I am looking into buying a mattress that will be more suitable for a side sleeper. My DH ends up sleeping in the recliner more than in the bed because he has shoulder pain when he lays down. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

After travelling the world for 8 months, and sleeping on numerous different kinds of mattresses and beds and things ... when my husband and I returned to Victoria, Australia, we returned to the bed/mattress we had before our travels, and realised again that it was just simply not working for us.

6 months later, we put everything back into storage, and moved to Tasmania, Australia. During our first few months here, we were on an air mattress which wasn't working either, and decided to buy something that would work for us.

We decided to go with a European-style bed. A king-sized bed ... but also two twin beds at the same time. This was something we came across quite frequently in Europe. There are two identical twin-sized bases, which can be attached, or not ... we've got them attached. On top are two twin-sized mattresses. My husband likes a soft mattress, and I like a firm mattress, so the two mattresses are noticeably different when we lie on them, but they look the same. A king-sized sheet holds them together so that it looks like one bed. In Europe, sometimes they were made up as twin beds, but with an attached base, and sometimes they were made up as a king-sized bed.

This also makes moving them a breeze because, essentially, we're moving two twin beds so they fit in the back of our van.

This might be an option for you as well ... so that you each can get a mattress that works for you. Having a comfortable mattress is wonderful!!

Happy Birthday Chris. Hope you have a great day. Enjoy your vacation trips.
Not much planned today except doing some weeding before it gets too hot.

Michele – We have a quilt on our bed, store bought; but, looks like a handmade one. I just need to get some thread and sew the parts back on it that are pulling away so that it will be nicer when someone gets it, if they want it. DOGD and her boyfriend are going to take our old LR chairs and make the best of them. At least they are comfortable. Told her to take into consideration what it would cost to reupholster them later on versus what new ones would cost (if she was even able to find new ones that fit). She’s only 5’-nothing and I don’t think she’ll find something that isn’t too deep or high. She probably would not pay as much to have them recovered as she would new ones.

Carol – Sorry you are having problems with sister over the estate. It can always bring out the worst in ‘some’ people. But, stand your ground and don’t let her browbeat’ you into taking less that what you are entitled to.

Katla and Allie – Maybe a little of both. I don’t like TomCat, at all. I think he is a ‘cad’. I want Allie to be happy and to ‘know’, not ‘think’, that she is STRONG. I know she worries about money; but, that certainly should not make her ‘fear’ to ‘step out on her own’. She’s not a ‘piece of property’ that TomCat can do anything he wants and not worry about ‘how she is going to make it on her own’. TomCat has been ‘in charge’ of bill paying for so long that it seems that is what she fears most. Her worry over ‘alimony’ is something I don’t ‘think’ she should worry about. I’ve suggested that maybe she ‘ask’ her attorney to have it worded by something ‘other than alimony’ so it won’t be ‘considered’ income to her. My sister did that when she got a divorce after 35 years of marriage; and, she also collected on her husband SS when she retired. You can do that depending on how long you were married and also what prevailing laws happen to say about it. I’m sure her attorney will do everything possible to get her the best ‘settlement’ possible. It is going to be a little ‘give and take’ from both of them. The house in Connecticut that Tom wants to pay off and give to her – well, home ownership comes with a LOT of expense and up north a LOT of upkeep. That’s one reason I, personally, would go for the house in FL. Even ‘if’ she doesn’t move there, they have someone who rents it out part of the year; then she could possibly have a realtor who could rent it out by the week or month or longer. Possibly 'more' income until she is ready to move, if ever. I realize her children and grandchild are up there and can understand why she doesn't want to move. I guess I’d try because that seems to be the ‘one’ thing that TomCat wants to keep for himself; then turn around and put it on the market - IF TomCat wants it so bad, then he ought to buy her out - cha-ching.

Barbiecat – I’ve had my car (occasionally) sitting in the carport and not been able to drive it for several times during a ‘driving restriction’. We could do with one vehicle; but, that would mean a ‘new’ truck for Louis and no matter how you look at it, not sure that is a great idea. My car gets 'over' wonderful gas mileage. His truck is almost 20 years old, has 400K miles on it. New motor, new transmission and the inside is very ratty. I think he would have to either ‘pay someone to take it’ or ‘scrap it completely'. But, it runs … I just cannot ‘turn the key over’ to crank it. I won’t drive it again. If DBnL had not been at the grocery store last week when I was we’d have a lot of groceries just ‘go bad’ from the heat. I was near tears and also 'mad as a wet hen'. It was, at least, 100°, in the shade. But, Louis is still working – so I would be the one having to make ‘other’ arrangements if I had a MD or other appointment.

Heather – I would be more likely to ‘color’ my hair than to EVER cut it myself.

Allie – You go, girl! You ROCK! You have become so STRONG during the past few months. I guess it took finding out the 'real' truth to get you to the point of 'knowing this IS what you need to do in order to have a life of your own'. I know it is scary. There'll be bills you haven't been paying that you will start have to pay; but, they'll also be 'income' that TomCat will have to pay you in order for you to have enough to pay; but, after 20 years of marriage he should be responsible for it. Just make sure that your attorney puts in a 'hold harmless' clause in any settlement agreement that gets signed. That is for your protect (but also for TomCat's) ... it sets out that whatever bills you take on or what he keeps won't be affected by something (such as a 'bankruptcy') to cause you to have to take on something he doesn't pay that might be in 'both names'. There are certain things that get put into both people's names; but, the owners of any 'encumbered property' won't take names off. All you'd have to do is show them that TomCat is responsible for paying it off. Do whatever your attorney wants you to do. While it might not be the ‘most enjoyable thing to do’. It will keep TomCat ‘honest’. He’ll be ‘sworn to tell the truth’. You’d be there to tell your attorney if he is lying or fudging on the truth. But, it will be taken down and transcribed, so he cannot come back later and change it. She would remind him that he was ‘under oath’ and ask ‘are you telling the truth NOW’ or ‘were you telling the truth in the deposition’? You (meaning him or Kissy Poop) would be committing perjury.

Chris in MA – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I wish I could add ‘emojis’ but the security on my computer won’t allow me to do so. Other than the ones available on MFP, more can be used in a PM, than in the community.

I’m watching one of my decorating channels and it is “Flip Vegas”. Husband and wife. I would NOT put up with dealing with either. He is a ‘verbally abusive sounding @$$’! She has no idea how much her ‘good ideas’ cut into their profit. Actually, I like the young couple who redo homes, back to the way they were when they were new. Something about ‘Small Town something’ and a new one that I happen upon just occasionally called “Restored” with a really tall man with a cowboy hat.

Whoa, this woman on the Vegas Flip has now started crying because her idea of redoing a curving staircase railing isn’t done the way she expected it to be done. Whoops, yes,, she should have listened to her husband on this. She replaced it with new stiles, which I think she could have done by taking only one out every few feet, rather than destroy all of them, which made the rail not fit and split. He is so high-strung, I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t have a ‘stroke or heart attack’. Flipping a house looks like it would be ‘fun’; but, I don’t know how they pay for it all.

Yep, he did end up in the hospital!

One of my other shows that I watch on the regular DIY channels doesn’t come on until 1:00pm. I’ll read my FB posts, clean up a little, and read a little. Louis and Trey are working some today. Louis has so much work, that they are having to work on Saturdays. His brother got sick last week, didn’t go to the MD; and Louis told him that he needed to, ends up that he had food poisoning from sushi from the grocery store (which Louis has always referred to as ‘fish bait’.

    Good morning Ladies!

Today is my 61st birthday and the beginning of my week long vacation. I will begin by going to the Cape (Cape Cod) for the weekend, home for 3 days to do things at home, then 4 days in NJ for visit to Mom and beach time with BFF. I am hoping this year will bring better things to my life, Last year was another challenging one. Weight wise was great though, today I am about 15 lbs. lighter and finally at a healthy BMI for the first time in decades. I have been maintaining since the beginning of summer.

Keep those prayers coming, hopefully good news to report soon.

Time to hit the showers and begin the journey to the beach!

    Love and hugs to everyone!

    Chris in MA

Thanks for all the love ladies~
Yes all will work out, I will not be taken advantage of like I have been.I keep the condo in the back of my mind, it hasn't sold yet.. so like I said if it is meant to be, than it shall be...I have packed a few more things, a little at a time..
Chris~ Happy Happy Birthday my dear, and again enjoy the cape... I love it so.. but when I go there it only means most of the time I have to visit Ruth she will be 90 this August .. God Bless Her..but very needy..
I plan on going to visit Aunt Margaret today, I think Tom might go with, as he doesnt want to look bad to his Aunt..
You dont know how much junk you accumulate over the years, until you start packing up stuff.. YIKES...
I must admit, I so enjoy my Amazon Echo...it has great sound...and I have Pandora on shuffle so it plays all sorts of different music..the boys(Homer and Chester) seem to enjoy it too..
Tom just came in and asked what are your plans.he sees me packing.all he said is he doesn't want to come home from FLORIDA and the house is cleaned out.now really I'm not that type of person...geesh.

Happy birthday, Chris! Enjoy your time at the beach.

Margaret, I lwill be your attitude!

I've done my walk, had my shower, had coffee with a protein cookie for breakfast, and now it's time to spend the day writing. The IP will have to wait until Monday. Tonight is going to be simple, simple and tomorrow night Dave will cook steak and salad since I will spend the entire afternoon with family. He will come to the service to pay his respects, but he can't deal with hours and hours with people he doesn't really know that well.

    Enjoy your weekend, my friends.

Not having a good few days foodwise think it's stress about health stuff. Going to the gym and exercising but foodwise need one (or a lot) of kicks to the butt.

DH lost front door key last night, knocked me up to let him in, now worrying about security. He thinks he dropped it in a taxi so waiting to hear from the taxi company. If not we'll have to have new lock grrrr

Put shoulder of lamb in oven but when I took it out I detect an unpleasant smell and taste grrr have now put chicken thighs in. Not having a good weekend

Hugs to all who need them

Barbie: DH says he wants to buy a truck to tow a horse trailer. I don't own a horse or need to transport one. My friend who owns the stable doesn't even have a horse trailer. Men can be baffling. I haven't actually run the numbers but my guess is that we can drive our current fuel-efficient car and stay in hotels for less overall cost than buying an RV or a giant truck to tow a travel trailer or horse trailer. My bottom line guess is that men are truck crazy similar to the way that girls and women can be horse crazy. Our two-car garage has never held a car. It is too full of "treasures," both his and mine--freezers, gardening tools, power tools . . . :noway:

Machka: What a beautiful place to live! I love your graph, too.

Chris in MA: Congratulations on your great health! Being at a healthy BMI feels wonderful, doesn't it! :star:

Tere in RVA: We have an independent grocer less than a mile from our house. It is an IGA/Market Fresh and our favorite place to shop for most things. There is also a Safeway, a Walmart, and a couple of tiny corner stores. In the next town there is a Fred Meyer/Kroger. The nearest Costco is about twenty seven miles away and the roads can be dicey. We like to shop there occasionally and they are very good to their employees in pay and benefits.

Carol & Lanette: We've replaced both of our mattresses in the last couple of years with Queen-sized foam mattresses that we bought from Sam's Club. The most recent cost $494, delivered to our doorstep. It was up to us to get it upstairs & these are HEAVY. We placed them on our own old boxsprings in one bedroom & palette in the other. I like to buy American made products and these are Chinese imports, but they are very comfortable and hundreds less than similar quality mattresses available at the local furniture store. Our son and DDIL recommended that we try them. We bought the first one a year prior to this, for our own room. We sleep very well & now our guests do, too.

    Chris: Happy Birthday!!! :flowerforyou:

Pip: Sorry you need to cuss. I'll do it with & for you--@!!(((#$%!)))

Kate UK: I hope your weekend improves. :flowerforyou:

My riding lesson today is last--at 1pm. I hope the temperature is still reasonable by then. In my fantasy life, we'll go off down the hill to the shady creek area. I've always had a rich fantasy life. I haven't had the opportunity for a trail ride since last fall. :ohwell:

My sprouted dahl should have been delicious, but the recipe said to add too much salt for us. :'( I should have trusted my instinct that it was too much. I ate it with extra yogurt, but DH couldn't eat much of it. I will make it again though, just with much less salt!! :o

Machka - We will be watching TDF highlights tonight.

I did some typing today. o:)

Katla - I guess we all have our obsessions. Your DH's just seem to be expensive ones! I've always wanted a "Ute" as they call them in Australia. I imagine visiting antique stores and loading furniture. But I don't need one, nor do I need furniture! My obsessions are a bit crazy from time to time. My DH says "Another Amazon parcel!" quite regularly. Sometimes there are two a day! I am only buying normal, everyday stuff, like shampoo, batteries etc, but it does look a bit weird. (We don't live near shops) I also start to pine away if I don't have a holiday planned/booked.

Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx

Chris – Happy Birthday! The best is yet to come!

Machka – Wow, what a temperature difference. Enjoy your hilly ride! I like the idea of twin mattresses on a king sized bed and may consider that. Our current mattress weighs a TON!

Carol – The mattress doesn’t “heat me up” – I have a quilted mattress cover on it which might help. It’s a bit on the heavy side like Katla mentioned, but wasn't a problem for DH to unbox and get set up-he didn't have to deal with stairs.

Pip – I hear you on the cussing! The @%#(!! $ is effective and won’t get bleeped. How about pig latin or double talk? When I worked in Nappanee with the Amish guys, they taught me some pretty good Amish cuss words. >:) I remember them well. Heather, I think that makes me 5% fluent in German, lol.

What is it with men and new cars/trucks/things with engines and motors. Add me to the list! I could write pages! Fortunately, he agrees now that we’re both retired and on limited incomes, his lust for a new vehicle has quieted down so we don’t have to have the “heavy” discussions anymore. I feel for you ladies! We are down 2 two cars over ten years old with less than 100,000 miles and a pickup he rarely drives. Both his car and his truck needed new batteries because they weren't driven enough to keep them charged and in good condition. :s But I'm OK with that - they are all worth money and we'll never need to worry about needing a rental car. Or buying a new one if one of the cars kicks the bucket.

I mostly had long straight hair parted in the middle. I went through a brief phase in high school where I would wet my hair and braid it into many small braids. I would then sleep on it so it would be dry in the morning. When I brushed it out I had glorious kinky waves of hair that were totally straight by noon.

By the time I was 50 my hair was past my posterior. I had never dyed it. I had 3 or 4 permanents that held about as long as my wavy hair mentioned above so Mom quickly gave up trying to perm it. I got all my hair cut off when I was 50. I gave 4 ft. of hair to Locks of Love. I then dyed it purple. I've had a lot of fun with my hair since then. Odd colours. Odd styles. My attitude has been "It's just hair. It will grow out. If I really hate it I can try going bald."

In fact, I did go bald for a fund raiser one year.

When I want expletives I just use all the characters on the keyboard.

My first apartment was meant for single people and was also cheap so it had 2 single beds. It was fine for my room mate and I. So I intended to stay there when we got married but the landlord would not let us change the beds out for a queen or king bed. So we got one of those bridge things. It worked perfectly except that newlyweds get 'active' in bed a lot and that foam bridge gives out. Kind of breaks the mood but we laughed a lot. Was very glad when we moved into our first home.

Knowing Michelle is hoping to help us next week on projects we went shopping for paint today. In the end, Charlie agreed that it be best that Michelle and I pick out the paint ourselves and he will agree with it. The carpet is the original from 1978. It's now a dirty gold. The curtains are room darkening and they are gold. He even puts duct tape around the curtains to prevent any light from coming in. So the room is DARK. He picked out this really darkish tan for both the bedroom and bath. Now the bath does have a small window that has regular mini blinds in it but they are never opened.

Michelle is coming over tonight to borrow one of our cars. Her and a friend are going to Louisville, Ky to Waverly Sanitaruim. I had never heard of it but apparently many people have. It's a previous TB sanitarium that supposedly is haunted. They are taking the tour that you bring a sleeping bag and spend the night.

Back from seeing Aunt Margaret~ poor thing is in a hospital bed, in her living room, we did pick her up a vanilla milkshake..Dr and her will decide Thursday on if they will continue treatment, or start Home Hospice..
Tom and I did stop for dinner, and we brought half home and will use that for lunches and left overs..
I did have a nice nap this afternoon, and then a bath before we left, swept and washed the floors, and will do some more packing tomorrow..
