still have a long way to go, but I know I can do it. Thanks for letting me share. Nan in Chesterfield.3

Cheri in Texas – My OB/GYN realized that something was going on when my heartrate did not go back to normal after the birth of DYS; he sent me to an Endocrinologist, he ablated part of my thyroid gland. But, OB/GYN was the one to put me on the medication and watched it. I thought the Endocrinologist was so full of himself that I only went once. Total ‘god’ complex, someone you’d like to knock his ‘chip off his shoulder’.
Canookie – If your husband snores has he ever talked to a MD about getting a ‘sleep study’ done. Snoring is a sign of ‘sleep apnea’ which makes you stop breathing and the snoring if your body basically trying to get air and you ‘gasp’ which make the snoring sound. If he does and gets put on a C-pap; both of you will rest/sleep better. It’s not good on his heart (especially) and other organs to keep on snoring without making sure he does not have it. I’ve been on one for 6 years now; and, I find that I sleep through the night each night because I wear it religiously. I will wake up to go to the bathroom every few nights; but, that is went I fall asleep without going first. I scared my DDnL#2 half to death because I fell asleep on the recliner and stopped breathing one for a little over a minute. She said that I had stopped several times before ... that time she 'timed it'. If I don't wear it or I pull it off my face ... I am exhausted the next day.
I use the butternut squash to make my spaghetti noodles. Cut in half, take out the seeds, put on pan, face down, cook until soft (can’t put a time, it will depend on size). Turn over and take a fork and scrape the insides to look like spaghetti; the top with your favorite sauce. The first time I had it my DnL had made it for us and made her sauce out of venison. They use venison all their ‘red’ meat, most of the time.
Katla – As soon as my lunch goes down, I will get on the treadmill and walk. It’s getting cooler and I don’t like feeling cold, at all, and I am very cold-natured. The quote you made is Matthew 6:34 – Basically … ‘Do not worry about tomorrow’.
Lisa – A cousin-by-marriage [she might have been a former sister-in-law) of my BF had GBS and always had troubles with health. She had her stomach stapled. She passed away because of those issues. Another friend had it done; and she has gained weight after more than a year being thin, a divorce from a man about 14 years older just did not work for her. Third one keep getting ‘sick’ so she had the doctor let the lap band out and she is back on up there.
fitgranny56 – I gave up sodas before I started on MFP; about the time I went on a “Center for Weight Control Loss and adding back regular meals now. I’m losing slowly and even more so now that I am close to my goal weight. I lose and find the same few pounds every time I go to get weighed. More protein and exercise for me, and she told me to add more water. I already drink about 14 cups + 2.1 ounces and don’t know how to force myself to drink more.
richmondlady – I like to see a ‘dog with a smile on its face’. Cracker is a ‘smiling’ dog. We cannot give her anything stuffed, she thinks she needs to tear the stuffing out. I wanted to strangle her when she tried chewing up my ‘flamingo’ slippers that my dear oldest granddaughter gave me right before Christmas … when we went up for her boyfriend’s graduation from school.
Tracie and Toni – The thing about Sue Grafton books is that you need to start with the first one and work through them. She has one character “??? Millhouse” throughout all. She spends about ½of the first chapter talking and describing this same character all over again, and what she had done in the last book. I did not realize this until I had read one that began several down from the “A is for Alibi” (I think that is the name of it). I generally get my library to ‘order’ 2 of them at a time. J.A. Jance is another good mystery writer; her books also have several series and you need to read each series in order. I think I have read all of James Patterson’s books (for adults) except one set in a different age. I cannot remember which one it is but, it talked about castles and fights. Dammit, I think reading “Braveheart” would suffice. Probably be more interesting. I’d like to read “Gone With the Wind”. Murder mysteries are probably my favorite genre. Country Music is also my favorite genre in music; but, I like all music, just NOT Rap.
Shanda – That is a great quote. Type it out and tape it to your fridge (or cabinet) … wherever you generally have your snacks kept.
Charleen – You can keep the snow! Congrats on being accepted into a ‘juried’ show; send us pictures. Beautiful rose. We have a ‘sweetheart’ rose; it has gotten huge, even though we cut it back drastically about every other year. Small pink flowers. When my Daddy was alive and working he always had a bud on his lapel.
Pip – Yes, it does! Tell him I did not say that to ‘hurt his feelings’; but, he asked.
Karen in Virginia – Somebody has an electric/invisible fence. How big of an area? We’ve seen them at PetSmart ranging from $90 - $350; but, that is install it yourself. Got a web site from “Lowe’s” but haven’t gone to it. Another thing we have to take into consideration is how big of an area. So, we’ll basically ‘have’ to put it all the way around the house, back behind the studio and storage shed; behind the grapes, far enough over to miss the asphalt portion of the driveway. Then training her for several weeks. Got a price from a local invisible fencing company and that was ‘out of sight’. Not going there.
Hello to all the “Newbies” – Tell us a little about yourselves and the ‘name’ you prefer to be called, and, a location (general or specific) so we can get to know you.

@fanncy0626 This is a quote from mom22kidsaz
"We are doing all 3 exercises for the challenge. However, you do what works with your body and make any modifications to the exercise. (I think the screenshot says to pick one exercise, but we figured it is a great baseline for different parts of your body.)"
I did see the one exercise notation on the bottom of the image posted.. but followed along with what everyone else was doing and posting. Its confusing.
