(((Kim))) I have a difficult older brother too. My DM wanted me to mend fences too. My way of mending fences was to wish him well as I thought of him, but like you minimized the time I spent with him for my own safety and well being. You cannot change your mother and her denial. It sounds like they are in a co-dependent relationship like my mom was with my brother. He was not violent with her, but he did go into rages and hoarded her home.I feel for your whole family and send you love. It is so hard when you fear for the safety of your mother.
Thinking about it he could be charged with elderly abuse. You would need to get a social worker involved. I know it is not the best solution. When a person like your brother is dangerous to others outside forces sometimes do need to get involved just like child abuse is reported.

First, Happy Valentine's Day! Or to those of you who are too silly..... Happy VD!!
Is there a way we can read a collection of one person's posts? For example, would love to check out contributions per person instead of scrolling through pages and pages. Lenora and Re, you need to write novels. Very interesting and often funny, always thought provoking. Pip, I could look at your dog and cat photos all day. Those of you going thru problems or who have joys/exercise/eating tips/recipes on a regular basis, same goes.
However, while scrolling through the pages I always happen on something I missed the first time around so it's all good!
Visit to the orthopedist yesterday: X-rays were good...plenty of padding left between the knee joints, only arthritis showing up was in the knee that doesn't hurt. So they sent me right down the hall for an MRI to see if it's something in the Meniscus. I hope it's something that resolves itself if they find anything. He said OK to keep doing low-impact stuff like walking on flat surfaces, elliptical, et. I see him again a week from tomorrow.
I see I need to find the Grammy's some day when I have time. We don't get the major TV channels anymore since we dropped satellite but it's probably on Hulu on the Roku TV. I like just about all music - don't get a chance to listen to much except what's on the radio when I'm in the car and what friends recommend. LOVE Justin Timberlake - he doesn't even have to sing to get my attention (wink) and the rendition of "Sound of Silence" by Disturbed was fantastic. I like screamy songs just fine, LOL.

I was lazy yesterday as far as official exercising. I did manage to clean out one of 2 closets and most of my bureau. Got about 10 bags of clothes to donate. More to do today.
Today's plan:
Call son to check on him
Call daughter in TN to talk about sending mail to her house
Work on downsizing/declutter of master bedroom and bath with final goal of moving to motor home
Drop off clothes already culled to Wellspring (Big Brother Big Sister charity)
Sell egg gourds hopefully to craft store ( anyone want them?) garbage bag full!
Squats and yoga I hope.

Did a hour of a bosu DVD. We have a Newcomer Board Meeting tomorrow so the plan is to do a Jeanette Jenkins Cardio DVD at home.
For the lady who was saying how she looked on the internet about trigger finger (I'm sorry, I don't remember who it was), did you find any other self-help remedies other than immobilizing the finger for a while

Sharon - I'm not really sure why Vince doesn't seem to want to go to FL. Maybe it's part not wanting change and part about his eyes.. But leaving earlier in the day (he likes to leave around 9, if it were up to me we'd leave around 7) would solve that. Maybe as he gets older he isn't for change like vacations. He always before never minded going down there. This is the first year. He has mentioned about the things that he needs to do to get ready. Well...do as much as you can in advance. I have most of the baking that we're going to take with us already done and in the freezer, the clothes I'm taking I have in a tub (just need to put them in a suitcase), I just don't know what this thing is this time. He's the one who really wants to go to Daytona. I just like getting away. You SHOULD be proud
katla - the first time I went target shooting, I consider myself a success...I didn't hit the ceiling and I didn't hit the floor. Last time we went I was ribbing Vince that "I hit the bullseye, you didn't" He then proceeded to shoot about 3 times in quick succession, each time hitting the bullseye. THEN he explained to me that he wasn't trying to his the bullseye, he was aiming for another part of the body.
pip - you mean those knees were worse???? ouch!!!
Rori - I'm just trying to avoid an operation for the trigger finger if I can. They did mention it to me that last time I had it, but the cortisone seems to have worked on the left hand. So I'm hoping that just keeping the finger immobilized as much as possible will do the trick for the right hand. If I still have it when we get back from FL, I'll go to the MD. Good luck with the colonoscopy. When I have to do it, that's about the only time I ever have gatorade.
Leigh in France - how nice that your hubby gave you a rosebush! If Vince wants to get me anything, he knows that I'm not crazy about chocolate so he can give me roses from Incredible Edibles. The "roses" are strawberries dipped in chocolate with a mini-marshmallow in the center. The "leaves" on the stems are lettuce.

Just been out for a Valentine's walk with DH round the lanes. I wanted to use up a few more calories before tonight's special dinner with champagne. We saw a daffodil, a bank of snowdrops, crocus and a bunch of primroses. Managed a calorie count of 260, so altogether I've banked 862 calories for my meal. Wasn't good yesterday, (no exercise), so wanted to make up for it. I'm creeping up to Pip's figures. :bigsmile:
I'm marinading my tandoori monkfish kebabs and will make the raita in a minute.
The insurance company want more proof of my medical expenses. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! :sad: Don't you just hate those ÷×+@#%÷ companies. Perhaps I should swear in German. :laugh:

I am currently reading a book that I thought I would share, "Natural Posture for Pain-free Living: The Practice of Mindful Alignment", by Kathleen Porter. Her premise is that our sedentary lives have led to poor posture, with misaligned bones that are ill able to carry our frames, causing muscles to help with the load, whereas normally the latter are intended to assist with movement. As she herself explains in the preface, the book is part anthropology, part physical therapy. She provides a number of exercises we can do to help regain better posture, thereby helping to alleviate some of our chronic pains. Having spent many years hunched over a computer, I have been concerned about my posture, so started looking through some of the available literature; this is one of the most interesting I have found. I am going to give it a try.6

Joyce, I’ve never lived close to any relatives either. I have to say that I do envy those with large families that get to see each other often. I know there are down sides to it but there is nothing like family.

Betty, I use the recumbent bike. It doesn’t burn as many calories but is the easiest on my back plus get to watch TV to pass the time. Good luck with your situation.

I made chicken and veggie stir fry last night using my Oriental Five Spice. It was good but sure has a distinctive taste. I think I may have to try it on a pork roast sometime. DH knows I don’t want candy for VD and he has always felt that flowers are very expensive for something that dies in a few days (although he has given me roses a number of times) so he asked if I’d be just as happy if he spent the money on filets for dinner and did them on the grill. Oh yes! They have gotten so expensive that we just don’t buy them anymore but that is my favorite. Can’t wait until tonight. He sent me roses on VD the first year we were dating and while we were out that night, the subject came up from the lady who’s house we were at. She was fussing at her hubby for no flowers and said, “I’ll bet Jimmy sent Janet flowers!”.. We were both quiet and DH finally said, “Well did you get the roses I sent?” I sheepishly said “no” and the other couple died laughing. When I got home they had been delivered late by the florist. If I didn’t know they were from him I wouldn’t have been sure because I couldn’t read his name on the card. lol

Jake is fixing tacos using fake meat crumbles for lunch. That will be our holiday meal. When we were in line at the market yesterday we were behind a man who bought flowers, a huge box of chocolates, a plush toy, a fancy card and bottle of cinnamon whiskey. It cost $75. I thanked Jake for not spending money on bunch of unnecessary "stuff".
Kim, I don't know your whole family story, but I suggest that be kind, stay, detached, and stay as far away as possible.

Pip: My knees looked like that frequently as a child when I was learning to rollerskate. More recently falls on unseen ice have caused me cracked bones in my wrists but left my knees intact. That looks like a caught toe going up stairs that have a metal edge. We saw similar injuries in middle school while I was teaching. Heal quickly. :flowerforyou:
Tummy trouble today. I got the dog to the groomer but still feel like I need to stay close to "the loo."

Barbie - My exercise bike is a recumbent, too. I like it because I can read a book while riding so I don't get bored and quit!

Kim - What an awful situation for your mother and nephew! It's not going to be easy for anyone, but is there any chance the gun(s) could be removed from the house while your brother is out? Seems like that would be a basic precaution that would make everyone safer. Lifting you and your family in my thoughts.
Marcelyn - I never thought about how much shoulder is involved in using a pottery wheel! I loved "playing with mud" and am glad to hear that you're able to work with the wheel again. Stay safe... I'm keeping an eye on the Houston weather and my family down there.
Re - Yippee for fitting into 15-year-old "skinny" clothes. Must have been like Christmas morning to find that box!
Joyce - Guess we'll have to see if I lose the hay or the elephant penis. Fifty pounds was my original goal, but it's possible once I get there I'll decide another ten is reasonable. Hard to say - I've always weighed more than I look like I do.
Leigh - What a lovely Valentine's Day gift from your husband! Something you can look at and take pleasure from long after the cut roses and chocolates would have been gone.
Lisa - "They're talking to whatever her drug of choice is at that moment." Very wise words.
Kate - Love the black and white leggings! I have a pair of black ones with cream-colored roses, and they are almost neutral. They go with absolutely everything and I wear them at least once a week.
Pip - After my motorcycle accident, my left knee looked similar. The whole thing was hamburger at the time, but now it's settled down to a couple of big scars. On top of the previous scar on the same knee from a fall on the rocks of the fjord in Norway, I just figure it makes us look tough...
Here are two pairs of the new leggings. The third pair are just a solid charcoal color.

Accountability Post Progress update of my Feb goals.
Monday's Results
✔1. Log/COMPLETE the entry daily.
2. No eating after 9pm.
✔3. Fiber 30g daily
4. Walk 30 active Fitbit min daily.
✔5. Declutter clothes, books, office supplies.
6. In bed by midnight.
Yesterday was a little messy.
• I put my Fitbit on the charger - then forgot to put it on - and got too distracted to think about walking. The Fitbit reminds me to walk. It buzzes me every hour to encourage me to walk. Love my Fitbit.
• DH brought home fried chicken... and I ate too much of it.
• I was up after midnight with DM90. She couldn't sleep and a lens in her eyeglasses popped out - so I spent an hour trying to pop it back in. Finally thought to dig out an old pair of mine for her.
• And since - we were up... we snacked. Ugh! But it was one night...I'll recover.
But... I'll focus on the good.
• I logged my food anyway.
• I got my fiber.
• I did an update of my clothing inventory tally.
Back on track... Well hubby cooked breakfast and there were these big ol' biscuits. I had one. But... back to business. And... there's the box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates for Valentine's Day. Sigh... I'm happy my DH kept up his 32 year tradition. ❤️ I'm determined to not let this derail me. Back to my Feb goals!

Michele in NC - first of all - holy cow - that's a long plank! ouch! good job! second, I am the one who read about trigger finger (thumb in my case) online. Almost everything says cortisone injection or surgery if that doesn't help. The conservative treatment appears to be resting it - hard to do when I type, use the mouse, pull and carry heavy files etc. and making strength training challenging too! It did say splinting can help immobilize it as you mentioned. I might try that at night - that's when mine is the worst. I did find this youtube vid - and cannot vouch for it - meant to google physical therapy exercises for it, but have not yet. I'll share if I find any. I have also not tried the stretch in the video but may. I wanted to look it up to see if others advise that! lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9BgEAmn250 Good luck! I hope yours improves. I am resisting going to doc because I had a hip replacement last year and still have medical bills from that - not wanting to start that up again since I have a $6450 deductible! I still have not had time to catch up - but here are some thoughts from what I read last night before bed!
KJ (Kelly) - OMG I thought I was the only one who loves dark choco with chili!!! I buy one at World Market that is soooooo good - and agreed - one square is what I allot myself.
Janet - your flowers are gorgeous! lucky lady! (prob lucky man the reason you got them! ha!)
gotu52 - congrats on your weight loss! and your snow pics are awesome! I love the one with all the trees with snow piled on. looks like around here - although we are having a warming trend and a LOT has melted!
Re in TX - Thanks for asking about the b'day partying last weekend - went better than expected! my son partied himself out Friday night, skiing all day Saturday and we met up with the group that eve for dinner and drinks at a fav brewery, but he gave up doing the cookout up in the mountains! haha it's a tradition for him, but he felt like having a lazy day instead - so I got my workout done and reasonable eating! lol Glad to hear other hubbies are blind to body faults - makes like much more enjoyable! and we do not have snow shoes. A lot of people do, but we stick to actual trails that enough people frequent and we can wear our hiking boots with our microspikes for traction on icy sections. We have amazing microspikes so you don't even have to slow your pace on hard ice!1 -

Trigger finger (thumb). Mine has bothered me for 4-5 years, getting steadily worse. Recently it was to the point I could not pick up anything with any weight and hold onto it, not even my coffee cup or water, etc. When I went to my doc in January I asked her about it. She gave me a script for Diclofenac Sodium Topical Gel, 1%. Your supposed to apply it 4 times a day, but I probably on average used it twice daily. In less than a week I was able to bend my thumb and pick up and hold on to items. The soreness almost totally stopped. Just now its beginning to get a little sore again, but not trigger and/or catching to the point I can't move it. If I can get away with using it for 3-4 days every six weeks, I'm happy with that.

Janetr OKC - wow that is awesome to hear! that gives me hope. Believe it or not, I don't have a general doc. I need to establish one. I use urgent care and a clinic for my annual women's physical. I need to establish one. It's part of my hesitance now. I read that it happens more with people with arthritis or diabetes. I am definitely having some arthritis stuff going on! bummer! Thank you for that info!1

Hello, well DH outdid himself. At my place at the table b4 work there was a card and 3 low calorie chocolates. Then I had meetings all morning so when I got to work and opened my office door, there was a beautiful bouquet of mixed flowers. We are going to dinner tonight so I am hitting the treadmill soon. I picked up a box of fresh assorted cookies from our local bakery for him. He doesn't like chocolate and I do so I won't be touching any of his boring cookies lol!
A colleague came by with a small package of some type of gourmet dark chocolate that made her think of me. That was so nice. So I would say today was a success!

Hubby left me the usual card to "discover" in the kitchen. He picks such meaningful cards. I really don't want more.
Kim and Janetr - you are both coping with such difficulties. I am so sorry.
Tammy - thanks for the trigger finger video. I have arthritis in both index fingers and the right middle finger. I have a lot of issues with the joints locking up. So painful. A friend who is a physical therapist taught me to massage the inside of my forearm. There are trigger points along that path that help release the finger joints. I have to rub fairly vigorously sometimes but it does help. I think these stretches will help some, too.
Well, ladies, I slept until 2:00 today. Do you think I needed some rest????????
I wasn't able to open the pictures of Bea, new leggings, etc. I'm sure they were lovely.
