The red dot light I have looks like a tiny flashlight. It is turned on and has to stay on with your thumb. A thumb can get pretty tired. Tonight we were playing his game of fetch. I never knew cats played fetch. I do not have a good throwing arm at all so I gave the wad of paper to Charlie to throw. At first he would bring it back to me to throw. I guess eventfully he figured out to drop it at Charlies feet.
I have watched fireworks on tv. I didn't like the artists that would be providing the pre fireworks entertainment on the Macy's 4th so I watched The Capitol 4th on PBS. By the time the fireworks were over, I turned it over to Macy's and the fireworks were just starting. It really is true that New York has the biggest fireworks. I did love the patriotic music on PBS. Dad loved that kind of music and I don't think he even knew that while he was listening, his arm was directing. So I sat there and directed it. Macy's did have West Point band and glee club so I enjoyed that. Mr Mozart enjoyed watching them. He just chased those fireworks all over the TV.

When Jake and I took the dogs out awhile ago, Bessie was really scared by the noise of the fireworks. There are no fireworks allowed in our neighborhood but we are surrounded by ranchland and the foothills of the Olympics so lots of people are out in open areas setting off fireworks and probably shooting guns, too.
Jake's ability to do the things he wants to do is severely limited by his heart problems. He gets tired and out of breath very quickly. We worked together this morning on the yard but he had to sit down a lot and rest. He is always embarrassed by it but I am just so happy that we are working together and I don't care. I limit my outdoor working time to 90 minutes so I don't do something that would hurt my back.
We laid down weed cloth and put rocks to hold it down. Tomorrow while I'm dancing, Jake will arrange to have the new rock delivered.
I have the DVR scheduled to record the fireworks at the Capitol and at Macy's. We'll be asleep before either show comes on. I'll watch them in pieces over the next few days.

Lenora our home was built by an electrician so I feel confident about the wiring and outlets. DH was an engineer who designed electrical connectors so I feel confident when he tackles the electrical projects in the home. The outlet in question was twenty years old and its cover had gotten old and let water in.
Lanette loved getting to see a Monarch on the milkweed I let grow wild in our yard. I think she might have been laying eggs. Enjoyed have a barb-a-cue with our boys.
Tomorrow we will visit the refurbished State Capitol with some friends.
I hear fireworks so I will go and see if they are shooting them off at the school up the street.

Did Tonya Larsen's Step and Pump DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to take the deep water class.
Good luck Kate. Update: so glad things worked out OK. On to the next thing.....
In many ways I really like the condo. There's so much that we don't have to do. Allie - what floor is the condo on? The reason I ask is sometimes I find it a bit inconvenient if I've done a lot of food shopping and it's raining outside. Then I have to navigate not only the groceries but also an umbrella. Now it's not a problem for us, but I remember at one time the elevator was out of order. our condo is on the third floor and MIL at the time wasn't in good shape, she couldn't walk up and down the stairs. But on the positive side, you don't have to worry about things like trimming trees/bushes, planting grass seed, cutting grass (hey, will you even know how to do that? You do it so often now) And no more shoveling. What ARE you going to do with all this time????? lol
NYKaren - do you refrigerate the lemon squares before you cut them? What if you were to line the pan with aluminum foil, spray the foil. Then after they are baked, let them cool. You might even refrigerate them. Then take them out of the pan on the foil, do you have a knife large enough to go completely across the lemon square? Then maybe you can just make one cut. After you make that cut, wash the knife before the second cut. Did I make it clear?
Painted the panels on either side of the front door, then went to Lowe's Hardware to get these pavers blocks for under the hose that runs to the hose reel (because it's always a pain for me when I have to cut the grass. I don't want to cut that hose so I have to be real real careful), had to go back to Lowes to get more blocks, bought gas and then cut the lawn (I use the self-propelled mower and weed wacker, Vince uses the tractor). Just as we finished cutting the grass, it started to rain! What timing!!! Now having dinner. For some reason I'm really tired.
Happy Fourth! It rained really hard earlier, but it's not raining now and I hear lots of fireworks.
Heather - here's hoping you don't get what hubby has and hoping he feels better fast
Dana - you love landscape design. Have a question for you. Around our pool Vince was saying that he'd like to plant evergreen trees. Mainly so that it's pretty easy to cut the grass. I don't know how I feel about evergreens. I guess I like variety. He definitely doesn't want anything flowering so that the flowers will go in the pool, that's the main reason he doesn't want anything that flowers. I was thinking of some sort of creeping flower just to give it "oomph". See, all around the pool we have riverrock. There is a bit outside the pool area. What would you suggest?
Denise texted a pic of the favor she's getting for the wedding. She's getting a koosh. You know, those things you put around cans. I'm not crazy about that idea, but if she likes it, that's what matters. Personally, I've never used a koosh and I think Vince has only used one a few times. Wonder how many people will take one?
Love all the pics
Rori - is your hair up in that pic? For that matter, is that you? Really like it. For whatever reason, I was thinking that Mars was black.
All this talk about Master Gardener classes. Exactly what is covered? Which plants do well in which area? How to use plants most efficiently? You are talking to a VERY landscape-deprived person here.
Tomorrow Vince plans to put the screening up around the front door so that the cats can't get out and the bugs can't get in. Then Thurs Fri and Sat. we plan to do the painting. See, we want to do it in 3 days because during the day we need to take the lock off the door but we need to put it back on in the evening.

Hello My Friends,
I have tried to read posts some this week but the convention kept us very busy and worn out. We finished yesterday and took today to relax before making our 10 hour driv e back home. The weather today was beautiful and we sat out by the pool much of the afternoon. It's a nice view as our hotel is on the Riverwalk in downtown Tampa. Tonight we had a hard time finding a restaurant as many of them were closed. Anyway I just wanted to check in before I crash. I've been thinking of you and I wish you all a great rest of the week.
Love ya,

Jack and I walked down the street about a block and a half so we could see the fireworks from the city park. They were gorgeous and we actually could see them quite well. I love seeing them even at my old age. I clapped during the grand finale. Jack laughed at me

Allie Tom should be paying a least half the bills. Do not pay them. I have an Excel spreadsheet with all our bills on it and we have it figured where I pay about 33% to DH's 67% according to how much income we are bringing in. It's only fair that he pays more if the mortgage and bills. We still have our own bills, like my phone and credit card.
Stop being so nice or you will get screwed! And not in a fun way!
"Nice people finish last!"
Lanette and Margaret thanks for info on the Master Gardener classes. I'll call Garvin Gardens and find out more. It's a botanical garden on several hundred acres on Lake Catherine here in Hot Springs. It's operated by the University of Arkansas. Even though I can't do a whole lot of physical work I do have a marketing background with Texas Parks and Wildlife. I have experience talking to people that's for sure!! I even worked at a entomology lab at Nutrilite Products years ago.
Instead worrying about boys I was growing plant starts in my room and raising livestock for FFA class! I guess I was a tom-boy! Did that change!!
Lanette I haven't tried the kefir yet. I would like too.
I have made Kumbucha Tea since the early 90's. I don't have a mushroom anymore to start one but you can buy or find someone to get one from.
It has wonderful properties and has a nice carbonation to it.
Janet. Cute little baby! Thanks for the picture!
Pip I love your dogs! I like large dogs. We have an overnight guest tonight! Callie our neighbor's dog was afraid of all the fireworks so she's asleep in the living room!
Well, I have been averaging 4 lbs a month. Not bad. I have blown it a lot too. I get so down over my physical condition sometimes. Food makes me feel better!!
I have given up beer though! That's good!
I walked 2024 steps today. Mostly with my cane. I hate that thing. People treat me like an old old woman!! Ugh!!
We went to Lowes and pick up some stuff for the yard. DH bought me a hanging basket. Pretty vincas or periwinkles. Tomorrow we're going to the local nursery to buy two more azaleas and some mulch too.
Well good night! I hope everyone had a great day!

Happy 4th all, All is well at my house, fireworks (safe and sane) are legal in my town, which of course means that it is easier to have the illegal ones and not get caught-- so it's pretty loud, and Levi is a bit concerned.
I'm holding my own weight wise, I still have more I would like to release but just not finding the commitment. But no gaining so that is a win. I've re-worked my work schedule and hope that as I stick with it that it will free up some time, I have consolidated some things so I am gardening for longer days but less of them, which cuts down on the commuting and means I have bigger chunks of time to devote to the embroidery.
Barbie - thank you for keeping us going, and I am so glad that things are working out for you and Jake.
Allie - proud of you! the condo looks great
Lisa - thinking of you.

Michele, would the creeping type of flowers grow on and over your rocks. I would imagine it might take a couple of years..
One electrical problem we have is that several of our plugs fall out. So,e of them it is quickly and others are more gradual. MIchelle has a week planned off work to help us with some home projects. I hope we can replace a plug in by ourselves. The most irritating one is the one the DirectV genie is plugged into. If it gets unplugged, such as the kitten running, satellite is gone until we get it plugged back in and it gets satellite again. So if you are recording a movie, you lose minutes. But painting Charlies room comes first.
Joyce, imfiana1 -
LENORA glad you got electrics sorted. DH is a qualified electrician so I have lots of plugs and sockets everywhere, in the kitchen there are at least 6 double sockets.
I love fireworks, never set any off myself but love the large displays. That's one of things I like about my Spanish breaks, they do wonderful displays

Hello, Luscious Ladies!
I made it to the gym today and had a good long workout... But, that is all I have managed.
I am not sure whether it was because I worked out (and I never count any calorie burn for the weights, cause there is nothing in MFP for calories burned) or whether it was just because the darned pasta sauce and tortellini was so good...
But I enjoyed a high-calorie day, today. Still under according to MFP - but, not 400 under budget.
And I am tired, so I am going to bed without planks.
I am going to go off to get some sleep so I can be conscious at work tomorrow... Love you guys!
Tomorrow is another day... but, I am on track for the week.
July Goals for the week 7/2 – 7/8
400 calories under budget 5X: OOOXX
Weights/Abdominals 3X: OOX
Planks 3X: OXX
Hugs for everybody!

Last night I tried to make bread in the Instant Pot. Fail. But I was able to rescue it and finish it in the oven. Delicious!!! Half wholemeal, half granary.
This morning I've made a fabulous black bean soup with smoked gammon. (Raw ham) Just had it with the bread.
Docking myself 350 calories in all. Loads for another day. My poor freezer is already groaning.
Making our own blackcurrant jam this afternoon. Neither of us eat much jam, so 4 pots will last us ages. Fun though!
DH is still not up to par.
Warm here today. Not really jam making weather.
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx2 -
michelle I followed your directions for cutting the lemon squares, Worked like a charm. The one thing I did differently, almond flour for the pastry, meh! I like it better with white flour but hey, it wasn't inedible, just gluten free
Had a peaceful 4th, even took a nap outside on the chaise lounge chair, what a delight.
Take care everyone! NYKAREN3 -

We have 3 pots of heavenly jam. And I don't even like jam normally!
I'm reading a wonderful book called THE BODY KNOWS THE SCORE, which examines the effect of trauma upon the brain and body. Deals with PTSD and also the effects of childhood trauma. I did shed a tear at one or two descriptions of people's lives. It's beautifully written and it is very pertinent to my own life and, I'm sure, to lots of women on this thread.
This morning I counted that I have officially got down to 139 lbs. That gives me a BMI of 23.8. I'm delighted to have left ten stones behind me and entered the nines and to have got my BMI back below twenty four. I intend to get down to 137.
Sea bass for dinner tonight with mushy peas and broccoli. Alcohol going well this week.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx6 -
it took 12 years for bullwinkle to tell me she doesn't like fireworks... all the other years? couldn't care less, snored thru it all :0(2

The sun kissed me yesterday! Aaack! But had s nice day, the firehouse serving free hamburger's and hotdogs, looking at the classic car show, and clapping for the parade down Main Street. I hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th.

Anybody have any "blahs" busters? I could use a couple of motivators today.
Karen in Virginia1 -
I feel very down today. I recorded everything I ate and did lots of walking so I thought I would have lost something!! Alas the scale is at the EXACT number as last week. I know it will move eventually but sure is discouraging. The sun is shining so I will be out doing my steps as usual but not with much bounce.
I now I just have to keep on trucking. :)smile:3 -
This is my first post, I am so amazed by the love and support that you show one another.
Thank you for allowing me to be in the mix of things here.
I guess I should jump right in with my goals for July:
Spend more time in The Word of God~ I am not a good person without Him
Workout times to 75 - 90 minutes 3 to 4 days a week
Increase each rep with weights by 5 or 10 per set
Cut coffee from my evenings, try a great warm relaxing tea blend
Get my water intake up to at least 45 ounces a day I know, but water and I have issues.
Working for a 5-10 pound weight loss.

Hello all! Happy 5th of July! I have been checking in here at MFP, but not logging anything but breakfast. Been so busy with DD and baby Joaquin. Wonderful, but busy Saturday and Sunday, with lots of family and friends popping in on Saturday (bc they couldn't make it to the party on Sunday). Sunday's party/potluck went really well, although it rained the entire time. We moved all of the tables and chairs into the garage and had food set up in the kitchen. I ended up making 6 pounds of pulled bbq chicken and 6 pounds of Sloppy Joe. Folks brought a variety of pasta salads, a couple of green salads, fruit plates, and a veggie plate (thank GOD!). Only a couple of desserts were brought, but they were eaten quickly. It all went really well. DYS helped me with clean up; so that only took about 30 minutes! Monday was a day only for US. (DD, Joaquin, DYS, DH and me) It was wonderful and relaxing. We got out and walked the boardwalk and down town area. Picked up a "Lake Michigan Unsalted" onesie for Joaquin and went to DD's favorite popcorn store and sampled a few flavors and bought her some of that. We ended our day with some chinese food and walked to the beach across the street to watch the sunset. We dipped Joaquin's toes in Lake Michigan and he seemed to enjoy the water and the sunlight glimmering on it. He also seemed to like the sand. He was really just the happiest little guy. He seemed to take all of the baby passing around/handling in stride. After all of the company and stimulation, I was kind of waiting for the typical crankiness to settle in for him but he would just zone out, fall asleep, and wake up smiling! I will try to get a couple pics on here, but most of the great pictures were taken by my daughter or DH. I tended to take pics of him only in the morning (before I got busy). Had to get up early yesterday (the fourth) and get them to the airport. We made a quick stop at great grandmas house, which was on the way so great grandma and grandpa could get another hug and hold session in. With all of their frailties and limitations; we were stunned that they drove to our house (a forty five minute drive-one way- for them) all three days of DD's visit to see DD and Joaquin. Great Grandma is over the moon in love with this baby. (AS am I, so I completely understand her obsession). DD and I began planning visits for the coming few months. The plan is that DH and I will visit this fall and again in January, and DD and her family will come visit over spring break (her hubby is a teacher) and again next summer (but for a week in the summer). It was hard to put them on a plane and send them home; but knowing I will see them in three/four months makes it a little easier. I DID have a mini meltdown as I came home and washed the bottles to store them for the next visit, only to realize that Joaquin won't be drinking out of a bottle anymore at the next visit (he will be a year old next time they come here)! Wah! AFter that little bit of clean up and emotional meltdown, I decided I needed a nap and ended up napping off and on all day yesterday, and STILL went to bed at about 9:30 last night and slept until 8am this morning! Good news is I woke up feeling so good! No sleep hangover. No soreness or swelling in my ankles. I think I really just needed to get off my feet for a day and catch up on four day's worth of missed sleep. The house just needs a quick swipe with a broom and mop and I will be good for my very short week of daycare (two days).
I didn't log at all these past few days. I didn't eat healthy except for maybe a couple salads. But I also didn't eat much. I feel like I was either too busy to eat or too busy hogging Joaquin.
I did try to read and keep up with everybody else, though! Wow! So much going on in every one's lives right now!
Allie- Love the condo! And I love your attitude about it; if it is meant to be, it will happen! It was the 24 hour fitness room and community library that got me!
Rori- I hear you on the doing home repair with DH. I find myself in the same position with my DH. I tend to look up a few "how-to" videos on the project and choose the one that I understand and follow the best. On many endeavors, my DH is on stand by as a "consultant" or "advisor".
Tere- I am not a fruit eater; but I serve all kinds of it to my daycare kids. We have had the yellow watermelon. The kids swear that it tastes different that the regular watermelon and they like it, but we don't find it often.
Mia- although I don't eat a lot of fruit, I do love to buy good fruit when it is in season. Ranier cherries are one of those that my family/daycare kids love! I think pies and desserts are SO much better with fresh fruit, anyway!
Barbie- SO, so happy for you and Jake! Glad that he could see the love that he has for you and listens to his advisors. I will pray that nothing or no one casts a shadow over that love!
Machka- I haven't really tried any of the challenge boards on here. I have done walking challenges on other sites before, though, and they are great motivators.
Pip- Love the patriotic pup pictures! You do look adorable with short hair! I don't know your mom, so you look like you, to me!
Well, it is 12:30 already! Been multitasking while I read and post. Having issues with downloading pics on my computer so will fix that and post baby pics later! ttfn love to you all! KJ6 -
Heather- Thanks for the book suggestion! Love books and info about brains! Congrats on your new numbers! Go 139!3
