When people guess where I'm from based on my accent, Irish is the top guess with Canadian coming in second.
Evidently, Canadian mixed with Australia = Irish!!
I've been told I have quite a strong lilt ... I can't hear it at all, but who knows.
So, if you're reading my words here, imagine them with an Irish lilt ... and a bit of Canadian and Australian thrown in, and that's probably about right.

HAHA, I have people guessing my accent as well and apparently American crossed with Kiwi sounds Canadian. That is ALWAYS what people guess!
Hey everybody, it's already Christmas morning here in NZ! Just heading out to feed all the hungry furr family before the human family arrives. Our latest refugee is a hedgehog with a sore leg that my husband found by the hedge yesterday. It will get an egg for Christmas breakfast. Merry Christmas and hope you all get a good book to read. (That's what I want!)

Merry Christmas Day!
I had a coworker and friend who was born and grew up in China until his teens, lived in the UK and was educated at Oxford until sometime in his 20s, then lived in South Africa for a lot of years, and then had been living in Australia for about 10 or 15 years. I could not work out his accent, and it wasn't until he told me where he had lived that I finally got it. He had a bit of everything in there!Machka, that hair! Hubba hubba Irish for the hair, but when I hear Canadian in my head it's more burr than brogue.
Thanks!
Apparently I've got a lilt ... so much so that one person guessed I was Swedish. And I must have something else in there too because another guess has been French.
But I have spent several months in Europe and have been living almost 9 years in Australia so I might have picked up bits and pieces here and there.

Merry Christmas Eve,
Snowing in NW Washington and snow is sticking. Love all the Christmas pictures and new recipes being shared. Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas. This is a quiet one for DH and I....just the two of us with our girl, Ella. Will spend Christmas with a couple long dog walks and reading in front of the fireplace. Kids and grandkids are in Alaska, Kansas and Arizona this season. We'll connect on the phone and on FaceTime tomorrow but travel was expensive and time off was short for the families.
I'm still working on my goals and my word for 2018... am leading toward gratitude because I have so many reasons to be grateful.
Merry Christmas Gals....

Happy anniversary with us, Lanette .3

I rode my exercise bike and read instead of taking a nap this afternoon. I noticed that it was dark outside but since I'm usually asleep in the middle of the afternoon, didn't think it was unusual. Just as I was reading that Lanette, said that it was snowing in SW Washington, the dogs got up from their nap and asked to go out. That's when I found out that it's snowing on the North Olympic Peninsula. The dogs love the snow.

Wish I could go to sleep, but as I can't I will wish you Merry Christmas Day from the UK. I have set the alarm for 7am.
I think I have gone a bit overboard on DH's Santa presents, but they are all useful things including the perennial essential, socks!!!
It will be a rush to open them, eat breakfast, titivate and get into the car. At least the weather is mild. Don't envy you your snow.
I will read a little and have another go at sleeping. I do get so wound up with travelling.
Will be thinking of you all today and hope to have time to check in with you.
Much love Heather UK XXXXXX4 -
well im home with Alfie... went to mass and saw Taliah's pageant and then went to there house,,,now you know when you have a gut feeling that makes you feel uncomfortable? well I feel very unwelcome in there home... I love my daughter and granddaughter with all my heart, but the future son in law doesnt do anything for me.. he yelled at my 89 yr old dad to take off his shoes when he came in the house, dad had already gotten as far as the living room, and had the gaul to sit in Kyles chair, he had a hissy fit and went upstairs for a bit, Tracy ever the hostess ,got everything ready, poured herself and Sarah a glass of wine ,didn't bother to ask me but thats alright. I just told her I didn't feel comfortable and got my boots on and left.. im hoping my dad, Dan and Taliah arent mad.. you know you dont want to stay somewhere where your not welcome or feel comfortable.. now I sorta see what my family thought of Tom for the last 20 yrs..
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and will check in in the a.m.
Love you all and what a blessing to have you all as dear friends8 -

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Friends,
Barbie, I respect the fact that you and Jake choose not to celebrate any holidays and at the same time I somehow feel a bit sorry for you in missing out on all the joy that the Christmas holiday brings to so many of us. That was so nice of your line dance class to give you the nice gift.
Janetr, what a fun pic of that darling Mia. Thanks for sharing and I’d love to see more.
Lisa, thanks for sharing the story about the kindness you and the kids received. I love the Daddy dolls.
Sharon, so sorry that Larry is just Larry. I’m so glad you are still finding joy and just remember you have the support of each of us. We are with you every step so you go girl!!! ((((Hugs))))
Carol, I agree that movies have become priced out of sight. I don’t know how people can afford to date. Lol
Heather, what a Christmas gift to yourself to finish your book. That is terrific!!! The editing will be a breeze after the writing. (((Hugs)))
Heather, I love the picture of you and your brother. His outfit is too cute.
Michele, I had hoped that the stress would lighten up after the wedding but it doesn’t seem like that is the case. I know you want to see her but do try not to let it get to you if they don’t make the trip.
Katla, so glad to hear that our dog is getting better. I hope for continued recovery.
I had hoped to catch up but time won’t allow. I have to get ready for Santa. This morning DH and I went to our favorite restaurant/bar for brunch. It was raining but the temperature was in the mid 60’s so not bad. Tomorrow it is supposed to be in the mid 50’s but sunny so it should be nice. DH will cook our steaks out on the grill sometime before it gets dark. I am sending the very best wishes for all of you to have a wonderful Christmas, whether you celebrate it or not.
Sending love, good thoughts and sunshine to all of you.
I Love you

Hi Gals,
Happy Christmas Eve, or Happy December 24th – depending on what you celebrate.
A quiet night at home – I’ve made myself a “nice” dinner, I heard from a friend that his mom used to make a beef and green tomato stir fry, I couldn’t find a recipe, so wing-ed it. Onion, garlic, bell pepper stir fried then added carrots, green tomatoes and some thinly sliced beef.. I seasoned with oyster sauce, and black bean sauce… came out great.
I’m bringing homemade dinner rolls and potatoes au gratin to tomorrow’s gathering, the rolls are done and the potatoes in process, the recipe I make you bake them covered for 1 hour, then uncovered for 25 min. I’ll bring them having done the first cook, and then they can be finished at the house I’m going to.
I’m also making 17 of the Christmas gnomes, and am not finished, so better say bye – and get this mess finished.
“buttons” I noticed them only used them once, but hugs is very different then awesome or way to go…
Michele – the placemats are stunning!
Marcelynh – what a big job for Santa!!!
Sharon – take care !!! Larry sounds worse than Allie’s Tom
Allie – I’m so glad you are taking care of you. You do know if your not welcome, I’ve been in that situation and leaving is a good choice.
Heather – Good thoughts to all your family, friends! A few days back you were not happy that you had not lost weight, and I wondered if the stress of working on your memoir was part of the reason, our bodies sometimes have their own agenda.
Katla – Levi and I are sending good thoughts to you and your pup! There are animal chiropractors, mine is and has adjusted my dog.
Merry Christmas to all!
Smiles

Happy Christmas Eve!
DH and I spent the day watching movies in front of the wood stove. Very relaxing. DD is home now and we are all looking forward to tomorrow and gifts.
I did do the Kleenex box wrapping for DD money for her passport. Hope it pulls out ok. Should be funny.
Pip, your home looks so Christmasy.
Allie, think you made the right move to leave. If you felt something was wrong then it was. Glad you took care of yourself.
Kim,17 gnomes! Wow I’m impressed. Post pics please.
Heather, WTG finishing the book. What a wonderful accomplishment.
Lisa, what a wonderful story you shared about the nice people your DD met. There really are good people in the world.
Well we will have a white Christmas this year. Supposed to get more snow next week and low temperatures. I like snow for Christmas then I don’t care if we have any.
Well to bed and book and thoughts of sugar plums dancing in my head.
Tony wishes all the pets a Merry Christmas .

Among my accomplishments today was to finish knitting the black wool scarf to go with the hat I finished awhile ago. Tomorrow when we go out to dinner I'll finally have a hat and scarf that go with my green and black winter coat.

Barbara, Southern OR Coastie: I know there are veterinarians in our area that provide acupuncture and acupressure for horses. I assume it would be available for dogs, but we're having such good progress with our medicine regime that we aren't looking at alternatives at this time. We'll see how things continue to go.
Lisa: It seems like things are going well for you these days. I am so happy for you and I'm sure you'll make good choices along the way.
Machka: Your hair is glorious!
Lanette: We have snow, too. A White Christmas is a very rare occurrence for us. Happy Anniversary with us!
Betsy in NW WA: We're on our own this Christmas, too. DS & DDIL asked us to wait to come to see baby Theo until some time in January. They'll let us know when they're ready. We are happy with this as we had no desire to fly anywhere during the Christmas season. :noway:
Barbie: I love the hat and scarf. Beautiful!! It looks like quite a challenging pattern. Where did you find it? I tried something new for me, and crocheted a snowflake. It is far from perfectly done but I'm going to soak it in white glue & water and dry it that way so that it will be stiff enough to become a snowflake on our tree. I bought several at a Christmas Craft sale decades ago and it never occurred to me to try my hand at it until I was housebound with a sick & injured dog and not much else to do.
Martha in Eastern Oregon: Have I already asked you where you are in Eastern Oregon? I have a mental picture of the Bend area in my mind, but think of that as Central Oregon rather than Eastern Oregon. DSIL lives in a small town next to the Snake River at the very eastern edge of Oregon. :flowerforyou:
We are planning to go to see our new grandson some time in January when DS & DDIL are ready for us. We'll make a stop in Illinois to see DD and family on our way home. Our dog has been having a health crisis over the past week and we couldn't have left him in a kennel with strangers. He is just now beginning to heal and feel better. He fell off of a padded ottoman in our bedroom and injured his back. Our veterinarian thought/thinks it may have been broken in the fall. We considered surgery, but no veterinarian in the area was willing to perform surgery on an old dog with his health in such a shaky situation. We've been treating him with a complicated medicine regime and he is improving noticeably day by day. The ottoman is now in the garage and will be donated to the senior center thrift store soon.
I went to the grocery store yesterday afternoon to pick up medications at the pharmacy and last minute groceries. It was a needed trip but I didn't anticipate enjoying it. The place was just as packed with customers as I expected, but everyone was uncommonly pleasant. Strangers were so nice and I also ran into long time acquaintances. It turned out to be a pleasant experience. On top of it all, we have snow on the ground. A White Christmas here is a rare and memorable event.

Marcelyn - 22! Wow! Do you have to cook a big meal for everyone? Good luck
Had our Christmas Eve dinner. I invited Amanda (Jess' friend who moved down here), her hubby Andy, their son Aiden and his mother Sue to dinner. Jess did cooking. Vince said "can't you get along"? It's not that we aren't getting along, it's that she and I do things differently and have different ways of thinking of things. Like I like to get started and not have to rush so I started getting the oil warm and the butter melted. Jess will wait until the last minute before doing things. I would NEVER have used as much oil as she used to fry the fish. I swear, it was almost deep fried. I would have just used a little. She wanted to use a different frying pan for each type of fish (cod, halibut, flounder, tilapia, catfish), I had to keep reminding her that we needed to broil the salmon. It's just that we do things differently.
I didn't have that much to eat, and I'm stuffed! I brought the Krispy Kreme donuts in from the car after church and I really don't have any desire to have one. Now last year I would have. I'm really surprising myself this year.
DJ - I really do think they'll make the trip mainly because Vince told Denise that if she doesn't come, there is no way that we're shipping her gift to her. She asked for a fireproof safe, and you know how heavy that is! So she'll come if anything to get her presents. Then it wouldn't surprise me if she doesn't come down here again until next Christmas.
janetr - thanks for such a lovely picture. Very powerful.
Colby just came here. He evidently drove, said he couldn't get off from work early enough to fly and a flight would have been just $20 more than driving (I personally think it would have been more, I don't think I spend anywhere near $100 to drive to VA)
Michele in NC
who thinks tomorrow's dinner will be tonight's leftovers. I am really not up to making another dinner. Will have to make a dinner when Denise gets here.

A tiny little bit of backstory, which I won't put on the blog, just putting up the picture... my daughter showed me this pic last night. It's her tree, her dining room, and her cat. I asked her how the heck she did it, and she said, "I have an app." I looked up at her laughing, said, "Seriously?" She said, "It worked last year!" She has kept the six-year-old believing so far... and they left out chocolate milk and cookies last night, most of which she ate before going to bed, making sure to leave crumbs and sprinkles behind. Love this girl!
