Thank you for the welcome :) Today we cut and loaded firewood. Hubby cuts, son splits, and I mostly load. I am not as fast as I used to be but still chugging along. My goal for this year is to lose 40 pounds and get in better shape. One week at a time... the monthly resolutions here will help me be accountable but not overwhelmed by my goal.
    Have a great day everyone!

Hola! Almost got our tax info collected- waiting on one more form. DH is excellent at organizing. He was awake till one a.m. writing out our discussion about our DD failing a course in college and what we are going to say to her :s Love that guy!

I almost took a nap after the gym but too upset. Think I will hit the grocery store and make a few meals ahead. My dear friends are still in deep trouble with their daughter who has been readmitted to hospital with severe depression. I feel so helpless, they don't want to speak about it but said yes to my offer to make them some make ahead dinners.

Welcome Becky from upstate, I am from downstate NY also a teacher. lost weight to improve my blood pressure and cholesterol and to have more energy, I've found the accountability and encouragement on this forum helps tremendously. Keep at it and every day is a little bit better. NYKAREN

nytytear, I live in southwestern Indiana.

For those that liked my shoes, they are flats, really flats but with arch support and it's insole comes out to fit my orthotic. There is more that some out if needed. They are by Apex. I think the name of my shoes are Janice It comes in several colors. Then they have Lisa, Mary Jane and several other names. I hope, I will be wearing them tomorrow to church. I thought about it and if I go and not sing in the choir, which means sitting in the congregation, I can see how I do standing up since the congregation only stands for 1 song and the offertory.

Unfortunately I will have to go to Christopher&Banks this afternoon buy bigger dress slacks. It has been a looong time since I have done any shopping for myself. After my stent was put in back in August, for quite a while I had so much blood pressure problems that I couldn't go shopping because of extreme weakness. When that finally resolved I was able to resume other activities. But with the weight I gained I wasn't happy about shopping so I just didn't. And I looked bad in the size 14 slacks. I have a lot of long sweaters and they hid my butt. Then the nose bleeds started so after December 10th I haven't been anywhere except for Walmart and that was almost always with Charlie. I just hope the next size,16, will fit me.

Michelle may call today and we go to our local animal control and look at dogs. The rescue agency she works through gets their animals out of Animal control. Some weeks they are desperate to get animals out before they have to be euthanized. Many foster homes have quite a few animals just to make sure no animals are put down. It's a bigger problem getting dogs out than cats and other animals. I guess it is mainly because of the big dogs, pits, german shephards, etc. But the pits are the worse since a lot of apartment won't allow them.

NY Karen so sorry about having to have discussion with daughter. Did she go for tutoring? What can she do to turn this around? Did you pay for the course? What did she learn about herself so it doesn't happen again? I know it it hard to remember, but she needs your guidance at times like these.

I'm also sorry about your friend's daughter. It is an illness. It is a tremendous stress on your friends. Prepping dinners for them is wonderful. Prayers that she is getting the help she needs to find her way out of depression.

Well last night was awful! I went to bed OK nothing to report, but at 1:50AM I woke up to use the bathroom. OK everything normal then my whole abdomen felt tight. Went through the list, gas, feeling sick, acid reflux nothing. It really felt like intense pressure and pain from my ribcage down. No I had no numbness like a heart attack. I actually rolled around, sitting up, leaning, and moaning. It was awful! Husband was no help at all, even trying to hold my hand for mental support. I think I yelled at him saying, "Don't touch me"! It did finally lessen and I just rubbed my abdomen. This morning I am sore but no real pain. What we both have decided that I experienced was a cramp in my abdomen area. Has anyone else experienced this? It was the weirdest thing...

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .

    Good Afternoon My Dear Friends,

Toni, I had to giggle thinking of Shirley cat going to water aerobics with you. cute-kitty-with-big-eyes-smiley-emoticon.gif

Heather, great picture. When I first looked at it I didn’t even see you and your DH hiding among the letters. I do hope you’ll have a few more to share with us but do realize you were out of commission much of the time.

Cheri, great video. Thanks for sharing and good girl for doing it. Keep it up. dumbbell-lifting-smiley-emoticon.gif

Joyce, I know what you mean about having a cool mist when the temperature is already “cool”. Heck, I keep an afghan on me most of the winter if I am sitting on the sofa. I just don’t like to be cold. Glad it helps though.

Sue, glad you had a nice birthday. The dinner sounds like fun. Thanks for the thought on reflux but I don’t think that is what it is. I suffered from reflux for years before I lost weight. I had even forgotten that was one of the good things that happened with weight loss. I am glad to report that the throat is getting better each night.

Katla said, “Joyce: If you ever figure out how to understand men I'll be first in line to buy your book. ” You can count me second in line. Good news on the raccoon front.

Nancy, that is wonderful that you found a yoga class you will enjoy and that it’s at a time that works well for you. Congrats on the shorts fitting. Keep up the good work.

Tracie, that massage sounds wonderful. I keep meaning to schedule one and just don’t do it. massage-therapist-smiley-emoticon.gif

Rayven, welcome. This is a great place for support and information so come often. Please tell us a little about yourself to help us get to know you. It is very helpful if you will sign each post with the name you want to be called and a location, general or specific.

    Becca, great picture!!!

Grace, I hope things calm down for you. Sorry about your DD’s uti but glad her surgery went well. You take care.

Pam, welcome. I had to Google Adelaide to find out where it is. We are always happy to have new ladies from Down Under. Come often.

Heather, I’m happy for you to lose the weight while on holiday, but not the way you lost it. Between you being sick and everything so overpriced it didn’t sound like the most fun it could have been.

Loseweightbb, welcome. This is “the place” for support and information. So sorry for what you have gone through the past few years. How nice that you took in your niece. This weight thing is not so much fun but try not to make it so much of a job and do try to get in some exercise every day. Every little bit helps! Log everything that goes in your mouth and you will notice changes that you may need to make. Just take one step at a time. Please sign each post with the name you want to be called and a location, general or specific.(later) Hi Becky/NY.

Barbie, so glad Sasha and Bess are snuggle buddies. So sweet!

Carey, for heaven’s sake woman, use that fancy cooking pot and let us know what you think. chef-2.gif

Sarah, congrats on your great eating choices when you went out with your friend. Way to go!

pretty-pink-welcome-smiley-emoticon.gifto any Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.

I’m happy to report that I have lost 3 pounds in the past week or so. That is very exciting as the pounds have been hanging on for dear life. Of course it doesn’t hurt that I have started back to eating right and exercising. I hope the more inactive I’ve been while fighting this cold won’t affect my loss. Congrats to all of you with victories.

Sending love, good thoughts and sunshine to all of you.

Happy Saturday to all: Hope you are enjoying your weekend. We are having a lazy day due to rain, rain, rain. I baked some high-fiber bran muffins to have for snacks to up my fiber totals. Also made some chia gel. Did a little walking in the barn while feeding horses and of course scooped poop since the horses stayed inside out of the rain last night.

Where is Mary from MN? Haven't seen a post from her for a while.

Marcelyn - Rest, rest and go to that concert. Yo Yo Ma is worth it. He played for the opening of the Great Hall in Sioux Falls with the SD Symphony. Wonderful and he played an encore which he rarely does.

Becca - No ideas for you but sorry you had such pain.

Barbie - Love the pic of your furbabies.

Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Becca - could have been gas pains http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gas-and-gas-pains/basics/symptoms/con-20019271 When I worked in admin. in two high schools in Canada, I often doubled as the school nurse. When kids came in with similar symptoms I would send them to sit on the toilet with a big glass of warm water - it helped to move the gas through a bit quicker. The pain can be remarkably bad. If you have trouble getting hot tap water down, you can add a bit of lemon to it. Hopefully it won't happen often.

Watching "Fellowship of the Ring" film again just love "Lord of the Rings" books and films

Been on date outing with DH today usually go Sunday but decided on change, good day the bar we like (in Liverpool city centre) had a lot of visitors especially a group of "girls" from Newcastle on a "hen weekend" we get a lot of visitors from all over UK and further afield due to Beatles etc. I love my city, it gets a bad name sometimes but I don't believe we are any worse than any other city in UK we get a lot of bad press because we are "gobby" which means we tell it like it is.

Visitors all say they love the city and the people and they come back and tell their friends to come

Margaret thanks for your concern, just got off the call. Oh my girl, she is growing up and resisting my advice at every turn. A boy is in the picture and I can't be sure it is a good relationship. We spoke at length, pretty tough talk and I laid out that she should check on her school progress daily, and she will make up the course over the summer. She will not join a sorority until she earns the credits this summer and on and on. In the end she said she doesn't want to talk to me for a while :'( I asked her to please reach out to my wonderful sister, who could be great counsel to her. I hope she will do that.

Tomorrow I cook for my friends, faro with sausage and apples and a chicken chili recipe I've never tried before. Any prayers offered are greatly appreciated. Depression in teens is so very serious.

And now I will have a good cry instead of eating! Perhaps a nice soak in the tub as well. NYKAREN

My arms are still feeling willy nilly today! I only used 3 lb weights too. Hubs wanted to add some weight machines at the gym on the weekends now since we have the cardio down pat. So we did back and abdomen today. He wants to do upper body tomorrow and I hope I am ready. I use free weights at home and at the gym will use machines. We also used the stretching chair thingy and that was marvelous for our backs!

Happy with my progress. Had to use the waist ties on this pair of workout pants today! Perseverance! I got accepted into the Naturally Slim online program paid for by the hubs employer. Starts on Feb 13th. Looking forward to adding more knowledge to getting healthy for life! https://naturallyslim.com/home

Hubs grilling some chicken leg quarters and sweet potatoes for dinner. I will add some Green Giant Steamers Baby Brussels Sprouts.

    Hugs ladies!

“Beth, when you took that fall into the chocolate I guess there was no one there to help and you had to eat your way out of it? So sorry” … DJ …This is EXACTLY what happened!! They're gone now ….

Kim … your meal sounds perfect for a Super Bowl Party.

Joyce … I thought the shoes are really cute and never would have realized they were “Velcro” unless you told me.

Becky in snowy NY … action is definitely key. My husband and I made a trip to the grocery store with the specific intent of buying a variety of fruits and vegetables to liven up our protein/vegetable plates at dinner. And we did buy 80.00 worth of lovely produce. So with all of that in the fridge, what did we have for dinner? We went out to a local pizza/sub shop …

Hey you cooks out there … what do you do with baby bok choy? I have a one pound bag of it.

Margaret … my current knee problem is a warning too. Yes, food choices are inflaming my arthritis … doctor confirmed that sugar and crappy carbs will do that … but I also need to get the weight off of it and get back to weight training. Both of these things completely eliminated my knee pain in the past.

Heather … my older son who has a gift for languages struggled with but eventually mastered the Germanic languages … he said there was no comparison to the Romance Languages! Good luck with the German.

NYKaren … We made our expectations excruciatingly clear when son left for college. He’s attending a private school that is well out of our financial league and his attendance there is delaying husband’s retirement. He received scholarships that are dependent on his gpa. If he loses the scholarships, we are absolutely unable to make up that difference on top of our already very large loans. I don’t even know that we would qualify for more loan funds. Fool around, fail courses …His education in Nashville will be over… and that’s non-negotiable. Of course, there’s no girl in the picture yet …

Becca … If you go through the stomach issue again, see a doctor … reminds me of Sylvia/Mollywhippet and her intestine problems …

Well, it’s not looking too good for my husband’s back. It seems that the vertebrae above the area that had surgery in September are destabilizing … he’s had x-rays, we’re waiting to hear back from the surgeon. He’s in a lot of pain again. But tonight he’s taking our older son to a long awaited night at a Sabres hockey game. I offered to take our son instead but he wouldn’t hear of it. For the newbies, this may be an ordeal for my husband as our son is in a wheelchair and will need to be secured in a wheelchair van, maneuvered around clueless fans, etc.

I’m busy cleaning out the bedroom and bathroom. In just a minute I’m going to remove the rest of the wallpaper … It’s just a little “en-suite” bathroom and no one uses it but my husband and I, but it’s driving me crazy that it looks like it does.

    Have a great night!
    Beth near Buffalo

    DJ Get well soon!

Margaret Are you taking Vit D for your knees?

Cheri Yay for jello arms...they turn into sexy arms, don't ya know...

Nancy D The goat visiting yoga class has me chuckling. Thank you. And woooooot! for the white shorts fitting!

Barbie That is so sweet that Bess & Sasha are getting along. Heartwarming!

Kim Yum! Can you snag me an invitation to that Super Bowl Party? (Don't tell Mary b/c it's the first official day of Keto challenge so the mac & cheese would be a no-no.)

Becca Love the photo, you are lovely! Tummy pain sounds like the pits! Ugh!

Grace Glad you daughter is better. The fish fry sounds fun!

KJ https://www.facebook.com/groups/InstantPotCommunity/ If you go the search option at the top right of this Facebook page you can search for any recipes you might want to try in your borrowed Instant Pot. I make hard-boiled eggs once a week, and have made cabbage rolls, soups, soup stock, etc. People rave about the cheesecake and yogurt they make, but I haven't tried either yet. I love my Instant Pot, which I got for Christmas.

Heather Congrats on getting those pesky pounds off! You were so sick on vacation, I'm glad there was a silver lining!

Katla Hope your tummy is in tip top shape soon! So not fun. And that is GREAT about the raccoon damage being covered by insurance! So fortunate.

Pip I'm with you on the shorthand. and ditto missing the folks that haven't been here for awhile. Vicki Grand Island, the people you mentioned, and I miss Miriam with Cats too.

NYKAREN So sorry you had to have a tough love conversation with your stubborn girl. You sound like such a good mom, not buying into her stuff. It feels bad, but it's the right and loving thing to do. And my heart goes out to your friends with the daughter with severe depression. I have very close family members who suffer, or did suffer from depression. It's a fatal progressive illness if not treated. I can tell you the last thing your friends have time or energy to do is fix nutritious meals, so you thought of a perfect way to help them. <3

    Marcelyn LOL! Enjoy your concert.

Sarah Great food choices! There will always be more chips and french fries and hamburger buns. It's not like the world is going to run out of them, right?

DJ Woooooot! 3lb weight loss, you go, girl!

Sue What is chia gel? And Mary is busy on the Keto Challenge thread she started. The challenge starts tomorrow. Wish she was starting on Feb 6 instead, as tomorrow night is Superbowl and it's hard to do keto on Super Bowl Sunday. Oh well, it will be good for me...I guess...LOL!

Yinka & Gingersnap & DD from IL & Pam & Becky Welcome! and if I missed some new folks, sorry! We are so happy to have you all here!

I worked today. It was a good day. Then I came home and brined some chicken wings to prepare for Super Bowl tomorrow. Also fixing some high fat low carb dip for veggies and a couple of other low carb items. Starting the Keto Challenge with Mary tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

What a "roller coaster" week. Monday found 3 jobs that sounded right up my alley. 2 of them responded right away on by Tues. morning I had heard from all 3 recruiters that they wanted to submit my resume. Wednesday one job got feedback that even though the job description said QA engineer to write test scripts what they really wanted was a developer to create test tools. Not me so 1 job off the list. Thursday evening I was supposed to have my first phone interview with job 2. Got an email instead telling me the interview was postponed. Friday morning the company decided to cancel the project so job #2 is off the list. Meanwhile job #3 still hasn't responded to let me know if they did submit me or not. Job hunting gets so discouraging.

DJ - THREE pounds!!!! Congrats! :flowerforyou:
I have posted most of the ones I took on my phone, or got someone else to take. A lot of them were for the grandchildren. DH has the official camera. He took 160 photos. :noway: I will have a look when I've downloaded them, but they are usually very "travelogue".

I am awake with jet lag. Going to have another try at sleeping in a minute.

I've been procrastinating on doing the insurance forms. :#>:) Tomorrow I will do them right after exercising. Promise.

NY Karen , Beth - I understand your frustration. In my day in Britain we went to university and it was nearly all paid for by the state. My parents had no idea what I was up to and I never discussed it with them. I was able to live independently in student flats and find my own way with a few holiday jobs for spending money. The huge financial stress and commitment takes away so much of the freedom and pleasure these days. Students have to take out huge loans and pay them back over many years. Mine was a lucky generation. The tide of history flowed our way in so many ways, not the least in upward social mobilty.. (I am 67) I did get married at 20, which wasn't the best choice, but that marriage lasted 28 years and gave me my children. I feel that parents should not have to be responsible for their children after the age of 18. Even my own children had big grants for university. We didn't have to pay out huge sums. Nowdays in England (not in Scotland where tuition is free) a student can easily run up a personal debt of £18,000 for tuition and maybe £30,000 plus on top of that for living expenses. It's a lot to start your life with. No wonder starting a family can get delayed and delayed.
I often feel I was born at the right point in history. :D

Oh well, will try again for sleep. :*

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxx
