What's with the pig snout on the laptop?
In agile development, I'm a pig and not a chicken. Ergo, I have a piggy on my computer. I also have this little guy to keep me company; he doesn't have a name, but I should probably give him one.

Clear as mud  Name him Sir Bacon of Hambone. Or maybe Bob.... Hmmm or give him a traditional Jewish name like Haim. I like Haim, sounds like ham.

ETA Maybe Saint Haim hahaha! He should definitely be a saint, I'm sure he'll be martyred. And it also fits with the pig/chicken thing

@shanaber My Garmin Fenix 3 HR has call and message notifications. But it is a pricier and higher end model than the Forerunner series.
Not sure about others in the FR series, but the 235 has call and message notifications also. I love the look of the Fenix watch, but the weight is what puts me off from getting one. The FR 935 on the other hand has everything that the Fenix 5 has, but weighs a lot less...you just have to be ok with a plastic watch.

It might be plastic, but I haven't managed to break mine yet..... LOVE the 935.

Yeah, I think they look great. Add a protective glass screen and they can take quite a beating too without looking like it. I'm thinking after my October marathon, I'll treat myself to the 935...it'll be close to my birthday, and feature-wise it's absolutely outstanding.

Totally worth it. I put a screen protector on mine just to be safe, since all bets are off when trail running.

I love my dad :D (he's an avid cyclist, so just another version of our kind of crazy, lol). If anyone is looking to create their own ultra, here ya go!
    evypzosfhbtu.jpg

    Also, survey time!

Favorite season to run: Fall! It's my fave season in general
Time of day to run: noonish/early evening. I am NOT a morning person
Favorite distance: so far HM (my first full is in Nov, so I don't know yet if I'll like it!)
Where to run: Suburban roads (how was this not a choice??), paved path, dirt trail, track (for speed training)
What to carry: Phone, GPS watch, keys, water on longer/humid & hot runs, visor if sunny, hat if rainy, RoadID, shotbloks/sport beans on longer runs
Who to run with: Self, club once a week during the summer
    Motivation to start: Weight concerns
Motivation to keep running: Basically all of the reasons they listed
    Describe self: Fitness/frequent runner
Holidays: If it's not a rest day and I don't have family plans, I'll run on most holidays
Reasons to skip an outdoor run: Basically I need to be quite sick or injured. Or, if there's just tooooo much snow

@RespectTheKitty WTG on your 10 miler. Just so cool. I am thinking and rethinking about my scheduled 9miler this Sunday/Monday (depending on weather) And so I will remember how you just winged it and came out strong, aside from a bit thirsty ;)

Speaking of thirst-- Bought a new hydration belt last night. Hope this one holds up. The bottles in my Nathan belt went kaput! One lid came off during a run and a car or truck smashed it to pieces and the other one's lid wont stay on. So I bought a cheaper belt. Makes sense? Not really, but if the same thing happens, they replace the bottles for free. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AB6YJT0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    5 miles today. Good run

5 miles on the treadmill this morning - why does it feel so much harder on the treadmill?! Weirdly, I used to do most of my running on the treadmill and felt it was easier than road running. Now, I feel like it's the opposite. I used to run much faster on the treadmill too. Of course, I wasn't running long distances back then.

@KatieJane83 that's where the 135 mile Badwater ultramarathon is every year, it's a point to point ending the Whitney portal, 8300 feet elevation.

Good run in this morning at o dark thirty. I found a friend in the neighborhood that is about my speed, so we went out together. I felt pretty good that she couldn't keep up and I wasn't even very winded!!! Whoop! You all are great motivation!

@cameronheel I love this group too!
@shanaber You are Killing it! I don't go to the gym anymore but I loved all the young ones that have full makeup on and never a sweat bead. Oh well.
@scarlet67 keep it up. A mile is better than nothing!
@katiejane83 that is INTENSE!!! 20,000ft. Wow. I am not even close to that level but as a fitness goal, it would be cool.

What do you think about the 735XT?

I have the 735XT. I usually love it, but sometimes it has an annoying habit of disconnecting from my phone, and then I have to reset everything. Other than that, it does what I want it to do and leaves a wicked tan line on my wrist.

@BettyM1017 Thank you so much for the heads up! My friend is going to get the watch for me! I'm excited. I may upgrade down the road to the 735 or 935 but I think for now the Vivoactive HR is what I want.

    July goal: 55 miles

    7/2: 4.3 miles
    7/3: 3.7 miles
    7/4: 3.8 miles
    7/5: 2.3 miles
    7/9: 4.5 miles
    7/11: 2.5 miles
    7/12: 2.8 miles
    7/13: 3.1 miles
    7/16: 4.2 miles
    7/17: 3.1 miles
    7/18: 2.5 miles
    7/20: 3.2 miles
    7/23: 5.1 miles
    7/25: 3.1 miles
    7/26: 2.5 miles
    7/27: 2 miles

    52.7/55 miles

Once again I was too tired last night to post so I am doing it this morning. It was still too hot when I ran last night, and I have been really tired this week. I felt slow and sluggish but I guess I got it done. But overall it was a discouraging run. I guess they can't all be good. I am taking a rest day today. I did a little yoga this am but I'm not doing anything after work. Tomorrow is the Step Out against Diabetes 5K. I'm hoping that I can run it a little faster than I have been running this week. I am really wanting to have a sub 30 5K. I guess if I can't do it tomorrow I will be able to do it sometime in the fall. I think that the heat is really taking a toll on me. The race will be in the morning so I should be well rested and it should only be about 84F (although it will probably feel like the 90s already). But it should be better than 95 feels like 99 or 100 which is what it has been for me the last couple of days.

@RespectTheKitty Awesome job on the 10 miler.

@KatieJane83 Thanks for the tip on posting pictures from an Android phone. It seems so obvious now, but I often forget that I have an internet browser on my phone.

Didn’t run this morning, Skip and I are in a 10K tonight, if the weather cooperates. I went to a trampoline park last night with some of the Cross Country team, one other Mom and I decided to jump. TOO MUCH FUN! I even did a flip into the foam pit, hello cool Mom points scored there. Of course it took me 10 minutes to get out of the pit I was laughing so hard.

@juliet3455 they broke down and we can use our cameras now just not in the building and they block the weirdest things, I can watch porn but I can’t get to gmail.
@_nikkiwolf_ that is so funny, I never would have thought they were the same size
@pastorvincent I like the looks of the Apple watch, do you have problems hitting the touch screen? Because I’m 1,000 kinds of weird half the time touch screens not realize I’m touching them.
@girlinahat I agree with what you are saying about the curve like to the TomTom making it a better fitting and smaller looking design.
@respectthekitty great run, yeah for a new place you haven’t seen before. Great work. Speaking of work, OMG that sounds awful.
@garygse cute piggy – I need to get a plastic guard for my watch face, I’m brutal on screens
@shanaber the company pays for my phone so I have a blackberry, until I have to pay then I’ll get something else. We can use our own iPhones or whatever to link to our company email, but I’m like then I’ll get the bill right? No thanks. Skip has an iPhone

Regarding the survey – pretty much answers you would expect, especially Thanksgiving, hello everyone runs a Turkey Trot right? BTW my favorite race distance is 8K but that wasn’t a choice.

    survey questions:

Favorite season to run: Winter. The best time to run in Central Texas :)

Time of day to run: Before the sun comes up in summer (in Texas summer lasts through Spring, Summer, and Fall) and in the late morning in winter.

Favorite distance: Half Marathon. I am not brave enough to try anything over 14 miles.....yet

Where to run: Suburban green belts and paved park trails. I am not coordinated enough for trail running. I don't want to break myself.

What to carry: Phone, Water/hydration belt, earbuds, keys

Who to run with: Self or running group

    Motivation to start: Weight loss

Motivation to keep running: Because it makes me feel bad *kitten*. ;)

    Describe self: frequent runner

Holidays: I run in the morning on holidays so I can eat all the yummy holiday things later. Except for Christmas. I usually travel out of town for Christmas to visit relatives in upstate NY. There is no way this Southern Belle is making it through all that freezing stuff.

Reasons to skip an outdoor run: sick, injured, hail, lightning, or tornado warning

I wear sunscreen so I don't get (much of) a tan line. The dermatologist already scolds me every time I see him, for all the freckles. He even gave me a catalog of UV protective 'sports' gear that I should be wearing when I run. I can't even imagine wearing a long sleeved shirt every time I run especially in the heat!

@skippygirlsmom - I won't use my personal phone for work either. It means I have to carry 2 phones but I did not want them to have access to all of my PI, emails and pictures that is on my phone. I do forward work calls to my personal phone and have the company chat apps on it so when I am running I am still 'available'

@shanaber I realized 99.31% of us are some sort of educated nerd. I just wish I was a classy computer nerd. (Just a lowly chemist nerd).

I did do a bit of programming yesterday. Sort of maybe.... Wrote some code to pull charts from software. Maybe I should take some nerdy classes.

Hey, it might help me "run" better!

    Survey Questions:

(I don't actually race so all these are just based off of general running)

Favorite season to run: Summer - I actually love the brutality of the heat, I plan mid day runs in the summer
Time of day to run: Early morning (except for my mid day summer runs, I really dislike running in the evenings)
Favorite distance: HM range although I'm still working my way up to longer ones
Where to run: Mountain trails, urban road/sidewalk (I try to stay off the roads), paved paths
What to carry: Phone, watch, water (hydration pack or bottle depending on distance), sunglasses, hat - oddly enough I never have ID on me and I've never thought about that, maybe I should start carrying some
    Who to run with: Self
Motivation to start: To eat all the nomz
Motivation to keep running: See above
Describe self: Recreational runner - I usually go with a lifter with a running problem
What holidays do you run on: Any and all
Why would you skip an outdoor run: Sick or injured, I live in AZ it doesn't get cold/icy here and I like the heat.

That said it is the original - not the 2.

Oh, that explains a lot. The Series 2 has a much bigger battery and other improvements. I never used the earlier models so can not comment on them. For me, the watch was not interesting until the Series 2.

Durring a normal day? It works fine, but I do find that if I am running hard touch screens, in general, can be tough to use. I do not know if that is because of the sweat or what, they just fail me. In fact, with my phone, I often have to use Siri to contorl it during a run sometimes. I do find if I dry off the screen and my hands they work better. That being said the Watch seems much more tolerant than the phone.

@juliet3455 Ha, I wish. I only have three pairs of running shoes. My house (and closets) are small. My watch collection took me 14 years to grow to three. I've gotten a new one every seven years, whether I need it or not.

    July 28: 3.07 recovery run/walk

@pastorvincent sometimes I have to rub my finger on my leg to warm it up so the screen detects me. I was finger printed once and they used a scanner, took like 5 tries to finally see my prints. Figured that might be good if I decide on a life of crime.

Best Buy, and Dicks Sporting Goods, and Apple Stores all have demo units out to play with. Might want to just try one to be sure first.
