You aren't willing to put in the effort to do it. You're making excuses such as not being able to afford to eat less food. If you are married to the idea of the dollar menu, go once a day instead of twice. Or simply order fewer $1 items each time you go.
Yeah because my $5 a day I have to spend is obviously going to get me A TON at the grocery store
You can get a bag of dried beans, some basic seasoning, and some frozen veggies for $5. The next day you have $5 more, so you pick up some oats, maybe some rice. The next day you have $5, so you get something else -- maybe a bag of potatoes or some pasta, some more frozen veggies. Five dollars a day is $35 a week. It will be a bit monotonous at first, but as you build your pantry, you will have a couple more options.
Potatoes, pasta, rice, oats, lentils, black beans, chickpeas, frozen broccoli, frozen mixed veggies, carrots, apples, cabbage, little squeeze bottles of lemon or lime juice to add some flavor (or if you really want to save pennies, some apple cider vinegar) -- when I was paying off my student loans, these were the staples of my diet. I still eat a lot of them now, even though I am not required to.
$5 a day *will* get you a ton at the grocery store if you're picking up the right things and if you're able to think of it as a weekly budget.10 -
This is interesting. On the planet, the poorest of the poor subsist on less than $2/day. You manage to be 100 lb overweight on the princely sum of $5 per day. What land of milk and honey do you inhabit?18

Enter your stats in MFP, along with an accurate activity level, goal weight, and reasonable rate of loss. MFP will calculate a calorie target for you. Eat a variety of foods to achieve that calorie target, focusing on those that provide nutrition (macro and micro nutrients), satiety (fills you up) and enjoyment (keeps you happy while losing). Track as accurately as possible. Exercise if you enjoy it, eating back a portion of those calories when you do. Monitor and adjust over time.

Considering you haven't logged anything how do you know you are in a deficit? If you aren't maintaining a calorie deficit you won't lose. Doesn't matter if you are eating off the dollar menu or all organic fruits/veggies. Stop making excuses. If you want to lose only you have the power to do this. We just provide suggestions and you have had plenty on this thread and the other to help you reach your goal.3

It should be easy to lose weight then..... losing weight is just eating less calories. At your weight all you need to do is restrict a little bit and it will come flying off. The hard truth you don't want to hear is that you have to pony up and practice personal responsibility. Sorry. Complaining isn't going to get you anywhere (Unless you complain WHILE DOING). There is nothing "Easy" about changing life habits!! Either work through it, or fail. I'm sorry but I'm not sorry! Pony up! Keep your chin up! Work on your attitude, because if you don't approach life with a positive attitude all you do is make it 100x harder than it needs to be!4 -

$5 a day is $35 a week and I could shop healthy on that. *shrug* How bad do you want it?
Agree.
I just bought 5 lbs of rice for about $3 which will last me almost 2 weeks, and that's eating a boatload of rice every day. Large bags of frozen veggies keep well and aren't expensive. Chicken where I live is usually $2.99/lb, less when you find it on sale.
I save tons of money when I eat like this, especially compared to eating out, even if it is the Dollar menu.4 -

Where did I say anything about the grocery store? I said to order fewer $1 items off the dollar menu. Spend $4 instead of $5, for example. Or spend $3. You are eating more than you need to eat, which means that you are spending more money than necessary to feed yourself.4 -

I buy a pack of 4 chicken breast which cost about $8-$9, cook them on Sunday and eat for lunch all week. You can pair it with some rice which costs about $4 a pound (if you buy the expense one).
5 Lunches= $13
You can make a pot of chili to eat for lunch or dinner if you like. I make 3lbs of beef ($10), 3 cans of tomato sauce ($1.50), canned kidney beans ($1), canned pinto beans ($1), canned black beans ($1), and 3 packets of chili seasoning ($3).
5 Dinners= $17.50
You have ten meals that cost you about $1.75 each which equals out to $3.50 per day which is $1.50 less than your budgeted $5.00 per day.
It can be done.8 -

Yes, your first step is to do this to get a target calorie goal.
Then either buy the staples that janejellyroll suggested or look up the calories on the $ menu items if you want to stick with that and track EVERYTHING in MFP. Stick to your calorie limit.3 -
FWIW... $5 at Mcd's can get you a side salad with 2 grilled chicken pieces on top. I get that all the time at BK and Mcds.5

It can seem overwhelming tracking everything and figuring out the app at first, but it's also exciting! After a week or two you'll have it down.1

I was going to do calculation for you to figure out how many calories you can consume to lose one pound a week, but I'm missing some information. The good thing is MyFitnessPal can generate this information for you right away. Please follow the steps below for the information to show up:
I'm on the mobile app
1. Click on More (on the bottom)
2. Input the following information below
A. Current weight
B. Goal weight
C. And weekly goal (I would start at lose 1 pound to see how things go)
A box will pop-up asking if you want to update your goals click on the "yes" icon.
If you can eat the calories goals listed, and track it into myfitnesspal and you're eating at a deficit you'll lose weight. I've lost 35 pounds so far eating the calories MyFitnessPal told me. You got this Op! Please let me know the calories MyFitnessPal listed for you to lose at 1 pound a week. If you can track it into your diary and do this on a daily basis this will help you stay on track. I would normally eat back at least 50% of calories I burn from working out. I would normally take a 30 minute walk when I was starting out (no gym membership).6 -

Why can't you adjust and have a weekly budget for food purchases and putting money away for bills, etc.? Why do you have to spend $5/day vs. $35 (or even $25)/week?2 -
A nutritionist in NY wrote a cookbook for her dissertation/thesis of nutritious meals for $4/day, because that is what the average person receiving food stamps in the US gets. The cookbook is in PDF form and is available free here:
https://www.leannebrown.com/
I've looked at it, and the recipes are good. She also has great shopping and pantry advice.
But look, if you don't want to do something, there are many excuses not to "be able" to do it. Adulting is hard. I ate fast food every day for 12 yrs and gained 120pounds. I've yo-yo'd in the past. A few weeks ago I had a "come to Jesus" moment regarding my health and now I'm committed fully to doing this, and after just 4 weeks, I feel so much better than I have in years.
Ya gotta "get your mind right, Boss", and no one can do that for you, but you.

You didn't get to be close to 300 lbs eating nothing but a chicken wrap twice a day and a bagel in the morning....
The chicken wraps are under 500 cals, and the bagel likely is as well. That's 1500 calories. What else are you eating/drinking?15 -

Feel free to eat 2,000 than this means you'll just lose slightly more than 1 pound but definitely less than 1.5 pounds. Track everything you eat into your dairy in MyFitnessPal even food from the dollar menu. Start seeing how much you consume if you're eating 2,000 calories you should be eating at a deficit and thus losing weight. However, weight can fluctuate so give it a few weeks. If you want to eat from the dollar menu I definitely think that's fine as a Taco Bell eater when I was in college I get it. All you need is a deficit so it's fine.
Let us know how things go for you!1 -
