Happy Saturday, all!
Heather- Great link! Your "girls" trip sounds well planned. It's always nice to be able to check things off the to-do list. I say, definitely splurge on the "grown up girl" treatment for the train ride!
Allie- Alfie is adorable! That second shot really seems to capture his personality! Sending hugs to you and your dad!
Terry-Love your page name "speaking in rings". I will give you a few days to get set up and then come and visit your site! So excited for you!
Lanette- I see that Machka posted what I would suggest as an easy transition from walking. Hills. When I get to the point where I need to boost my cardio. I add hills and stairs to my walking. I am fortunate to live close to some great hiking trails. But if you are on a treadmill, you could use your incline more. Or...just go up and down stairs for a few minutes. Jumping rope is always a good one, too.
DJ- So good to see your post! Wonderful news that a friend is moving closer. Hope all is well for you!
Pip- That bod pic. I hope it's your bod. If it's not, your camera is probably someplace it shouldn't be! You look fantastic! Beautiful face! Healthy strong body! Wonderful soul!
Well, I have tried the turmeric tea and I have no problem drinking it just hot water and turmeric (no other flavoring needed). I do add ground pepper to aid in absorption. DH wasn't going for it, though. So...I added the turmeric to chicken broth; for the win! I used an unsalted broth, so I think it should be okay. Wondering...how much per day do you think? A cup or two? How long before we see/feel any results? I know, for some things, your body needs to be taking something for a while for it to have an affect. Any ideas? Wendy, Machka, Lanette? My holistic heroes?
I woke up early this morning and got my blood work done (just routine) and headed off to do my shopping. When I got home at 8:30am, I was long past due for my coffee. Two cups and two hours later I feel a little more alive! Thank God for the discovery of that little magic bean! I actually BOUGHT a veggie tray and cookies to take to my brother's house for our holiday get together. I am trying to not stress about the fact that I just spent $12 on $3 worth of veg! (Just this once) No time or energy this week to make a tray. I decided on veg, because I know there will be all kinds of stuff there that I shouldn't be eating. I am going to eat a good lunch before I leave, snack on the veg, and pray that I can just chew my gum and enjoy the company without the food! I can do this, I can do this, I can do this.
This is day six of sticking to my meal plan and not straying! Whoot! I have chicken in my crock pot to make a few meals with this week. The rest of the food is all prepped and ready to eat. Tomorrow is my fast day. I also have to set up my house for our party day Monday! Mid Winter Luau! Aloha! DH is making the weekly pilgrimage to visit his mom, tomorrow. I love the woman; but am positive she would rather spend time with her son, than me! I will be sending any extra Luau treats with him, that way I won'd be enticed.
Daycare news: I don't know if I told you, but when I returned to work after my vacation I started a Potty Boot Camp for my four un-potty trained toddlers. I am happy to report, that after two weeks, all of the toddlers are potty trained! For me, that means that I went from changing 15-20 diapers a day, down to 4 (baby Stella)! I am sure I hear angels singing!
Well, gotta fly! Love and hugs to you all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)11 -
Karen UK - Brilliant news on the job! And such a worthwhile cause The getting up early and the walk will be good for you as well.
Today it was raining. I sat and looked at it. Then I decided to go for my c25k anyway. It was Day 3 Week 3, so I got on my fleece, my anorak, my hat and my music and out I went and DID it! That makes me very happy.
KJ - love the potty boot camp! Bravo! :drinker:

Allie what a precious gift from heaven Alfie is! Brings the love and joy you need at this time. Give him a love from me
Evelyn productive day indeed. Well done!
Terry great name! Will the Speaking in Rings be in a ring shaped circle or spiral on your biz cards?
Barbie look forward to any hints from Thinner this Year that resonate
Lanette Dancing is great fun, and the longer you do it the more you "glow"
So DH is taking himself for a bicycle ride giving me a few free hours this morning. Determined not to waste them on computer or housework. Will report back tomorrow.

The Welsh government have a Breakfast Club scheme, initially set up to provide a healthy breakfast for children from poorer families who would otherwise have none. It is free to all in Wales and used by a lot of working mothers. I will help serve cereal and toast and then spend time with the children until school begins. I have 7 grandchildren so am used to little ones and looking forward to it. It will mean an early start Monday to Friday, I will have to get up at 6am in order to be ready and to walk to the school for 8am. It will be extra money for me as I don't have any income. I sold my house, divorced my husband and have just enough money to live on from my share of the proceeds of sale until I receive the state pension in 5 years time.
Hope this is not too long and boring for you all!
All the best

Karen UK That's about the farthest thing from too long and boring I think I have ever read in this forum. Looking forward to more!

Fried up the rest of the cod, catfish and tilapia from Christmas Eve. still have the flounder to fry up another day. It's still frozen.
Karen UK - contgrats on the new job. No, your post wasn't too long or boring. We love hearing about everyone's accomplishments, no matter what they are.
KJ - love the potty boot camp. What all did you do? I bet it was very innovative -- you always come up with such creative ideas.

Wendy: Bringing in a kid to work with Arrow would be a good idea, and I'm sure that Arrow's owner would have done that already if anyone was capable and available. I think he's stuck with a couple of old women. :ohwell:
globedit: Welcome to a great group of supportive women!
Heather: "Another thing we talk about in this group is Mental Hygiene. Equally important." Well said! I like what you had to say about leaving something behind, reluctance, and receiving the new word, embrace. This is a brilliant idea, and a great way to clean our emotional house and create a positive mindset. Congratulations on taking your walk in the foul weather. WTG!!!
Lisa: I just looked up the question of what happens to the military during a government shut down. The answer I read was that active duty soldiers keep working, and will eventually receive all pay due them. I hope your family is not too inconvenienced. My son is also active duty military. I'm happy that you and Corey are taking some time together.
Lanette: Thanks for the information about cleaners. We have issues with our cleaner's rush and lack of thoroughness when she is here. We provide all the cleaning tools and products that she uses. I am obviously not very happy with the situation. :grumble:
Karen UK: Congratulations on your new job! I hope you enjoy it.
Rita: Love the photo. You seem to be having a good time with your new lifestyle. Congratulations!!!
Heather (& anyone else who is an Elvis fan): Last night I watched a TV program called Elvis Behind Closed Doors. It was excellent and fairly well balanced, in my opinion. If you can find it I think you would enjoy it. It was on one of our satellite channels. There were many clips of him from the early years to the end, and interviews with friends and colleagues including Wayne Newton, Pat Boone, and at least one of the Stanleys as well as a few women who were in his friendship group. There was no hint about the horrible program that Geraldo Rivera did after his death years ago. Thank goodness. I googled it and found that it may be available online.

Coffee no breakfast
What sorts of jobs are you retired from? Or, like me, are you still working?still working. Have had a number of different jobs all office: paralegal, computer software trainer, office manager etc.
Do you work part-time, or volunteer in retirement?Currently part time but expect to go back to full time in next year or two.
Good questions, Karen, I will be interested to see what we get!

Not much of a fan, nor do I remember the Geraldo thing (tho I can imagine) but recently an odd thing was said to me by co-worker B, a young woman of about 25 years.
“Do you think Elvis is dead”? She asked. “I’m 100% certain that man isn’t alive. “. “ But you don’t think he could have faked it...”.
I told her I really had no opinion on whether he faked his death or not, but in looking at the pictures taken in the last year of his life I doubted his health was good enough for 10 more years, let alone 50. She looked at me shocked like, “That’s true!” She exclaimed.

Lmao! Yeah that’s my bod. I wasn’t fishing for compliments, it was just that face pic, I really looked at it and just never noticed how old I am starting to look. Just reality, no getting around it. Glad my body doesn’t look as old as my face sometimes does. Lololol5 -
Karen in Virginia:-
I don't eat breakfast, just have 2 cupsof tea.
I always worked in office administration/accounts.
My new job will be part time and during school term time only.
Karen UK0 -
Katla - It was a walk/run. The run bit is more of a shuffle. The programme gradually builds up the time spent running. Next week 4 is the week that a lot of people seem to have problems with. I'm a bit nervous. My cardiovascular health is good, but I'm always aware of my left knee. Next Tuesday is the day. I might do Monday instead because of having to go to London next Friday/Saturday. You are supposed to leave at least a day's rest. I have an app for it, with the encouragement of a Scottish voice to spur me on and lots of lovely music these ladies have suggested. I always come back really high. Even in the rain.

Today, I am having turmeric mocha soy milk coffee for breakfast. It is another fast day for me. If I am not fasting I have eggs for breakfast, with turmeric and mushrooms and cheese, or maybe salad and chilli rolled in a tortilla, or maybe left over pizza if I'm being naughty, LOL. Or maybe Chocolate or icecream if I'm crazy and stressed.
Jobs: I am trying to exit gracefully from my accounts job at the travel agency that we have just sold and haven't been paid for yet. I am also making queens in our bee business that I don't get paid for just yet, but I own 25% of the company so I am looking at long term gains. The more queens I make, the more hives we make, the more honey we make and sell. I am also planning to sell some foals from my arab brood mares eventually. Hoping my young stallion has done his job this year. Have got another young stallion growing up to take over. I am also working on a fantasy young teen trilogy that I plan to sell and become a best selling author. One Day. I am also growing manuka cuttings in the hopes of planting a plantation and selling manuka oil as well as making honey from it, another long term part of our bee business.
My long term plan is to buy a huge wild bush farm, full of manuka for the bees and trails to ride my horses on and live there in a one room cabin, (too small for kids to move back!) and turn our humungous old house into a b & b that maybe one of my daughters can run, or just rent the place out for passive income so I can travel the world, starting with Spain. Our house has four bedrooms upstairs, two bedrooms and an office downstairs as well as two lounges and two bathrooms. It would make a perfect b & b. Also we are 30 seconds off a main highway so it's a good location as well. My kids disdainfully call it the Hillbilly Mansion.
KJ, love Potty Bootcamp! So glad it has cut down diaper changing time for you. I'm not sure how long it takes to feel/see results from turmeric. It is just one part of my overall good health and high energy plan. Along with turmeric, I take Ginseng, Ginkgo, Go-Meno Free, Dong Quai, St Johns Wort and use Progesterone cream and emu oil. As well as use soy milk, coconut cream, and add rosemary, fenugreek and fennel seeds to boost my female hormones. I eat a lot of raw food too, sunflower seeds, walnuts, fruit and salad. And I lift weights and run to keep my hgh hormones pumping. I believe that doing all these things together has a synergestic affect to boost my anti-aging plan.
Lisa- I am a great believer in doing all you can to stay mentally strong. I have an audio book called "Grit" that I listen to often just to hear all the ways you can hold it together.
Karen uK: Congrats on getting the job that sounds like it's good on various levels. You are bringing in some needed money as well as contributing to a community good. Wins all around. Wendy

lisa glad you decided to take a night to yourselves. Sounds like you have a solid plan for the time with the grandkids. They are such a Lucky family to have you and Corey, what a blessing. And even when you hit a bump (which you probably will) you’ll find a way to laugh and hug and cuddle it out.
Karen I am a breakfast eater, sometimes delayed a few hours but usually yogurt and fruit or a simple egg.

Karen UK Great to see someone from UK on our thread, love our US and Australian and New Zealand gals but I are sometimes feel a bit lonely not sure how Heather feels.
Watching snooker at the moment, not sure if popular in US but DH and I love it, don't like football at all3 -
BREAKFAST: I usually eat a piece of dry toast with either an egg or pimento cheese. Sometimes grits instead of toast.
JOBS: *I tried waiting tables in my dad's restaurant for a few months...I totally stunk at this
*Then I worked in offices for about 4 years. My title was secretary but I ended up being a glorified dictaphone
typist.
*Finally, I started teaching 5th grade and retired after 30 yrs in the same school system. It's funny about
beginning to teach at age 28 because I had the degree at 21 but did not have the nerve to try.
Kelly ~ Congrats on the potty training. That is a feat to be applauded.
Allie ~ The pup is cute as can be.
Lisa ~ Thinking about you and hope the sale goes through without a hitch.
Heather ~ Doing great regarding the running.

Breakfast is steel cut oats except for Tuesday and Thursday...those are my fasting days.
I am retired in the winter but am a self employed suction dredger in Alaska during the summers.
In the winter I volunteer for Salvation Army at Christmas and the rest of the winter, I do lots of dog walking and hiking. In the winter, I used to work at many odd jobs, mostly in retail.

Every day my DH brings me breakfast in bed. (I get up first to make the first cup of tea and bring it upstairs) He goes down and chops up lots of lovely fruit and berries and puts it on top of organic muesli with whole nuts in it. So I always have the same thing. On holiday in a rented place we get up and sit at the table and have a soft boiled organic egg with artisan bread "soldiers", followed by bread and soft cheese and some fruit, like grapes, or peaches. At a hotel or on a cruise I would have fresh fruit, followed by poached eggs and smoked salmon. A sliver of cheese. No bread. Very occasionally porridge.
When we have visitors we usually eat at the table and have freshly baked croissants with homemade jam (no jam for me) and fresh fruit salad that DH has prepared. Sometimes I cook a guest bacon, egg and tomato.
All utterly lovely.

Karen, congratulations on the new job. How exciting to be doing a worthwhile job. Also, the money will help.
Kelly, the potty training sounds like a success . All those diapers!
Lisa, I’m worried about pay for those affected by a shutdown too. I know they always say they will get their back pay but that doesn’t pay the bills now.
Wendy, I love your future plans. So many great ideas. Sounds you will be as busy in the future as you are right now, if not busier!
Barbara, I sold one of my bracelets at the jewelry store! Money towards my property taxes. Here is a first draft of a business card. The S is made from one of my bracelets.

Terry, I wish we still had the awesome button!! Congrats on selling one of your bracelets!
Kelly, potty boot camp! Love it! Sounds like you made potty training into something fun for the kidlets to try. Super bonus for you not having as many diapers to change!
Breakfast, fruit and yogurt and then cereal with milk. Comes in just under 400 cals.
Still working, but part time. Was a cook for many years, then did a stint as a "domestic cleaner". I did work for a company, they supplied all the cleaning products and customers. The pay wasn't great, but I was so tired of cooking! Then I got tired of cleaning and was offered a job by by former boss, cooking again. I never should have said yes, but I was tired of cleaning other peoples toilets (some were SO yucky!!). We were not able to make a go of the pub that he had taken on, thankfully I had no money in it, just my time, but I was out of work. Never thought that at 56 I'd be looking for a job!! I went back to school, got some business admin courses under my belt, as well as some formal computer training. Then bumped into a woman that I had done some exercise classes with, she is the manager of the storage facility that I now work at. And I love my job! I was out of work for two years and while I loved the freedom of not having to get up and go to work every day, I really missed the income. It did work out for the best tho, my dad was not well, so I was able to help him out a bit and then when he passed I inherited his bank accounts. I'm an only child so had no one to fight with over it. That inheritance is what kept food on the table til I finished my course and found a job!
Yesterday was not a great day, but wasn't the worst day ever either, so I'll take it. Today is shaping up to be a decent day, have done some walking, going to head out and do some more soon. Lunch was reasonably calorie wise and dinner will be also. Then just need to brush my teeth right away and there will be no after dinner snacking that way. I also really need to get to bed earlier tonight! Last night the time just flew til it was 11 and I hadn't even had my shower yet! Ugh. I had a hard time getting my "up" button to work this morning! Oh well, did get up, had my lunch pretty much already to go, so I even did dishes before I left the house. Nice coming home to a reasonably clean kitchen! Must go.

I was at work from 9 to 5, teaching, prepping, and grading papers, but I still got in 9,500 steps. My commitment to 2018 is to continue living without sugar, to eat healthy, and to walk/jog/workout 6 days a week. Knowing I am fitter at 70 than in my 40s is no excuse to slack off.

Breakfast ... when I eat breakfast, do best with no gluten ... so steel cut oats, crustless quiches or just scrambled eggs, yogurt with honey almond granola.
Jobs .... still working part-time as the only cleaner for our church, currently working full-time as one of my OS personal care aides (but hope to find a replacement soon as I'm wearing out). I've worked in public relations/advertising; held many, many secretarial positions; co-owned an appliance repair service with my husband, served as a lunch lady!! (sadly I had the arms for it), and made incredible money as a nanny among other things!
Retirement ... if I ever get to retire, I hope to volunteer.
