Happy November!
Evie- I have long thought that marriage is the hardest thing I have ever done. I often say, I would rather raise 20 children than get married again. DH and I have been married 28 years and I often accuse him of not being spanked enough as a child. It is hard living with a person that some one else raised. That said, I raised my DD and I love her and admire her as an adult; but we would never be able to live together as adults. I think that something happens to our children when they are back in the "home" with mom. Whether they are visiting or living for a while. They want to assert their "adulthood" and independence; yet they are content to let mom become mom again when it comes to taking care of things around the house. (ex., laundry, meals, shopping, errands).

Well said and couldn't agree more! Congrats on the 2 pounds!

I'm studying ... or I would be heading to bed a bit earlier than that.
M in Oz
Can't do it. I've been up so late most nights this week studying ... I've just suddenly ground to a halt. I'll be in bed by 1 am (in a few minutes) instead of 1:30 am. I probably do need the little bit of extra sleep.

Not so successful on this count
Core exercises: every night
Did very well with this until my back acted up again and it became too painful
Menu planning: persevere in the hope of making it a habit
Did three weeks of four!

Halloween only about 1/2 the usual trick or treat crowd (ugly weather) so about 350 trick or treaters instead of 700+. That means we have A LOT of leftover candy . I have resisted so far, but I am only human. I may have to throw it in the trash
The Halloween pics of the little ones were so wonderful! I had to work this Halloween, so I was unable to see the trick-or-treaters. I miss them and was very happy to be able to enjoy the costumes y’all displayed for me.
Pumpkin hmm. I always thought I did not like pumpkin. But I’ve only had sweet versions. In the past few years I realized I love sweet potatoes, but only when prepared in a savory manner. I do not like sweet sweet potato dishes. I wonder if I would like a savory pumpkin dish?
DST I love daylight savings time – I love it so much I wish we never left it. I don’t understand in this modern world why we switch the times in the fall and spring Let’s just pick one.
Michelle I love the pictures! Your daughters are quite beautiful, I don’t think you’re biased at all. I really liked the photo of Denise dancing with Vince. My husband had long hair for about a decade, but it is now as short as a military shave, and I miss the long hair quite a bit.
Chris safe travels!

October 2017 Resolutions:
1: Log every bite and swallow.
Done! This is the world's best habit because it keeps me honest with myself.
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on strength and stamina.
Done, but at a minimum. I had several distractions and wasn't as consistent as I'd like.
3. Have fun every day. DONE
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day. Done
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly. Done!
One of my main assumptions is that if something isn't broken, don't fix it. My goals will look very familiar because they work for me, and I'm not "fixing" them.
November 2017 Resolutions:
1: Log every bite and swallow.

3. Have fun every day.
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day.
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.
The painting is done but one of the lights in the bathroom was not correctly installed and has to be remounted. It is above our medicine cabinet and the doors now hit the light bar when we are trying to open them. Not happy about that. Otherwise, things have gone very well.
We currently have a very big concern. Our six-year-old granddaughter is in the hospital & has been diagnosed with diabetes. Please put her in your prayers. DH has been diabetic since about age 18 and always thought it was caused by an injury when he was trampled by one of his sister's horses. Her youngest grandson was diagnosed with diabetes about two years ago so the theory of trampling is not true. It evidently runs in the family. Please put Hazel and her family in your prayers.

Katla - So sorry to hear about the diabetes. My yoga teacher's grandson was only one year old when he was diagnosed. Thank goodness for modern medicine.
We have just had a food delivery. The potatoes and broccoli had a short date so they were free and they gave us a huge, posh chocolate panettone (Heston Blumenthal) as a thank you gift for being good customers. That should last DH until the Christmas cake, which is in the oven, has matured. We use this company because they stock our favourite pastis!
Much love, Heather xxxxxxxxxx
Just looked it up the panettone is worth more than $182 -
Oh, Katla, so sorry to hear the news of your granddaughter. I'll keep them all in my prayers. So hard for someone so young.

October goals:
-Getting the best night sleep I can get.
-I did make it to the pool last month. The pool I use will be out of commission for two weeks will try walking more to make up for it.
-continue to eat high fiber and watch portions.
-do something fun daily.
November goals are the same.
Pool is open again so I hope to make it at least 12 times.
Allie my DH replaced our bulbs with LED's and that helped with the electric portion of our bill. They are more expensive. Perhaps you could replace the lights you use the most often first. You could turn down your heat when you are not there just not not make it lower than 50. If you go lower you run the risk of pipes freezing. We had an energy audit a few years ago and was amazed where there were leaks. It does help that you you have other units around you to conserve the heat. Did they disclose what your utility bill was going to be when you set up your agreement. Keeping utility bills down is a challenge for us all that live in colder climates or extreme heat with A/C.

Rye , don't throw away your candy, donate it to your local food bank.
Katla, prayers for your Hazel!
Well today's appointment was cancelled for husband, and rescheduled for January. Glad DH looked at his emails this morning, where it was posted! I wouldn't have been happy going 2 hrs to find out no appointment!
Today I am 242 lbs. Started out at 245.8 last week, so I'm happy! I got this!

Katla - So sorry to hear about your granddaughter. But if I might, I'd like to share a few wise words of a very old friend from high school. He was diagnosed with diabetes just barely into his teens. In high school, he chafed at not being able to party as freely as everyone else. But now he's in his sixties, he says he's grateful he learned the value of taking good care of himself at a young age. Now, when everyone else in the old gang has to struggle to overcome a lifetime of bad habits, he's in better shape than most 30-year-olds.
I know that doesn't make it any easier for you or your family - your granddaughter will probably feel that life is unfair - but I hope it at least it gives a tiny positive spin to a negative situation. Masses of (((hugs)))

Hi all,
Still without power and they are now saying we won’t get it back before Friday. AUUGH! All we can really do is read which is why I finished your book Lisa. I really enjoyed it a lot. Showered again today at work and looks like I will be tomorrow and Friday as well. Works out good for me. I’m going to see is a friend of ours will let DH shower at her house. DD is home tonight after class but is going to take her cat and stay at her dad’s tomorrow. DH third night not sleeping because he doesn’t have his apnea mask. Haven’t even been tracking as we have been just grabbing something for dinner on the way home. Good thing we have a wood stove as it has been in the 40s here at night. Of well it is what it is for now.
Lisa, be safe on your trip.
Heather, the bling on my eyes was just a weird feeling. Kept seeing it a little. Was easy to come off as they were like stickers. By 2:00 I was ready to take it all off so did. Good luck selling your house. I know it was a big decision for you.
Kelly, loved the pics. Wish I could have been there to see and play with all the kids. You are so good with them. Way to go on the 2 lbs!
Becca, glad your DH dermatology appt went well and hope your liver dr appt does as well when ever it ends up being. ((HUGS)) Love the pics. The last one was the best! Yohoo on the 2 lbs!
Marcelyn, who would even think to hurt a black cat. It is sad to think we have people like that.
Margaret, love the chocolate business’ name. I’m still working on what I want to call my jewelry business. Sounds like you had a nice day.
Michele, beautiful bride! I like the flowers too. So bright and colorful. What a lovely thought to put the handkerchief around it.
Wendy, love the quote. So true.
Chris. The pumpkin is so funny. Someone is very clever.
Rori, glad your brother is feeling better and his spirits are up. Hope you feel better soon.((HUGS))
Janet, Mia looks so cute! And Belle is beautiful! I don’t blame you for posting one more pic.
Bjmcq, Good for you not eating any candy! I only had one candy here at work so I guess I did pretty good.
Barbie, thanks once again for the thread for Nov. Can’t think of any goals at the moment. Will have to sleep on it.
Joyce, love the costumes on the girls. Too bad that the cat will be put down. Sometimes it’s the only thing you can do.
Machka, congrats on a good Oct! Loved the pumpkin stories.
Allie, good luck with your dad. I hope it goes well.
Katla, how stressing that yopur granddaughter has diabetes. That is so young. I’ll send a lot of healing wishes for her and the family. ((HUGS))
Rita, welcome to the group and congrats on the 3 lbs. Way to go girl!
Well gained a lb so now further away from “onederland”. Oh well I’ll get there. I little weepy today and not sure what that’s about. Hopefully it will pass and I’ll be back to my old self tomorrow. Here's a link to a cute Halloween video for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFjvmThY4wU

Hi Sisters, my five goals for November are:
Maintain my weight while on holiday.
Complete the Half Marathon on Nov 26th.
Do four fasting days.
Get into the 120's and stay there!
I don't need to set exercise goals as they are actually rewards for me, LOL. I so enjoy my running and working out and walking my dogs, plus all the horse, paddock, bee keepng and gardening are all part of my everyday life. Exercise is not my problem area. It is what I put in my mouth and how often I put it in. So my final goal is to:
Eat less and eat better.
To break down these goals into steps that I can actually take:
1. On holiday I will not drink alcohol or eat red meat. I will drink lots of water. I will enjoy tropical fruits. I will try some of the islander food. Exception to the alcohol- I will try kava. LOL Want to see what my hallucinations might be. I will take healthy snacks with me so I don't ever binge because of blood sugar swings.
2. I will continue my run training, working on sprints to increase my speed, and one long run of ten miles a week. I will book a tent site in a campground and drive over early the day before so I can find the starting place. I will carbo load the day before on pasta and bread. Whoop! I will make sure I set aside money for gas!
3. I am going to write my four FAST days on my calendar and figure out when I can do them without interfering with my run training or my holiday.
4. I am going to weigh daily and weigh myself before I eat any Sugar treat and I will keep my liquids to water with a lime and pomengranite squeeze.
5. I am going to write down each morning exactly what I plan to eat that day and when and carry my Eat List with me, and take my lunch so I don't just splurge because I feel stressed at work...
So that's my game plan for November. Wendy

Barbie ... thank you for the new thread.
Katla ... so sorry to hear that Hazel and her family will be dealing with juvenile diabetes. I will keep everyone in prayer.
I was neither kind nor good to myself in October ... the scale was up 2 pounds. My goal for November is to become consistent again with CICO.
I think I will be cancelling our gym memberships as we have not used them for well over 18 months. I would like to get my basement in some kind of shape to be a modified home gym ... especially with poor weather on the horizon. I have a treadmill, a recumbent bike, hand weights and bench weights, exercise balls and a weighted hula-hoop (unbelievably difficult for me). I'm intrigued with Mary's success with kettle balls and think that would be a good addition. Right now the basement is a catastrophe and needs to be more appealing for me use it as a gym. I started once before and got derailed. So part of November goal is to finish that up and then USE the space!
Beth near Buffalo4 -
Beth - I hope you get your home gym sorted out. Our home gym is the most important factor in my keeping at maintenance weight. We have a rowing machine, cross trainer and recumbent bike in a small spare bedroom. Over the years it has paid for itself in saved gym fees! I use a directional fan to keep cool. We listen to the BBC Radio 4 to keep us entertained. It's important that the area should feel welcoming and you enjoy the sessions. I am lucky in that I have my very own personal trainer in the shape of DH . Sometimes if I do an afternoon session I watch TV programmes on my tablet. Audio books would be good too. Much nicer than struggling out into the cold to get to the gym. I keep my dumbells and kettlebell in a cupboard in the bedroom and do those and my yoga etc on a mat at the foot of our bed.
Photographer coming tomorrow for the house brochure! I am going out to lunch in Winchester with a friend, so DH will be in charge of staging. I got my artificial amyrillis out from under the stairs and DH went out to buy colourful fruit! I managed to give him three articles of clothing and a big pile of books to take to the charity shop. Going to have a blitz on books as I want to find shelves for my cookery books which are in a pile on the floor. I didn't want to shove them back in the glass fronted dresser after the hall was painted. It looks nicer with just crockery in there, but all the books have to find a place. I will get rid of some.

Happy Go Cook For Your Pets Day!
"On this day, as a responsible owner who wishes to repay your pet’s loyalty and affection, you are encouraged to ditch the usual tinned nonsense you insist on feeding your furry friend and instead cook up a culinary delight which will tickle their taste buds like nothing before." Frankly, Luna's concept of culinary delight is somewhat suspect.
Thank you Barbie for keeping us moving forward! I haven't been watching the World Series but it sounds like it's been a real delight for baseball fans this year. Go 'Stros!
Michele - What a nice keepsake for Denise's something old!
Lisa - Hey, I could live in a tiny house if I had a warehouse! Best wishes for a smooth move.
Machka - I prefer sweet potato pie to pumpkin pie, but I like a lot of other pumpkin stuff so I often will look for pie pumpkins at the grocery store. Some varieties have more flesh than others. Pumpkin lasagna sounds delicious! I always have canned pumpkin puree (not pie filling) on hand for canine digestive emergencies and also for lazy pumpkin recipes. Cutting up a pumpkin sent me to the ER once, so I try to avoid it if I can and be really really extra careful if I'm determined to do it from scratch.
Terry - So sorry you're in the dark! Losing power really makes you realize how much we depend on our modern conveniences.
I got side-tracked again and missed checking our community the last few days of October. We didn't have any trick-or-treaters, but I didn't expect anyway. Our neighborhood is really dark and has no sidewalks. I think some of the newer area of town get kids walking the neighborhood.
With open enrollment in the U.S. starting today, I'm looking at health insurance again. Our crappy plan is going up again, to over $1300 a month, so we're either going to find another option or do without next year. Have any of you had experience with a health sharing ministry? Right now that's what I'm looking at and I've found some fairly promising options. We're not religious but I think we can agree with most of their standards-of-belief statements in good conscience.
In the meantime I've been trying to catch up with medical stuff. My poor old glasses finally got so scratched up I had to get an eye exam and order new ones (ka-ching). Got my teeth cleaned and check, and also made an appointment with my doctor since she's holding my prescriptions hostage. So that's everything but the mammogram and colonoscopy. I think I can probably afford the mammo next month, and the colonoscopy is on indefinite hold. None of that is paid for by insurance, so the insurance situation doesn't affect it one way or the other.
Now I'm off for a lunch and stationary bike break.
-Yvonne in TX3 -
Heather, Janet and everyone: Thank you so much for your kind words about my DGD. We called the hospital this morning and had roses sent to her along with a teddy bear. I had a chat with the other grandma this morning, and she probably needs to be checked for diabetes, too. Everyone else was at the hospital learning about how to take care of a diabetic, but Pat, the other grandma, had to stay home and babysit. I hope she'll get the training. She's been a big sugar pusher. Breakfast was full of sweet rolls every day when I was there last October. :noway: There are needed lifestyle changes and she needs to know about them.
Becca: Congrats on your weigh in. The scales are going in the right direction. Thanks for your good wishes for Hazel.
Rita: I love your new photo. You look lovely and happy.
Penny: Thanks for your wisdom. DH is diabetic, and thinks that taking care of himself has likely saved him from alcoholism, and who knows what else. On the other hand we'd much rather that he not have it. :ohwell:
I managed to go to yoga today and have also taken down the Halloween decorations. Thanksgiving, here we come!!!

I don't like sweet potato as sweet either. Mostly I use it in my slow cooker curry dishes. While real potatoes remain relatively hard and intact, sweet potato turns to mush which acts as a thickening agent. Covered in all kinds of spices, many other veggies, and light coconut milk, you'd never even know it was there.
Roast pumpkin is an easy one to do. Cut up pumpkin, potatoes, carrots, onion, etc. and set them in around a roast chicken or roast beef. That's yummy!!

We cancelled our gym membership after 1 year ... it was costing us about $1800/year and we did use it, but only 2-3 days a week during winter, and maybe 1-2 days a week other times of the year.
Then we set up a bit of a home gym. It's not big or fancy, but I can do some weight lifting and I've got one of my bicycles on a trainer.
Most of our time is spent cycling and walking outdoors anyway.
And if we want to use a gym, I discovered I can use the university gym for half price because I'm a student, so we drop in. We were going to spinning classes once a week, on the day I attended classes, and then going upstairs and using the rowing machine. But now that I'm finished for summer, we'll probably go back to dropping in whenever the weather is bad to use the rowing machine, treadmill, and maybe some weights.

Well, since we didn't have to drive to Portland, we went shopping instead! But before we did that, we went and ate out for lunch. Had the lunch buffet at our local pizza joint. I was careful in the Salad area! Took only lettuce, 3 slices of beets, 1/4 cup of cottage cheese, 1/4 cup of three bean salad, 1 tsp of sunflower seeds, and a Tbsp of dressing. I did NOT take the potato salad, hardboiled eggs, or macaroni salad! I had 1 and a half pieces of pizza though. Oh and a half a glass of soda... Bad Becca!! Tonight shall be cottage cheese, cucumbers and some of my EVOO dressing. No breads or pastas!
Interesting how my eyes can measure things! This past week, I ate my applesauce out of the 1/2 cup measuring cups! My DH just shakes his head...
Ooh today I bought more cottage cheese, vanilla Greek yogurt, walnuts, a tomato, an avocado, two English cucumbers, and a zucchini!! Yummy food for third upcoming week!
Out grocery trip was $70 but I allotted $100 a week, so life is grand.
Hugs to each and every one of yas!

My husband however is having lasagna tonight, and later in the week chicken parmesan, and a hungryman TV dinner. Also he bought pizza bites, and pepperoni sticks! We are on polar opposites on eating!! He eats what he likes!
