Morning, all... Fitbit says I slept a bit over 7 hours last night, woot! Very unusual for the first night in a hotel room, but I was exhausted. Middle seat on the nearly 4-hour flight from Atlanta to El Paso, which I just absolutely hate... but they switched my seat willy-nilly last minute. I only like middle seats when I'm traveling with the hubby, and can lean on him. Up early Mountain Time, which I'll regret this afternoon, but I'll survive. I'll have a roomie tonight and possibly tomorrow night, hope they like sleeping in a chilly room.
Looking forward to the week now that I'm here. It's staff retreat, my first one, mainly team-building stuff, not terribly serious. Got some writing to do...
Love y'all!
Lisa, back in West Texas for the week...4 -
Lisa enjoy your retreat, treat yourself well and get in that writing.
Joyce that pic with your ornament is precious.
BOy all you crafters are inspiring, have a great day everyone. Walk away from the cookies.....

Michelle - they gave us a pass on the sweater part since hubs coat was sooo tacky.
Janet - Love the ornament pic! Beautiful!!

No cookies here ... they don't seem to be a Christmas thing.
But speaking of Christmas things, in Canada mandarin oranges were a big Christmas thing. Grocery stores sell reasonably large boxes of them containing 25 or 30, each wrapped in green paper.
Even when I lived by myself, I'd go through a box or two leading up to Christmas ... love mandarins!
In Australia, mandarins come ripe at a different time of year so we don't usually have them for Christmas. As I've mentioned before cherries are the fruit here.
But yesterday, after the century, my husband and I stopped in at the grocery store ... and they had mandarins on sale!! How exciting! I bought two!
What's the Christmas fruit in your area?

Morning Ladies~
slept pretty well except for tossing and turning a bit... Tom tried calling me while I was down at the Winchester, and I texted him back, he just wanted to tell me thanks so much for taking such great care of his dad.... I love Buddy dearly and the way he was treated all his life,I want to make the end of his life the best it can be.
I didnt get alot done here at the condo I wanted to this weekend, but will do it during the week... will see if Tom has any zip ties ,and will get one more extention cord .. working 9-5 today...2 -

Lanette - I managed to print out my free voucher today! They make it as difficult as possible, but I navigated my way right through. Now I will have to see if it works in the shop! I plan to put it towards a sweater.
Finished my workout this morning with a quick kettlebell routine 5x10x17lbs. I haven't done any for ages as it seemed to aggravate my knee, but so far so good. I love the way it bumps up your heart rate so quickly. Elevating your heart rate is one of the best things you can do for your body. (YOUNGER NEXT YEAR )
I spent a lot of the morning saving photos on my laptop and memory stick. My laptop drives me insane, it is so old and jumpy, but I'm pleased I've done it. I'm going to type out a bit of my memoir this afternoon so I've left it on Zzzzz, so I don't have to boot the #÷××+÷ up again.

Terry I watched a tutorial on how you made your gnomes on Facebook. They do look fun to make. The thing I noticed as she filled the sock with rice is she only put a little in at a time and the tamped it up and down to help the rice settle. As she constructed them she also hot glued the pieces down. Adorable.
M in OZ the friends we went to the concert with just came back from Australia and New Zealand. It was fun to tell them about you and pictures you have shared with us too. They went on a cruise and saw a city a day. Not the way I like to travel, but they sure got a great overview.
Fruit here pomegranates and citrus. We import many things so you can still get blueberries, strawberries.
Apple too but they are not as good as fall one.
Michelle I am having the same problem. That is why I am going to work on sleep, then diet and exercise will be focused. My diet and exercise habits are better than my sleep. I am hoping they will improve as my sleep improves. 6 and a half last night of good quality sleep. I then dozed for another hour shortly thereafter. Progress.

I'm glad they had a good time. Did they happen to say if they'd been to Hobart on their cruise? And which ship? I ask because we get cruise ships in here every few days, and I usually go down to the dock to have a look.
Raspberries are coming ripe about this time too. Unfortunately they seem terribly expensive to me. I spent many summers picking raspberries, as summer work, in the lower mainland BC area and it seems we could get raspberries for quite reasonable rates ... but of course, that was a long time ago.

My current knitting project is a black wool scarf--it will look great with my coat and keep me warm but isn't very interesting. Here is a picture of the knitting project I did years ago. My friend in California texted the picture when she hung hers this year.

Barbie - those Christmas stockings are gorgeous! Have you ever seen the knitting book "Foxes, Geese and Fences" - that intricate 2 color reminds me of their patterns. I've attempted them a couple times.
Regarding sleep problems.... my challenge is the sinus headaches & neck aches that hit me anywhere from midnight to 2 am several times a week. Looking forward to seeing the ENT doc tomorrow and seeing if he has any new ideas. Still searching for the perfect pillow, lol.
Getting to sleep is fairly easy for me, thank goodness.
Heading out shortly for my yearly eye exam. Have a great week!

Well hello and happy Monday. There were way too many posts to read them all, but I did read some regarding the instapot. My good friend has one and I have loved everything that comes out of it. Much better than the crock pot. But I'm not up to another kitchen appliance either.
I did manage to lose a little weight this week, so I guess I'm starting to get back on track. Despite all the crappy eating I have been doing, my A1C was 6.3 which astonished me.
I had a nice, quiet weekend at home and felt peace. What a nice change. It was gorgeous here so I did some work outside.
DH is doing well, I talked to him 3 times over the weekend. It's nice to hear his voice...it's soothing.
Well, I know this is short, but I must run. Take care all, Meg from sunny but windy Omaha4 -
Did some typing .... and saving it...on stick. ...on email .....and on Dropbox. And I always print it out. Phew! Slowly, slowly it's coming together.
Prepped dinner and danced around the kitchen to my new Bluetooth tiny speaker. Sometimes technology is just wonderful! DH was out for a walk, but it's too cold and wet for me out there. :grumble: Tonight is going to be v cold. Brrrrr! I'm charging up my phone, radio etc in case of a power cut.
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx2 -

DJ ~ Glad your Moose Club brunch went well. I am sure the ladies loved the scented candles.
Marcelyn and Son ~ Congrats on your run. Truly outstanding.
Joyce ~ Glad you were able to join the choir. Know how much it means to you.
Alison ~ I hope you and Tom can continue to communicate well.
A thought for those wanting to make inexpensive gifts. One year I bought very long men’s socks, filled them with rice, and tied a pretty bow to close up. My DH loves putting these in the microwave for serveral minutes to use as flexible heating pads.
Love all the ornaments that everyone has been showing. Barbie, your stockings are so cute.!
Meg ~ Glad you are feeling peace.
During the snow storm a limb hit an AT&T phone line connected to our house and it is drooping over the garage door. I cannot get my car out until it is moved. AT&T said they could do nothing since we do not currently use their service. Hopefully, DH can figure out how to move it.

Christmas fruit? I’ve never associated any fruit with Christmas. Wasn’t a thing in Chicago where I grew up. hey Texans, is there a Christmas fruit here?
I never cared much for fruit until I turned about age 40. Now I eat lots and lots of fruit- so it there isn’t a specific fruit anyone knows of here, I might just pick one and try to start a tradition in my family!
Rye2 -
christmas fruit???? ummmm, I know that citrus is always in my DD stockings. I also know families that send beautiful pears around this time of year. But holiday cookies are all the rage in US imho.
NYKAREN2 -
I know of no Christmas fruit either. I grew up in Oklahoma and have lived in TX for 30 years. This part of the country is cookies not fruit also.

Wendy: Good luck with your Hike. I hope you're feet stay blister free.
Pip: Love the photos of Pike Place, the people & their various clothing choices from shorts to parkas. Where is the group shot taken? The place looks familiar, but I can't quite name it. We went to a parade in Bellevue with our DS and DDIL a few years ago & it reminds me of that place. It was great.
Rori: We have a Walmart "starter store." It is the smallest one I've seen other than one in Beaverton that is groceries only. :ohwell:
JanetR: The photo of your ornament would make a lovely Christmas Card. Heather is right.
Lisa: I agree with you about airline seating. I always want either the window or the aisle.
Meg: I'm so happy that you were able to enjoy a peaceful weekend.
Rye: Tangerines have always been Christmas fruit here in NW Oregon. Some years they have been overripe but this year they're great. I assume they're from California.
I am wearing sandals because I still can't get my bruised toe into shoes but I'm going to go to yoga today anyway. It worked out well enough last Friday. I was able to baby it along and will do so again today.

Oranges and Brazil nuts are the Christmas treats I remember from my childhood. They were always in our stockings.2

Carol Those pads can be cold pads as well! I have a number of them in the freezer for quick hot flash relief and we were very happy to have them in hand when a piece of furniture fell over on DH foot a couple of months ago - flexible cool pack that easily contoured to where it would do good! I agree, WONDERFUL gifts. (But shamefacedly admit mine are made out of husband’s old sock discards and knotted shut - your idea is much nicer sounding!)
I went to the local church craft fair this year and found these wonderful contraptions for bookmarks in case one of you talented folks is interested: (ribbon, hair tie and button:)

Happy Monday everyone,
Kelley, 10 lbs is fantastic!
DJ, glad the brunch went well. 70 kids! Wow that’s a good size group. So nice of the lodge to do something like that.
Janet, that is a great picture. And who wouldn’t love them. You should use that one when trying to sell your ornaments.
Lisa, enjoy the retreat. Find some time to do something for yourself.
Machka, eat a mandarin for me. I love them.
Margaret, yes for the gnomes you have to use a lot of glue gun glue. Watch out if you make them as the glue goes right through the socks and I burnet my fingers a lot. Of course I was working under a handicap with only one good hand and was working fast as I had 7 to make. Two more to make tonight.
Barbie, beautiful stockings. I love the homemade ones so much better than the ones you buy at a store.
Meg, congrats on the weight loss! Glad to hear you had some rest and peace. You deserve it.
Carol, what?! It’s their line! Hope you get the line moved quick.
Not in the mood to work today. I have my foot dr’s appt today. The bone spurs are better, but I now have pain in my ankle. I’m faithfully wearing my support which seems to help, but still hurts when I take it off. Going to see if the dr has any other suggestions. My guess is it is due to my flat feet. I can’t wear shoes without a support inside my shoes. At least the appt will get me out of work early. I’m taking Friday off to clean my house. I have glitter from one end to the other as I do my crafts in the dining room. I should be all done with making my gifts the next couple of days so will be able to clean on Friday before we put the tree up this weekend. So far, the only thing I have up is a wreath.
Well, back to work.
Terry day dreaming instead of working in VT

@Marcelynh Congratulations on the marathon! Cudos to your son also. I enjoyed the pictures.
The crafts are amazing, ya’ll are so creative.
Update on the clinical trial - 4 in all were in my group, the trial drug was administered to 1 person. I was second in the group and did not receive the drug. I was released on Thursday. I was very happy to be able to spend some time this weekend with the grandkids. My older brother is also here for a few days before flying to Michigan.
Friday I went to downtown Dallas to the convention center to visit with a long time friend who was a vendor at the Expo for the Dallas Marathon. Her booth is Marathon Charms, sterling silver charms to commemorate completion of a Marathon. While I was there the convention center was evacuated because of a bomb threat. My car was in the parking garage and I couldn’t go to it until 7:00 PM. The evacuation started around 4. So we had a good long visit. My friend and I completed the Dallas Marathon in 2000. For me it was one and done. My friend continued to complete a marathon in every state and continent - she did Antarctica twice.
There was also a Call of Duty video game championship tournament at the convention center at the same time. Apparently bomb hoaxes are commonplace at these events. Another evacuation happened on Sunday.
I just signed up to join my friend on a running cruise in February. It departs from San Juan and has several ports in the Southern Caribbean on Royal Caribbean. There is a 5K run on each island and a Pirate themed amazing race type scavenger run at the final port. My brother will be my cabin mate.
Cathy, Arlington TX7 -
Cathy wow that is impressive, how many of the 5k’s are you going to run? What a nifty cruise theme idea!0
-
Cathy - that cruise sounds fantastic! I don't think I could share a cabin with my brother though, much as I love him!!!!!! :noway:
When I was a child it was tangerines for Christmas. Nowdays it is seedless satsumas. Most fruit is available all year. Raspberries are very popular (probably from somewhere South) as they go well with chocolate! Pineapple too. If we are entertaining we always do a "red" fruit salad with all red fruits including redcurrants that I freeze from the summer.
I can't say I find your cookies obsession very appetising. I can't think of anything I want less with all the other lovely goodies to eat. I don't like cakes, sweet things, anyway. Over here everyone tries to press a mince pie onto you. (Fruity) Ugh. Much too sweet! I never accept their kind offer. Give me stinky cheese any time - that is my Christmas treat.
I'm looking forward to the yoga Christmas lunch tomorrow, but not to the freezing weather that is forecast. I hate having to defrost the car in the morning. I'm having paté and salmon. No carbs. Masses of veggies. It's far from gourmet, but I'll enjoy the company. I'm sharing the paté with my friend as I don't really like bought in stuff. Last year I had a panic attack when they started a loop tape with carols. My friend asked them to turn it off. Phew! (I hate piped music and carols are my special hate ) It is a real phobia. Can’t see the point of music in a buzzy party that generates it's own jolly sounds.

Rye, here is the itinerary.
5K Friendship Run/Walk in San Juan.
5K/10K Run/Walk in St. Thomas along one of the world’s most beautiful beaches.
4 Mile traditional Run/Walk and party in St. Kitts.
5K or 10K Run/Walk in the picturesque island of Antigua.
A day off of running, join one of our private group excursions, including a Hike in the lush rain forest surrounding the breathtaking volcanic mountains, kayaking, and more in St. Lucia.
60-Minute Pirate-Themed Amazing Race and Beach Party in Bridgetown, Barbados.
This is motivation to get moving. I plan on doing the 5k’s. I took my dog on a 2 mile walk this morning.
Cathy, Arlington TX4 -
Heather, I have taken a cruise and travelled with my brother several times successfully. He is very easy going. The main issue since we share the same last name is the assumption that we are a couple rather than siblings.
Cathy, Arlington TX4 -
Cathy That sounds totally delightful! Motivating for sure! Even this avowed non runner might be tempted!
Heather I like the idea of making a red fruit salad bowl. I think I might just do that! (Wish I could get blood oranges here to cap it off!). But, I think I’ll serve my red fruit salad in a watermelon- to complete the Christmas color scheme.2
