Good Morning, Ladies
You'll be happy to know that my responses I typed last night, except those that I posted, will just be saved to my WPP and not 'cut & pasted' here. It helped me 'journalize' my feelings and feeling like I had a 'chat' with each and every one of you individual - whether for a few minutes - or longer.
Glad to see this AM, that I was still on page #39; where I left off. I know the next time, early afternoon, I will find 50 more.
Karen and Karen - Hope both the babies in ICU are getting stronger each day! I know, whether you are the 'mother' of 'mother-in-law' in the family, your presence has been welcomed; and brings a lot of comfort to the family. Being there ... just let them know if they 'need' to talk, have a 'break', ... or get {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, they are also coming from all your friends here at WOMEN 50+, too.
Last night, actually late afternoon, after Sunday church lunch crowd, and before the 'night' bunch comes in, we had our bi-monthly 'date night'. The young black woman who was our waitress was a 'hoot' and my husband started kidding with her after she brought our drinks (non-alcoholic). I think it started off that we had been 'married for 44 years' ... and she 'asked how we had done it'. WOW! A fount of his thoughts came rolling over. I think it was a 'good thing' that she only had one other table to attend to (and they were sitting right across from us). I think we talked about everything under the sun. She'd been in the Army for 3 years; and going to school on the GI bill, was concentrating on her studies, working, not in a relationship; but, was ... concentrating on 'me' ...! I think she was a bit surprised that every time she brought something to us ... she heard a "Thank You" from us.
Now, I think it is funny (sweet) that "Today's" subject matter to this section of the show ... is HS sweethearts that are still married for more than 25+ years ... and, their stories how they kept the marriage going. This was one of our other topics we hit on. Reading everything she could, newspapers, magazines - especially something like National Geographic to learn about people and the places they live in. Watching the news - all channels to get both sides of politics, what we did for a living, school, her service to this country ... what my husband's stint in the Navy entailed. [He flew in a submarine locator during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the early 60's]. Talking about history and a touch on politics (this was just to hear her opinion as a 'young' person). When I told her where I had gone to school, she really got excited ... wanted to know if I had any pictures of my work. I have a portfolio; but, don't carry it around with me. She wanted to see it and asked if I would come show it to her; ... I asked what her 'work schedule' was and I am going to 'follow through on it'. I'm sure she probably thinks she'll never see me again. I might go and buy a salad and sit in her section.
The waitress in the next section of booths had been one of the first friends at Taylor's 'new' school after Trey got custody of her. She was a 'new' student, too. They were friends until she dropped out of school; but, later got her GED and went to 'technical school' and plans to go back to study under a 'new' area. I laughed when I told Louis that I though it was her - but, that her hair was a lot darker than the blond she was 'in school'.
This is the first AM that Tux has not been sitting on the mat to our back door. I hope that means he is feeling much better. Maybe he is 'catting around' and will come back so I can take him to the vet to try to find out this 'unusual' behavior. It is not like him to stay in one spot; and, he has lost his voice again. Nose running a little, so I think his 'allergies must be kicking in with a vengeance'. Needs his shots, too. This last year, I think we forgot them. We had spent so much on Cracker - re: her left paw that got injured for the first of 4x when DYS hit her with his truck. I think she 'ran into his tire'; and, not that he ran over her. I don't think she would be alive if he had; but, he came home and told me that he 'had run over her'; then, Louis was behind him, holding her. That really upset me ... my thought was: "Why are you bringing in my dead puppy?"
Did not particularly like the "Grammy's" last night. I guess it was because of all the different genres, most of which I don't watch or listen to. Wanted to turn; but, Louis was having way too much fun asking, WTF?, to do that. Maybe the best was the ending with 'whoever it was' talked about music being the universal language and that it is the one things that transcends across all differences regardless of race, religion, white collar or blue, ... and so much more - whatever genre had been represented. And "America" being played on a trumpet.
Welcome to all the "Newbies" .... "Make new friends; but, keep the old. One is silver and the other is gold." [Song learned in Girl Scouts]
I thought this was happening; but, today I think I 'realized' I was maybe somewhat correct. Since we are such a large site; while when you open up and it takes you to YOUR last post ... you still might miss something because so many are posting at the same time. I would suggest maybe 'scrolling up' a bit to find out ... if it has or has not done the same to you ... that you have not had MFP received a 'new' post you did not read.
Hello my 'young' and 'active' friends here who are helping in making my journey so much easier ...
"See ya later, alligators ... 'after a while, crocodile!" HA! HA! - That's you, PIP, the 'crocodile' ... hang tough at work; things work out - maybe not in 'our timing'; ... Claim it! "You want this job!" GO FOR IT! You'd make a 'great' leader, and, I am quite sure things would run so much better ... you are driven (most times that is a 'good' trait). Use it for that reason. Thought it was funny that your 'nemeses' [in this case: One that inflicts retribution or vengeance] will be (or has been) 'squashed'!

Happy Monday all!
I went on a nice hike over the weekend, I have been relatively sedentary over the past year, so I am in a little pain right now. I am going to start walking the stairs to our 5 story office building this week.
I weighed myself, first time since November, I have lost 10 pounds, so I am very pleased! I think 5 more and then tone up, I will be looking good for our cruise in July!
I am a little concerned because I am having increasing pain in my shoulders and hips over the past year, I really think it is because I haven't been moving. I am hoping that when I start walking the stairs and doing some lifting, maybe the pain will subside. Having a desk job really does have bad effects on health and wellness, esp at our age. HATE IT! Need to start moving, I think I will get one of those trackers this week - GOAL.

i am of today's music that's for sure. if you would have listened to their speech as to why they went up there in their boxers then you would have understood, i thought that was awesome.. i can stomach some country music but not most of it that's for sure. my playlists do have alot of stuff this group probably wouldn't know about.2 -
Today is my youngest daughter's 41st birthday. My girls are now 41 and 42.
Some of you may recall last May that my (now 23 yr old) grandson called me and asked me to come pick him up in a town about an hours drive from us and take him to the bus depot. He ended up staying the night with us. He was headed to SanAntonio to enter drug rehab. He now has left the facility, about three weeks ago as close as we can guess. We have no idea where he is, apparently living on the streest in SanAntonio and we have to assume using again. He has been in and out of rehab since he was 16. We are scared, sad and disheartened. Please remember him in prayer and thoughts for a positive outcome.

Well I was busy the past week and logged in but did not read--how can I ever look at over 1000 posts??? I am doomed.
I am wondering if anybody else has had problems with a stationary bike and the end of their spine. I tried sitting every which way and after several days it is still sore. Are the spinner types better? I was looking for a change of pace from the elliptical and the bike has the con that there is no way for me to sit on it without the back rest digging into my tailbone in addition to not burning as many calories as the elliptical. The pro is I get to watch nice videos of cycling through France.
Welcome to all the many many new people!!! Hugs to all who need them!
Not much happening here -- lots of very gloomy weather. Have been trying to do well on eating but exercise is not happening much. Saw the Oscar nominated live action movies yesterday and they were all amazingly good, and varied. Tomorrow I am making and eating dessert for Valentine's Day come hell or high water but then that will be it till next month.

Janetr - My heart goes out to you and your family. Dealing with addiction is heartbreaking. One of my best friends has a son who is now in rehab, the third time this year. So far, it seems he is sticking with this program, but he had to hit rock bottom before he could reach this point. I have watched the toll it took on my friend and her husband, so I will send you all my deepest wishes that he finds the strength to get the help he needs.3

- Leigh in France thank you so much. Yes he has stayed some places a few weeks others as long as 14 months. "Graduated" from two programs andwe have celebrated with him, but here we are........again.

Janetr - I hope that your grandson is safe. Prayers for you and your family that he will contact one you to get the help he needs. (((Hugs)))

Hi all. Sad to hear of your nephew, Janetr.
Happy to hear that Olivia is holding her own.
I'm on the train back from London. My friend had a good chemo session and we chatted the whole time. Will do it again in a month or so. She obviously is feeling a bit low, but cheered up while I was there and is looking forward to her holiday in Morocco.
Write later. I did an hours work on my memoir on the way up.

I am praying for your Grandson. I know how heart wrenching this is for you. My son (21) has had so many issues in the past, and I can only hope that he is not going back to using. It is terrible what these kids are up against, it is so widely accepted by that age group, and it is so very destructive.1 -
(((JANET))) Prayers for you, our grandson, and his family.1

wow thank you to all of you who enjoyed my snow hike pics! Again, it helps me get through winter here! ha!
Lanette in SW WA - thanks for the encouragement with Biggest Loser challenge - super excited to participate! Also, yes we are used to driving in it and most of us drive Subarus with snow tires which plow right through it! My son and daughter-in-law live in Bremerton, WA and had quite a bit of snow recently for there - everything shut down. They grew up here, so got a chuckle out of it.
Joyce in Indiana - thank you. and believe it or not, my hubby goes out and starts my car before I leave for work (he works from home) and makes sure it's brushed off and window clear of ice! so a little chivalry still exists! I do appreciate it!
Sharon in Lethbridge - What is the car in your profile pic? Also, great goals!
Karen in LA with Oliva - so GREAT to hear good news. Enjoy your stay, and continued prayers and hugs.
Leigh in France - soup sounds and looks amazing. I pinned it to my pinterest board! I LOVE cilantro!
Lisa in TX - huge congrats on kicking the cigarettes! that's awesome!
Fran in GA - good job going for a hike! that's my absolute favorite thing to do! We hike hundreds of miles/year. it's our escape from work and life and nourishes our souls! seems sappy, but truly we crave it! Also congrats on losing weight!
Trigger finger - well shoot - I forgot who said they had trigger finger - you totally just diagnosed my problem! wow! as soon as I read that I thought "that must be what I have" so googled it and sure enough! I think arthritis has suddenly attacked my hands, and now the thumbs - left one the worst - is doing that locking up - where it will spring back up! it's a crazy feeling and very painful at night. I'm sure my husband will blame it on my texting! Thank you! I will go back up to see who mentioned it, but didn't want to lose this post right now.
Janet OKC - congrats on the LulaRoe leggings! they're awesome! I must be the only one left on the planet without a pair. I hear they are super soft. I might need to break down and buy some! On a sadder note, I am so sorry to hear about your grandson. I can't imagine the worry when you don't know where he is or how he's doing. Prayers for recovery for him!
Kate in UK thanks about the pics - and there are plenty of people here who don't want it either! haha I just like to make the best of it and enjoy it when I can. and I really don't mind it in winter. It's when it hits in May and June that you'll hear me whine about it!
grits - I have worked in law offices for 35 years and currently still do. I have enjoyed it for the most part, but kind of over it, and trying to figure out how to transition out of it at my age! lol I currently work as a paralegal for the "water law department" in our law firm. We have three attorneys who do nothing but water law. Water law is a big deal in Montana. but I'm bored!

Mary thank you so much. I pray for hom every time he crosses my mind. It's in God's hands. I appreciate the prayers.

joyoakey: Welcome to a great group! The shift to retirement changes a lot of things. I'm not a runner, but I am turning myself into a more athletic person than ever before. I wonder if your new retirement and increased time exercising may have resulted in fatigue or perhaps even over-training. I try to follow a harder/easier pattern in my exercise & it is working out pretty well. In my case, MWF, yoga, and TTH walking with a friend plus Saturday or Sunday riding lesson has been a good pattern. I'm planning to bump that up by adding another riding session, starting this week. There will be an impact. Hopefully that will eventually include a higher skill level at riding and a bit more stamina. It is sure to result in a need to make adjustments. :flowerforyou:
Pip: Transitions at work are always a little bumpy in my experience. I hope you get the changes you're requesting. It is clear they value your insights.
Cheri: I love the group hugs. Thanks!
Becca: I love the goals you have posted on the kitchen wall. Your salmon looks wonderful! We slather our salmon with a mustard sauce that is wonderful, and then grill or bake it. We occasionally to get the piece right behind the gills where there is a fin, and it tastes just as good as everything else. Of course nobody actually eats the fin, and we don't eat the skin, either. I got the original recipe from Sunset Magazine decades ago. The original recipe includes butter, which I can't seem to digest, so I switched that part to margarine. A batch of sauce in the refrigerator will be used on many different pieces of salmon & lasts a good long while. Let me know whether you are interested. :flowerforyou:
Tammy: Gorgeous photos!
Lisa: Congrats on the one month anniversary of quitting smoking. I hope Corey's approvals for surgery come through ASAP. He's suffered too long already. (((HUGS)))
Yikes! I'm out of time and need to go to yoga. Have a great day!

Janetr okc So sorry for you and your family to be going through this and am sending prayerful thoughts!
Cheri1 -
Betty- I use a recumbent bike, but if I ride more than twenty minutes at a time my hips hurt. So I have to break it up by walking on the treadmill and going back to it. I am a fluffy girl so the spinner bikes are hard on me right now.
My granddaughter (5 years old) Kamari, had her tonsils out and repaired one of the tubes in her ears on Friday. Poor baby, she was really freaked out by the whole drama. She seems to be better today and is home from the hospital.
I have been on the road all weekend and have accomplished nothing in the way of housework. And I tried but I don’t think my eating was the best all weekend either. Back on track today and workout tonight.
Prayers for all. I hold you ladies dear to my heart.
And just for the record....Where's the minions? I need my little dose of fun..

Skimmed everything - over 300 posts - prayers and hugs sent. No other time to comment.4

Good afternoon ladies! Happy Monday! Mornings have been rough. Just not sleeping well and not being able to just jump out of bed in the morning like normal. So, I have been kind of quiet on here as I just read to keep up!
Tammy- Absolutely stunning Montana scenery! Thank you for sharing!
Karen VA-Hope all is going well with you, your partner, daughter and grand-daughter Olivia! Thinking of you!
Janet-Sorry to hear of your grandson! So hard to watch them struggle.
Rita-Thinking of you also and of your concern for your son. That is a difficult situation to put himself into. He is clean, his friends are not. Love and hugs to you!
Nancy in LA- I love me some peacocks! It's funny, when we lived in a bigger city we used to hear them often due to a neighbor having one or two and the zoo being down the road. Now we live in the country, lots of room for them, and none around. I love their calls! Sounds just like they are saying "Hellllllp! Helllllllp!" I would love to see an entire "party" of males, preening and strutting and trying to get the attention of the females!
Leigh- Mmmmmm...cilantro soup sounds divine! Alas, I would be making it for myself, as my hubby is not a big soup eater and is not a fan of cilantro. The last part of that sentence kills me, after living in Mexico for a year, I can't imagine life without cilantro.
My weight has been holding fast, which is good, I think. Lately, my eating has been a bit hit or miss. Tonight I am making French Onion Soup (mainly for myself and my son; Tim can forage for himself tonight). My plan is to limit the bread and cheese topping for myself, so that I can have a glass of wine after dinner. AFter all, I do have to open the wine to use it in the soup; can't just let it sit there! I also bought myself a bar of nice dark chocolate with chilis. I do amazingly well limiting the chocolate, so I don't see that as a problem. One square a day, keeps the blues away.
My daughter, Lauren, called the other day and nearly sent me into a tailspin! Nothing like answering the phone to your kid's voice wailing "Oh mama!" and then sobbing like the world is ending! Gah! My brain immediately went to: what happened? The baby? Her husband? Her? Then I hear "Our tax return is so small! We were planning on at least the same return as last year!" LOL! Oh my dear girl! If she were in front of me I would have been tempted to throttle her! You just don't do that to your mama. Especially when I have been crying over the loss of a sister, I immediately thought the worst. Anyway, we got her calmed down and talked her into taking her tax documents to another preparer and having them look them over and see if a tax amendment is called for. In the meantime, they will have to cut back, tighten their belts, and stick to a budget. Not the first young couple to experience financial shock, certainly not the last!
Well, that's all I have today. Sending you all love a day before Valentine's Day, just in case I miss you tomorrow! Love and hugs and the best of everything to you all! Such a wonderful garden of blooms we have cultivated on this site! I will walk among you, enjoy the sight of you and the beauty you give the world! Love you my friends! xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)5 -
