Lenora!!!!!!! So glad to see you back here. You have us quite a scare. It I guess you knew that already. So glad you were on the phone with your BFF. I hope she knows how important she is to you. We owe her so much. Enjoy your pampering from Louis and Cracker.

Lenora Take good care of yourself now!
Becca sending positive energy your way and will hope for a positive resolution for your son.
Terry so glad the cast is in the past!
Felicia Grieving is personal, and your relationship with your sister was unique and YOURS. Don’t hold your grief up for comparison to anyone else. It is.
Ok, very tired here. One of my co-workers sister was taken to the hospital last night so we are scrambling to cover her shifts. I had expected to have lots of time this week, but it is not to be. Going to be busy Sat and Sun getting ready for my Christmas invasion- but I’m glad I can help out co-worker and this will be a very FUN type of busy.
Sweetheart, the backyard cat with heated sweet home, now has priemier dining reservations in the dry area under the concrete picnic bench in our backyard. Given the heavy rains, she/he should be grateful. But he/she is a cat, and I’m not sure they do gratitude. Cats do sure know the cat people, tho. Pretty sure there is a neon sign above our driveway-visible to felines only- which says: Here live Cat People!
Weight training question: I’m working with weights twice a week for about 6 weeks now - and one thing is very obvious. My left side is considerably weaker than the right. I’m wondering if I should hold my right side reps and weights back until the left side catches up?

Hi Gals,
So I’ve been doing some reading, but little commenting… so thought I’d tell about what’s going on in my world…
I have been embroidering like a crazy person and today was my first day off!!! No embroidery is due till January..I have work piled up and if I get ready for the holiday and catch up on my sleep I might do some.. My gardening jobs will get a minor amount of attention, but really a break.
My bio-family is a mess and have been so for years but periodically I step in (when requested only) to deal with an issue. My mom and I stay in good touch, and I stay in great touch with my nephew - but my sister and BIL have cut themselves out; my brother is living with my mom so I see him occasionally but I have little to no interaction with him (he’s my abuser related to a domestic violence situation) My mom has had some problems that has had us to the cardiologist multiple times first thought was Atrial fibrillation turned out to be a lose of muscle tone in the area where her pace maker is so instead of sitting where it should when she moved her arm it registered it as Atrial fibrillation so no problem. Thank goodness! My brother has had chest pains and refused to go to the doctor… when finally he went, high blood pressure and he really has Atrial Fibrillation… He is a non-compliant patient so who knows how this will work out. Lots of drama around all of this… I really only like the kind of drama you buy a ticket for not the family kind.
Until today my cut tree was in the stand, no decorations or lights, but a friend wanted to go to lunch today instead I cooked and she and I decorated the tree, and parts of the rest of the house… pictures soon.
The shopping I’ve done is online, so just a few things to grab… and the family I spend Christmas with is doing a no-gift Christmas (which I HATE – I love to find the right thing to make -or buy – and see the person open it) I told my mom about the no-gift Christmas, and she said I thought they were Christians, I said they were, but I did not get the connection, mom said haven’t they heard of the 3 wise men bearing gifts? I am not sure she was trying to be funny, but I got a kick out of it…
Terry- I’m with you “Wendy, you are such an artist. I envy those that can draw or paint” (my add) or sing or play a musical instrument.
Machka90 – our library has a large DVD selection for check out.
Becca – sending good thoughts!
Wendy – is there a mechanics school nearby that would do the repair for less?
Smiles

My swim app tells me my Apple Watch has logged 98,821 meters in swimming this year. I’m gonna squeak past 100,000 meters - that isn’t anything special in miles (~62 miles) but for some reason completing 100,000 meters swum really pleases me!8
-
I picked up a few things to wear while running. I've got a huge wardrobe of cycling attire, but was kind of stumped when it came to what to wear while running.
Also, while I am asking the question ... how do you carry your phones so you can log your runs on Strava?
The mini-pockets in the back of tights aren't big enough for phones.
And did you get a gait analysis and get fitted up with the right shoes soon after you started running?

You have swam 62 miles????? Wholly Canolli!!! Google 62 miles from your house any direction, and then get in your car and drive it!!!! Really, slow, with yer head out the window, grinning like a puppy!!! Hmmm, maybe keep your head in, you might swallow a bug!

Lenora Glad you're home!

Machka, I have a velcro strap- on arm pocket to stick my phone in, or if it is cool enough, I zip it into the pocket of my hoodie, but quite often I just run with my phone in my hand, LOL. I got shin splints a few years back when training for a half marathon and I went to a podiatrist, foot doctor who did a gait analyses and looked at my old worn shoes and studied my feet intensely. She made insert pads for my running shoes which I am still using in my new running shoes several years later. I have never had a problem with my legs since using her inserts. She was well worth the $100 it cost to see her and buy the inserts. Maybe it was $200. Whatever, it was worth it!
I had a second opinion from the local mechanic who also tested Daisy Duke and he also thinks it is a head gasket problem. Great.
I will sleep well tonight. The Tongariro Crossing has been postponed till Friday. The strong wind forecast for tomorrow has made the hike too dangerous...
Lenora, I feel like God has given us all a Christmas present when he gave you back to us!
Wendy4 -
Lenora - So glad to see you back home and posting! We were so worried.
Going to make chocolate truffles today and update my delivery order for Friday. Need stuff for our visitors the following Wednesday. Must put my thinking cap on. We are away for Christmas and most of the 26th. I will also do a quick pop out to buy eggs.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx

Whew cannot believe it but have caught up with the posts ... for the moment.
Mixed bag'o'news at the DR today. Tried to tell DH all about it but he doesn't like to listen to medical stuff Thank goodness I have y'all!
Balance test v bad, tested today for neuropathy in feet and hands. Anyone have any experience?
Cognitive test v good, v low risk for memory issues (if only he knew :> )
B12 deficient, fortunately he gave the option of pills for 6 months instead of series of injections (whew)
BP great... because it was taken by a nurse and not that cornsarned machine. I do NOT have to test at home. Packing up the monster until DH needs it again.
They didn't do a lipid test so have to schedule another fast and poke. Will order another ultrasound on leg, continuing Xarelto, waiting for results before ordering compression socks.
CAN have a massage, just not on that leg.
Weight was exactly the same as in October
need to start taking bone density meds and make sure daily calcium is at least 1000 mg.
Dr is pleased with the twice weekly Tai Chi, weekly dancing, daily (mostly) <1500 Cals/CLO/yog or probiotic), time now to add aerobic exercise on the days I don't dance.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!
janetr Con VERY grats on your personal best
Sue in WA hope doing the Cantata filled you up, sounds like your DH's recovery will be quite challenging... for you ;} Love the unicorn!
Kate Star Trek beaming up does NOT appeal to me... I'll be broken down to my component atoms soon enough and would fear scrambling in transmission.
KJ Cherry whiskey dark chocolate, thanks for the tips! Would much rather a flying car than a transporter beam.
allie... ah that terrier prey impulse, YUCK! If it wasn't Alfie, which one brought you the gift?
Rye 4 pant sizes? VERY well done! Thanks for the "never two days in a row" a handy mantra to add to our strategy stashes. Could Amazon be using drones to "drop" packages in your area?
Joyce so glad Charlie "got the message" and was there for you. And that your kindess in not complaining about the waiter was repaid with a better experience. Blessings.
Rori ditto putting the healthy snacks front and center. Sometimes just seeing a trigger food can set me off.
Mary congrats on the new jobs! The mirror twins made me smile. what caption will you put on THAT Christmas card ?
Beth ((hugs)) Spending 3 days in hospital takes a toll not to mention the after care for both DH and OS.
hope someone can spell you a little, so you can rest and recuperate yourself a little.
Machka "...have to do it afraid" the few times I have, the feeling of accomplishment was pretty heady. Chocolates and toothbrushes LOL!
Martha, welcome back, so glad to see you again!
Sharon I am so with you about the cilantro. I'd as lief eat Irish Spring. urk.
Okie what are jalapeno popper devilled eggs? Sounds yummy!
Margaret Brava both for your restraint toward the new soprano and for going for the descant. Brava!!!
Barbie naps probably mess up my night sleeping too, but now that I'm retired and can take them at my natural down time (around 1pm) I really relish them.
Wendy wow you are so creative! So sorry to hear about Daisy Duke. My DH has two "vintage" vans and there's always something... but he loves them and they make him happy, so we squeeze the budget that much harder. It would be great if your father could fly to the rescue... ;}
Lanette just tried warming my robe on the wood stove, worked great! Now I'll steal one of DH's singleton socks and fill it with rice. Is brown ok or does it have to be white? Prayers for all affected by the train derailment.
Pip ooh the ballet shoes ornament! When I was a very little girl my parents gave me ballet lessons to try to improve my coordination (alas to no avail). When the shoe salesman asked me which color I wanted, black or white, I very determinedly pointed to the toe shoes hanging on the wall and stated definitively "Pink!"
Michele con Very grats on leaving the wii's overweight category, AND for continually extending your plank. Inspiring!
NYKaren thanks for sharing the NYC at Christmas pics, hope DD feels all better soon!
Carol thanks for the Lenora update. Hope her recovery is swift and sure. Rats, leaking water heater, ugh indeed!
Becca Sending positive thoughts to your OS, DH and your goodself. Sure your son is grateful for your encouraging reminder and support. Love the weird tribe, that's where we all fit in Love your 62 mile suggestion to Rye!
Yvonne "sooner than we anticipated" ((hugs))
Felicia, sorry for the 30+ year loss of your sister, harder on you than her recent death. Great pic of you and your mom. Safe travels.
Meg glad you'll be with friends' house for Christmas. Hoping the New Year brings continued strength and peace to you.
Lenora so good to hear from you and glad you're at home. Thankful for your BFF, your DH and Cracker, angels right at hand. You are so right about tears. ((hugs))
Rye Gratitude? From a cat??? You DID say you were cat people...
Kim "I really only like the kind of drama you buy a ticket for not the family kind." Got that RIGHT!
Hugs to all,
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD.7 -
Morning, all...
Lenora, so glad to see you!
Machka, I use an MP3 player when I run, they're cheap, and I know it won't ring while I'm running! I wind the cord around the band on a baseball hat, with just enough length for the headphones to reach my ears, so dangling cords. They're pretty cheap, and you can often transfer your phone music right over to them via a computer.
Michele, thinking about your Brian.
Becca, thinking about your older Navy son.
Kim, I'm working on drama-free myself.
Love what I'm hearing around here in terms of advice and comfort. Y'all are a genuine and amazing part of my life, and I'm grateful you're here.
I've run the last two days, which makes me very happy. My knees have come to the point now that they hurt whether I run or whether I don't, and won't see the doc until early March, so decided to just run anyway. About a mile-and-a-half a day right now... better than sitting on my butt, and so far, the pain is bearable. Will talk to the doc about replacements in March. KT Flex Tape is such a lifesaver right now, wearing it all the time.
Love y'all,
Lisa in NC3 -
Lisa - Happy to see you back running. My DSIL , that we saw yesterday, used to be really obese and lost a lot of weight on the 5:2 diet. She has recently taken up running, despite dodgy knees, and completed her first 5k ParkRun at the weekend. She was so happy about it! She said she was very slow, but didn't have to walk. Plus it was icy. She is looking great these days.
Barbara - A bit of a mixed bag on the results, but overall pretty good. I do balance exercises every day as part of my regime, but I don't know anything about neuropathy. Balance and core are so important as we age. Can you do Tai Chi at home?
OK. Must get going on my typing and stop trying to put it off.

Well done with your running!
MP3 players used to be pretty cheap. I'm sure I've picked up the ones I have for less than $25 each. But now ... MP3 players are as rare as hen's teeth and priced like gold. I went looking for one a few months ago, and cheapest one I could find was $90. They had 2 or 3 for over $200. I don't understand it.
Anyway, I can't listen to music when I run or walk outside ... the ear buds make me dizzy. I'm OK on the treadmill, but not when I'm moving forward. I can't do it when I cycle either, and even on the bus it's iffy. I think it's an inner ear thing.
What I want to carry is my phone for logging my run on Strava, my house keys, my inhaler, and a tissue.
Currently I'm running in my cycling jerseys which have pockets, and that works all right except that for some reason the cycling jerseys are comfortable on a bicycle, but not as comfortable when I'm running.
This was suggested to me: https://spibelt.com/

Barbara - I make the deviled eggs with cream cheese, sour cream, horseradish, finely chopped cheddar cheese, diced jalapeño, garlic powder, seasoned salt, black pepper and crumbled bacon in the filling instead of mayo, mustard and relish. I tend to play with the filling each time and put weird things in them.

Just a little FYI for everyone ...
There have been some changes/clarifications of the reactions ... those little choices you can click at the bottom of a post (Insightful, Inspiring, Like, Woo, and Hug)
Have a read over these threads ...

Specifically note that Woo is not a reaction of encouragement, and if the comments in the thread above are indeed correct, 5 Woos will make a post disappear to be checked by the Mods.

Rye - When I first started strength training, I was the same way.... one side stronger than the other. As I recall, I did hold back a bit until the other side "caught up" - it took me maybe a month.
Good for you getting your training going!

I always thought the "Woo" was like "Woo-hoo" = well done!
This is from a post by an admin last June:
Hey folks!!
Thank you to everyone who participated in our poll for a new reaction. We had a very clear winner.
The winning vote goes to... Woo!
Since Woo is a different type of reaction than anything we've enabled in the past, we're going to start this off in beta mode.
Woo can mean two things. You can click it both to mean woo as in woo-hoo or to express that you think an idea or approach is too good to be true.
We hope you enjoy the new reaction!!

(((Kim))) good to hear from you. I understand why it is important to minimize your time with your brother. I have a brother like that too. I do not feel safe around him. That says it all.
I am still reading Why We Sleep. He makes many interesting point on how vital sleep is to our health. I seem to be at a plateau of six solid hours. Since I have improved my sleep practices. I do notice less leg cramping at night and less times waking up. Weight is holding steady. I do notice I am more patient.

Yes ... but outside these threads, Woo was almost always used negatively. It always took me aback when someone in here "Woo-d" my post. However, it was confusing having it for two very different meanings, so they changed it today ... confirmed that it is a negative thing.

Ah, unless they have someone like you who keeps on top of it, there will like be lots of folks thinking Woo is a good thing. I am probably one of the ones who would "woo" your (and other's) posts meaning it in a very positive way!

Machka, thanks for the info on the reactions. There is a product out there called "Stashbandz" if you look for it on Amazon (sorry, REALLY leery of adding links these days after getting my hand slapped) that is a soft band that goes around your waist to carry a phone and other things while running, biking etc.4

Machka FYI Amazon Australia which just started business this month has MP3 players under 20 dollars.
But I think the fanny pack you posted might work. My niece uses something similar except it is an armband.1 -

It was confusing!
Here in the Women's 50+ thread, I was pretty sure people were using it for good ... but elsewhere it was mostly to indicate disagreement. Mostly used to indicate false ideas, like if someone announced that the only way to lose weight was to stop eating by 4 pm. People would come in and flag that as Woo.
And now, evidently if someone is flagged Woo 5 times, the post will be hidden for moderation. It looked like people were experimenting with that in one of the threads I linked to.LisaInNCNow wrote: »There is a product out there called "Stashbandz" if you look for it on Amazon (sorry, REALLY leery of adding links these days after getting my hand slapped) that is a soft band that goes around your waist to carry a phone and other things while running, biking etc.
Interesting ... it's quite wide. I wonder how it would be in the heat.
