Dana, the dress probably feels better than jeans to all those chigger bites. Sorry the MRI result wasn't good but it sounds like you have a good doctor with your best interests in heart and not his bank account.

I am going to go ahead and say this. I have always been told to not make any big decision after a divorce or death. I
Allie, since you have a friend that says you can stay with her, I think that is the best way to go. You have no idea how good Toms lawyer is going to be or what your settlement is. My Mom always said don't count your chickens before they hatch. Ok, bring it on.

Dana - what a pretty skirt and top. I am sorry the MRI didn't turn out as you'd hoped, and I am especially sorry your daughter was mean to you. You have made great improvements and are still on your journey to better health. Don't let her frustration get you down on yourself.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts about my husband's aunt. Thankfully the boys in the other car are improving. They will still have many months of recovery ahead of them, but they have their lives. I hope insurance will be able to help them. My husband's aunt didn't have any assets for them to draw upon, thus the fact that she was still working.

DANA ~ Your new outfit and you look great! Sorry about the news you received from the MRI. As for daughter not giving you any sympathy, she is young and has no idea what can happen to a body as it ages.

ROSIE ~ Where do you live in GA? Welcome!

Morning folks! Raining here, but we need it. Having coffee with a neighbor, then a few chores. Heading to phila tomorrow to help sister with mattress shopping as promised earlier in the summer.

Carol yikes, drop box, I know it helps with big file storage?? But that is one of those things I have to have my students help with!!

Beth belated birthday wishes, hope the day didn't include too much cleanup, bet the food scale will be an eye opener. How's DOS' CPAP fix??

Re enjoy your Jammie day, Wednesday was like that for me, and I'm all the better for taking a day off from the to do list.

Well happy Friday to all. NYKAREN

Allie - Thinking of you today! Bon Courage ma brave! <3

Dana - One of the fittest people I know had to have their spine fused in their 40s. She was a dance therapy teacher, slim and beautiful. :'( She was ok afterwards. Your daughter probably has a touch of hubris, which we are all prone to when things are going well with us. Health nuts seem especially prone. However, I'm sure you know all too well that getting your weight back on that downward path can only be good. :D<3 Have you seen a physio?
Wishing you all the best for the op. <3

Going to make Guinea Fowl with Lentils in the IP today. :D

Lanette - I have a secret weapon in my exercising called DH. If I didn't have him I might have to find a personal trainer/coach. Have you read any hooks about how to develop healthy habits? Once a thing is an ingrained habit it is much easier to keep. There are lots out there. I like LEVEL UP YOUR DAY about prioritising . Need to read it again, re my memoir, which I actually did today. I tackled a difficult bit head on. :D

DanaReel180 - sounds like your daughter is in denial. She doesn't want to face the fact that you are getting older, so she figures if she ignores it, it'll go away! People can't see pain, and it's really almost impossible to describe it! I didn't understand what Mama was talking about when she would say, "My hip hurts or my back hurts," but now that my hip and back hurts, I understand perfectly! Beautiful pictures; I love the outfit!

Pip - I'm sorry about your fall, but I'm glad your injuries are not worse!

Beth - It's hard to think that any animal as adorable as deer and rabbits could be so destructive to property, but they are. I have heard countless people who live in the country complain about their flower or vegetable garden being destroyed by deer. One lady said she spent an entire day planting flowers in her flowerbed only to get up the next morning and find that the deer had spent the entire night eating it! :o Not funny!

BETH ~ Happy Belated Birthday! On the news this AM, they showed a video of a deer attacking a small dog. The owner scared the deer away and the dog had to have stitches.

    Happy Friday ladies!

Had a big post ready to go last night, the laptop started acting weird so did a backup in case it’s getting ready to crap out. It’s 6 or 7 years old. Doing OK today. Lost the post tho.

    Dana
    – love your outfit and sorry you’ll be facing back surgery again. It’s great you have been losing weight and managing to get steps in, eat better, etc. and taking better care of yourself. Did you go to physical therapy after your first surgery? I too wonder if a good one might not help you right now.

Becca – glad you were able to sort some things out with Prudence. Emergencies are one thing but starting to depend on you and DH for dog-walking, transportation, etc on a regular basis is pushing it and encroaching on a friendship.

There’s an elderly lady in the neighborhood I befriended when we first moved here…. she started asking me to do small favors like feed her chickens and gather eggs when she was out of town and I didn’t mind at the time, then I got super busy with my own life-garden, husband, work and wouldn't stop in often. She’d call and a lay a bit of guilt trip on me. I really cooled the friendship and even changed my walking route, sadly, because if she was looking out the window when I walked by she’d come out on the porch and holler, “hey, why don’t you stop in?” Then there would be a five minute conversation about how I could surely spare five minutes, etc.

A couple years ago when I was still working, she called just to chat one evening and said she’d nearly called me the night before to take her to the hospital because she thought she was having a stroke. I told her bluntly that if she’s having health issues, call 911 immediately and don’t rely on the neighbors! Told her I’d stop by some day but still haven’t. She’s now 85 and still drives and has had several TIA’s. I’m hearing from other neighbors that nearly everyone is cutting her a wide berth. This is a shame because I found her otherwise personable and interesting. She really needs to go live near one of her kids! She has one in the Seattle area and one in Portland.

Pip – Ouch! Did you ice anything or at least have some ice in an adult beverage?

    Machka
    – great three generation photo. I think you have the ages wrong. Mom = 60, Grandma = 80, you = 40.

Felicia – wow, how super sad about the aunt’s traffic accident.

For those of you with deer problems…I use a lot of Liquid Fence” which smells like rotten eggs and garlic, both Walmart and Home Depot sell it. When I plant anything I don’t want the deer or rabbits to eat, I spray that stinky stuff on it – it generally does a real good job, they say do it right after you plant it tho so they don’t get a taste of the flowers or veggies to begin with. I also use row cover – here’s a photo of the row cover “curtain” I put around my green beans. I put seed trays around it since we have such windy afternoons and evenings – otherwise it would flap and beat those beans.

Happy Friday, lost my original post :s

Raining to beat the band today. Already been out for coffee with an old neighbor for a gossipy catch-up :)

Beth belated b-day wishes, hope the food scale is useful. Is the problem with DOS' cpap resolved and all healed up?

Re enjoy the Jammie day, it does wonders for me, the next day I am all about tackling the to dos when I avoid them for a day.

Thanks for the encouragement all. I appreciate it. I have mixed feelings about another surgery.
    1. I'm afraid of going under and recovery. The last one was so hard. The hospital recovery room and private rooms were full and I had to stay in recovery until a room opened up. That took hours. I went into surgery st 8:00 am, came to at 3:30 pm in recovery, and moved to a room at 10:30 pm. It was a long time without moving and the gurney was so uncomfortable.
    2. I want to get this over and back to living!! I wanted to buy my own kayak. I want to garden and get my hands dirty!
    Go hiking with DH!

As far as DD#3, Jessica, even as hurtful as she was, I'll just let it go. I'll let her call or text me. I won't mention my health to her. Her final comment was "Whatever!"

DH is out mowing this morning. It's so humid out there! It is 85% humidity. 81* but feels like 87*! The windows are fogged over on the outside. Oh boy, it's going to be hot today!

We are going to get two more Azalea plants today and mulch to put along the walk. Just replacing the mulch that has broken down. It's like dirt on top of the weed cloth now.

Barbie That is encouraging about the 78 year old lady at your dance class. Amazing! 6 spine surgeries!

Allie Your car taxes are pretty high. Our registration or tax is a standard $53 a year. Arkansas is a much cheaper place to live. There are a lot of people who retire here for that reason besides the natural beauty of the state.

Heather Did you mean psychologist? Not sure what you meant.
Yes, Jessica is a health nut and yogi. She goes overboard with her DH sometimes because he drinks (binges) and threatens divorce every time then they get back to normal. But it's ok if she drinks with her girlfriends. That's getting off topic...,

Beth. Pesky deer! Not so much deer with the dog but the squirrels can eat up flowers like crazy!! I love the shepherd hooks I hang potted plants on. The squirrels can't climb on them. At least they haven't figured it out yet!! LOL!

I'm going to make some breakfast and more coffee. I'm watching Netflix and going to finish up the episode I was watching last night of Breaking Bad. I love that series. I already seen it twice but I'm starting it over! What a drama!! The photography is cool; all filmed in Albuquerque.
    I like Doc Martin too!

Sue: Thanks for your good wishes about the cars. We get DH's back today for sure, & mine may be today or take another day or two. They had to order another part & it wasn't in yesterday. :star: I am curious about kinder goats. It isn't a type I remember hearing about. The photo helps. Are they full grown or babies? They seem really little & very cute.

Dana: I type my comments into a word document and then copy and paste it into the thread because I got frustrated with losing long posts. I'm sorry you had problems today. :ohwell:

Becca: Enjoy your Astoria Rocks werewolf rock. I think it is charming.

Joyce: I am so sorry to hear about the fire in the horse barn that killed 18 horses. Fireworks and dry hay are not a good mix.

Dr. Katie: I am so sorry about your cousin's stroke. It is good that you're there for her at this horrible time. I hope your family will be able to draw together and support one another. :broken_heart:

Barbie: Knitting is a great idea for passing the time at a baseball game. I enjoyed going to Little League baseball when I was a kid, but never really watched. My God-sister's big brother was on a team, and we two girls played on the sidelines while our moms watched.

Becca: You are wise to put a little distance between yourself and Annabelle's situation. I hope her family will step up. :flowerforyou:

Dana: I hope you're able to avoid surgery, but it can be a real blessing. DH has had back surgery three times so far and each provided enormous pain relief. He's had two surgeries on his neck and one on his lower back. The surgeon said he would likely be back for more. So far, so good. He has never had anything fused. The surgeons cleaned out arthritic deposits. (((HUGS)))

I'm out of time, but haven't finished reading posts yet. Have a great day.

DH did change his mind yesterday and went to the stable with me, but it was too hot to do much by the time we got out there. I should have gone in the morning instead. I lunged Arrow for a few minutes & put him back in his paddock. We're getting DH's car back today & mine either today or tomorrow. I look forward to it. They are waiting for a par that they've ordered in for mine. they found additional damages as they were working on things. I'm glad they found the additional damage & will have everything put right. His will not be too costly, thank goodness. I'm sure glad that I insisted on a courtesy car while mine is in the shop. We'd be stranded without it. :star: Did I ever mention what a good thing AAA coverage is? Worth every penny.

Heather I had 6 weeks of PT after my surgery. It was great and I got better fast. I did speak about PT again to my DR but he said I could if I wanted to but in the big picture I would have to have surgery.

Machka – I have a friend who is in New Zealand; and, when I was fussing about nearly 100° temperature; he told me that is was -3° there. I forget that ‘Down Under’ (Equator) it is winter there. Not only seasonal change but also when it is daytime here, it is night-time there. But, it is a beautiful country. One of my HS classmates went to Australia on their next to last trip. They are always going somewhere. Her sister and brother keep telling her to ‘not let her honey’ slip away. Three years together and while she wears an engagement and wedding ring set; hasn’t married him. She just had gotten out of a really bad marriage to an ‘alcoholic’.
You are truly blessed to have both your Mother and Grand still living. All

Allie – You can probably call your attorney to find out ‘if’ she has been served; because she would have to sign an “Acknowledgement of Service.” Was it put on the Order to ‘serve her at work’? If not, maybe the Sheriff has not found her at ‘home’.

Maybe TomCat’s snippiness is from realizing he is about to lose his ‘maid & cook’. LOL!

We have tags and registration that we have to buy by the last day of the month in which we were born; I have a Breast Cancer awareness tag on my car, so it only costs me about $60 a year for mine; the other vehicles in the house are based on what they are worth; so we don’t pay much for them … maybe $200 total for 3 vehicles. About every 5 years, they change the design. And you have about 15 specialty tags you can buy as well. After that you get a small sticker to place on the tag.

I agree with Joyce about NOT making big decisions immediately after a life-changing event (marriage, divorce, death). I would suggest staying with your friend, for a while, too. If for no other reason, than to give yourself time to adjust to your ‘new’ life-style and get your money affairs in order. You might end up having to ‘fight’ TomCat about any kind of ‘payments’ he is ordered to make. Alimony for a man to pay is probably worse than having to pay child support and there are a lot of ‘deadbeats’ when it comes to ‘fathers paying child support’ and they then ‘attempt to make an issue out of visitation (which is a totally separate issue altogether). Just make sure you don’t get the ‘sticky end’ of the stick. If all else fails, demand that all assets be liquidated and sold with you getting a % of all. You also might consider leaving the state since many big companies are leaving due to taxes. Taxes can ‘kill you’ if you are not prepared to pay them, Alimony is considered ‘income’ so if you take the money as ‘alimony’ and not as a ‘settlement’; add on above what you want in your pocket the amount of taxes you will have to pay otherwise. Ask your attorney about the ‘settlement wording’. You might have to take it as a ‘lump sum’. Even if that is the case … ‘invest it’ in something where you earn a good dividend on it (and can either have the interest sent to you on a monthly or quarterly basis) or if you don’t need it to pay bills, let the interest roll over and be used to buy more of what you invest in.

When ‘big’ companies leave to do business elsewhere, it affects the economy of everything, right on down to small businesses. You might find that ‘now’ is the time to ‘jump ship’ and if you have a retirement plan where you work, you can either ‘cash it in’ or ‘have it rolled over into your own personal 401K type of investment). Again, your attorney should be the one to give you ‘legal and financial’ advice (or direct you to someone who can).
If it is determined that everything will be liquidated; then closing costs (taken off the top, should be in the same % as what you get). Either 50/50% or some other arrangement; but, whatever let it be done at closing. Thereby, never seeing the money and not missing it when you do.

Becca – I think I would have ‘guessed’ it was a seal or sea lion; but, now I see the furry tail. I saw on a YouTube skit, that a lot of people put their rocks on a pan, in the oven; and, take them out and use crayons to melt in the colors. It looked pretty neat. You’d just have to have something you could move them around with, such as a spoon. It’d probably be easier to use paint and a brush. My sister’s former sister-in-law painted a cat on a large rock that she could use as a doorstopper; but, it is in the corner of her kitchen going into the living room.

Dana – Thanks for the suggestions about Austin. I think we are planning on first going to NOLA; spend the night outside of NOLA off I-10; get up early the next AM and go to Houston. Check in and spend the rest of the day and evening checking Houston out. Then will get up and go to San Antonio and spend 2 nights there. I want to stay on the River walk (where I stayed for my training as a Federal government employee with the judicial system). So much to see. Then planning on getting up and heading towards Austin, Waco, and Dallas. Whether we spend the night in Austin will just be ‘up in the air’ at this point; but, definitely want to go to Waco to visit the Magnolia Silos and get cupcakes and ice cream. I am thinking of spending the night in Austin and making the Waco trip a ‘day trip’ (but we haven’t really talked about all the plans). Probably will find a hotel in Austin and in Dallas that won’t ‘break the bank’ since we already know that any hotel in San Antonio along the River walk will be more expensive. I think I was put up at the Hyatt Regency when I went for my training … but, that was 25± years ago; and, I am sure things have changed a lot since. Need to check out the “Market” there. I know several of us went there; but, I don’t remember much about it. I know we had a great week! I’m going to highlight your post and print it (if I can).

Thanks for all the suggestions. We just need to sit down and decide when we want to leave Dawson and when we want to end up @ Will & Tami’s. We always go there for a week, during the time his birthday falls. This time, I would really ‘like’ to stay ‘through’ Labor Day and not travel on that Saturday or Sunday before and definitely not on Labor Day. But, we do not want to mess up any plans they might have for Labor Day. I think they usually go to the lake where Todd and Vicki live and spend the day on a Flotilla.

We have Radium Springs (although it is now closed) that they called the “Blue Springs”. Series of springs (in the Aquifers that furnish the City and surrounding area with water. Water was consistently about 68° and you could see forever! There are a lot of ‘springs’ around this part of Georgia; but, most are on ‘private land’. The Casino at Radium Springs has been closed for decades; and had changed hands several times over the years. It has since burned down and like I said, ‘it is closed to the public’.
Doesn’t having a ‘new’ outfit just ‘make your day’?

Carol – Are you talking about “DropBox” such as getting and returning movies? If so, check out NetFlix. We are on a program where we get 2 DVDs at a time; we can get them and keep them as long as we want to; and, when we return them, they send us 2 more (or you can actually get to the point you are staggering them) so we always have at home to watch. We pay a monthly charge, whether we get only 2 DVDs or we get 14. Comes in the mail and you return it in the envelop they send it to you in, postage paid by them. Since ALL the ‘home movie rental businesses have gone out of business’ this is about the only way we could get DVDs to pay. Much cheaper than the ‘movies’ on your TV; which are charged about $5 for paying them, no matter what. If you fall asleep during one, you’ve wasted your $5 and will get charged another $5 when you DO watch it. I think it is called “Pay per View”. Huge waste of money. We can get ‘new’ movies, old ones, TV series, and you have a list of the ones you have put on a list to be sent to you. They comes as the list (or the next available), You can move them around on your list once you have set it up.
But Drop Box might be something totally different. I know my DOS used “Red Box” for getting movies … but, I never understood about how they paid for them or how they collected if you kept them over a certain number of days.

Dana again – I would call that ‘Mother’s Curse’. Mimi told my Mother at some point, she hoped she had a child ‘just like her’. And, she did … I ran away a lot; but, to me, I was just taking an 'adventure’. Never thought that my parents would be sick worrying about me. I’ve been that way all my life. I gave my parents a lot of scares growing up; and, at least twice from the day I was born until I was 18 months old, the MDs told them to ‘go home, make funeral arrangements, and start notifying family as I probably would not make it through the night. I’ve had several ‘near death’ experiences in my 66 years; but, I ‘know’ I have some purpose here on earth; I’m just not totally sure I know what it is, or if I will know when I get there. My parents kept me (and my sisters) totally involved so that we would not ‘get into trouble because we would not have time to do so’. But, that never kept me (or my oldest sister) from pushing the lines. Middle sister just did not do anything to get into trouble … she was more concerned about her grades. Oldest sister made good grades; mine were good, except in one subject that required a lot of memorization. As I have gotten older, and learned to ‘read for pleasure’, things came to me a lot easier. I think all 3 of us were more afraid of ‘embarrassing’ our parents’, therefore there were just some things we did not do. My Mother used to play ‘bridge’ every Wednesday afternoon, with 3 ladies consistently and another 1 or 2 who could fill in. They swapped around houses. I’d step up on the back of the chair rungs and ask, “Who is the DUMB one?” My mother would explain that it was just a part of the game and had nothing to do with being smart or not. I never learned how to play Bridge; but, I will play 8-1-8 with sisters and their spouses/SO, only with a lot of help. Louis will play; but, he is NOT a card player. But, now I have them ‘hooked’ on dominoes; but, the men won’t play.

rparkerslim – Deer and rabbits are extremely destructive to gardens (flower and vegetable). Down here we have Armadillos, which can disrupt a lot overnight. Hate them. Ugly little critter and pretty difficult to kill. Armor like shield on its body and only a small target to hit to kill them; like gators when you definitely want to hit the ‘sweet spot’. About the only other critters we want to get rid of as soon as possible is a herd of pigs (wild or feral pigs); they can tear up a huge area in a matter of a few hours (or days). We kept getting one or two on camera; so Louis and Trey built a pig pen, caught a couple; but, then they left the area and I don’t think they’ve been back.

Of course, we (including sons’ families) eat venison and it makes great spaghetti sauce and chili and it is almost totally without fat (if it is properly dressed out). Getting it up and hanging so the blood drains out quickly is the best. Not gamey the way my sons cook it. Ground up, fat is added back to it so it isn’t dry. My DOS can make ‘wonderful’ hamburgers and you would not be able to tell the difference between them and a good quality cut of beef. Of course, a doe is a better one to kill if you are going to ‘eat’ it; but, even when they have killed a buck, had it mounted, the Taxidermists in this area donates the meat to soup kitchens and that sort of place. So nothing is wasted.

LENORA ~ The DropBox I'm talking about is a program that saves documents/photos. I think it is a part of The Cloud. Anyway, I uploaded my documents/photos and it says I've used up all my space. Cost around $8 a month for more basic storage and I'm not willing to get that yet.

Carol When I was working I used Dropbox to transfer files that were large and/or confidential. No chance of accidently emailing them to the wrong party. You just drop the file in and the other party goes to the Dropbox and retrieves it. It's set up that only that person can view, or copy. I worked with highly confidential materials with audit and the commission at for the state.

Netflix is a monthly charge of $9.99+tax
You can see thousands of movies plus all the Netflix originals.
I'm into House of Cards, starring Kevin Stacy. He plays the president of the US. OMG! What a show!!
Then there is Lillyhammer, Portlandia, Orange is the New Black.
Netflix is all streaming on your TV thru the internet. I have a Smart TV but you can play it thru other devices.
I also have VUDO which is streaming but you either rent or buy from the cloud. If you buy it stays on the cloud and you can watch it any time. I've bought a few, but I like Netflix better. Plus I can watch it on my phone or iPad too. Pretty cool.

I hope I helped you by explaining some stuff...

Carol - I pay now :'( for Dropbox because I eventually ran out of space. It's good to know I can put anything in there anytime, including my memoir, but, I agree, it is expensive. I pay yearly. I can load really easily from my phone, tablet etc. I don't want to lose photos of the grandchildren. I also save everything on memory sticks, but they can get destroyed or lost. I make sure I take the sticks with me when we go away in case there is a house fire. I wish I could do the same for the family archive photos I have in the spare room wardrobe! :o:|

Guinea fowl and Lentils was a success. :D I'm completely stuffed! I left it on Keep Warm for two and a half hours to see how it fared and I delayed the cooking on the timer for one hour. All good.

Might try making Paneer tomorrow. (Indian pressed curds) I have a nice recipe with spinach and tomato.

LENORA ~ The DropBox I'm talking about is a program that saves documents/photos. I think it is a part of The Cloud. Anyway, I uploaded my documents/photos and it says I've used up all my space. Cost around $8 a month for more basic storage and I'm not willing to get that yet.

Dropbox is part of the cloud. I use a variation of it to submit assignments at university. It's free for that.

For storage, I use Google Drive.
