....and when Finn the Minnesotan gets there, everybody's gonna jump for joy!

.... Of course he's probably too young to understand the reference.......

4:24 finish. Quad and calf cramps murdered my second half. Still ok with my time though, I got the 26.2

Edit to add, the weather kicked my *kitten*. It was only 73f, but there was a lot of sun and humidity was close to 60%. My runs have been a lot cooler.

Oddly, I feel great with my finish. Sure, I was 24 minutes slower than my hoped for, but I was less than double my first HM time, from less than a year ago.

    Congrats!!!!

@MNLittleFinn Way to go!!!! Highest of Fives to you for finishing. And especially in that weather.

I did run today, but it was hot and humid so I only made it 4.1 miles. Last summer in this weather I'd have only made it 2 miles, so I consider that an improvement. Heat and humidity make 4 miles feel like 8.

Gotta check the weather for tomorrow. I'd like to do a long run. It may thunderstorm, which would mean it'd have to be on the treadmill, we'll see.

Way to go! You ran better with quad cramps at Grandma's than I did with quad cramps at Boston.

You have no clue how much you saying that means to me. Thanks.

So I'm going to replace my Fitbit... I'm thinking of the Forerunner 235.

    Any thoughts? Pluses? Negatives?

A friend has the viviactive hr and loves it. They are pretty similar, but the forerunner tracks cadence and vo2.

I have the 230. Same thing but no built in HRM. I love it. The cadence info is great to have. VO2 max isn't super necessary, as it's an estimate, but it is cool to have.

You can't go wrong with a Forerunner, no matter what model you choose. I used to have a 205 which was like wearing a house-brick on my wrist. I loved it. I now have the super-basic Forerunner 25 and it does everything I need. Just depends on how many bells and whistles you want. I'm sure I'll upgrade eventually.

@MNLittleFinn I think it's normal to not be able to sleep. I can't push my runs too late in the day or I'm wired like a little kid with a sugar basket.

But since you're up, how about a read? http://www.shutupandrun.net/2015/02/8-reasons-it-might-be-hard-to-sleep.html?m=1

PBs to the max today for me at the Winter Solstice Lighthouse to Lighthouse 15 km run! I'd taken it very easy all week after last weekend's 80 km hike, and it paid off. 15 km in 1:25:50 including a 10 km PB of 56:04. Feeling pretty bloody happy!

    Wow, great pb s

    @Sliedur

You can definitely work up to the 10K distance slowly and steadily.

In Nov I could not run more than a couple of minutes without nearly keeling over. I did the C25K program and completed it in Feb. I have run three 5K races since then and in training have been increasing my miles by 10% every couple of weeks. Last week I was able to run 6.25 miles. I think now I will stabilize at this distance until I run an official 10K on the fall and then proceed to push onward and upward. Good luck in reaching your 5K goal.

Thanks for the response though I'm a little slow to see it, this thread is so active (very nice). That's very inspiring for me. I've just completed week 4 and I am realizing I can do it, but I still have doubts about 30 minutes without walking some. That last 5 minute on the last week four day seemed harder than the first one on the first week four day. But I am determined and I will get there!

Somehow, I'm the only one still awake today... weird side effect of my race?

Big thank you to everyone for all the support and congratulations today. The race didn't go as well as I hoped, and that was my fault, but I feel pretty good about it all the same. Looking forward to taking a couple days off and then getting back into it.

    Congratulations! Awesome run!

Stay focused on the program, and keep a positive attitude and you will continue to improve. You are just starting out on this journey, and that probably means you have quite a bit of your big gains ahead of you still. Who knows, maybe a 10k is in your future? For now little by little, as you can and see where it takes you. :)
