Aren't families fun ? NOT. Too much drama in mine!!
I HATE Valentine's Day as I feel more alone than ever. Sure my kids and siblings love me cause I do a lot for everyone but do they love me just for me?? Dunno.
It is almost spring!! Snow is nearly gone and is quite warm outside. Can't wait to get working in the yard
Hanging in by a thread. Not weighing until I get the hang of eating properly.
Utterly exhausted from my last two 12 hr day shift and going into nights tonight. Hope I survive!!
Keep on tracking.

Just been watching a programme about how dieters put back the weight. 95% put it back on. 45% put on more.
The ones who kept it off permanently did a lot of exercise every day - more than an hour - and made keeping off the weight the most important thing in their lives.
I think that is true of the people on this thread who have been successful in keeping the lost weight off. We also eat healthily and well, with little processed food and most of us track our consumption carefully. I think tracking and exercise are the key. I personally could not have kept the weight off if I didn't exercise a lot every day as I love my food.
It is a bit depressing to hear how hard it is to keep at target for most people, but the formula is simple - this is for the rest of your life, no time off. Learn to love the food you can eat and learn to love exercise. (I used to hate exercise)
Avoid processed and takeaway food. Cook for yourself. Count calories. EXERCISE.
Good luck everyone!

Happy Valentines day everyone. I had 3 glasses of tea last night. I don't know if that was the cause of my insomnia or not but I didn't get to sleep until 7:30 this morning. I thought about just getting up but then I went to sleep. So woke up at 2:30. I feel very draggy. Need to do a load of laundry but not really want to do it. Need to go to funeral home to visit man I mentioned a couple of days before but just to tired. glad I don't have PT but I know I should always be doing my own here. Lord help me.
Glad to see so many of you doing well. Thoughts to the ones who need help, whatever way it may be.

In listening to the Week One lessons of the Naturally Slim program it is based on research of how "naturally slim" individuals eat. It is not WHAT you eat but WHEN and HOW you eat that will help you LOSE WEIGHT. Lots of information in the 1+ hour long video. Cannot share verbatim as there are copyright laws etc.. However, a lot is just common sense. A major departure for me is you don't have to eat breakfast upon arising each day. Learn to recognize "real" hunger and eat then. Which may be only 2 meals a day! I often eat at rote times of the day or when I "know" if I don't eat now I will be hungry later. Don't be afraid to be hungry. Drink H2O as often hunger is just thirst. Chew every bite slowly and savor the food. They say eat for 10 min. rest for 5 min. continue for 10 or more min. Often times the hubs and I are done eating in the first 10 minutes! lol I will be able to add several of the recommendations and make adjustments to my already changed way of eating.

When I went with Denise dress shopping, she mentioned to Pete's mother that the apartment over hers was available for Pete's brother. well, Denise just called saying that she never thought his mother would co-sign for the apartment. I told her "of course she would, look, she co-signed for you twice". Denise said that his mother wants her to go up to Pete's brothers and collect the rent. I told Denise that what'll happen is that the brother won't pay the rent and the mother will wind up paying for his rent. Denise told me that her husband said that if the brother moves into the house the father was moving out (he's a step-father). We just said to Denise "well, that's why she co-signed for the apartment". At least it's not my problem..... and the mother wonders why her son is so screwed up. Well, if you're always bailing the child out, they never grow up.
Vince just said that we'll leave for FL Saturday. Now this I have to admit I didn't think of but he's right. That's President's weekend and on Friday lots of people will be leaving work early to get a jump start on the weekend. By Saturday they'll probably be where they plan to be. So I actually got packed and started to get the food ready, made a list of things that are in the refrigerator and pantry (or at least started to)
Heather - our insurance company (when Vince was in the hospital in Switzerland) wanted information that the hospital over there doesn't put down on the forms they do. That was so much fun, getting all the information needed. Good luck to you
pip - those knees made my stomach turn. Not the legs, just the knees. Are they painful? Then again, even if they were, you probably wouldn't feel it.
Janetr - thanks for telling me about the diclofenac sodium topical gel. I'll definitely ask the MD about it if I need to go to him. I would much rather put that on even 4 times/day rather than have the cortisone or an operation. I'm just not comfortable with that
tammy - welcome to the arthritis club. I know how hard it is when you can't type. I'm thinking that's not helping one bit, but it is helping my frame of mind. I just tried the bending the finger backwards that was in the video. I'm thinking that it is helping some.
sarah - what a thoughtful hubby you have there.
Sent Vince an ecard today with a cat on it.
Joyce - caffeine is one of the things that keeps me awake. If I have chocolate at night, I can be guaranteed that I'll be awake
Michele in NC soon to be in FL

toni in TN - you're welcome - hope it's helpful. I will re-watch it at home and try it, and I think I'll order a splint/brace on amazon tonight. I hope the video is ok and won't aggravate anything!
Karen in BC - I'm sorry you're down and having a rough go of it. I hope you get early spring - working the yard definitely improves mood!
Heather in UK - interesting! and I think you're right on! and boy do I love food too!
Cheri - I might have to check that out!
Michele - but I don't want to be in the arthritis club! lol well, I already had a hip replaced last May (partly from damage from way my hips are built, and partly arthritis), and the other one will have to be done at some point, but so far holding out. Hip replacement was amazing though. I did my first small hike 2 weeks after surgery! and hiked all summer long! it's amazing what they do! I've had trouble with fingers, toes and elbows over the years - kind of off and on annoying but not life-changing. This though - wow - seemed to come on overnight and in full force! all the fingers are super stiff while I sleep, but the thumb joints and the base of thumbs is ridiculous! almost unusable. During the day they loosen up but at night I can't use them to pull the covers up or pick up my knee pillow! just crazy how fast and furious it came on. and frightening. I have never dealt with limitations very well - but having to learn how! ugh! I always like John Lock's saying on Lost (if anyone ever watched that series) - "Don't tell me what I can't do!" well, my body seems to be doing just that! and winning!0 -
Hi ladies. It’s a quiet day here, which in the scheme of things, is great. So those of you who know me well and know my dislike for technology will have a laugh at this: I started a go fund me page for Benny Beagle and you can’t even find it unless you search specifically for it. When I asked why, the answer was that it wasn’t linked to facebook. Not only do I need a FB account, I have to have a photo. I don’t have a digital photo of me either! Holy crap. That seems like a lot of work. But I will get around to doing it probably tomorrow.
It’s beautiful here today, about 50 degrees. The sun is staying up later which I love. I really like winter, but the one thing I don’t like is the darkness.
I did manage to exercise yesterday and will do so again as soon as I get off here. I guess the next step is getting back to logging.
Tekavincent: I’m sorry for your loss.
Hi Katla: thank you for the good thoughts! I hope so too.
Pip: what happened to your knees?
Rori: enjoy the prep! I need to convince myself to have a colonoscopy. I don’t want the meds.
JanetR: I don’t know what the prayers are for, but if you and your grandson need them, I’ll send them!
Kate UK: thank you for that reminder; many people have things far worse than I do. I need to concentrate on that. And I like the leggings!
Goto52: great photos!
Lacruiser: don’t be discouraged; see if you can find a problem, otherwise just keep on going!
Kevrit: those dogs have the right idea!
Barbie: the tacos sound great. I love the meatless crumbles.
Well I need to get on that cross trainer or I’ll never get there. Happy Valentines day to all who enjoy it; we are going out Saturday so it doesn’t really feel like it today. Well at work we did run around picking names and passing out treats to each other and that was fun. I got a yellow rose, a couple of cookies, and some chocolate kisses (all paid for by work). So that was a nice break in the routine.
Take care all, meg from sunny Omaha

Hello, Valentine Vixens!
Today is Day Two of the Week from Heck... not as successful, today! We made it to the Eye Doc by 8:30 – only to be asked “Did you complete all the paperwork, on-line?” Uh... no. Nobody mentioned I could do that, or I surely would have... *sigh* So... 20 minutes to fill out the paperwork – another 20 for the nurse to update the file – we didn’t even get to the actual appointment part until we had already been there for 45 minutes! It wouldn't have been such a surprise, except that DH is a returning patient - he just had a visit there 6 months ago.
So much for making it to my Physical Therapy, today!
It really was not a good morning – at all. First we had the lengthy appointment at the eye doctor, then I had some trials and tribulations in cancelling today’s PT – and was told they didn’t have me on the calendar for Thursday! What?!? – I know I scheduled thru this week...
I was pretty hot by the time I got DH home and got ready to leave. I did, however, avoid the stress eating... I thought about it – I really wanted some nice crunchy toast or a bacon egg and cheese biscuit... but, that wasn’t the answer. Since I was dressed for PT – I decided to take out my aggressions on the stationary bike... Did 16 minutes of hard pedal – and felt immensely better for it.
In the end, Patty, the scheduling gal looked at the history file and saw that I had been scheduled for Thursday – but one of the gals had canceled me in error.... oops. Even though the schedule is full, they are honoring my previous appointment time. Thank goodness! Otherwise I would have had to dink around for an hour between PT and work – not to mention trying to get across town during rush hour. *shudders* THAT is a fate worse than death. And while she was in there, I had Patty schedule me for every Tues and Thurs between now and March 9th – when I follow up with the Ortho.
I have to say – I am feeling a bit more pain in the old knee... once it started hurting, I guess it just wasn’t going to go back to my prior Pain-Free state... *sighs* I guess I will try the Gel stuff – to see if it helps. They shoot some gel into the joint – which is supposed to lubricate and cushion... if it works, it is good for 6 months. (Three injections over a three week period – ICK!) God only know what happens if it doesn’t work... LOL. I am thinking good thoughts. I have always been blessed by the gods, I see no reason why that would fail me, now.

NancyD – Checking the food diary is one of the fantastic things about MFP... you can go back and see what you were doing when you were successful – and when you weren’t. You know what to do... Log, Log, Log!
NYKaren – ((Hugs!!))
Lenora – I am a slob... I never make my bed. I figure the next time I see it, I am just going to be crawling back into it – so I use that two minutes for other things... LOL. Glad the refresh worked.
Pip – Oh Sugar, those hurt just to look at... I hope they heal up, fast.
Joyce – Gratz on your great PT work... Hurray for once a week! And gosh, Honey – Herbals, Decaf... you gotta sleep!
PaulaY –
Meg – Good to see you! Hope the legal thing is all cleared up to everyone’s satisfaction. Exercise is always good!
TekaVincent – Don’t sweat the food or the diary – just do what you need to do to take care of yourself. ((Hugs!!))
SueBDew – Hope you are doing OK, Sweetie.
Michele – The gallon of milk probably cost the same as a half-gallon – so, you can figure you are just fine to pour the leftover milk down the sink before you leave on Friday. I hope Vince can at least relax and enjoy once he gets there.
Marni –
Katla – So glad you had a good day.
Betsy/WA – Home is always good.
TNToni – ((Hugs!!)) Glad you got some rest. I have trouble with the photos, too – but, I find that if I can locate one that has the little button to click – it unlocks something in my computer and I can see most of them, then. I wish I could explain it better...but, I click the button – my computer gives me a warning screen – and I select the “not recommended” continue to the website... I leave the window with the picture open and then when I refresh or back up, I can see the pictures. There is one on page 160 or the photo only success thread...
Rori – Happy Jello!
Janet –
Ginger – Love my FitBit, too – but darnit, I am forever putting it on the charger and then leaving it there.
Sharon – Sorry for the work madness... Your Sister is hysterical... two pieces? Sounds like she needs to search in the couch cushions. Glad your DD and DDIL are having some success... Girl Power!
Leigh – Awwwww. You have to love it when they get it just right.
Kate – ((HUGS!!)) And awesome work on the plank. Great leggings! I got a black and white pair, recently, too... A geometric pattern in white on the black leggings.
Gloria – Glad your computer problems are resolved. We missed you!
Allie – ((Hugs!!))
Heather – Gosh, Heather – warn us, would ya? That level of concentrated cuteness could send us all into insulin shock! (OMG – how adorable are Edie, Max and Bea?) Have fun swearing at the insurance company. Oh... the key word there is “Dieters.” Once you “go off” the diet – you are basically inviting the pounds to come back and play. Nope... not me. This is a change in the way that I eat and live... I am NEVER going back... not even to 275 – much less to 367. And yes – Logging is going to be what makes it all work... it keeps me so aware... For instance – I had a salad, today... (800 calories!) I am thankful that I logged it out in advance – because by the time I am done throwing stuff on them, salads are NOT diet food... LOL. If I ate one without weighing and measuring and knowing exactly how much of what was in it... It would be a 1500 calorie extravaganza in no time. I think that “dieters” run into the same issues and re-gain the weight. Those of us who acknowledge that a permanent change has to take place? We got it licked.
Sarah – Your Mom was beautiful... and there is a strong resemblance between you. ((Hugs!!)) Glad you had a successful day!
Lisa – Fingers crossed for your Honey to get in for surgery, tomorrow.
Cheri – That makes sense... I read something somewhere about European women... they eat a lot of pastries, pasta, stuff like that – BUT – they eat it very slowly – chatting and talking all the while. They don’t eat mass quantities and they eat very slowly. Skipping breakfast = Intermittent Fasting... it’s working for me, so far. It means I can have my 800 calorie salad for lunch – and still have a few calories left over for dinner.
Margaret – My Younger Sister is the same for me. I love her – but she’s crazy. I can’t get sucked in to her mad world. ((Hugs!!))
Lanette – I am one of the silly ones... Surprised? You can search for an author in the search bar... Top of the page, click Search. A text box comes up – it has a tiny drop down arrow on the right... Click that. You can search with some detail, or just for a word... If you want to see all my posts – start typing “IremiaRe” or “GRITSandSLUTS” (or whomever) into the “Author” box and click on my name when it shows. Search and it will bring up a long list – chronological from newest to oldest. You can filter some – but selecting a category – for instance – Motivation and Support. Good Luck with your knee... I feel your pain...
Rita – Great work on the purging! I have four bags of things I still need to take to the Goodwill...
Carey – Love the thought for the day.
Carol –
Tammy - I know, right? Poor Pip~! And DOUBLE OUCH on your insurance deductible. So glad you were spared the cookout calories. ((Hugs!!)) LOL – I am very much afraid that the Arthritis Club is a mandatory membership for all of us... eventually if you live long enough, it’s coming for you!
DJ – DH and I don’t do flowers, either... same reason. When we were young, and very poor, we lived down the alley from a Florist.. sometimes we would pull some bouquets out of their trash... Pull off a couple of crushed petals and they were just lovely. They threw away a ton of good plants and flowers.
Barbie – Having your man cook you a meal that you like is a fabulous present! Enjoy!
Mary –
Yvonne – Love the Leopard leggings!!
Karen/BC – Staying under the calories is tough when they are low. I don’t know how folks do 1200 calories a day – I really don’t. Sorry for the family drama... that just makes the whole eating thing harder. We are here for you. ((Hugs!!))
Lois –
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Well, the crockpot is bubbling away at home and dinner will be ready when I get there... thank goodness. And there will be leftover Stew for tomorrow... *whew*... now I just have to decide what to do for Thursday. Maybe Salad...
Hugs for Everybody!

Heather... love, love, love the photo of your grandchildren! Beautiful children!
Sarah... your mother was lovely ... you resemble her quite a bit!
JanetR ... I remember when your grandson asked for your help previously ... praying for his safety tonight and that he will reach out again ... and again ... for however long it takes for him to become clean again. Hugs.
Michele ... I startled the dog laughing at the statement "nothing says love like shooting at the same target!" Hope you had a Happy Valentine's Day!
Kim ... My first reaction, forgive me, was similar to yours and Heather's. All I can think is that your Brother is ill... in more ways than one ... you are not going to make him well by acquiescing to your mother's requests. Please don't let them undermine all that you've achieved by letting them making you feel guilty. Hugs.
Ok, so I've been trying this weigh every day approach. It really sucks. But it really does help me see how my food choices directly impact the scale on the short term ... and, if left unchecked ...the long term. I'm expecting the scale to explode tomorrow!
My husband and I didn't do anything special for Valentine's Day ... he's hurting too much again ... and I'm too tired from the last few days of activity. So, we "carbed" ourselves silly. Spinach, Farro and Mushroom Soup, bread and butter (more than one piece... ok, lots more!) and chocolate covered raisins (thought the raisins would make it healthier!). I'm going to bed now before I do any more damage!
Have a good evening!

Heather: Thanks for the Bea fix and amping up the joy with Max and Edie
Katla: Glad you enjoyed the quote
Toni: Glad you were able to get some rest.
Karen in BC: Sorry you are feeling low. One of the girls at work today called it Singles Awareness Day. Maybe those of us who are single should celebrate too!
Michele: Good logic in travelling a bit later and missing the rush.
Kate UK: Love the pattern on your leggings.
Re: Sorry that your knee is acting up again. Maybe some Voltaren or the diclofenac sodium topical gel could help you too? Only 3 days left in the week from Heck...you can do it
Beth: I usually find it can take 2 days for the impact of my eating poorly to show up unless I've consumed a large amount of salt then it shows up the next day.
Lisa: Thinking good thoughts for your hubby hope he is able to get in for the surgery tomorrow.
Have a good night

Hi Gals,
All – thanks for all the support! I will do my best to be a supportive listener but not a participant.
Heather – like you’d fake being sick in a foreign land!
Pip – those knees look sore
Sounds like most are having a good Valentines Day, For the gal who hates it – makes you feel more alone, I understand that – I’m single, can not remember a date on valentines day ever…. LOL there must have been one but don’t remember…My system is to make sure I am busy and don’t watch TV on that day at all… a good movie is fine. The upside of single valentines day is no chocolate or high calorie deserts…

NYKaren, the meatless crumbles we used are a brand called "Beyond Beef". They weren't all that great and we probably won't buy them again. I've used Morningstar Farms and liked that brand. One of our favorites is meatless meatballs in the Gardein brand. We put the meatless meatballs in marinara sauce. Jake has his over pasta and I have mine with a package of frozen cauliflower.
Kim, I enjoyed the last book you read and recommended. I hope you'll read another one soon and let me know if it's worth reading.
Stats for today:
18,000 steps
213 minutes walking Sasha and Bess
157 minutes riding the exercise bike
10 minutes doing physical therapy exercises including a 15 second plank (first time since before my surgery)

Well I got an unexpected Valentine's Day gift! Considering we don't celebrate it was quite a surprise! The hubs will be attending a conference in early June in.....Las Vegas....and he wants to take me with him! The last REAL vacation we took was to Vegas several, okay, many years ago. So excited! I might even invest in a swim suit!
Had a roaring headache again. Geesh I thought I had this problem licked. If a pattern develops like before with more than 15 a month (and I sincerely hope not) I will have to see a headache specialist again. Sigh. Slow eating day as I tried to chew slowly and savor every morsel of food put in my mouth. Hubs and I engaged in a lively conversation WHILE slowly and savorly (sp) enjoying our dinner instead of scarfing it down our gullets.
I was thinking in the store today as I walked past the baking aisle that I have lost the amount of weight that is 3-5lb bags of sugar. I picked them up and golly gee that is quite a load off my joints!
Holding y'all close to my heart!

JANETR...I was reading through some of the posts that I have missed and I read about your grandson...I just want to let you know that I am thinking about you and praying for his return and safety. I'm sure that this situation is very difficult, scary, heart-breaking, etc. for you and for all concerned. My son went through a period of difficulty with alcohol...several DWI's, a 120-day rehab program, arrests...it takes an emotional toll! Although the issues are different, the pain is very similar. It's so hard to watch someone that you love go through all of this. My thoughts are with you---praying for you all!

POERAVA14...Yes, I would be happy to share the Tomato Soup recipe!! When I made it, I didn't have any exact amounts, so I pretty much had to wing it! Here's what I did---I took about 4 TBSP. of butter and melted it in a skillet. Then, I mixed in about 1/2 cup of flour, stirred constantly and added 1 can of evaporated milk along with some 1% milk. Bring to a boil; stir occasionally, and remove from heat. Like I said, I didn't have any exact measures, so just keep adding until it's a 'soup' consistency! After the milk gravy was made, I took 2 large cans of crushed tomatoes and pureed them in a blender. Mix the milk gravy and the tomato puree in pot, season with basil. My dad likes sugar in it, so I added sugar to it as well. It's not much of a "recipe", but then again, recipes are just guidelines! Ha Ha!! Hope it turns out...

Hope everyone had a good day. I stayed in my Jammie's all day and didn't even feel guilty. I walked in the house for 30 minutes to keep my back loose. It was fun to read what everyone did for Valentines. We both went out yesterday to get a surprise for each other.
Heather- I agree that it is so easy to regain the weight lost. Re also has a good point that if you change your eating habits and food choices you will not be "dieting". I don't consider myself on a diet, I look at this journey as a reeducation project.
Time for bed.

Thanks everyone for the hugs and encouragement. Today was a better day as far as planning meetings. But it was a day full of details. It really does feel like planning for some big event like a wedding except it less time to plan and so surreal. Last night I laid down and closed my eyes and immediately I was transported to their kitchen four weeks ago. I was leaning on the pantry, his wife was standing in front of the island, and he was on the other side leaning on his elbows. We were laughing and cutting up. I jerked up face wet with tears. This funeral planning is so surreal.1

To all my dear friends. I hadn't shared for a couple of weeks about my grandson, not sure what my thought process was there. It was as if I didn't speak of it, didn't "think" of it (yeah right) that I could just go about as if it was not happening again. I'm so glad that I did share because the out pouring of love and prayers and good thoughts you all have sent to me and for my grandson has been awesome beyond words.
I love you all and am truly thankful to have so many friends be there for me when needed. What more can we ask from a friend? Thank you my friends.

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone. Had a quiet day here. We are celebrating with family on Thursday since that is when we could get together. I got some housework done and tried to read the book for book club but I am finding it not very engaging. I had 1/2 of a brownie for dessert tonight so did OK with eating on this day of chocolate.
Lisa - Congratulations on no smoking and hope your DH gets his surgery tomorrow.
Teka - Sympathy to you and yours. Sorry you are feeling overwhelmed.
Janetr - Hope you hear from the DGS soon and that things are well with him.
Kim - Sending you strength and peace.
Meg - Good to see you posting and hope things work out for the best for you.

Heather - The Grands are so darling.
I love that your DH bought you a book about swearing in German. Enjoy.
Sarah - Your Mom was lovely. I see a family resemblance.
Michele - Vince does make sense. We try to never travel at the start or end of a holiday weekend. How long are you going to FL for? This weekend is family day weekend in Alberta. I'll be working.
Your quote is among those painted on my deck.
Pip - Your poor knees!
Karen in BC - I'm sorry you are feeling so alone.
Marni - Thanks for the Northern Hearts. They are beautiful.
Today was better at work or maybe I just decided not to care as much. One of the girls was very excited to tell me that she is so happy because she has a new man in her life. I told her I was happy for her but did not need details. I got them anyways. LOL.
I went to my weight loss nurse today. Holding steady was not what I wanted to hear.
Wrote a couple of little notes from the men down in Texas. My sister and her friend were thrilled when I made my special delivery from Borger. Apparently my daughter chose very wisely when she bought the flowers at Costco. I had to take numerous photos of them and their flowers. Jheri bought flowers and split them between me, Keira and Harmony. They are very cheerful. The little princesses were thrilled that it was Valentine's. They examined Keira's cards many times. I was presented with 2 very creative cards from them.
We stayed in. I am not fighting crowds on this day. Larry asked me but I told him unless he had reservations I did not want to go out. He requested roast beef, potatoes and cream corn. It never occurred to me that the corn would , of course, have sugar in it. I am just looking at this as a learning experience. I knew this, I just wasn't thinking. Back on track with No Sugar tomorrow. I did get him a card which he teared up over. I wasn't expecting that.
Tomorrow I am going out to Boston Pizza with our Social Committee. The kids want me to have a few drinks with them but I think I will stick to mint tea or diet cola. This first meeting should prove interesting.
I need to take up my exercise a notch. Chico is ready and willing to go on longer walks with me. I haven't been to the gym in a very long time or the pool for that matter.
Reading "The Nazi Officer's Wife" and have had a few tears already. It is amazing what capacity for cruelty we humans have.
