Heather – Gee, I’d love to be ‘allergic’ to paying taxes! Our taxes here used to allow you to claim interest on just about anything, credit cards, cars, and all that got changed to where we can claim interest on our houses, property taxes, insurance premiums, donations, and a lot of other things; but, still the IRS eats you up. They keep talking about changing the brackets or taxing all purchases (but, who would report that?), certainly not the stores who collect the money. It is a mess and a constant hoopla about country running out of money and we might have to ‘shut it down’. They’ve been ‘robbing Peter to pay Paul’ all my life. Used to be the person that ‘worked’ got Social Security benefits; now widows and children get a share. Sure, they need to be able to pay their bills; but it doesn’t seem to be in a fair amount. This year, for the first time in about 3 or 4 years we got a 3% raise, my check (take home) went DOWN a $1 because Medicare Insurance went up. What good is that, other than thankfully it did not go down more. I am paying over ½ of my retirement towards COBRA’ed insurance because DH doesn’t have any health insurance. But, it is good and I rarely have to pay anything for MD and/or hospital stays. Mainly, because any MD that accepts Medicare (and other insurances) are supposed to ‘write off’ what they don’t get paid; but, to get around that, they charge more for their services. When my boys were born, I think the costs for an OB/GYN was something like $1000 - $1500; today it is over $5000 in some places, then you have to add the hospital bill on top of that, operating room if you have a C-section.
It is difficult to maintain a friendship when there is constant dissention or having to listen to one of the 4 moaning and groaning about her life. What do the other 2 have to say? We listen to the same with our DOS, who I have said that he and DDnL#1 have had to file for bankruptcy. Last weekend, they had a bad enough argument over it that it got more heated than it needed to be. She whines because ‘everybody’ thinks ‘she is the cause for it’. Well, if the truth hurts, too bad! Own it. She called and told me ‘you’ (or someone) needs to come down here and ‘get Trey’ before I have him ‘locked up’. So ‘how’ would that affect your lives? She doesn’t think about the possible consequences, like when she quit her job without even talking to him about it; then went 17 weeks without a salary. She ran up credit cards that she had gotten, using his income when applying for them. They had been working on paying off their bills using the snowballing effect; but, that did not work and he could not get one to even ‘work with them’. Got sued over it; but, it will go away with the bankruptcy. As for myself; I was NOT about to go down and get involved. So Louis did, and he told him to go back into the house and 'grow a set'. He did go inside, don't know what got said; but, yesterday she called and asked 'if I had plans' for Mother's Day. So I'm going to a paint a door decoration party.
Maybe one of the other ladies has a closer relationship with her and y’all can all ‘agree that you just disagree’ about some subjects. That is what we (sisters and our husbands) are about anything ‘political’ or ‘religious’. But, one will start a conversation that gets heated and then pulls out and watches.
'Old money' rarely 'brag' about it; it is the 'nouveau riche' who do and who usually have earned it ‘under the table’ to keep from 'having to pay taxes'. Now, all this is IMHO.
Michele – I take anything that needs to be hemmed, like jeans to our tailor in town; he usually has them done within a couple of days. I cannot hem them on my machine because the material is way too thick. If it is simple, he will usually have it ready within 2 days. When I first started losing, I took the pants and jeans I had to him to basically have him take them in; but, he warned me they could not be taken in again without them looking funny. But, after losing 2 sizes, I wanted some ‘new’ ones

Mary and Kachka (sp?) those are quite the pictures! You could be poster women for MFP. I should put those pics on my fridge. Even if I haven't been posting much here lately except for light conversation and have not been logging my food, I am trying to consciously watch my intake. I am gradually losing, ounce by ounce but it isn't much. I saw a picture some one took of the choir one morning and boy was it an eye opener.
Speaking of pictures, here is our finished house. Well the two windows still need to be put it and Window World has no idea when they will be in. All they can say is that it takes 10-14 days. Well it has been 15 days and I am doing the math for them.
All of my labs from the other day came back good. I was really surprised that my Hgb A1c is 5.2!!!!!But my blood count is good now. My blood glucose was 105 which is about what it runs.
I had some Chili tonight and am wondering and watching to see what my colon will do.
Heather, all I can say is wow. Am speechless that some one has that kind of attitude.
Allison, since you said 'she', I assume that SIL is sister in law. Is this Tom's sister? Is she some one that that you know will not talk to Tom?

Dana and janetr: I rarely visit facebook anymore because it is so intrusive. I hate being targeted for advertizing, and I'm not happy with the lack of privacy protections. I stop by to see posts from my DD, and from a few special friends. Otherwise i am very disappointed in what it has become.
Kelly: (((HUGS)))
Heather: (((HUGS))) I wouldn't be comfortable with that particular woman, either. I wonder whether she is a user or a victim, maybe a bit of both. Her husband is less ambiguous. :ohwell:
Joyce: Your home looks wonderful!
I went to the stable today and rode Arrow for a while. He was very good at first. We walked, trotted and cantered in both directions. Then he didn't want to do anything anymore. Anyone with horse experience, please help me figure out if he's lazy or whether there is another issue. What might it be? He is 18. Did he just need some time for easy going to catch his breath? He wasn't wheezing or making any sounds that would lead me to wonder if he was in distress but I lack the experience to separate lazy from winded or tired. Cheryl??? Anyone???

Good evening!!
Kayla Your horse maybe out of breath or maybe his hooves and bones hurt him. I didn't lope my old horses just took them on walks. They still love going out. Compared to a human age he would be elderly.
Joyce I love your house! The windows are looking sharp!
Linda-21 Welcome! I think I lost your message! My daughter does Yoga classes most of the day and a part time job at a doctor's office. It's perfect for her with 2 young kids. She does very well and has a lot of private clients.
Heather I understand completely. It's hard for me to keep my big trap shut especially if I feel that I right! It sounds like fun looking at old magazines!!
I have a rough day today, I found out by accident because my sister screwed up (always a screw up) that her and my mother bought a house together south of us. They had the house rekeyed and the receipt on my mother's credit card was texted to my phone. So, the signature wasn't hers, it was my sister's; I called the lock service to find out what was going on. He confirmed that he rekeyed my mother's new house. So, I guess my sister finally worked her until they bought a house. My mother is 88 and really don't have the money to buy a house. My sister was staying with her daughter in Vegas doing massages.
So being a little uptight, which I shouldn't be I ate a piece of apple pie!! Dang!!
You see my mother lived with me and my DH, and when I had my back surgery my sister came out to help. That's when everything fell apart. Then mom left for a visit to Vegas for a month but turned into 2 months. I was suppose to pick her up at the airport but the day before she canceled the flight and that's when the lies and deception began. She moved out in Nov/16. There were threats and nasty remarks. She started taking things that she gave me 25 years ago. The saga continues...
good evening - I just finished 30 min. on my exercise peddler to make up for the pie!!

Hello everyone!
It's been a while since I've been on this thread--lots going on. I was doing pilates and broke both bones in my wrist in February. My poor, beloved pilates teacher felt awful. She took me to the ER, called DH, and stayed until he got there. We both agreed later that we should have known better (and sort of, but not really, did). I got back to pilates soon after that but am still taking it easy. I had surgery to repair the break in early March. Unfortunately, my poor DH was supposed to have rotator cuff surgery, which had to be delayed until a couple of weeks ago--this after I nagged him for months to schedule the surgery.
Last week I made the decision to leave my job. Luckily DH is supportive. It's really not the right place for me. It was such a hard decision, and I spent all last week feeling as if everything was presing in on me and I had failed. But I really havent, and as DH says, I'm resilient. A good friend just says, "we're tough old birds." I'm not sure what's next. Consulting? I have a pretty wide network and a good reputation, and my current place would be happy if I did some consulting for them. But I want to write and think I'll need to have time off to develop the discipline and habit.
Those are the hard things. The positives are a planned hiking vacation with DH and DS in Portugal in June, Ecuador in July, and a 40 lb. weight loss in the past year. I'm strong enough to hike for miles!! My son is doing well.
Got to go--need to help DH walk the dogs since he only has one use able arm. But I'll be back tomorrow to respond to many wonderful posts and pictures--and some hard ones.

Hi everyone! I know I am late to the party as it is almost May, but am looking for friends so we can motivate and support each other.
I started back logging everything last Sunday. I don't have a specific goal for April other than to walk briskly 5 days per week and log absolutely everything I eat.
I do have a yearly goal. I would like to lose 50 pounds in one year. My oldest son is getting married on April 21, 2018. The mother of the bride is in top shape and gorgeous. I don't want to be the frumpy fat mom in all the pictures. I hate having to be in pictures ugh
Ok I also want to be healthy and make life style changes that I can maintain even after the wedding. But hopefully one will lead to the other.

Today was the first meeting of the line dance performance group for the county fair. It's a small group that includes two less experienced dancers. We'll be doing nine dances and I know seven of them. I don't dance them to performance standard yet, but I have a good head start. I love performing and I'm looking forward to the several months of regular practice.
I am almost finished reading a great book--"My Old Man and the Mountain"---a memoir about climbing Mt. Everest. I highly recommend it. It's a captivating book even for someone like me who is not a mountain climber or even a hiker.

hello my ladies!! Mary and Macha wow wow WOW!! I am so proud of you two, and all of us for that matter! You all seem to be doing awesome. I saw I am suppose to kick some one in the keester, but I can't remember who.... hahaha! It was something like a 2 lb gain, so just a light tap of da boot! Everyone here is smart, and knows what needs to be done to get back with the program. At 50+ I think we have soaked up all the diet information, healthy eating plans, and could probably do some of our exercise tapes in the dark and get the moves right.... We are JUST that awesome ya know???
Here are some pictures I thought you'd like: One is of my foods I got at the food bank, (just mine, so no pics of the Oreo travel packs, or cherry danishes! Another is of my great lunch, (the other day). One is of my living room, and one other will be my son getting his award for being in the honor group!

heehee the last pic is of our "Den". Its just moving the camera from the right, where the livingroom is to the left, where the dining/library/den is! And where the "ugly green alligator chair" is. My husband bought it, because it was in the cheap part of the furniture store, and was just ugly enough that he had to have it!4

Dana in AR: Thank you for your expertise in horsemanship. I appreciate your comments. I'm sorry about the difficult situation with your mom. (((HUGS)))
KarenE: I'm so sorry about your broken wrist bones. I've had two wrists with broken bones from falls on ice a few years apart, so I have some idea what you're going through. It has been several years since the last break and both wrists are doing better, but I'm also taking weekly bone density medicine. :ohwell:
Helen from WI: Welcome to a great group of supportive women. Post often for friendship and support.
Becca: I love the photos! Is your son wearing blue on the left side of the picture?
DH is reading in the living room and I plan to go in and watch TV. After that, I'm reading a book I like. Have a great day & evening.

Thanks all.
When I first signed up here, someone suggested taking a "before" photo, and then taking progress photos. Sometimes it can be really hard to see the progress when you look in the mirror, but the pictures tell the tale.
BTW - my name, Machka, means female cat in Serbo-Croatian. It's been my name/nickname for years now ... at least 15 years. Even my husband knew me as Machka before I eventually told him my given names ... he still calls me Machka. And if you're trying to figure out how to pronounce it ... it's pronounced: "match-ka".8 -
It was a frustrating day. I'm surprised I actually got anything done. Tomorrow is a new day so I will go with that.3

Don't really know why, but I can't seem to get to sleep, so here I am
Lenora - I remember when we lived in PA (near DE), for any large purchase, you ALWAYS bought in DE (which doesn't have sales tax). One time we bought a TV and Vince said to the store owner "since it's being delivered to PA, I guess I'll have to report it". The store owner just said "what's between you and Uncle Sam is between you two". We didn't report it. Have fun at the party
Joyce - great numbers at the MD's. Your home looks so much better without those bushes in front
dana - (((HUGS))) Families can really be something else, huh?
KarenE - so sorry about the bones in your wrist. How did it happen? Best of luck on the next phase of your life. I know you'll do great
Helen - welcome! I like your picture
Becca - awesome lunch! What a proud momma you are!

Bad day yesterday started well 30 min vid with weights, protein shake then shopping. Tempted while shopping ate 100g chocolate ginger. Thought never mind I'll do another vid later. Came home and started snacking Ugh did 5 mile advanced Leslie Sansone vid but still snacked. Gave up logging. Not sure why it happened don't feel stressed, bought myself a new coat, nothing bad going on in my life.
Just thought though I'm seeing the doctor next week for the results of my ultrasound and blood checkups so maybe subconsciously worrying about that.
Well today is another day onward and upward I'll resolve not to let one day derail me

Morning! Working on my first cup of coffee and counting my blessings. I won't have an answer to my problem for another week, but feel very supported by everyone, thank you
Very successful concert last night, and now a marathon day of work and auditions till 9 p.m. Am working the whole day auditioning tomorrow- the good news is I won't have to drive far, this festival is in my home town.
I am looking forward to a fresh start in May, I am creeping up again weight wise. Choices are guided by emotion not strategy right now. And I know you ladies will remind me that strategy is stronger than wishes!
Going to remind myself to get out of my chair and walk every chance I get today and tomorrow-otherwise it will be a very sedentary 2 days.

Katla - you are absolutely right, she is primarily a victim, and for that I feel very sorry for her, but she is also colluding and abetting his financial shenanigans, despite the fact that he is using her (and the children). He is only allowed into the UK for 11 weeks a year to achieve "tax exile" status. He has been doing this since before the second child was born. She benefits from an enviable apartment in Central London, a big house in the country, which her pregnant daughter is going to live in for a while, a new build mansion, which she looks after, but is a very complicated legal cheat going through her son and a house in the French countryside. Her children also had a London apartment bought for them each, which they rent out. The "husband" has an apartment in Gibraltar. She tells us, many times, that she is close to a breakdown, mentally and physically, but when I pointed out, vociferously, the terribleness of the situation she is in, and what she could do about it, she got very upset. She said I was "horrible" and she was leaving the restaurant. She didn't and we changed the subject to her various ailments.
I would be happy to stick by her if she saw the error of her ways, but she is prepared to change nothing, just complain about it.
Oh well, I just have to make a decision not to see her and let everyone know. We have all been a team for so long.
This morning I managed to get a lot done on the bike and did some on the elliptical, one handed! I then managed some floor exercises, but no downward dog! I will do another 200 this afternoon while watching a favourite TV programme. I find it hard to rack up the calories without the rower, which is a great all round machine. Highly recommend it.
I've booked a lunch out for tomorrow when the viewers come. A pub in the local town which is new to us. Makes a change.
Lots of love to all,. I will be able to talk about something else soon. I promise.
