Welcome to the thread that has encouraged and supported me for a long time. The journey to health and fitness seems to be smoother with others walking by my side.
How did you do with your goals and resolutions for October?
What goals and resolutions have you set for November?
I found that logging food and exercise and checking in with the women on this thread has provided a strong base for my weight loss journey. I hope the same will be true for you.
Don't forget to bookmark this page so you can find it again.
October Resolutions (with end of the month comments)
*walk an average of 15,000 steps a day (done)
*continue to photograph and read and discard sentimental items and papers (great progress)
*weight training three days a week (didn't get to this until almost the end of the month)
November Resolutions
*walk an average of 15,000 steps a day
*scan photos and documents so they can be discarded
*weight training three days a week

I didn't set goals for October, but my overall goal every month is to 'be lighter'. I gained .5....
So for November:
> average 1900 calories burned per my fitbit daily
> track water on fitbit daily
> be lighter

Joyce - I'll have to wait for pics from the photographer for a pic of me. If I'm not mistaken, he puts them up on the web, you get a password and then can view them. I believe I can download them, too.
Apologies to those who aren't religious at all. Did you happen to notice the handkerchief around Denise's bouquet? That is a handkerchief that her godmother put ribbons on and she wore it when she was baptized as a bib. Now they put it around her bouquet for her to carry down the aisle (something old). Thank you everyone for all the nice compliments. I, too, think my daughter's are gorgeous. But then again, I'm a bit biased (do ya think?)
Wendy - have a wonderful trip.
suebdew - I had a box of tissues in the pew in church at the wedding.....seriously
Chris - love your pumpkin. We had about 30 T or T'ers. The rest of the opened candy is in Vince's office, out of my sight. What bags weren't opened will be returned.
For everyone who is looking for a pic of me -- I'll probably have to wait for the ones from the photographer. I couldn't take a pic of me! It'll come

Barbie Thanks for the new thread! You are the glue that keeps us together.
Michele Gorgeous women in that wedding party. Now we will patiently wait to see the mother of the bride.
KJ Ditto what Rory said. Adorable kids, who obviously adore you! You are an amazing childcare provider. What lucky children! Your scarecrow costume was great.
Heather I would've given those cutie pies double candy, too!
Janetr Mia is sooooo stinkin' cute! And Belle is lovely.
I worked tonight, but my partner said we got a fair number of trick or treaters, including the 6 children who recently moved in next door. I love that we got a bunch of kids this year. Some years we have so few.
Happy November!

Michele I too wanted to say the wedding pictures are gorgeous. Beautiful daughters, must take after their Mama. You have every right to be proud.

PS I too was surprised by Vince's hair. It's funny how we get a mental picture of someone??2 -

Hi Gals,
Machka - I do have a facebook account but don’t use it… I have enough trouble staying in touch here, and some how facebook seems fake to me, everything is “pretty-ed up” and that’s not real life, or at least not my real life.
Allie – if you can take yourself from where you were 2 years ago to where you are now you can figure out the work thing no problem… Remember they are looking at the business bottom line, prove to them with documentation if possible that you are an asset to the business bottom line – it’s not about fair or others spouses income – just keep it about what you add to the business and there’s the proof!
Lisa – happy, safe travels
Heather – loosing someone you love is never easy no matter the circumstances my heart goes out to that family
Michele – Jess and Denise are both beautiful young women – I was surprised that Vince had longer hair, I expected a crew cut, isn’t it funny how you imagine someone you’ve never met.
Rita – I’m in CA between the coast and Yosemite! Love to have you!!!
It’s just a bit after 8pm here, I keep lights on for trick or treaters until 9pm, so far 31, last year I had 47 --- yes I count them, certain things I’m really into keeping track of other things… no worries.. Halloween is tough on Levi, everyone comes to the door and has food, no one shares with him or plays with him, he just doesn’t think it is fair….

Kelly, I love to see little kids toes! Love all the pics. You don't look scary but to kids who are used to you not looking like that I guess they just think it isn't you.
I have tried to put a pic on here of our families newest baby, born today but I guess their security is tight enough I can't share it. And that is OK. This is he baby of one of my nephews who was addicts. He was addicted to heroin and after a 2 year incarceration in a good rehab facility, he is clean. He went to college and got a degree in addiction counseling and already has a degree in culinary arts. So he is the director of the food services at the same addiction center that saved him. Part of the program is that the 'clients' work in different areas of the facility and he will be working side by side with so,e of them as they rotate through the kitchen area.
Ok the other picture. This is my two girls. You hear me talking about Trinity and Ellie all the time, this is them. Trinity is 16 and Ellie will soon be 11 in less than two weeks. She loves her Princess Leah outfit. Hope it comes out.
Had about 20 - 25 kids tonight. Charlie was glad he had some candy since he really does love that job. Mozart went down to see everyone and I could hear them all talking about the pretty cat. Since we are in. Bi-level, he can sit on the ledge right by the door and welcome anyone. For a couple of the groups, I went down and took her to the open door and showed him off. They loved his tail. It's about as big as he is. Melody just sit at the top of the stairs and watched everything. Since she is a tortie, she could be a black cat if seen in the dark. So I was pleased that she was comfortable being low profile.
Our left over candy is already bagged up for me to take it to church. We have a'candy man' and he and his sister make zip lock bags to give out to any kid who wNts it. I must admit one time I decided I was a kid. I did find out that after I tried a piece of bubble gum that it stuck in my partial plate. Bummer. I love bubble gum.
Michelle is coming over to get my cat carrier tonight. Her rescue cat is doing all of her jobs on the floor now. Michelle found him under her good one day, freezing and full of fleas and other things feral cats have. He has never used e littler box for his poo so he goes downstairs for that where she just washes it down her sewer drain. He is about 10 and will hardly let her pet him so she has no emotional tie with him but she doesn't want to take him to animal control or humane society. He won't make a good barn cat since he has lived insid and is deathly afraid of going outside. So she knows eventually he would be put down. So she said she would rather take him herself so at least she knows he has some one loving on him as he is put to sleep. I have a feeling that is why she is asking for my pet carrier.
My laptop won't let me click on Michele's picture. I'll try tomorrow.

Michele - Beautiful Family Thanks for sharing. The wedding pictures turned out very nice! I had kind of a empty feeling when my Children married. Can't wait to see your pictures!

I treat it like a tool to keep in touch with my family and certain friends and also to keep on top of what's happening in the cycling world. Mostly. I've got some weather, news, and travel sites I'm linked to as well ... it's good to know what's happening if you're planning cycling events somewhere.
And what I post there is me. It's stuff I've seen and places I've been -- often photos I've taken, but occasionally photos from travel sites. It's stuff I've done -- mostly cycling-related. And it's stuff that interests me.
I also "manage" a Facebook page for my cycling club ... which is partly why I've "liked" just about every cycling site in the state, some on the mainland, some in Canada and some in the UK. Gotta keep my readers informed!

Barbie, thanks so much for starting the thread.
Michele, the wedding photos are gorgeous! What a lovely thought to have the baptismal bib incorporated in the bouquet, makes it extra special!
Such wonderful photos of littles dressed up for Halloween. We quit giving out candy about 5 years ago, we had so few kids coming up our end of the street, decided it wasn't worth it. We just moved in June, weren't sure what was going to happen this year. We are in a townhouse complex, but there are only 10 units. As we are on a panhandle lot with the driveway being very dark, I wasn't expecting any kids. Don't know if the neighbours got any, we didn't, but I didn't have any lights on either.
Well, October's one goal was to not snack after dinner. That didn't work out so well..... Managed to do it a few times, but kept forgetting and would end up snacking.... But, I am going to keep that as a goal, I figure if I keep at it, I will get it eventually! I am also going to add going to the gym at least 4 times per week. I have a TRX class once a week, at the rec centre, but also belong to a women's only fitness centre where I can "do my own thing". It's a fairly good place, I really like the women only part, going to the rec centre and having to deal with the men and the women primping and prancing for the men.... UGH! Not that I'm against men, per se, I did marry one and like him just fine. Also gave birth to two boys who have turned into fine young men, but when I'm at the gym, I'm there to work out not find a life partner! lol
Okay, that's enough of a rant for tonite!
Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween! Heard fireworks earlier, didn't bother to look. Neighbours a few streets over had fireworks on Saturday night, I went out on the deck and enjoyed the light show! I do enjoy fireworks once in awhile. And now that the cat is deaf, she's okay with them too. Used to have three cats, Halloween was special then! One was a mostly black one too. We did not let any of them out Halloween night! The black one got out one night, got to the edge of the yard and some kids came up the street, he sure made a beeline back to the house in a hurry! (thank heavens!)
Joyce, so nice that your Michele is giving that poor cat some tlc.
And I need to hit the shower and then bed!4 -

Morning, all... Happy November! Thank you, Barbie, as always, for your dedication to the proposition that keeps us together and chatting one month to the next.
DJ - We've known each other so long here that I'd quit looking at where you live... pretty cool that I'll be that close! And yep, I think I'm closer to you than to the rest of the NC crowd...
Rori - Hope your brother can take it as the call to action he needs to finish with alcohol. Sorry you've not been feeling well.
Joyce - Sounds like Mozart thoroughly enjoyed himself on Halloween night.
JanetR - Mia's SUCH a cutie!
Corey and I were talking about it last night, that the time change this weekend will be zero impact for us - just as we get in the Eastern Time Zone, we will drop back to the time we're at here in the Central Time Zone now, so... big shrug.
Packing and loading day - and allowing my husband to sleep in on a weekday until he wakes up. That is, perhaps, the biggest pleasure of all. D-Day (Departure Day) tomorrow, early as he'll let me roust him. We just have no idea how fast he's going to be able to go in the pickup towing a fully loaded trailer. Today... I'll pack and get it out to the trailer (the handy part about having your own warehouse, Corey backed it up onto the warehouse floor to load it). He will actually pack the trailer.
Oh. And cleaning. My favorite.
Lisa, leaving tomorrow for NC - and thanks for all the good wishes!

Yesterday, my boss had a little Halloween celebration. He does that every year because he likes Halloween ... the rest of us really don't care one way or the other, but hey, if there's going to be nicely decorated cupcakes ...
Anyway, the conversation turned to pumpkins.
Here in Australia everything in the pumpkin family is a pumpkin, so this includes squash and whatever else. Also the pumpkins that look something like North American pumpkins aren't hollow inside. They are full of edible flesh, with just a small area of seeds right in the middle.
So my boss, who has spent some time in the US, and I were describing to everyone how the North American pumpkins were basically hollow except for a bit stuff that's kind of like netting and the seeds in the middle. I told them that that I used to roast the seeds, which they'd never heard of, because, of course, the pumpkins here don't have those kinds of seeds.
And then we started talking about pumpkin pies. Quite a few of them had always thought that pumpkin pie was a savoury dish, and didn't know it was sweet. They'd also never heard of pumpkin muffins (as a sweet thing) or pumpkin lattes etc. etc. In fact, they had a bit of trouble getting their heads around the idea of a pumpkin as sweet. I've never been fond of pumpkin pie, and you should have seen their faces when I said I used to put maple syrup on my pumpkin pie to make it taste better !!
I also told them that I much prefer pumpkin as a savoury food ... as a vegetable ... like how it is served here. For 40 years, I never could really get into pumpkin as sweet ... I was never one who could hardly wait for pumpkin pie or would anxiously wait for pumpkin lattes and all that to appear on menus. And yet, with my first pumpkin and curry soup ... I discovered I really like pumpkin!
I remembered I had a can of pumpkin pie filling in my cupboard that a former coworker had gotten for me, so I brought it in today to show them. They were quite interested in that, having never seen a can of pumpkin pie filling before.
Now they want me to make a sweet pumpkin pie so they can try it, but I don't know ... the can is past its "best by" date by 7 years. Yes, I've been dragging it around with me for 7 years! Maybe I'll see if I can contact the one place in Australia where I think I can get a can of pumpkin pie filling, and see if I can get a "fresh" can.
So, with all the talk about pumpkins, tonight my husband served up pumpkin, ricotta and spinach lasagna.

Love, Love, Love all the photos from the end of Oct til the Beginning of Nov. Michele, your wedding photos are great. Waiting for one of you.
Even though I know a lot of you like the idea of the time moving back, please remember all the little kids who have to board the bus in the dark.
Having wood delivered today to acclimate so it can be installed next week. Wooo! Yipee!

Hi all!
Decided this morning we are going to have a go at selling our house again. DH is on the phone to the agent right now. If we don't have any luck it's ok. Not going to look in Hove until we've sold here. We will take a look at the property websites now and then to gauge price movements. We know roughly what we need to get for ours to be able to get a satisfactory property. Location is crucial for us and parking.
I really am in two minds, but we know that we are not getting any younger and moving will only get more difficult. The problem is that we love our house. And our view.
I am not good with change and I hate breaking eggs to make omelettes.
There will be so many good things about moving to Hove. It will suit me. Plus the grandchildren, of course.
I've loved all the Halloween, baby and kids photos!!! Fabulous!
Michele - I too didn't realise Vincent had long hair! I had a totally different image of him. Can't wait to see you in the pics.
Oh well, I think a lot more decluttering is in my future.

I'm just not that into cooking ... or pumpkin pie ... to be motivated to make it from scratch.
If I were to get a new can delivered, I'd probably go the quick and easy route with a pre-made pie shell, a quick mix of the can's contents with the suggested milk and eggs, and bake.
I'm also not that fond of cutting up pumpkin here. I made a veggie curry in my slow cooker, and pumpkin is one of the many things I add ... but you've got to have upper body strength and a good strong knife to cut pumpkin. It's rock solid!!

Good Morning and Happy November
Having a quiet start to my day with you all, no students coming through my door, since I cancelled the before school rehearsal, sleepy sugar hangovers and 10 year olds do not make for a productive rehearsal, so I just cancelled the darn thing!
I have simple goals for November:
log food and exercise in mfp
relax and breathe, counting blessings for the entire month
take everything new and scary one step at a time
check in with my scale once a week (maintain maintenance weight!)
With you all by my side, how could I go wrong?!?! Thanks Barbie for your leadership!

Good morning from chilly, dark NW Washington. The dogs and I have been out for our first walk and are enjoying our breakfast.
We used to grow pumpkins including a variety called "Australian Heritage". For years I baked pumpkins and scooped out the "meat" and froze it to eat as a vegetable. Occasionally I made pie. Now that I have reordered my priorities, I don't spend much time in the kitchen and we don't grow pumpkins so I bought a can of pumpkin (plain pumpkin, not the the pumpkin pie mixture) and served it as a vegetable. Probably not as great as growing and baking my own pumpkin, but delicious and easy.
Daylight savings time is a different phenomenon depending on where you are east to west in the time zone and how far you live from the equator. Additionally, the effects are different depending on whether you are a night owl or an early bird. I get up at 4 AM and go to bed at 7:30 PM. The extra daylight in the evening is totally lost on me. We spent one summer at the eastern edge of our time zone and even with DST, experienced daylight before 4 AM. Where Penny lives, her daylight and dark is completely different from what any of us experiences.
In October I averaged 15,893 steps a day and I hope to do the same in November.

Happy November!
Goals this month K-I-S-S (keep it simple, stupid)
walk daily
water frequently
watch the carbs
weight/resistance train daily
Well, I weighed in yesterday; and with my cold affecting my walking and swimming, it must also be affecting my appetite as I am down two pounds!
On pumpkin: I love my pumpkin pie and pumpkin muffins. I cut the sugar in half when I make my own, because with all of the other wonderful spices that go into them I don't think it needs to be that sweet. That said, I love my savory squash dishes/soups. I would think you could halve a pie pumpkin, seed it and bake it in the oven like you do the others. When I make my butternut squash soups, I always do it this way; then scoop out the soft flesh and stir into the soup pot and cook for about 45-60 minutes so that all of the flavors meld together, then puree into silky smoothness! Here is the recipe that I use. It is not mine; it is from Allrecipes.com. (I get a lot of recipes from this site) http://allrecipes.com/recipe/189936/curried-butternut-squash-and-pear-soup/
Evie- I have long thought that marriage is the hardest thing I have ever done. I often say, I would rather raise 20 children than get married again. DH and I have been married 28 years and I often accuse him of not being spanked enough as a child. It is hard living with a person that some one else raised. That said, I raised my DD and I love her and admire her as an adult; but we would never be able to live together as adults. I think that something happens to our children when they are back in the "home" with mom. Whether they are visiting or living for a while. They want to assert their "adulthood" and independence; yet they are content to let mom become mom again when it comes to taking care of things around the house. (ex., laundry, meals, shopping, errands).
Well, kids have arrived. I have been writing in between activities. ttyl hugs to all who need them xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)9 -
Good morning from chilly, dark NW Washington.

Pumpkins: Our grocery stores are full of a whole variety of pumpkins, and often half or quarter pumpkins ... this makes it easier to cut them up. But they are still as hard as rock. There's no "scooping" ... there's leaning on knives with full body weight.
We also get all sorts of pumpkin soups in packages and cans.
DST: I am very much a night owl. It is a rare night that I'm in bed before 1 am. Right now, it is midnight and because I have to get up early tomorrow (7:30 am), I've got to be in bed by 1:30 am at the latest so that I get at least 6 hours sleep or I can't function.
I'm studying ... or I would be heading to bed a bit earlier than that.
Daylight: I used to live in far north Alberta ... not as far north as Penny, but we'd only get 2 or 3 hours of true night during the summer ... and then in the winter we'd only get a few hours of daylight. You'd go to school in the dark, come home in the dark, and only see the daylight at lunch. I loved the summers there!
Steps: Well done on the steps! I just looked at where I am in the Step Challenge I'm participating in ... and I'm at 15,636 right now.
