It's been 24 hours since my race, I'm sore, but that's it, and the insane part of my brain is taunting me.

Hate to say this, but beware the DOMS.

Oh, they are hitting.... Right now I HATE stairs, curbs, the little edging between the tile in the kitchen and the carpet in the living room....

Yup, that's the day after the marathon for sure. Now you find out how well you recover. @Stoshew71 took a week off, if I recall correctly. I took 2 days off then went for a 2 mile recovery run last time; 3 days off might have been better, but I got perfect weather and couldn't resist.

Just pay attention to how you feel and don't come back too fast. How much, how soon is "too fast" varies from one runner to another and may change with more marathon experience.

This. I started running I think 3 or 4 days after my first. I had a lot more strength after my second and only took 1 day off and seemed okay. Listen to your body and take it slow.

when has a runner ever really listened to a doctor, or common sense?

I think we all knew this would happen.

Today was a total rest day, other than the 60 mile drive home. Tomorrow is another rest day, but with a 60 minute deep tissue massage. Tuesday will be the very first day I even consider trying a run. Wednesday is more likely before I attempt running

Unfortunately the crazy isn't directly related to this marathon.... It has to do with my race calendar, There's a trail race in 4 weeks I'm considering. It's on;y like $50, and it runs on part of the course I'll be running my fall ultra on. I have a friend (he's trying to talk me into it, who's an experienced trail/ultra runner, who says he thinks I could do it. He's running it too and is planning a 15min/mile pace, so fastish for trail.... I'm very tempted.... I told myself no decisions until at least 48 hours post marathon, though more likely 72.....

I predict you decide to run it.

What ultra are you doing in the fall?

Probably will.... but it is a 26.2....LOL.... I'm certifiably insane... a 15min/mile pace would potentially make it manageable.

Ultra is the Wild Duluth 50k, so "only" running 31 miles.

@MNLittleFinn - Just about the perfect amount of time for a reverse taper, although that would put you straight into the next taper. You might find it more enjoyable to not do a taper and just run it as your first big long run for ultra training.

Congrats on the AG win @MobyCarp! Your pace is seriously baffling to me! I have found myself looking at my pace on a sprint of only 400m and realize you would have passed right by me while you were running double digit miles.

Are you a not a bit warm for a run?

@midwesterner85 I looked at the Weather Network and it looks close to a perfect day for a long run in the Mountains - Marathon in Banff, AB for @JessicaMcB, she may have even been chilly at the start with an overnight low of 6C = 43F plus wind-chill factor.

Very nice. I'm doing the Glacier Half Marathon next Sat... very different than my long run yesterday at around 90 degrees. That run starts at 6am and the current forecast shows low 40's F at that time.

If you notice in my profile photo, that was in the 50's at the start of the run. I try to start a run a bit on the cold side if possible because I know I will warm up quickly. But of course, my hands were just too cold in the morning... so that is why I'm wearing gloves and shorts. I got rid of the gloves after a few miles and was pretty hot by the end.

Thatsbwhat I was thinking. Reverse taper, train a little, then run it as a training run.... then my next LR will be way shorter....lol, but that's ok. Just have to ok it with my wife first.

@ddmom0811 - that picture has only about half of the Vs that were there. There were even 3 Wirehaired Vizslas (2 mostly full grown and a 5 mo puppy). I had never seen one before joining this group.

A question for everyone - have any of you tried Skratch Labs Exercise Hydration mix? The nutritionist recommended it and I am trying to figure out what flavors... I don't think I want anything too sweet.

@elise4270 - Just saw you asked about cycling. Sorry - haven't been able to check in here much. I love road cycling - but with a group. I wouldn't do it alone -- be too afraid. It is even a little scary in a big group sometimes - because you have to worry about the people in front of you as well as cars.
If you are going to stick on trails, I don't think the road bike would be the way to go. You may have purchased a bike by now!

@ohhim - you are back! I was worried that you hadn't been around for a while. I probably won't be able to find your first post, but glad you are back!

    Too cute!
I have used the Skratch Labs hydration mix. I use the lemon lime. I don't think it's too sweet.
I have always baked their cookies - and used them when I did the 100 mile bike ride. They wouldn't be good for running though. But the lemon lime I really like for both running or cycling.

@ddmom0811 I did buy a MTN bike. I like it so far. Today was rainy and 75. What a difference! I see some cyclists out alone, there's not much of a club here. DH is on the fence about joining me. Which is fine, because he's faster and has more endurance than I do and it just makes me feel like I can't make any headway compared to him.

*grumble* Check weather. "15% chance of thunder" I can accept those odds. Get changed, get hydration set, finish getting ready head outside. Big drop in temperature, dark clouds rolling in, lots of wind. Check weather "Server thunderstorm warning"

*sigh* Looks like I will be way over my calorie count again since I ate expecting to do 12-15 miles today. *grumble*

never had both feet off the ground??????
@MNLittleFinn So by that standard and a review of all my race photo's - I must be a Race Walker.

Woke up to Rain & Thunder that wasn't in the forecast so the Open Water Tri-Athlon Swim practise was cancelled, which meant the lazing around on the beach was also cancelled. Turned it into a complete slugfest rest morning. In the afternoon when the sun came back I got ambitious weeding the garden, flower beds, cleaning the garage and house.

LOL you sure? Definition of a run is that at some point in your stride, both feet are off the ground.... That's why @Stoshew71 says there are no joggers, there is no technical definition of it. For walking, if I remember correctly, there is ALWAYS one foot on the ground, as in one is making contact before the lifts off.
