It would take just slightly larger than avg of the metabolically active organs accounting for most of your RMR to push you higher.
Shoot - maybe it's all in the brain activity higher than normal!!!!!
And with hypo - perhaps it could have been 30% higher.

It's after midnight here and I'm back from a Christmas party/barbie, catching up on the thread, and guess what I coincidentally happened to choose from the dessert buffet tonight...yep, pavlova. Wow, I haven't had it for a while and had forgotten how sweet it is. I feel like I've had a gazillion calories, but it's probably not too bad, especially compared to some of the other cheesecake type stuff on offer. I haven't attempted to log the party stuff yet...too tired, requires too much brainpower, I'll do it tomorrow, I'm off to sleep...zzzz4

So in today's episode of "Water weight can bug off," I finally worked up the nerve to do BIA today -- my one step-on scale that does it also logs weight to my phone, so I haven't done it, but I also remembered I've got a handheld one. They've both been pretty accurate over time, and I know that they are 4 percent higher than what BodPod put me at, so I just deduct the 4 percent, and log that. And figure that hey, there's a metric, so trend is more important.
There was a ... meaningful drop. Like, putting me within 1 percent of my initial BF goal, drop. That at least makes me feel better that no, this water isn't magically going to make me fat.
And, after that whoosh, only one extra pound has come back. So that's reassuring. Especially considering yesterday was another high sodium day. (This time of year doesn't really have big calorie increases for me, but OMG the sodium.)

I am reminding myself that, just as I shouldn't (and don't) freak at minor scale fluctuations upwards, I shouldn't freak at them downwards either. Weight is not static, that's why we have a range, not a set number. I'm writing that one the other day that would have been much lower had I not had a large glass of water before weighing off as dehydration. I seem to be holding steady now anyway. We'll see what pans out later in the week after any TOM bloat has left the building. At worst (actually best), I have a very nice buffer for Christmas Day, which I'm probably going to need!

Wow, I'm down to my lowest weight ever this morning, consistently eating around a couple of hundred calories more on a daily average than any time since I can remember without being on vacation! I'm convinced my NEAT has increased significantly due to more energy, and I have to say I'm feeling remarkably good for it being the middle of Dec., which is my hardest time of year.
And all the food talk has me motivated to try baking gf Christmas cookies. The last time I tried was a disaster, but I found some one-for-one gf baking flour, so I'm going to give it a go. I miss my mon's recipes (from a page inside an ancient package of Betty Crocker baking flour), and the attempts to recreate them with mixes of gf flours was a disaster8 -

I would need to lose 5 kg to be at my lowest ever adult weight. Not gonna happen. My upper chest is bony enough as it is. That does show how much fat distribution changes with age though, it absolutely was not like that at low weights 20-25 years ago.4 -

Yep, butter in abundance. I remember early on in my MFP days seeing references to grass-fed butter, and one of our run of the mill brands being hailed as a premium and thinking 'wait, Anchor do a fancy butter?', then 'oh wait, that's normal butter from normal cows that eat grass like they're meant to'
Butter price here has sky-rocketed again, but I go through so little it hardly matters. I will probably splash out on the good stuff if I make the shortbread though.1 -

Oh, also, NZ's dairy practices are far from wonderful, environmental nightmare really, but at least our cows get to frollick in the sunshine and eat grass while they pollute our waterways.4

It's 27 C and I am baking a potato for lunch, because my goddamn avocados won't ripen (yes, I have one in a bag with apples, still as green as when I put it in there two days ago). I'm going to buy a couple of bananas today to sacrifice to this ripening cause. Which is going to involve finding the energy to leave the house, which I am hoping potato and beans will give me.1

Potato salad. Actually, cold new potatoes if they're a lovely variety like Charlotte or Jersey Royals can be tres delicious. Of course varieties you can get will be different but just a good potato with flavour, usually a heritage type. I really enjoy marinated artichoke hearts from the deli section too. I'm basically just dreaming of summer food now, even though I actually really really love winter food.3 -

My potato salad requires tomatoes (well, it probably doesn't, but it does, so...). Also, protein. That's my real sticking point, something I can whack a decent amount of protein into. Also, salad means I'm having salad twice a day.
Though, I am now thinking some kind of cold potato/cottage cheese mix type potato salad thing. That could work. Thanks!! And the potatoes will be Jersey Bennies.0 -
Cold potato and Greek yogurt would mix really well too. Add in some mustard maybe.6

Yeah I've done a Greek yoghurt/mayo combo to reduce calories a bit. I put spring onion and chopped boiled eggs in my salad. And have it as a side to my meat, so a bit different for you.1

When I was growing up, my mother used to put bacon in our potato salad. It was mayo based. Could you get some veggie bacon to crumble on? It would add a lovely flavor.
Now I'm wanting some of this ish. I might have to make some during my diet break.1 -

The veggie bacon has both egg and gluten in it. I could get tvp bacon bits though!! Stellar idea.
My usual potato salad recipe calls for half a jar of Best Foods real mayo Whip up the mayo with lots of paprika and some cracked pepper, chuck in the potatoes, halved cherry tomatoes, spring onion. Done. It's amazing.0 -
