Will do 1 hr on the rebounder to a DVD by Gay Gasper. Not sure what the plan will be for tomorrow but I'll do something at the hotel. Going to try using my tablet to listen to an audiobook.

Becky - good for you not having those pies! Hard mints are good, huh? So sorry about your niece

janetr - good luck to your daughter!

Becca - could you please repost your last name? I meant to send you a friend request, but completely forgot it and now I can't find your post with your name. I remember that in your photo you had an elk. Lately, I get on facebook less and less

Joyce - what a wonderful thing for your daughter to do for her grandmother

Kim - sorry about the raised rates. Can't get over it. Well, you're in CA. Here our detached garage would be the perfect place for solar panels, but our electric rates are so cheap that it isn't worth it to buy solar. At least not yet. So sorry about your brother and your insurance woes

Sharon - I did find a few dresses that I took pictures of. I'm thinking that something in silver would be a nice compliment to the guy's black tuxes. There are a few questions I need to ask this one place about a dress I saw there. I liked it, but it was only in a size 2. Too small for me. Does it come in any other colors? Can they get a larger size? I'm going to write down the name of the manufacturer and if they can't get it in another size, maybe I can get it off the internet.

Almost forgot the take my food with me while we're traveling, so I preportioned out things like carrots, dried fruit, etc.

    Morning Ladies~
slept like a rock last night thank goodness.
Kim ~ so glad to see you posting and hope that your situation resolves itself, I will keep you in my prayers..
I was supposed to do to a himalyan salt cave tomorrow afternoon with my DSIL and some of her nieces ..but trying to save cash wherever I can. who knows what the future holds..
I feel empowered that I threw this all in his lap.. it is his decision ..
we have discussed finances, and I think he knows he has to make a decision on either getting rid of me and knowing that he will lose alot financially.. Or try and work through our problems and make our marriage work..
he asked me yesterday if there was a time frame? and I said I am not gonna stick this out and be ignored and no plans for the future...
He did help me figure out finances in quicken.. since I control my paycheck now and I am helping with bills. I am trying to take a page from his financial prowess and keep receipts and when I spend money come home and make sure things balance.. there was a discrepancy between bank and quicken and he helped me figure out where that came from.. the 2 checks that I wrote haven't been cashed yet..
I have a silk scarf with shamrocks on it from Ireland that was my moms, as she was full Irish and I am 1/2 will be wearing it in memory of mom and for St Pattys day. Today is my DGD 9th birthday.. will be bringing her presents today as the party will be sunday and dont want her to just throw stuff to the side.

Good morn.Got up at 4:30...not sure why.Was listening to see if DH was resting easy.....he was,so decided to let him rest.Made my huge mug of tea,
checked weather & now reading news.

    Thanks to all.I wasn't clear about a
recumbent bike.Mine will be an indoor bike for exercising only.We live in a city suburb & to ride outside would mean loading,
    driving to a park unloading,
then reversing.I agree the Terra bikes would be great for outside biking.Prefer buying local..but even so.....love the Amazon reviews & always check them out.

JANETR..such great news about your DD.

KIM.....our gas & elec also went up.Time Warner tv is no more & new owner said the fee wouldn't go up.That was true until their 1st bill came. This was "sock it to them" month! So sorry to hear about the insure problems! Have heard from ppl who have $2-5000 deductibles.WOW
You have a full plate of family hurt....So sad for you.

BARBARA,I can eat the same thing till it's gone....Hub will eat left overs....once.So the freezer gets a work out.Soup & chili is frozen flat in portions to suit.
We had a small chest freezer I hated. Now have a 25 cubic ft up right & it's getting full.I keep a lot of frozen veggies,
certain meat & fruit used in our smoothies.Does my heart good to say hub finally took to the smoothies. His are loaded with good things, including spinach.
Time to get dressed, check on DH & get my work done.If the house isn't spruced up in the morn, won't happen. Have a nice, thin day.

Penny - sounds lovely. Have a good time with the hubby, y'all have such interesting lives.

Allie - sounds like you're in a good place, mentally. Proud of you, hang on to that sense of accomplishment!

Kim - my dear woman, wish I could whisk you out of Cali. Once I went to part-time, I no longer could get insurance for work, and Corey's employers don't supply health insurance. We went to what's called short term insurance. Costs us about $600 for six months (he's 47--definitely changes with age), just for him. They will take monthly payments. For both of us it would have been $2,500 every six months, so once again, thank goodness for the VA. It doesn't satisfy the requirements of the Affordable Care Act, but you have the option to check that you can't afford other insurance on your tax forms, and the penalties are quite minimal when you file taxes. According to your income, the penalty can even be zero. Is it the best insurance? Absolutely not. But it's at least insurance. Look up short-term health insurance on the web if you want to look into it. He's with HCA.

Sorry I've been so self-involved of late. Massive changes at work, with the newspaper ownership about to fracture on March 31, so everything's up in the air there. Long, long story underlying it, but it's a family-owned group, and the father is firing the daughter who actually owns the paper, taking us and four other papers she owns out of the publishing group, as well as the central office that deals with all our ad creation, reporting and bookkeeping.

Not sure how all that's going to work out. Who fires somebody six weeks prior to the fact? Believe it or not, it all started because the father doesn't like the daughter's boyfriend. Whom she hired as her second-in-command. I'm simply trying not to think about it, because I can't affect it one way or the other. Not easy.

Hope all hubbies, children, grandchildren and family members get good news from all kinds of directions.

    Love y'all...

    Have finally caught up.

Beth: Like the idea of food confusion; it makes sense. Hope your husband's operation went well.

Ginger: My husband also had the habit of bringing home special little desserts, but since I joined MFP he only brings home one for himself and waits until after I have left the table to indulge.

Chris: If you have an iphone or an ipad, there is a great app called Happy Scales. You enter your weight daily or weekly and it shows your weight trends, evening out the little ups and downs.

Sarah: Hope your doctor visit goes well. I had a tumor ten years ago. There were three months between the diagnosis and the post-op biopsy results. Not knowing in the interim was really scary.

Karen: Really glad that Olivia got to go home.

Kelly and Janettr: Joaquin and Mia are beautiful!

Lanette: Your breakfast dish looks tasty! Re exercise calories, I eat back less than 25% of them. I mainly use them to give myself a little cushion.

    Re: Your loss is inspiring.

Penny: Glad your husband's outing had a happy outcome. Your photograph is stunning.

Paula and Denise: Hope the scales start down again for you both soon!

Patceo - It is best to buy the best exercise bike you can afford. We have a Life Fitness recumbent one. Amazon sell reconditioned ones. We have had it several years now from new and never had a problem with it. When we bought a cheap elliptical we had endless problems and repairs. Now we have another Life Fitness we have never had a problem. We have a cheap rower, which is still fine.

    Heather UK

PS - Just looked at my croissant recipe while I was making the mix. It makes 30 :noway:

Kim - Welcome back. I have really missed you. <3 I can't imagine having to pay for medical care. We sometimes don't get routine treatment as fast as we would like, but at least it's free. Internet, phone/tv provision also seem cheaper over here. I suppose they think everyone in CA is rich! Your petrol (gas) is cheaper than ours, I believe, and clothes and food seem cheaper, judging by what people say. Our utilities are also going up, by not by the same percentage. Last year we got a refund on our direct debit payments. :D
We are already eating massively into our savings and this move and renovation will deplete them even more. But I reckon I'm not going to live forever.

Kim ... so sorry that life is complicated for you right now ... thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers.

Life is never dull around here. Got a call from my mom last night that my dad had been taken by ambulance to the hospital with severe abdominal pain. Turned out to be a twist in the intestine. A colonoscopy has taken care of it for the moment. They're waiting and watching. But my mom's way of handling this kind of stuff frustrates me to no end. She calls frightened, has me call the family, then doesn't update any further. A friend took her home at 11:30 after my dad was feeling better. Did she call me? (No cell phone) No, she didn't want to wake me? Of course, I got to worry all night until I got ahold of her this morning. Parents and children just don't get it!

Today, my immune system has succumbed to the crud ... I have a lousy cold! Stress will do that to you...

My insurance is $640 a month right now with 7000 deductible. Part of why didn't go in for my knee. DH company he worked for is covering some of the cost right now. So it costs me about $200 a month. That money will run out some time next year. My plan is to continue in a high deductible plan. Unfortunately 60-65 has the highest insurance costs. Our costs for DH surgery are yet to be determined, too. I do not get health insurance with my job. I look at it as what I make helps with the cost of this insurance. I'll continue to work as long as I can. Fortunately I love what I do.

I said it when the affordable health care act started. If they do nothing to work at keeping drug and medical care costs down this will not last long. I wish I was not right.

Penny your photo was a day brightener.

I consider Jack and I very fortunate when it comes to health care costs. We both pay our $104 (or whatever it is) per month out of or SS benefits for Medicare Part B coverage. Then due to Jack having served in the Air Force for 20+ years, TriCare (government insurance) pays what ever Medicare does not, including prescriptions. We have not had to pay anything for any of the surgeries we have had, etc. And we go to the local doctors of our choice. It's definitely beneficial. Very thankful for this.

(((Kim))) I've always been perfectly contented with paying Scandinavian-style income tax because of all the benefits it confers, like well-maintained roads and public transportation and tuition-free university. But most of all I'm grateful for the health care. When I go to the doctor I pay about $20 and when I spent a week in the hospital after my micro-stroke it didn't cost me a thing.

Kate - What are they celebrating in Spain that they erect such monumental sculptures and then burn them? I can't imagine it's for St. Patrick's day. :noway:

Becca I've been meaning to compliment you on your gorgeous plates and bowls. It's obvious you've spent some time in Japan!

My flight was just a tad exciting. This route has just a small plane, a 14-seater, so everybody gets a window seat AND an aisle seat. Normally it's a spectacular flight over craggy mountains and glaciers and fjords full of icebergs. But today there was lots of cloud cover, snowfall and strong wind. We flew in right over the center of town and I spotted my husband in his distinctive red anorak a hundred meters below us. ("Town" I call it, but it's just a collection of a couple dozen 1-2 story buildings.) In the mile or so between the town and the runway, the wind picked up and blew so much loose snow into the air that visibility was down to where even the runway lights were blurry. We got bounced around in the turbulence as well, but we managed to land.

For the next few days I won't be in charge of my own meals. There's a communal mess hall in this town, and you eat what they serve. Fortunately for the people who live here - and unfortunately for me - the food is great. A bit low on the fresh veggies, but what can you expect at 79° North latitude?

Time to tootle off to the mess hall...

/Penny, pretty darn close to the North Pole now

My duck breast was fantastic. I allowed 200 calories for it as it was quite small. Previously I have found breast to be a bit tough and tasteless, but I cooked it very carefully in my best chef mode from the TV (rubbed the skin with truffle salt! ) and it was v tasty and tender!!! Go me! :drinker: Normally I cook slow roasted legs, which we love.
Had it with the mashed carrot, rutabaga and celeriac which I froze before and flat green beans. Counted in 300 calories.
One tip for newbies. When I freeze stuff I always write the calorie count on the label. So today my mash clearly stated 200 calories. (2 portions) I have a terrible memory and that is a great help. :D

Michele – As the Mother of the Bride, you get to chose the color and style; then you let the Mother of the Groom know what color you are wearing? My Mother wore a nice Canteloupe dress she had made. I designed my own wedding dress and veil and she made that. Mimi crotched a beaded belt that you linked it over itself and it hung down a couple of feet. Both sisters were in the wedding in a nice deep avocado sheath dress matching the style less the beaded and lace long opened coat, and a Juliette cap veil. She also made my ‘going away suit’ and I found shoes that actually matched both colors – dark avocado and brown check. We borrowed their car; and, they girls were down in the back seat but started laughing so they got out. I think the nicest thing we had was a box of reception food for our trip, we did not get much at the wedding. They were in a ‘small’ cake box and one the passenger side. We wolfed them down on our way to the Smokey Mountains.

We used to have a Mars in Albany; now closed – it actually moved. Made all sorts of candy they sold to the public in a small building. My favorite was the ‘melt in your mouth peppermints’.

Maybe Pete will grow on you. Louis always did things around parent’s house, even though they had not asked him to. Neither of the other SsnL lifted a finger … neither were good with tools, one was left-handed. I love grapefruit from FL. Even though I am not supposed to eat it due to the medications I am on. Go figure! My belly is bigger and I have been drinking a lot more water on most days. Yesterday I bought a couple of bras and several pair of panties, on sale at Victoria Secret. Their bras were $20 less that the ones at Dillard’s. The ones I had bought at Dillard’s a couple of years ago for $38 were now $65. I’m not going to spend that much for a bra. The ones at Victoria Secret fit me, and one is a T-shirt bra that you really cannot tell you have one on since it is smooth all the way around. Panties ‘on sale’. None of the lingerie was on sale; but, they would donate $2 to the Susan G. Khonen (sp) Cancer Society. But, that did not happen for me. Three pair of panties for $39.
My birthday is also next week … the 22nd and I will be 66. Guess now Louis can tell people he can ‘trade’ me in on three 22-year-olds while he has the chance. I keep telling him, he could not keep up with them. At least not at the same time. Going to take the T-shirt bra back and try on a smaller cup size. When I tried it on this morning at home, it just did not seem to fit me as well as the other style. I could buy a black one, if they don't fit.

Katla – Don’t feel left out; Louis is dragging his feet on the porch door. We are having the house appraised next Thursday, so I am not particularly happy with him. Oh well, slowly but surely we’ll get it finished.

KetoneKaren – Alert and I love the rabbit. My oldest DGD had a rabbit like that and my DMGD had a cat.

Paula – Mallory walked her Mama down the aisle and the preacher asked ‘who wants this family joined’ and she said, ‘I do’. She stood there throughout the service and after he kissed Tami, he leaned over and gave her a peck on the cheek; after their first dance, he danced with her standing on his feet and then he picked her up and twirled her around. She loves the daylights and stars out of him. Her Dad is a bit jealous of Will and her ‘talking about what all he does for and with her only makes it more obvious’.

Wasn’t that a baby boy that also ended up in the NICU? I think his name was something like “Neil” … has anybody heard from his grandmother? Don’t remember her name; but, it seems like is was someone also named “Karen”. ???? Maybe I just imagined it, could be.

Gloria – What test are you talking about?

Heather – My DMS had her entire condo remodeled and said the paint job was awful. Asked if we’d come down and let Louis re-do the paint job. She used a dark blue (not navy) in bathroom and they put one coat on, so it is streaking; but, after 4 months of having workers in her home, she was ready for them to get the “kitten” out of there. She said they’d come and stay about 3 hours, then leave.

Yvonne and Heather – I rarely wear dresses either; but have a few, one that I bought is really too short to be a dress and a little too long to look good as a tunic. I rarely wear stockings, if ever. Wear boots, ankle or knee, and/or flats. Socks with all except the flats. If the foot-lets don't show, I will wear a pair of them. No regular heels for me, too unstable on my feel. I do have one pair that I just can’t part with. Got some of those foam things to go in them to keep them from sliding off my feet.

Pip – If it has stuffing in it, Cracker is going to tear it apart and have stuffing all over the house. Chocolate can be deadly to a dog; never, ever let them eat a grape or raisin, surgery might help but it is a ‘killer’ usually. We don’t give Cracker any table scraps or anything considered ‘human’ food. Your Vet can give you a ‘long’ list of ‘human foods’ that will make a dog sick or possibly have deadly consequences.

Heather – We had a house payment and a balloon note on the land we finally built on. We were surprised that our house ‘sold’ the night we listed it with an agent. Another agent was looking for a house that her aunt might be interested in that was ‘move in ready’. Ours was, had new carpet and linoleum and was freshly painted throughout and outside. Louis took my 'lump sum that I got from the time I filed, through the date that I was actually put on it. By that time I had already gotten the check.

Becca – I had a corned beef sandwich yesterday and I think that is what has upset my tummy; severe cramping. I actually liked the ‘hot wing sandwich’ better. Little sliders. DOGD wants to go to “Mellow Mushroom” to celebrate her birthday. With what I have eaten today, so far and factoring in my protein bar at night hasn’t let me with too much I can eat for supper, without going over. I’ve already decided what I will get and maybe eat a small piece of pizza. It will be too tempting; but, I won’t eat the crust.

I’ve got to start straightening up the house for the appraisal. What a real P.I.T.A. Going to start with the kitchen because it is the room where everything get dumped on the counter (not very much counter room either).

Health insurance-prior to Obamacare we paid $500 deductible out-of-pocket per person now $5500 each! We cannot even afford to go to a doctor. Our health insurance payment per month has gone up from $50 for me on my husband's plan to $350 a month! Unbelievable! I would rather not pay health insurance and pocket the $1200 a month that together our insurance costs us now!

We are also blessed with insurance from hub's job at Rockwell....Boeing.I asked where would we have been..with my huge medical bills without our insurance. He said dead & buried. Probably so! One of our DDs has a $6000 deductible.Just unbelievable & a crying shame for everyone in that position.JMO

Kate, those apartments are something else. I can't imagine what the different views they would have from those balconies.

Heather, how can a bread rise in the refrigerator??? I thought they always needed a warm spot.

Well I guess I should be glad I am as old as I am, 67 and Charlie 68. We pay our Medicare A and B through our SS checks and then our additional insurance which covers medicine is $29/month. I can't remember what the deductible is for our non hospital costs but I have never met it. It is waived for our medicine. My cardiac cath with stent last year was $42,000 and I paid not quite $2000. Our water and electric has really gone up though. Our sewer system here in Evansville is very old and it brought up the cost. We have a heat pump and in the dead of winter or a very hot summer we get close to $200. Normal bill is around $110. We hope with our new windows that goes down. At least that's what the salesman said. But that's what sales people say to get you to buy.

    Penny, what an exquisite picture.

Allie wrote 'I feel empowered that I threw this all in his lap.. it is his decision ..

You are still letting him control you. And you saying 'getting rid of me'?????? You aren't a piece of paper or piece of garbage to get rid of. You are a precious woman, a valued human being. Please don't refer to it as 'getting rid of me'.
