Geezus host sounds like real piece of work. I invite 2 people over and I end up cooking enough food for the neighborhood. And yes, I would take offense. That person would see my backside getting smaller as I walked away and I wouldn't give them the time of day after that.

this is just funny to me but I am socially inept. i would have nonchalantly stood up and whispered carefully into their ear "make me a sandwich or the cream puffs die". their reaction to this request would also be a good litmus test for whether or not i would associate with them again.

If it's a sandwich in exchange for the lives of the cream puffs then it better be a fluffernutter.

Poor hosting. I throw BBQ's and parties at my house all the time. Never run out of anything.

You get invited to a bday party. You're just eating a few cream puffs and just enjoying yourself. Then the party host comes to you and tells you to eat less so others can have some of the cream puffs also. Would you be offended?

    Hahaha.

Next time you go over you should bring a container of the cream puffs. I’d hand it to the host and smile. Then go about your business.

Edit: damn this is an old thread. Hahahaha

Ok first off, if you’re having a party you make sure you have enough food for your guests. That’s tacky. I made the treats for my own baby shower, because I’m a crazy person. There were 50 people, I had 300 mini cupcakes. At these types of parties you have to expect people are going to come hungry and graze most of the party. You need to have enough for each person to have at least 2 or 3. There were only about 2 dozen cupcakes left from my party, which we sent off with the guests. I would have been offended if someone said that to me. But it’s their own fault for not planning properly.

    Anyone ever see "Van Wilder"?

Will make you think twice about anything related to "cream" pastries.
  • I was to lazy to read most of this. But I would have added my own brand of "love" to the the pastries and left. And a party with out me bites. Just saying.

That's rude. The hostess is not your mother. Unless she is.

Unless you're a family member, this was rude. There's a principle called "family hold back," which means if your mom or whoever signals you, that you know there's unexpectedly not enough to go around and the family members should pretend to be full so the guests get enough. If you are counted as a family member in this situation you should already know because you probably helped make the food.

One of the situations which can cause an FHB signal is a piggy guest eating all of one dish by him or herself. No you as the host cannot complain, even if the lobster tails were hundreds of dollars and who eats fifteen lobster tails, you'd think she just got out of prison eating like that, I mean really?

Seriously though, my parents have a friend who weighs nearly 700 lbs, and is quite capable of scarfing down an entire large bag of chips and a church social sized tray of Rotel dip, all by himself. We've learned, either don't invite him, or make enough food for everyone else, and then the same amount again just for him. What you cannot, cannot do is invite a guest and then say to a guest in your home, "What is wrong with you, did you just eat an entire football team's worth of food?" You can think it. But not say it.

I think that you have 1, loosely monitor the pastries throughout the event to see if anyone else is eating them, and then circle back towards the end if there are any left and have few more. The hostess made a planning error by not having enough for everyone, but that doesn't mean that a lot of other guests should go without while you have 5, lol.

And, along those same lines, I don't like "community" type food. Dishes of candy, holiday popcorn, etc. Far too many people dig into them with nasty hands. Such as blowing nose, going to the bathroom, etc. without washing their hands. No thanks, I'll gladly pass. Save on the empty calories, as well as the disgusting germs, etc.

While on a cruise I was getting a bowl of fresh fruit salad, from the buffet and an older women in line behind me said, “Leave some for the rest of us!” I turned to her and smiled warmly and replied, “Don’t worry, they will keep refilling the buffet. There’s plenty for everybody!”
