Green Smoothie Cleanse - Store bought smoothie recommendation

cleanse is not necessary
jump start is the words used by someone trying to con you out of your money.

It does help cleanse your wallet of that dirty cash, though. At least there's that.9

Thanks for the feedback. I do appreciate the response and also the science. I do read it. When I said the general consensus is not to go store bought. I was referring specifically to the query on Naked Juice Vs Store Bought Vs Juice from the Raw (which is not store bought). My perceived consensus of the feedback is “do not go store bought” this is also aligned with the research I have done which says store bought is not very good. Based on this I will not go store bought.
You have also been helpful in providing the feedback and science on not to do a cleanse at all. I understand this feedback and that this is the overall consensus.
However I have already decided to do a cleanse and was looking for the lesser of 2 evils (Store bought vs invest in getting the real fresh stuff). Its expensive (I agree), not necessary (I agree) , may be a total waste of time (I agree). However I want to do a jump start and I decided to use the cleanse to do it. There have been invaluable feedback from you all and I thank you. I’m definitely not doing 10days for sure. I’ll do 3 to 5 at most maybe.

PS: You're not a motorcycle. No 'jumpstart' needed.

I'm not sure how starving yourself is going to help you kick the junk food diet you are on. Logic would tell us it would just be easier to not buy the junk food. I mean what makes a cleanse so magical that it keeps you from eating a bag of chips? Especially since you know a cleanse does nothing for your body except to make you sick and starving? If you wanted to eat better you would, you wouldn't try stupid crap to get to where you want to be, that just shows that you aren't ready to lose the weight, because you aren't taking it serious.6

There are better, more practical ways to do "jump starts".
I fully understand the idea of wanting to do something to mark the beginning of one's progress to making a big change.
Why not take steps that will form the foundation for lasting, sustainable change rather than engage in something that will just waste time and money?
A better idea for a jump start is to start a Pinterest board to gather healthy recipes. Clear out your pantry of expired ingredients or things you no longer plan to eat. Plan a menu for your first week on your new diet and shop for it, buying plenty of healthy, fresh ingredients.
Read the forum stickies and learn how weight loss works so you understand the process you're undertaking.
Look into different exercise plans and try one or two new things.
All of these are different ways of jump starting one's diet, and they are all far more practical than a "cleanse".15 -

I need to do this as a jump start. Why? Because if I go from eating high sodium foods or sugary foods and slowly ween in to healthier alternatives- I rarely stick to it. My mentality is : "I'll start it tomorrow."
When you purchase and invest into 3 days worth of quickly perishable juices - there's no tomorrow. It's literally you're doing this now without any excuse. Hungry? Increase water intake. Next thing you know - you've double or tripled the average water intake you normally have. Once the three days are complete- the likelihood of desiring the foods you were having daily is minimal.
That's why I like juicing. It's just a jumpstart to making a regimen stick.
It works for some people and it doesn't work for others.26 -

So I have done a 10 day green smoothie cleanse (ok I've only made it to day 7!), but I loved the results. I made the smoothies myself though. I do the cleanse whenever I want to Jumpstart my weight loss journey. I am getting myself prepared to do it again, and i say that because i really have to prepare myself mentally to only drink smoothies. Although the cleanse i use lets me eat hard boiled eggs, small handful of nuts, and crunchy veggies so i don't feel like i am starving. Others may not agree but FOR ME it really helps. I feel like I lose the cravings for junk food and the need to snack whenever I'm not hungry. It works for me, and I see no reason why you shouldn't at least try it. If you have it in your mind that it will work, then there's a higher chance that it will. Good luck!23

You have posted this thread here and have posted a thread in the debate section about having tried the HCG diet.
I'm sensing a pattern here regarding trying unsustainable, gimmicky weight loss "hacks" and learning nothing lasting and yo-yo behavior.
Maybe I'm projecting, but that was my experience with weight loss. Always looking for the gimmick or trick and never really learning anything.
Until I gave up on gimmicks, jump starts, and fads.
You don't need things like this, but moreover, they are counterproductive to the main goal of lasting, sustainable to change that leads to lasting, sustainable weight loss that you maintain for good.
Weight loss like that is not "jump-started" with juice cleanses, it's started with learning how weight loss works, it's started with forming healthy habits, and it's started with getting rid of the idea that you can hack your way into getting rid of a few pounds fast to get yourself "on track".
Managing weight is a life-long commitment. You're never "off track".24 -

Even if you do weigh less when doing them, it is only because you weigh less due to having less solids in your digestive track. As soon as you eat food, it literally goes right back. The only way to lose FAT is by a calorie deficit. Juices are not satiating in general when a sole source of nutrition, and do not have enough protein or fat to sustain health.5

People would be much better off if they "jumpstarted" and "cleansed" with the bowel-scouring amount of fiber you get when you do the 800g-of-veg-a-day challenge several of us have done!
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10521320/10-a-day-800g-veggie-fruit-challenge-participants-check-in/p1
I just do NOT get why people are so set on stripping out their fiber, whether it is eating ultra-processed foods on one hand, or doing juicing "cleanses" on the other hand. It makes zero nutritional sense and is completely irrational. If you eat enough fiber, you're not going to be doing much snackin'.11 -

I'm beyond trying to talk you out of doing this, but believing that weight loss is a matter of "luck" is what's causing you to fail over and over. Until you believe that you have control over your own eating habits you will always be derailed by the "bad luck" in your life.16 -

Why would you have to do it again? It successfully jumpstarted your weight loss the first time, didn't it?23 -

How many jump starts are you needing to do? That doesn't exactly sound sustainable in the long run.
If my car kept needing jump starting I'd trade it in for one that actually worked.15 -
ttcbelieve wrote: »janejellyroll wrote: »What are your goals for this "cleanse"?
To get back on track with healthy eating and maintaining weight. I added 10lbs in the last 2 months. I can't seem to get the motivation or desire to stop eating junk. All I need is jumpstart and I have never tried a cleanse. I'm not looking to lose 10lbs with the cleanse. I just need it to jumpstart getting me back on track. Hope that makes sense
I get the desire to jump start, I really do. I myself bought some cute exercise clothes and a book or two.
When I do the following, I don't have cravings for junk food. # 3 - more protein - is almost magical in how well it works for me. A juice "cleanse" would be the worse thing in the world for me due to the low protein/high sugar.
1. Get sufficient sleep
2. Exercise regularly - when I get the happy hormones from exercise, I'm not prone to seeking them from food.
3. Get sufficient protein in relationship to carbs. I'm not low carb, but reducing carbs and upping protein worked for cravings for me. See also http://www.nutrition.org.uk/healthyliving/fuller/understanding-satiety-feeling-full-after-a-meal.html
4. Eat moderate amounts of fruit. This makes me less interested in higher calorie sweets.
5. Take a magnesium supplement. This can be especially helpful for women premenstrually.
6. Save foods like chocolate for after dinner, in small amounts
7. Stay hydrated
8. Have a calorie deficit that is appropriate for the amount of weight I need to lose. An overly aggressive goal can definitely lead to cravings.
9. Eat at maintenance when my appetite goes up premenstrually.9 -
HCG was a diet I tried 2 years ago. I managed my weight at 155 lbs until as of recently. The juice cleanse I would do was a 3 day stint I did and still do once a year. Why? Because I either hit a plateau (like now) or I develop a bad eating pattern I know I shouldn't. The juice cleanse has never been intended on my behalf to loose weight because it's just water weight. A simple cause of dehydration. A night of drinking does the same.
All a juice cleanse does on my behalf is literally a motivational push to stick to a regimen. Bypassing cold turkey the desire for any vice (sugar, high sodium foods, snacks). It's a push with an expiration date.
That's it.
6 juices a day. Lots of water. If still hungry - high protein shake.17
