Me and another hiker went with him to make sure he made it and then we turned around and walked back up the big hill, so really I've done part of the Tongariro twice. LOL. Then a woman in the group walking in front of us slipped on loose shale and broke her ankle. They had to call in the rescue helicopter to come and get her. Two of our group fell in the same dangerous spot but luckily did not break anything. I slipped a couple of times but did not go all the way down. Then towards the end of the walk, one of our group who is diabetic started dropping. I think he fell three times even though people were walking next to him helping him. He'd been monitoring his blood and had glucose tablets and insulin but he still got out of whack. He was a first time hiker. We managed to get him back to the van and he came right after another insulin shot. I am BEAT. I walked for 7 hours with a pack, up some steep hills. Very good fun and made new friends. Another tick on the bucket list. Wendy

Becca - LOL - yes, we are real! Too real sometimes. Merry Christmas!! Cute little Snoopy card! We have snow on the ground this morning!
Sharon - (((HUGS))) If it helps, I'm throwing a virtual cast iron skillet toward Larry's head this very minute. My aim is pretty good! At least quiet him down until after the holidays! Love the photo of Harmony and the deer, and your comment "I am finding joy in this world" makes me happy. Good for you in not letting him pull you down.
Lisa - that story about your daughter and the kids visiting Santa is just plain heartwarming. Thank you so much for sharing it and the photos. Sending virtual hugs to them!!
Patceoh - Please remind me of your name again and where you hail from. Your Christmas tree photo is delightful!
Lenora - these computers and their updates make me crazy!!! Installing stuff I can't get rid of even like Bing newsfeed even tho it says if you don't want it, press this button. I was able to remove it from my old laptop, but it's embedded forever in the newer Dell. We are diehard Windows 7 Pro fans, and maybe that's part of the problem. My DH is the computer whiz so I don't mess with anything, and put up with as much as I can since when we really try to "fix stuff" more things go out of whack. I know one of these days I'll have to get a new laptop which will come with Windows 10, then I'll be forced to learn.
A couple days ago, Facebook wouldn't let me load photos - even though I could see them on my page and presumed everything was fine, others couldn't. I think that was a Facebook glitch tho.
And on all of my computers here - 2 laptops and a PC, the "Inspiring" and the "Woo" buttons look pretty much the same at the bottom of our posts. Upon close inspection, the "Woo" has its eyes open a tad more and lips kind of pursed. The "Inspiring" looks almost like a sad face. It wasn't until I accessed this thread on my tablet last night that I saw a dark face with kind of googly eyes for "Woo" that some folks have been talking about. No wonder it's confusing. The "Awesome" button at least showed a happy face as I recall.
OK. I'm done griping about computers, lol. At least I can access this thread and I'm grateful for that!
Have a good Saturday everyone!

Beth ~ Prayers going out to you and your family. I am so sorry you are unable to be there as I know how anxious you must be. So glad your father is doing better.
Wendy ~ Love the story about your farm being a sanctuary. I can just see the people standing in the rain hoping to get help.
Katla ~ So sorry about your pup’s fall. I hope with all the love and care you give him, he will get better. And, congrats on the new grandson. Hoping for a picture.
Rye & Beth and Sue ~ Your homes look so cozy and beautiful.
Barbie ~ Glad your line dancing class all had a fun and festive day!
Janet ~ Mia is such a cutie!
Sharon ~ Love the photos of the deer in your yard and Harmony is so pretty. So sorry your DH is such a A#&!
Lisa ~ There is still so much good in the world. What a wonderful thing those folks did for you Daughter and the children.
I took the 6 yr old to see Ferdinand yesterday and what an experience it was! I had not been to a movie theater in probably 15 yrs. Your ticket assigned you to a seat and a small coke icy was $7. Wonder how folks can do this very often?. Anyhow, the GD's BFF happened to be in the theater with her father and brother and the two girls wanted to sit together. They were so darn cute. Giggled and whispered throughout the movie. Asked GD what happened in the end and she couldn't tell me.

Rye and Beth gorgeous homes.
Rye love that term cozy cluttered.

Lisa very special christmas story
Machka I do envision travelling with DH during christmas in the future, family traditions (mine not his) still holding us here. It takes him a week or so to get over himself, I just ignore and take care of myself. His childhood has left him with certain triggers and he is not one to reflect and learn, but in so many other ways he is a 100% very good DH.
Rori I wish I was on that assembly line for Tamales, sounds so yummy.
I am no longer in the throws of work stress and food/cookie/chocolate pushers, which is delightful! I will take this time to do what I love, puttering, writing, watching movies, maybe a little cooking and staying cozy for the next week. Well, I do have my Aunt's funeral Wednesday, but I don't mind going, I'll see a lot of cousins I don't know, but I will feel quite close to my mom's heart by going.
All the best to everyone, NYKAREN4 -

Hello all!
Thanks Lisa for posting that sweet story and for the encouragement about my writing. Sometimes you do have to hear things because it is easy to get discouraged and writing is a long slog.
Thanks to everyone who has been kind about my snippet of memoir. It means such a lot.
Sharon - Hang in there for Christmas and then let him have it when the lawyers offices open again.
Haven't heard how my friend is doing today. I hope she can get home.
This afternoon I am going to my brother's for his Christmas Eve Eve party. Getting there in time to see the little ones and will leave reasonably early. My nephew's wife is driving me home for a taxi fee. I know she won't want to accept the cash, but its a long way. I'm going by train and taxi. DH doesn't feel comfortable with my brother's family so I am going on my own.
This morning I completed the initial typing up of my memoir. :drinker: Huge relief! I still have to get the book print ready for Amazon, but it is at least finished. I can't decide whether to have photos in there or not. Makes it much more complicated, of course, to edit. Also got to find a cover. :noway:
Anyway, I can take a week or so to breathe over Christmas and come back to it with fresh eyes.
I'm feeling easily moved to tears at the moment. Not sad, just emotional. I love that you wonderful women are here.

PS - Rori - thanks for your encouraging words. Did you know you can make tamales in the IP?
Please come to London soon!6 -
Janetr - Mia has such a naughty twinkle in her eyes.

We live in Ohio...Where the temp hit 60 yest & very windy with sooo cold rain today.Cold thru next wk,or more likely till March! Great weather for staying warm with hot tea,cocoa.....good books & boob tube.DD with her grandson & my empty Christmas bowl.Used to be full of goodies
So many sweet pics......gonna go thru them later.

Lisa now I am crying. Thank you so very much for sharing your daughter's story. Love and kindness are not dead. Beautiful story.

Sharon, Do not listen, or take into your heart anything Larry says! You are fun, you are amazing, and you deserve so much more! More love, more respect, more MORE! Know most definitely, if I was your neighbor, I would give an " alley chat" to Larry, wait for you to pack a bag and just take you home with me. But that's just me, taking a situation and handling it. We love you, and only wish the best for you.

Sharon you know who I trust to understand “fun”? Children. And it sure seems like the little ones in your life delight in your company. So I’d for sure discount that complaint by 95%!2

Watching Northampton vs Exeter in rugby today. So much fun!!!

Lisa, your story moved me to tears too! What wonderful people you came into contact with.
Janetr, oh my, Mia is just precious!
Sharon, please consider the source of the "not fun" comments, obviously he's not happy in his own skin and has to take it out on someone else, unfortunate that it's you. I hope you can get through Christmas, and then most definitely let him have it come the new year! I see an awesome 2018 in your future! Harmony is a beautiful girl! Such a sweet pose too!
Our recycling was supposed to be picked up on Tuesday, that was also the day that we got about 6" of snow. Not much for pretty much the rest of Canada, but way too much for my little corner to handle. Anyway, our road was plowed, as was the access road to our road (we're on a private road). We have to take our recycling down to the access road in order for them to pick it up, they say their trucks can't safely get up our private road. Well, it was built to code, firetrucks can get up it, so can the garbage truck and the LARGE moving trucks that most of us used to get our stuff in... Anyway, the recycling truck didn't come on Tues. Most annoying. Left the stuff there thinking they would be by later in the week. It's now Saturday, they still haven't come, so I checked their website today. We have to hang on to this stuff til our next scheduled date which isn't for two weeks! Arrrrggh! We recycle a LOT of stuff, not that we use a lot of stuff that comes in lots of packaging, but we can recycle so much, the bins are full! And quite firmly embedded in the snow, now too. Hopefully hubby can chip them out of the snowpile and bring them back up to the house. If not, that may be what we are doing Christmas day! lol
Hubby was supposed to have a cardiologist app't on Tuesday also. Well, not only was it snowing and the police were advising that if you don't have to go out, please don't, but our power was off too, and we had no idea when that would come back on, so he phoned the office and said he wouldn't be able to make it in. We did find out that there wasn't anything exciting or concerning about his tests, dr just wants to do a yearly check up. Whew! Rescheduled for end of Jan, so that's all good.
I'm really hoping I'm not coming down with some sort of plague. Last night I felt like I had been hit by a truck and dragged several feet. Felt better this a.m., but still have kind of a scratchy throat. Been taking Vit C, echinacea and oil of oregano capsules, just in case. Also took a night time cold capsule last night, slept quite well, so maybe I just needed that. Will do the same tonite, as well as try to get to bed a little earlier. Got a few things to do tomorrow to get ready for Monday.
Okay, this was going to be a quick note, but is starting to turn into a short novel!
Hope everyone has a great day!

Did Stephanie Vitorio's Body Target 60 DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do Leslie Sansone's Burn Body Fat DVD
DJ - for some reason, it seems to be so hard to resist this time. In a way, I can't wait for the holiday to be over so I can give leftover cookies to people. When I bake, I admit that I do eat some. Just that I try not to eat a whole lot. Really, in a sense you do need to at least try them to see if there's anything else you should add (more flavoring?). Last night I made the fish chowder for Christmas Eve. I admittedly had to try it. Found it really needed some salt. I added some Old Bay. I figure if people want/need salt, that's what the salt shaker is for. But Old Bay gives it a bit of a salty taste while accentuating the fish taste.
I'm just asking for one thing for Christmas --- gift certificates to Lowe's Hardware. Jess asked us yesterday what we use them for since I'd asked for them last year, too. By the time we just started the list of things they get used for, that was enough for her.
Rye - what a wonderful thing for your husband to buy for your library!!!
M - congrats on the run. Thanks for the recipe. That sounds really good. However, since you've made it before, what can I sustitute for the coconut milk? See, my daughter is HIGHLY allergic to coconut
Wendy - LOVED the cat
janetr -- AWWWW! I notice that Mia doesn't have any red icing. Good call!
Dreamwriter, Sorry to hear that Larry is up to his yo yo head games with you. So distressing especially at holiday time when you would like to focus on joy instead. I'm glad you can have fun despite the nastiness. I love the pics of the deer in the snow and lovely Harmony (such a pretty name!) -- I totally agree. And I'm throwing a cast iron pot to his head, too.
Lisa - I thought I saw someone waving. Of course, Vince thought I was out of my mind. Glad to know that I'm not. Have a safe trip. Your writing about Santa and all the good everyone else did really warmed my heart.
Lanette - one morning I got up and my computer had been upgraded to Windows 10. Not that I asked it to. My hubby is a computer person, too. Was in IT for 23 years. I find that on one hand he tells me to try different things, but when I do and I screw something up, he gets upset with me for screwing it up. Can't win. I guess he expects me to know as much about computers as he does. I've never built one!!!! I've lost count how many computers we have in the house. I think I stopped counting at 7....lol He complains about Windows 10 all the time. He still has 7 on his computers.
Carol - when we go to the movies, I always take my "going to the movies" pocketbook with me. It's big, doesn't look like much, but I can take food and water in with me. Cheaper and healthier. My stomach turns at some of the foods they serve. I will take a bite or two of Vince's popcorn, but that's about IT. What movie did you see?
Denise just called said that there's no one to take care of their dog. Really, it's a big dog and they have a very small apartment. I feel sad for the dog, he really needs room to run, etc. But not my call. Anyway, evidentally they were counting on Pete's brother to watch the dog. He watched the dog while they were on their honeymoon. After they got back, Denise said that he was glad to give the dog back to them. Well...dogs are work. Anyway, she wants to bring the dog here. We just can't have it with the cats. She wants to keep it downstairs. We'd be real afraid that he'd destroy the trees and the display. Pete's mother said she would watch the dog but his step-father doesn't want such a big dog marking their floors. I suggested she board the dog, I even told her one place where we boarded our cat so I know that they board. I also suggested that perhaps his parents have an area (a porch?) that doesn't have wood floors. Just texted Denise that I know people people who leave the dog at home and have someone come in and watch the dog. So it's OK for us to worry about possibe trees down and the village destroyed, but it's not OK for Pete's father to worry about their floors?
Update: Denise said on one hand that she just found out that his brother can't watch the dog, but then she said "I've been flustered for the past few days". Right. She told us that Pete's stepfather broke his hip so I messaged Pete's mother on facebook how I just heard about it and hope the husband is OK. Now to see if the mother says something like "he's doing fine" or "he didn't break his hip, where did you hear that?" As for a pet sitter coming into the house, Denise said that she's uncomfortable having a stranger come into the house, we told her that all pet sitters are bonded for something like $10,000. To me, this is just another excuse. It actually would be less expensive and the person can check on Melanie. She was just going to leave the cat there for three days. What if it got sick? Lord help me that I don't turn to food for comfort!
Well, I facebook texted Pete with possible solutions to the dog problem. Denise asked me not to text him any more because he's stressed about it at work and only she can do something. I honestly didn't even know that he was at work. To me, you don't have to read a facebook text at the exact minute it's sent, I was thinking that he could read it at his leasure. He sent me a text saying that he's stressed at work. I got the feeling that Denise wants to control everything. Wonder where she's getting that from? Maria is a control freak. Now it looks like Denise is becoming one. She won't be here for another day later. I'm thinking of the food that I have defrosted. I don't want it to go bad. Looks like we should cook it, I'll have to freeze it, then defost it when they get here. The fish won't have a crunchy outerlayer, but they'll just have to understand. And if they don't -- oh well.
Jess called from TN to have us be able to wish her friend and his family a Merry Christmas. They sent us some barbecue from this place "Corky's". I believe TN is supposed to be known for their barbecue. I sent them some pierogi. Unfortunately, it won't get there until the 26th. I had to wait until the pharmacy got a shipment of some drug in that comes in a very heavy-duty Styrofoam container, then we put those freezy-things around it. Jess just gets those freezy things from work, so I don't care to have them returned.

Hi all! Back from the party. I left early as I couldn't see much point in more eating and drinking! It was nice to connect up with my huge family and to see all the little ones - hoards of them. My DSIL certainly put on a spread! And she's doing Christmas for 14!
My nephew's wife drove me home and I did manage to press a fare onto her. She didn't want it, of course, but it makes me feel better.
My brother did some fantastic magic tricks, which went down wonderfully. They were really good.
When I arrived he was in his "Santa riding Rudolph" outfit, so I got DSIL to take this pic. My T shirt is now in the wash for DH to wear on Christmas Day in Hove.
My friend is out of hospital and at home. Pretty exhausted, but glad to be back home.

Heather ~ Cute picture. You and your brother are both very good looking folks and I can see the family resemblance.
Michele ~ Don't stress! I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time getting Denise and Pete to your house. I am having problems similar. I wanted my son's family and in-laws to come to our house for Christmas Day, but, he is afraid that it might trigger the urge to drink (he's been sober for 3 months). This, even though no alcohol will be out. Alas! So we will be toting all the presents up to his house and do all the cooking there.
Carol in GA2 -
Carol - it isn't so much having trouble getting Denise and Pete here, it's disheartening that every time she's invited to Jess' or here, there's ALWAYS some excuse. I believe she wanted us to say "oh, that's ok if you don't come, you need someone to take care of the dog." To me, it's very irresponsible of her to leave the cat alone for 3 days (especially when she can bring it here). But not my call. Pete says he cares about the cat, yet his actions of letting it stay alone for 3 days says otherwise. I always told Denise "actions speak louder than words". I just can't believe that we are such terrible people. Well, just like Allie's Tom found out, karma is a *kitten*. It'll come back to her.

Evening ladies
Long day,icy mess here today...did go to work and then picked Tom up at airport came back to his place, packed my stuff and came back home...now to get Alfie used to it here...3 -
Heather - what a cute photo of you and your brother. He looks like a lot of fun - and your hat is adorable. Glad you were able to spend time with that side of the family today!
Janetr - Does Mia ever stop smiling? I bet she'll be quite the kitchen helper when she's older - getting an early start, lol.
Evie - wow, you sure got the snow! We had just a touch last night but we're quite a bit south of you. Glad your DH's cardiologist appointment is just routine and was rescheduled. Hope you feel better soon. I am becoming a fan of black elderberry syrup when I feel like I'm coming down with something.
Rori - OK, I am now craving tamales, lol. What a nice tradition!
I managed my workout today, back in my little unheated studio which is a room attached to the south side of DH's garage. The sun warmed it up to almost 50 after lunch, so it worked out fine. As I was finishing up, I realized how good I felt and how it always makes me feel "alive" with my muscles warmed up.
Then, I thought about other things that make me feel alive....love, touch, babies, puppies, smiles, friends.
Adding that to my gratitude list.
Have a good evening, ladies!
